Miami LIVE Exploring Downtown, Financial District, and Brickell Key (February 16, 2021)

hello everybody it's february 16th 2021 26 degrees celsius 79 fahrenheit and it is thunderstorming right now in florida i'm just looking outside the window right now thinking if i should do this walk but we'll see let's go outside to the riverwalk um is my chat even on i see my own live stream but i don't see anybody chatting right now it's weird the way youtube or prism did the settings like now all of a sudden i have to uncheck it and then enable it again it's very weird let's check it again definitely a weird issue all right let's go and try not to get wet but even if i do i got a seersucker shirt i got shorts that are easily dry and i got my crocs so we are walking in a thunderstorm today be good if i can get my umbrella open beautiful yacht driving down the miami river i did a little bit of walking around earlier and what i can tell you is these florida thunderstorms they come and go all the time it's like on and off showers i was able to uh to get some cover now and then to avoid the thunderstorms let's continue walking along the miami river for a little bit lena you had the same problem with the live chat as i did it's strange it's not just me either i've had issues with it i know um walking commute who also makes live streams and new york city had problems the weather here in miami seems very similar to the weather that i experienced when i was in new orleans on and off thundershowers then again pretty much miami and miami beach was built on former mangroves and swamplands let's see if i want to continue on over here oh i see where this goes this goes around to the other side to bayfront park to the mouth of the miami river see medina 238 with 10 bucks thanks for the virtual vacation enjoy yo welcome see medina 238 appreciate it now my audio is repeating itself i think the showers are gone now all right i know exactly where i am now this connected to the other side of the miami river where bayfront park is and everything but since this area is under construction i think i'll turn around and explore the other side no more umbrella needed hopefully no more thunderstorms for a while these boats are absolutely gorgeous i have to say sometimes these boats can cost more than homes here i'm not like a boat person but you should see some of these boats they cost like hundreds of thousands of dollars sometimes even like millions of dollars looks like all the furniture on this boat is all wet though from the thunderstorms chris c that's a couple million for that boat that boat is a million dollars plus really oh my goodness you can get more money more real estate with a house than that boat i thought a million dollars would buy a bigger boat than that one but apparently not so here comes another boat just floating in the middle of the miami river by the way miami and miami beach are surrounded by the biscayne bay karina hart thanks me for the video and you're going to plan a trip to miami oh wow that'll be cool yeah it's very nice down here it's not today though because it's on and off thunderstorms but i was still able to get some stuff done today i think i need to put my umbrella up again let's see am i enjoying the miami food yes i am the miami food here is gorgeous and very tasty this riverwalk path is really nice there's not too many people around and there's a nice little ambiance i just got water in my crocs but that's fine i'd rather this get wet than my sneakers well here we are again on and off rainstorms that's how it is in miami daryl asking if the people are friendly towards me and miami yes they're very friendly down here also there's manatees over here you gotta be careful of the manatees marshall saying the least expensive boat was two to three million dollars that's outrageous to me that's shocking i thought a million dollars would get a lot more boat than that that's the metro mover up there the riverwalk station if you want to go to the metro mover station you can go here let's see toronto asking did i notice when you pay my restaurant bill there's extra charges um i haven't noticed yet but maybe i need to look more carefully this riverwalk is gorgeous look at this you know what i was at that station before that was um the first station in brickell and now i'm looking at it from underneath so across the river is the neighborhood of brickell which is also in downtown miami simply d beauty saying some restaurants charge more taxes and tip we have something called the tourist tax in tourist places like miami beach i haven't eaten at many restaurants in miami but i'll definitely have to take a look most of my food i've gotten from the grocery store so i haven't noticed any extra fees miami river greenway continues this way also got this piece of art over here let's go over to the right suzanne asking if groceries are more expensive than new york city they're comparable see rain clouds have a feeling there's going to be a downpour soon it's the wind's picking up i believe this avenue that i walked underneath is miami avenue yep south miami avenue i guess i can go this way there's no cars coming i might get splashed with some water here and penny asked it was nice this morning what happened that's why i'm asking also what happened this morning now i'm crossing third street or south third street i mean i guess i could go