Mercedes Benz Marco Polo V Class - Camper Van Tour

[Music] today we've got something special we're looking at the Marco Polo and Mercedes here very kindly lent those so they're come with us we're gonna have a look around right so the Marco Polo comes in two different guises you got the sport which I believe this one is and then he got the AMG line but mainly the difference is cosmetic so bigger wheels on the AMG but it and a few extra options like different sort of spoiler on the front that kind of stuff also the Marco Polo comes in two different engines both Diesel's both two-point one liter you've got a 140 horsepower engine and a hundred and ninety horsepower engine sue oh good good powered engines comes a standard with an automatic gearbox and prices start for the lower engine in the Sport trim starts at around about 53,000 pounds so it's a bit more expensive than a VW California but it comes with much more spec as standard this one's finished in a lovely black paint previously glass is standard which is pretty cool about 600 pound for the awning I don't you can get that in two different colors or not I imagine not without this one's silver on this car it's an electrically operated roof similar to the ocean and if we work our way around you've got a powered tailgate which is very nice it's almost silent we also have a little opener oh that's quite cool so you can imagine and asleep or just woken up in the morning looking out over the Italian lakes like that yeah yeah yes that's quite cool you've got the point so it has a I'm not sure what size tank is but there's a freshwater tank and also a waste water tank just like in the California then there's a 230 Bowl plug the count of the Cali the Marco Polo also has an ATM power pleasure battery on board as well so you can be off-grid for a while night window just like on the other side there so here we are inside the Marco Polo and from first impressions for me anyway it's really quite luxurious in here like leather seats and I quite like the cream in the black and coloring as well that's quite cool and you can poverty so we swiveled the seats round which again is a feature with the California but it is a feature here as well the seats were pretty much exactly the same as telling around California really easy and I think I would be quite worried of the leather catching on things I think that would scare me a little bit and however you know really comfy seats nice spec I think bit worried about the fact that they're white feather though because I think especially with having a dog or if you had kids and things like that that would be pretty terrifying comes up even just blue jeans is a bit scary on white leather and however it does look very good a lot of people like it so I do you think looking at this the Marco Polo is a bit bigger than the California as well and and what they've done here that I really like is the fact that they've split it into three different sections so the first section here is where the sink is very nice looking sink as well then the second section is for the too hot furnace and actually these are huge as laser spacer and again I've never complained in the California but this is bigger to me so more space and then obviously you've got an absolutely huge chest fridge there there is a fly down there that's obviously come to its own demise I don't think that comes with all of them it's quite interesting because the California now has their split so which is really handy so when you're cooking you can have the sink section down but have the hop bit up which just gives you a bit more work top to sort of prepare stuff on yeah and then they've got lots of lots of space here your space I do like that because that's so much easier to find stuff at the Vatican that's one of my biggest bugbears of the California is the fact you can't find things at the back this one looks like it's a slider so slide okay yeah so again that's the same as the California then yeah these are all soft clothes that of it they'll get easier to open I'm sure drawers one thing to be aware of is so that's a cutlery drawer in there and it looks really deep however the sink does eat into that there so you couldn't par that too high but that's not an issue because I still think it's tasty I think it's a lot more lace in the California especially that fridge I think that's quite wide it's lower so it's much easier to get things out of but it does seem like it's a longer vehicle we'll say yeah it is sliding I didn't do you think that's a massive bonus for the Marco Polo the fact is a little bit bigger one minor complaint I have or actually could be quite a beta complaint is the edges down here if you've got kids that's a really sharp edge there and when you've got the chairs push back that doesn't go with it that's in a furthest back position which is done and that would that would really hurt you like and especially at nighttime when you're climbing back down sometimes it's quite easy to step off a bit too close and god that would hurt nothing to watch out for especially with kids I do you think in this space here with the door when you've got it sort of fully closed in it does feel like there's much more space in here what the blinds like okay I do think the California blinds better because they go all the way around the window so there is no gap and when you close these wrong here but you can quite easily see the side thing yeah and that would make me nervous at nighttime because especially the window in the corner there where I'm stuck here yes I can easily see out you know it's quite intrigued indeed a gap saver I don't if we're missing anything we might be bit and yeah a bit not too sure about that I also think they'll last longer than the California's at California's to feel like a bit of break and every time I put them down especially the one on the door it seems to be a bit hard work but and they don't seem too bad that covers it better cause it's bit closer another feature I really like is the fact that you can open this back window here and just buy this button that's a bit cool in it handy and that'd be quite nice like security at night because it's not gonna wake them fully yeah I'll get a nice breeze down here yeah a lot of that no anything like breeze coming through that's very cool like that future storage space what's that like yes I really like the fact it's got the monopole canvas not quite picking that up but there you go yeah that's what that looks very luxurious then you press this it's quite a messy as huge chess thing yeah that's cool I like that and the speakers are put aside there it's heavy day so if you've already got stuff in there that might be quite a challenge to shut what's on the side that feels nice a bit yeah that's nice slime that's good that's a very big wardrobe bit as well so again like the California you've got an area in here the gas bottle I assume is underneath there you've got shelf up at the top there you got little area for magazines yeah tiny magazines and the blind for the rear window is fitted on here however it does attach into there so you have to make sure that you don't open the back with that touched on its ass intriguing this has a shower point which I again I didn't see that in the options that might be standard the all the biggest difference is as well with the compressor California it's where the tables and chairs are so you got an outdoor chairs an outdoor table in there they sit in here hm they're not in here at the minute they're in the showroom still because they took this out the showroom today for us but yeah that's quite intriguing you can also access it from in the back yeah this takes up quite a bit of space in my mind however by