well folks in today's video we're going to be unboxing an entire collection of vintage aine blue box locomotives these were sent in from a guy in Arizona named Ricky and the story behind getting these engines is kind of an interesting one see around two years ago Ricky reached out to me saying that his grandfather had given him a whole bunch of vintage aine engines which he no longer had room for he wanted them to go to a good home somebody who would take care of them and fix them up so he offered me the entire collection provided I paid for all these shipping and fees to get them here which to me just seemed like an incredibly generous offer now I was aware at the time that I was taking a bit of a risk here because when you're sending somebody money for them to ship you something there isn't really anything to stop them from just running away with your cash so without that kind of recourse you know you really have to be careful but I knew this guy threw some different group chats and stuff and he seemed like an upstanding dude so I sent him the money about a week later he told me he was going to get them ship and then things took a very unusual turn his account completely disappeared off of Instagram and then it was total radio silence for an entire year and a half so I was pretty confident at that point that I'd been swindled and you know frankly I knew I was taking a risk but uh something surprising happened about a year and a half later uh a similar account pops back up on Instagram it has sort of the same name and I get a message and it says hey smt I so sorry this has taken so long my life has just been pretty hectic so I wasn't able to ship your trains out but I got them shipped out this week they should be there soon so I was shocked I was you know completely sure that I would never see these things but then surprisingly a week later they all showed up so this Ricky dude was uh upstanding which is great to see you know I really like to think the model railroading Community is you know pretty honest but I have heard some bad stories before so you do have to be careful anyways we're going to be unboxing this collection and testing everything out I think that there's some pretty interesting stuff in here it's been so long I don't even entirely remember what the contents is but there's a very easy way to find out so let's dig in this box right here is the lightest of the bunch so we'll start there oh look at that it's a little Atlas N scale 060 diesel that's really cool you didn't mention anything about sending N scale stuff well that's already an awesome start check it out we got an Old Santa Fe locomotive this thing uh looks to have a little bit of damage but uh overall not too bad with a little bit of repair work I think this could be an awesome locomotive now to one of the larger boxes wow look at that so I think that most of these are sd4 40 d2s we've got a Burlington Northern one which looks to have suffered a little bit of damage but I'm sure we could get that all fixed up pretty easily then we got one from the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe also need of a little bit of work another uh Burlington Northern locomotive got an old uh SF unit I don't think I have anything from this Railroad and this one looks to be in pretty decent shape this one looks pretty much identical to the other one minus a few digits on the number boards and then down here looks to be a whole bunch of Santa Fe units I think this is another SD 40-2 but it's got the a longer nose and then another identical unit and then we got a more conventional SD 40-2 got a Union Pacific sd402 and then finally another Santa Fe locomotive and down here looks like we actually got ourselves an old Super Chief look that somebody even installed visors on here what a beauty so that's it for this first box if you can believe it there are two more and I mean this is already just an incredible start oh looks like we got another Burlington Northern SD 40-2 looks like the plow came off this one and then uh pretty nice looking Union Pacific unit looks like this one might have got a little bit jammed up in transit these a are pretty easy to work on so I imagine uh depending on what the condition of everything is we will probably be able to get a lot of it going again and saving the best for last Here's the final Mega Box let's have a look what's inside here oh this is looking good whoa so we got a Chicago Northwestern funit another Santa Fe F unit so and Chicago Northwestern this one right here is uh an old Missouri Pacific lines look at that took we're short of wheel there but that shouldn't be a problem what this an fp45 War Bonnet I'm guessing this one right here is a-9 Chicago Northwestern operation Lifesaver unit looks pretty nice short a couple truck covers but I'm seeing a lot of loose Parts in here so I think many of these still do have their parts they just need to be uh reattached but what a cool looking unit to Union Pacific das9 I believe and this one right here looks to have had a little bit of weathering done to it too oh look at this BNSF Dash Niner this one is a uh a dummy unit you can tell by the uh plastic Wheels there and then we got bit of a Jeep pretty nice another dash9 or something this one uh looks a little rough I don't know if it was exposed to some water this actually just looks like uh somebody did a bit of painting down here oh no it was exposed to water H that one right there might be a bit of a repair job let's look at all these things this one's weathered too got another weathered unit I think I saw the uh truck in the box there it is here's the same unit as before but uh with a little less weathering another SF unit Santa Fe another Santa Fe but little bit of a different paint Scheme and then finally an Amtrak unit and this one appears to have been modified it's got some sort of a vent on the back there I haven't seen that modification before but yeah um wow what a incredible thing to send somebody I really just can't believe that somebody would send all these locomotives I mean this is just ridiculously generous this is way more than he showed in the pictures too you know I think in the photos there was maybe like 20 and from what I can see here there's maybe like 30 locomotives absolutely wild anyways let's uh take all these locomotives to the track and test them all out I'm really curious to see you know if any of them are in