i don't see anybody yeah let me go why not why not and it's saying the weather changes super quick here that's the way it is it's tropical weather i've come to expect it by the way i know this is common in miami there's a lot of wealth inequality just like new york city some person here is making their home underneath this highway very unfortunate but there's a lot of other neighborhoods in the miami area which are not as built up as downtown and miami beach so going west just a little bit more we'll be heading into the not so glamorous area of miami anymore i did walk this way earlier to catch a bus and i saw oh that didn't sound good but i saw a few people also making their home underneath the freeways headed that way as well simply beauty saying the overtown area is not recommended well i got a glimpse of it taking the bus the bus drove right through that neighborhood and i saw a lot of wealth inequality there a lot of property and people in need so i see that miami has its extremes just like new york does this is the miami avenue station on the metro mover it's their monorail system you see here this is definitely an area where you see the extreme difference between the areas this is like the western boundary of downtown you see people here sleeping underneath the awning over here not all of downtown is so glamorous liz saying toronto is just the same i know i've watched a lot of toronto streams so this is um what street is this i don't even see i only see miami avenue all the rain's picking up again gotta put the umbrella up now all right let's bring it with the rain it's a puddle here i gotta step over there's a lost stores i guess i don't need my umbrella over here liz saying do i have my strong umbrella with me no i don't i just have this one the travel umbrella i don't think i'll need the bigger one [Music] there's a shopping mall in there the sea bulb [Music] flagler station is this a subway station three now normally i would wouldn't mind exploring different neighborhoods throughout the city but for me not really being familiar with the area i don't think it will be really wise for me to explore different areas that i'm not familiar with that i know are not tourist friendly charles v asking if i'll be touring the keys i've considered it too so optimistic eyewear and the children's place here even the areas around here downtown i notice there's a lot of inequality as well there's pockets of homelessness and people in need around the downtown area but i know there's a lot more wealth inequality and people living in places like hialeah alapata overtown away from the biscayne bay adam barajas saying little havana i think i'll be exploring little havana eventually once the weather gets a little bit better kaye ocho i know is a famous street in little havana looks like i ought to put the umbrella back up again pablo is saying this place doesn't look tourist friendly it could seem that way right i mean there's a lot of buildings that are abandoned looks like downtown miami is like where it's not by the water doro cafe cafe italian fresh food that looks cool there's a barber shop over here in downtown sovereign poke boba asian kitchen all right hibachi is that grill and noodle bar interesting seems like i stumble upon a mini uh asian cuisine block here's a sushi place and ube ice cream while ube ice cream is filipino kacha brewers saying downtown isn't as upgraded as people seem yeah there's uh pockets of nice buildings and then there's pockets of buildings that look like they need some work there's a money exchange over here [Music] johnny strides earlier this morning and then it just got rained out i wasn't able to um get what i wanted at zach the baker but i did visit wynwood yeah we're gonna hear plenty of thunder now also another place that was recommended was black panther coffee in wynwood i passed by it i'm not a coffee drinker but i've heard from another youtuber i forgot which video it was that it was the best coffee they've ever had there i think right now i'm walking west towards the government center there's a courthouse building actually looks like up there it's closed i don't think i can cross through that street which bus route is this for the seven the seven a and the nine i know the seven it takes you pretty much nearly oh my gosh whoa that rain just came out of nowhere like immediately this is why i dressed the way i did i got seersucker shirt shorts crocs also i got a backpack that's easily dried off easily good thing my umbrella has a quick open i push the button and just in like a few seconds it opens up looks like i want to avoid this so now i have squeaky shoes but i rather squeaky shoes than uh wet sneakers with socks what is this it's like an open bollard don't know what's the meaning of this setup but this courthouse definitely needs some repair [Music] so this is north 3rd street and miami avenue more construction happening marine asking why the streets so empty you thought floor is more open i'm wondering the same thing myself i mean i was just curious and i just took a stroll near my hotel in the downtown area i figured there'd be more people out but the thunderstorms don't help either people don't want to go out when it's raining right all right so no more umbrella need it again and close us up again he's actually the best umbrella to bring for this kind of weather on and off thunderstorms