when releasing the 50th anniversary edition of Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield I think that the record company had a bit of a problem because almost everything connected to this album has already been released of course it started all with the original album from 1973 and then in 1976 there was the boxed version which features a quad remix by Phil Newell and then in 2003 Mike decided to make a complete new recording to celebrate its 30th anniversary and then 2009 saw the release of the the looks Edition with a new mix by Mike Oldfield actually a remix plus the original album plus demos and the first rough mix and also the boxed mix and a single from the dxassist so when releasing the 50th Anniversary Edition I think they were scratching their heads about well what can we further add to it well they decided to to a release a half speed mix I don't know if it's well improve the sound quality um but let's let's first open it I like to cover a lot it's very simple and quite like the original so it features the original mix but it is a half speed monster and here a few words from my goldfields well the the thing that really has to sell this version I think is because it features the demo for the intro of Tubular Bells 4. he started working on that album in 2017 and he was planning on finishing it to coincide with the release of the 50th anniversary but apparently after eight and a half minutes he got stuck and he gave up on it so that's very sad and that's why this album only features the first eight and a half minutes of what could have been tubular bells for and that's of course he already mentions himself that this is probably the last piece of music he will ever record so or he has ever recorded I should say um so that in itself makes this a valuable addition to any uh Mike Oldfield collection apart from that it also features the music for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games I think it was only available previously in a limited 12 inch single and then it also features a tubel x which was on the 1998 X-Files album and it also features the Mike allfield and York remix and also the Single theme from Tubular Bells which was also on the deluxe edition it's regular black final almost a rarity these days as colored final is the rage no there's also an inlay look at that yeah and a complete story also a regular black vinyl with a new bonus tracks so I don't expect the half speed master to reveal any surprises but the fact that it features what is probably Old Fields last recording ever makes it uh well an inevitable addition I should say to every all field collection
