nice new summer adventure today we're going to look for artillery shells I just put my boat in the water and I was going around picking up some of the fishing line that I'm going to show you actually right along the road here and people fish here a lot and they're leaving their fishing line tangled up on the bank and that's very very bad because animals come along and they get that tangled up in their legs and on their feet and it acts like a new so they might wander off a hundred yards and get tangled up in a bush and they starve to death there or that where the line gets wrapped around their leg and it rots off so always take up fishing line I always pick up fishing line whenever I see it on the ground like that if you look right down there oh that's probably hard to see there's a nice shiny new fishing lure so I'm going to pick that up when I get in the boat and that's our first River treasure so the spinner bait is a little worse for wear but he's take it off the river and also at this little jig - that was tangled up on some of the line I have to leave this right here at my truck for now I'll put it inside soon as I come back we made it up here to where I want to start and now I guess the only thing we have to do is get in and start looking over we're going to find something I'm a fingers crossed I feel pretty good about getting our killer shell and I think if we get one we'll get a bunch of them but if nothing else who was a fun ride so far today one of my first point of the day and it is not a civil war artillery shell it is a Victoire leg hold trap this is an animal trap that's used to catch muskrats and raccoons and stuff like that you see the spring is broken on it you look at the trap pan that little round thing that's what is actually triggers the trap that B stands our Victor that's how I know it was it Victor brand well I found a couple of these now most you probably know what that is and for those of you that don't as part of a metal fence post it's actually broken probably on two ends which find a lot of these in the river and the reason is during floods things get tangled up in the fences that along the rivers like trees and whatnot and it'll rip the fences out and drag them down the river so you could always be careful because there's a lot of barbed wire in the river that's one of the reasons people dump them in the river you know dump the barbed wire in the river but it also gets tangled up in trees and stuff and well the danger situation these posts aren't so bad but I'm not taking this out because I'm going to probably find 23 of them today I always do well been at it now for over an hour and I've not found anything really cool except horseshoes and their big horseshoes so they're kind of neat I'm going to save them and let you see what I have mostly just been finding a lot of fence wire and just you know junk but these are really big either for like you know plow horses I guess big workhorses oh that's a gigantic horse in it so we're going to hang out here a little bit longer probably you know maybe about 23 minutes does have to get to the gym not really oh this is a big heavy doohickey I don't think we're going to carry this out with us though Wow I'm sure that would have gone too well how old it is I don't imagine it's that old maybe a hundred years maybe less hey all right let's keep moving well it just got another smaller horseshoe that could be like her from a riding horse a lot of horseshoes this stretch in the river I think that's what I'm finding today and another another riding horse I suppose the move location from where I was finding the horseshoes and the river is a lot clearer here now I have a really good signal here I've uncovered it sounds like a shell but it it doesn't I can see it I'm not positive it's a shell my 50/50 right now I thought I'd share it with you I find that I can't you see it now let's go under and look at it what do you say I don't think I don't know I had a suspect it's not a shell I just don't know okay hold your breath oh well well we know what that is don't we that is a piece of pig iron it's about the right size ask the name on it - but the furnaces name on it and maybe not sounded like a shell when it was buried so that's a good sign I mean no one else has been through here yet we might have some luck yet I'm hopeful do you remember what that is yep yourself up waa looks like a PowerPoint ass go on and look at it one more time fill up on that you find a lot of those in the rivers and I don't know but just because farmers pitch them in there out of the fields or people use them for anchors at suspects maybe a little bit of both but it will make a great anchor it cost like nothing so probably anchor well I just found a window wait this is what they would put in the walls and make a big heavy windows and the old-timey houses go up and down easier I don't think it's got a stamp on it too huh well I tell you I'm encouraged that I found this and that piece of pig iron because someone's already dug here I'm running over some old holes so there definitely has been people in here already but they missed this and it sounded like a maybe a Hotchkiss show not like a parrot but had a nice sound to itself maybe left us one or two I'll here's a good example of a toe point you can see it's broken off right there the tips broken off that's why they got rid of it I guess a lot of these in here some are dug some aren't I'm not going to keep it other nice heavy iron things but you know just you can't carry that much weight even in a motorized boat on a river like this because you know I have to go drag it sometimes anyone going over the shallow area I can't keep all outside true wish I collected these things man I have a bunch of them today well it's paid off I have a shell I haven't picked it up yet watching the waters really cloudy so you might not get to see it underwater oh yeah I can see it now I'll does a shell not a pipe but my pipe no I'll have to check it out together tons of those pile pieces in here I mean I'm finding them left and right part of them aren't dug up so the person for people who were in here before me you know didn't do a real good job but that's okay man the show because I really really thought it was what do you think I guess a shell let's go under before getting into the just moves I'm pretty sure that's the Confederation it's a reed got a little ring around the top part of it awesome you ready let's go ahead and pick it up this time I think wasn't even buried was it alright let's go grab her wardrobe wrap is indeed oh look at that baby that's a 100% Confederate artillery shell he had a little dimple in the bottom that's called early example that's how they wouldn't laid that down that's a wooden pews adapter and the hole that's in the middle would have been where paper fuse would have been in it so it's completely completely 100% safe to handle because it was just full of water ha ha nice that's all chopped up that something ugly show by the way all right let's get back at it another plot point a big old shark's tooth I've never seen so many of them seen in this river this is a pretty cool find right here you know what it is that is a fish big it would have had a long wooden pole on the end of it and you would stab fish with it you can see how it's got the little barbs on the ends of the middle points there this could be very old could be 1700s or 1800s I have one on what's exactly like it in my collection that I found probably 20 years ago that's pretty cool right there I haven't found one of those in a long time that's handmade by the way and that neat this is a really good example of why there's so much fence wire and fence posts and the river that's a post right there and of course this is big balls a wire you can see it's just all up against the bank I think this is actually a dump though because if you look right over there there's a bunch of cinder blocks and whatnot so I think somebody's yeah you see more up there so they actually dump this into the river all those fence wire - that's why there's so much iron in the river and why it's so important if you do river hunting like this that you wherever metal tech to get make sure it has a really good discriminator on it and preferably a very fast processor because you're going through tons iron all the time as you can imagine well I'm just about done hunting for the day I might hunt just a little bit longer and if I do I'll just work that clip into the video let me show you what I have so far today just seeing everything it's basically just some horseshoes in one shell but I'll show it to you again if you'd like to see it this is my one artillery shell from the American Civil War as Confederate it is a really beat up I don't know why it's a beat up like that of course I thought this might be from like a disc where there disking the field but I'm not so sure because it's this hit pretty hard bunch of horseshoes and pig iron at the old trap and the fish gig that's about it not a single bullet one which for me was really surprising is I thought would least find a couple fired bullets or hopefully drop bullets but we didn't find any I'm not quite done like I said so there is some hope that we might find one more good item I got my fingers crossed put if not we'll see you on the next trip [Music]