peter walsh weird five pounds the weather reminds me of home felis-style 84 you remember this weather when you went to orlando so this is the government center station it's a combined subway station and also metro mover station and also i think a commuter rail station too the bright line but when i passed by there i saw the bright line station was closed so i'm not even sure if it's operating here anymore when tonight i hope you got a great rate on airfare and hotel oh i did i absolutely got a great rate the camera needs a little bit of a wipe it does let's use my sleeve but i was able to get a good rate on a four-star hotel for less than 125 dollars a night [Music] oh there's the subway i'm curious i've never ridden the subway before maybe i'll do it one of these days or maybe today why don't i go on it right now this pedestrian light is broken by the way doesn't even show winter night saying that was a good deal it is i was able to do a travel hack and i booked the hotel with hotwire.com and i use the hot deal option the hot deal option they tell you the general area of the hotel as well as a star rating but they don't tell you which hotel it is until you book it so i did it that way [Music] electric traveler asking if the metro mover is free yes it is free also most of the public transportation here is free the metro metro authority suspended fair collection as of march of last year and it's been like that ever since jamie lyle is saying it's a railway it's not on the ground oh it's not a subway all right i just i guess let's compared to like new york city's eight and even up to 11 on the 7 train can i cross oh come on is this gonna turn green now oh right yes i don't know how the traffic light works here strange so all right this is the government center station metro rail and metro mover hopefully i'll be able to stream from the subway and it doesn't interfere marshall saying it's not a subway there's another rooster over there okay so you're gonna have my first experience riding the miami subway or the metro i'm not sure which is more correct if it even goes underground but there's the government center station and you'll be able to see the fair collection machines over there disabled mighty bold thank you so much for 1.99 i think i like to take it south one stop so you see here normal fares are 225 but because of further notice all transit fares have been waived so now is a good time to take public transportation without paying for it so let's take the metro rail [Music] how is she gonna get the bicycle up the escape wow that fit perfectly oops so so i think this is the metro mover stop [Applause] metro rail up so this way wow two bikes sounds like the train arrived already but it's okay i don't need to take this one it'll be cool to see it depart and i'll just take the next one really cool green line okay even on the train or the platform anything all right sorry okay so unfortunately i cannot bring a camera onto the train according to that security guard now i'm not sure of miami transit's policies on that but i'll have to look it up i know the the washington metro you're not allowed to record until unless you have written a thought authorization from the transit authority they have to arrange it riding the trains [Music] but i can take the metro move and report on it i had no problems with it earlier dave's saying it's the same all requests to film on transit or surrounding properties must go miami-dade office of film metro also the path the new york city subway you're allowed to record without any issues this is the omni loop train is a popular station government center attention metro mover riders [Music] the view isn't that good because of the rain [Music] hopefully it gets better uh when i was in boston i know the boston you're allowed in boston you're allowed to report on the trains but now i know dc has an issue and now miami so oh no i'd focus on happened there this is night center station the next stop is miami station yeah i took the wrong train i was supposed to take the other one the yellow one because i want to go into the financial district please hold on the train is approaching miami avenue station do you bet say i can report on the public transit all right i have to look it up myself but if i can and i'm definitely making a subway video eventually or a metro rail video you see what i had to go through if i was able to take that train the metro rail would have been one stop right here but now i gotta go from here to here back to here back to here and i gotta take this train all the way here for financial addition the next stop is government center station transfer here for lecture whale omni-loop and wrinkle loop oh turn coming up so this is the financial district huh lots of tall buildings i wonder what i'll be able to see in the financial districts there's a waterfront path here that looks kind of interesting mary brickell village is to my left simpson park is to the right let's go to simpson park that sounds kind of neat wait this is brickle avenue i recognize this now no i want to continue going straight because this will lead me to uh the waterfront you know what i know what i'm doing i'm walking down here i'm making a left on southeast 15th road walking around the waterfronts and then i'll head over to brickell key brick o'key sounds kind of interesting dimitrios mediterranean