my hitting style if I to describe it would be you know inside out swing I try to hit the ball to right center every time in high school I was a straight pool my high school coaches came out to me on Easter day you know mixing something the right-field and you know I just always try to work on it when I was a kid I didn't have any other stuff and if I had it you know definitely put me a step above a lot of a lot of players makes you stay on the balls longer keeps your mechanics on line I get up to the box use your hands and good things Ivan so what exactly is an inside-out swing and how can it help you let's analyze Mike trout's hitting mechanics and find out the key to an inside-out swing is being able to keep your barrel inside your hands until your hands reach the hitting zone this gives you more back control in the zone and also put your bat in a good position to hit hard line drives to all fields as Mike starts his swing his barrel is inside there to the left of his hands notice how his bat barrel stays inside as his hands enter the zone right about here at this moment his hands elbow and back hit are all connected and inline which means he's swinging in sequence you can also clearly see this when viewing Mike's swing in 3d using the zepa this barrel stays inside during the early part of the swing after staying inside during the first part of his swing now it's time for Mike to accelerate his barrel into the ball Zepps vertical angle at impact which measures the vertical angle of your back when you hit the ball is a great indicator to see if you're doing an effective inside-out swing we measured Mike's vertical bat angle at negative 25 degrees it impacts with his hands slightly above his bat barrel what makes Mike's swing extra special is that it gets to that negative 25 degree vertical angle before impact and maintains that bat angle through impact staying inside ultimately helps might get his bat on plane with the incoming pitch meet the ball with good force and extend through the ball on that same plane if you're working on staying inside the ball and hitting to right center with your Zep sensor try to stay between negative 20 and negative 30 degrees on your vertical angle and alright now it's your turn take a few swings with your zip sensor and look at your bat vertical angle at impact to see if you're in the negative 22 negative 30 range if you don't have a zip sensor just use the zip app to record a video of your swing and compare it to Mike's side-by-side check out the training center and ZEB and try the inside T drill do the drill and take at least 10 swings with your Zep sensor look at your vertical angle after every swing to make sure you're staying between negative 20 and negative 30 degrees then check out your swing in 3d to make sure you're staying in size over time you'll get a feel for how to stay inside on every swing just like my trap does