not having them in here the tailgate is a lot thinner and that's what absent er the extra space inside so that's useful pros and cons the tables relatively easy good-sized table a sliding thing on this one and I'll tell you what this the camera doesn't pick it up in here and very well it's not a wide-angle lens but and now that I'm sat here Lizzy sat there with the table out you can definitely tell this is bigger than the colorful oh yeah you've got and so much more space which and I'm sure that you would like but it is three-stage dimmable so it's almost a bit mean it's almost exactly the same light sort of that you'd get in here because we have three lights one big one and then two little avoids but if you can change the brightness it doesn't matter same on that side as well got more air vents in here yes and want to shows the bed upstairs then yeah biggest difference for the bed it looks like it's huge it looks really comfy but it's a fact that it's not on gas struts so you have to undo these and then let it come down those are separate pants so same method to climb up put on their bum on the bed and lift yourself up so that seems three full length again she's good seems to be about the same size I think yeah it's really comfy we use a mattress topper on ours don't we yeah I wouldn't say you'd need that for this a lot of people don't bother though with their California because we got on the side here you can have a zip area it's very light up here I think in the morning you get woken up quite early because of how light the sides are then you could get one of those Marco topper muck a Tolo top you've got them on both sides you know you don't have one in the front that's nice what you got the top there so like a reading light I believe Callie's used to have that kind of setup and now they've got them sort of flush in the roof but that's quite cool is that you got three stage dimmable lights on that again yeah that's quite cool so has a single USB part and like a shelf as well which is quite handy just put your phone in when you charge in at nighttime okay again and like the cover woman you got draw down the bottom here we just divided actually so you got couple spaces they're not quite as big as in the funny but big enough fits shoes in there no problem now this is the biggest difference to the California now these chairs in chair mode of properly comfortable chairs lovely lever and bolster that the side as well so they feel like more like chairs earth inflatable isn't it yeah so to turn into a bed what you need to do is slide it using this leaf on the side here it slides really easily it's a lot easier than the cover that's way too far forward and it seems to me now you can take your tip headrests out which is a bit of a pain as bit of shame you can't just flip them over like the California but there's a little hole they slot into at the back when I've seen previous sort of footage of that I thought that'd be a bit of a ball out but it's not bad at all now this is the funky bit you see the buttons down here so what you do is hold that button okay and it's rising up as well as lowering down to make a flat flat base that's very first class isn't it has a bit cool in it that's very first path on an airline yeah are you - you have to hold it oh you do it's now deflating as well these side bolsters are also deflated so again same with that one you can do both at the same time I'm sure pretty cool so what if you could recline whilst to him drive along cause you could be belted up still recline I don't know he'll maybe actually allowed to do that or not lower yeah so that while that was not going all the way down something in the way still making you annoying though I think it's cuz that was deflated that's why so I don't know why that's happened I can't feel anything underneath but anyway yeah I think you get the idea with that if I am slide it bit further back so that's you do deflect them further yeah God knows why that's like that so it's quite caucus it's D play to nothing and the fact that their seats perhaps a little bit over engineered maybe but it does give you that luxurious feel when is in travel mode and I still think topper yo yeah I think it's one thing I really love and everyone knows that I like my fairy lights and my twinkly lights in the fan and things like that but this switch here well this is underneath that button there's no USB socket and some random socket so that's like a euro socket and then you've got the fuse box as well there it's a bit may be ashame that that's kind of opening doesn't look that great not sure if this is standard I like that and listen to how quiet it is it just won't require one thing I don't like in the morning at camp sizes fact that when I get out to go to the toilet or whatever I must wake up half the campsite by shutting the door behind mean there's no quiet way of doing it yeah but this is very quiet they might get yeah that's really good as well one thing that's interesting is this doesn't come with an inverter so you can't power 230 volt appliances when you're off grid you have to be plugged in to the mains whereas with the California you can power items that are up to 150 watt just off the battery and so that's one thing to bear in mind but that's we've not actually you've ever needed that I don't think because we have 12 volt TV that kind of thing so that's interesting and however the biggest difference between this and the California ocean is this does not come with a heater as standard what which is a bit unusual you can't get a water heater and you can get a normal diesel air heater like in the California the water heater is about 1390 1,400 pound option so I'm not entirely sure that I'd be that fussed about that because we've not needed it in the callee um however we do use the air heater in ours all the time the diesel heater because we like to go away all year-round so and that's a 2000 over 2500 pound option I believe there's definitely over 2000 which it's kind of a necessity for me I think definitely I think so so bear that in mind when looking at them but still even if you have just that to the basic engined sport and you've got fantastic can't prevent definitely yeah I think it's very luxurious and the bigger one at that so in the California the control panel for the fridge heating and everything like that is up at the top here in this it is not it's down here right down the bottom which is quite interesting the same sort of thing tells you your water levels open and close the roof that one there will be the fridge that's off beacon turn it on all this functions quite cool you've got a nice sort of this is all the command module for that there's no handbrake in the middle which is great it's electric handbrake which is down the side there which is good I think I think this is the kind of vehicle that really benefits from a an electric handbrake just so it frees up space in the middle so you've got plenty of space there you've got a lot of space in in the actual cabin as well as you're driving along it's very luxurious yes lovely so there's a cup holders there which is there's something that sort of side bit but not in the front maybe have someone there and holds it for you from my own perspective it's really luxurious I would quite happily have one of these there's only a few minor quirks I think aren't as good as a California but then Mercedes have done things in some ways better than the California as well so it really depends on what you want as an individual it's definitely a consideration for people I think yeah come and have a look at one of these yeah definitely before you definitely pick a California yeah both have pros and cons so and yeah so let us know