cuisine huh aha i can tell why this is the financial district bank united hsbc banco santander show me the big banks the big money right i wonder where's bank of america and jp morgan chase citigroup goldman sachs maybe umbrella's going up again [Music] there it is southeast 15th roll next signal [Music] oh here's the four seasons hotel really upscale hotel i think i was looking into this hotel they charged like 400 a night or something up we got rain again we got rain again city national bank and my shorts are getting wet now as well as my crocs but i can live with that chase h.i.g capital bank of new york mellon here we go jp morgan chase actually this is like the new york bank section because you have jp morgan chase here and you have bank of new york there's the b bus which goes to key biscayne it's a lot of tall buildings here i can already tell this area that i'm walking to down there is going to be really nice we're going to go right out into key biscayne and see all the water where it's not key biscayne it's a biscayne bay t biscayne is another area south of here hope there's a sidewalk on make sure to clean the bottom of my foot really well wow this place is called the hyatt centric there's a hotel really upscale hotel here the yacht club at brickell that's pretty neat too ffc t-hawk this is the tallest building in miami this one the panorama oh my gosh it is tall it is tall i can see why this street is flooded too that's one thing i heard about miami is that they have a lot of problems with flooding because it was built upon like swampland and marshland and as a result there's not much place for it to drain into so so this is brickell bay drive huh reminds me of center drive in long island city queens man to have a place along here must be very pricey i don't think many tourists come here at all besides me right brickell wine bank over there hey look it stopped raining yay here's another hotel to my left the plaza the plaza on brickell dawn's saying the sun will dry it up in no time and then i'll be super humid i'm pretty sure it's going to be super humid there's a parking garage if you want to park here and then you can make a big box at the financial district you know what people say that the south beach miami beach is where all the money is but coming here down to the financial district brickell this area has got a lot of money and stuff too four ambassadors da tang zheng wei fang authentic asian cuisine wow and you know what i love about this area more than the south beach it's got great internet service so uh let's go over here i think this is the brickle key now yep the brickell key this is another area of the downtown area of miami that's like really exclusive i know that because you see up there that's the mandarin oriental hotel that's like the top of the top hotels that i saw when i was looking at hotels to stay at i think that hotel the mandarin hotel they wanted like 500 600 a night just to stay there and if anyone wants to confirm about confirm that you're more than welcome to because i don't know how much it costs now let's see if we'll get a 500 view from the brickell key [Applause] there you see the part of downtown where i came from [Applause] marcel am i going to the brickell key bridge this is the brickle key bridge i'm walking over it now last sunday thin veil thank you so much for the five bucks appreciate it very much sam used to live in this area where i'm at but it was so much fun at the south beach i can tell already i mean just walking over here it's just all residential there's no restaurants there there's like i mean there's limited restaurants but not as many options as the south beach [Music] so let's see how the brickle key is mandarin oriental hotel look at that huh that must be a lot of money take a look at this place the core over sir i don't know what happened to my phone but the screen got really dark so it's hard for me to read people's messages but i can still make it out i don't think there's a public bus off this island the brickell key definitely not it's like a gated area well what i'll do is i guess i'll walk around the island i don't want to go through it what does this say individuals have spotted a coyote entering brickell key be cautious and aware uh-oh got to be careful of the coyote here stuart's saying the trolley gets me off the island okay sweet one thing i have to say is um the internet service has been fantastic today that is a bridge that bay and brickell from this vantage point one appreciates brickell key's beautiful views of biscayne bay and the high-rise towers of famous brickell avenue once known as millionaires road for its bayside bayfront mansions brickell is now considered a major banking center what millionaires row this is it wow i gotta snap a picture of this i didn't even know i walked through millionaires row [Applause] and this view over here is nice too sounds like a lot of quaker parrots [Music] around so i guess um i have to say something this may be oh gosh oh oh oh i just had to walk through that registered hotel guests only okay man they're in oriental miami i'm not going there i didn't pay for your hotel so i'm not going there anyway i mean i am curious what's over there i'm not able to see it but maybe i could put my camera over this fence here and look so tell me what you see because i can't see anything the screen's so dark so what's