working order I mean you know considering their old a I bet that most of them are probably going to do something but I'm curious to see just what the condition actually is all right I just quickly went and got the old table all set up and laid everything out I'm going to be really curious to see how many of these start I mean aine locomotives are some of the toughest out there in my opinion but a few of them look like they've had some pretty rough miles so it'll be interesting to see how many out of 32 actually fire up let's put it to the test beginning with the Chicago Northwestern this one looks to be pretty much intact so I feel like it's got a decent chance of starting here yeah no problems well we're starting off with a good one next up is the Santa [Music] Fe yep [Music] looks like we got another goodie something's not right about the front truck but won't give it power anyhow whoop looks like we're uh shorted something's not quite right with that one second Santa Fe unit this one looks to be in pretty good shape and in fact it runs yep no [Music] issues got this really cool looking War Bonnet [Music] unit [Music] ooh this thing is like some sort of a low rider it's got a suspension system on it or something that's uh really something I've never seen before but figure that out another day next we got the Missouri Pacific [Music] oh yeah it's a little rougher in forwards it sounds like there might actually be a cracked here but it does run Santa Fe GP 38 or [Music] something oh this one's really uh good smooth I'm pretty confident this one will go oh I was wrong this one doesn't want to start and I can tell you why you can see the uh motor mounts have sunk in so Motors probably just popped out of place and isn't making contact with the plate below it this one seems good fantastic [Music] well sounds like it's got a loose flywheel but uh despite being you know cosmetically identical to the other one it does run now this one's missing its front truck or at least it's just not installed so I don't think well it's not going to run because it won't be able to stay on the track but it might [Music] start not so got the old uh brillington Northern one oo okay so that's really weird it's moving a little bit so we know the motor is not locked up but there's something preventing it from fully turning over so I'll have to uh open that one at up at some point okay for now it's only a six wheeel Drive [Music] model these a are uh pretty remarkable [Music] Eh this one certainly looks a little more pristine than the others well something's off there I don't really know why it went backwards but not forwards but uh there's clearly something not right with the gear box giving this one some power so far I'm not seeing anything [Music] NADA that one seems okay it's a little bit uh it's starting to pick up I think it just hasn't been running a while this one doesn't quite feel right to me the front truck is definitely out of place yes see it won't even uh it won't even swivel but at least the um the motor and gears seem to be fine now here's basically an identical [Music] unit yeah oh no forwards just probably needs a good wheel [Music] cleaning it runs another Santa Fe this one looks nice [Music] oh it's got a short circuit I have no idea what would be causing this to be all shorted out but uh got that sorted out at some point I feel like this one is going to start up oh yeah that one's uh pretty good got the uh Union Pacific one okay great big rolling railroad had it for a moment there yeah that thing runs and then uh here's basically an identical one now this is the one which has the gears which don't look so good so my expectations for it kind of low but might still be able to pick up power oh just thinking about [Music] it well it's moving but uh it's uh this one's struggling remarkably it's kind of powering through it but I'm not going to force it any longer CU I don't want to burn out the motor it's just amazing even with a gearbox that looks like that it still kind of runs this one's a dummy so we're not going to bother with it got the operation Lifesaver this one you know it looks pretty good so I think that we're going to see some good things happen [Music] here something's not so great there I was incorrect about this one okay I got another uh great big rolling [Music] railroad I'm just not seeing anything [Music] there [Music] oh well it's got a lose flywheel but the motor and gearbox are healthy got to working headlight so we know the uh drive system at least the wheels and everything are picking up power but but the motor itself probably dislodged and not touching that metal plate cuz uh there's no current draw or [Music] anything this one seems pretty good yeah that's great got the am Trak here and see this thing sounds like it's derailed but that's it uh actually grinding its [Music] gears doesn't seem to do it in reverse let's try it and forwards again yeah it's uh jumping out of gear there got the SF unit this one doesn't look uh too bad it's got reverse that was great and the final [Music] locomotive this one's super smooth fantastic well folks that's going to be it for today's video I hope you all enjoyed I certainly had a ton of fun opening up all these boxes and testing out all these different locomotives and uh Ricky if you're watching this thank you so much for sending all these engines it was insanely generous of you I really still can't believe how many engines were actually sent in and uh I can't wait to get working on these things you know the majority of them did turn out to be Runners at least to some extent which is really just another Testament to how tough old a engines are but even for the ones which don't run you know I really enjoy cracking these things open and working on them and I also went digging through all the boxes for any loose parts and you can see there's you know a fair collection here so I think it's going to be a lot of fun slowly putting all these engines back together getting all the handrails reattached and turning these into a collection of really fine locomotives and just to truly finish off this video why don't we quickly test out the end scale Atlas locomotive well it was revving to like 5 grand just a second ago and now the motor seems to have quit on me so uh I think this one's going to need a little bit of work as well but I think I'll finish off the video here thank you all so much for watching