over there oh it's a private beach wow i don't think anyone's using it now who's going to be out here in the rain the size of me right mother and child artwork that's cool all right so you pay 500 a night and you get access to a little tiny beach extra internet service because of bad connection i know i think that's what i'll have to consider right when moving to a new place for me it's not really the location or like how good the house is but number one will probably be internet service how's your wi-fi quality here before i move in oh wait a second there's another waterfront path here what but um i don't think i'll walk down that way too much because i know the internet connection there is gonna suck anyway so let's just go over these benches over here and try to get a panorama in yeah it doesn't even go around the island it looks like it curves down there so there is downtown miami and uh sorry about that i need to close my umbrella let me do it again panorama soren tinto if i walk down that path you'll see the 21 foot sculpture at the end and you live there all right uh let me see how long this path is yeah i don't think i want to go down there i don't want to take a chance with that internet connection instead i'll walk back downtown neon 99 4.99 another great walk even with the weather by the way how's the food in miami i don't know i haven't eaten at enough restaurants to tell you i've only eaten at two restaurants the rest was from the grocery store brickell key trolley when's this trolley coming so uh okay so it's this one here definitely needs an update forget the trolley i ain't waiting for a trolley let's walk across brickell key bridge how about this view now you can see the buildings the visibility got so much better from earlier shirley j johnson saying in florida you need a car i'm not too certain about that because i was able to get around quite fine without the use of a car besides the airport but pretty much everywhere i went was by public transportation so far larry's saying you definitely need a car in florida maybe not miami i was able to get around but maybe in the other parts of the state you do then again i'm not really a normal person i probably walk more than like 90 percent of the population i would think yeah priscilla oliver florida keys you do need a car to get there i have to say i've been walking around these new clocks for a good amount of time now about two and a half hours and i still feel comfortable walking around in them diana gonzalez asking if i'm meeting up with james and carla great question i'm meeting up with them tomorrow and they will be showing me around the area maybe we'll do a live stream together and it'll be fun it'll be fun to collab with them in an area that's not new york city so i noticed that right now i'm pretty close to the miami tower if i make a right at the next streets i'll be rear uh really near it and bay front park that area [Music] maybe we'll head that way towards the right let's see are we going to see any supercars over here any rolls-royces lamborghinis ferraris nope these people driving over here are not classy enough [Music] in miami if you don't have two lamborghinis you don't mean anything she hey look the biscayne trolley is here it just looks like a trolley where it's electric uh it's runs on gas and it should might it could might as well be called a bus it's a uh fake trolley i find it kind of funny actually all right it's still the financial district here look we have bank of america and merrill lynch another new york based bank from my understanding anyway i think bank of america is in new york and over here we got fleming's prime steakhouse and wine bar uh i guess we'll go see look my shoes are not squeaking anymore all dry oh we got citibank on that corner and there's the wells fargo tower i'm very familiar with that area already traffic jam across the streets first presbyterian church i'm shocked my phone batteries last this long two hours and a half meanwhile in new york it would last like two minutes two hours because of the cold weather here's mary brickell park here's the w hotel miami this looks pricey too and icon brickell it's nice and cool right now the temperature just dropped dramatically so so john or c saying it's 329 a night for this hotel there's the mouth of the miami river so [Music] i think i'm gonna take a picture here from this bridge seriously it's like the rain just passed and it's beautiful now with all the yachts let me turn it on wide angle there we go that's the million dollar view right here all righty are these all pricier some can be a little less pricey i'm actually staying at a hotel that's very near here for around 120 a night so you'll be very surprised what you can get here right now [Music] let's see where's the miami tower i might even go there to end this live stream miami tower oh it's only a block away but i gotta cross the street uh oh gosh gosh gosh let's run for it oh ari with five dollars appreciate it this hotel is over here is the hyatt regency hotel and that one over there is the courtyard marriott and this uh area here is connected to the convention center wait is this the miami tower i think it is yeah that's the miami tower and we got the metro mover here whole foods market well i think this might be a good place for me to end this live stream with a money shot of the miami tower if you
