MEETING HIS PARENTS: THE CHRISTMAS NIGHTMARE | STORYTIME

well hello everyone welcome back to my channel welcome to my channel if you're new my name is Carrie and today is another storytime Saturday where every Saturday on my channel I tell a crazy story about my crazy life and today storytime is going to be another holiday themed storytime because if you guys didn't know for every Saturday in December I'm going to be doing a holiday themed storytime until Christmas so it's gonna be really fun today's story is gonna be really awkward so there was a time in my life where I dated a guy and we hadn't been together very long I think the entire relationship lasted like five or six months and in that time he decided to bring me home with him for Christmas it was kind of a super rash decision like we started dating in like July or August and this happened in December so it was kind of like I don't know we were young and dumb so I'll get into all that but if you guys are interested in hearing about the horror story about the time that I flew home with my then-boyfriend to meet his family then just go alright so this story starts maybe like seven years ago something like that this was around like I want to say like 2011 Christmas 2011 and I was dating a guy at the time and we'll call him Mike for the sake of this video and I was dating Mike and I have never talked about Mike in videos before number one because it was just such a short-lived relationship and number two he's a little mentally unstable and makes me a little nervous though like I said Mike and I had kind of been dating for around like I don't know I think we started dating in like July or August of that year so Christmas time was rolling around and Mike had been telling me that he was going back to Kansas where his family lived he was from Kansas he was just living in Nashville that we met at the restaurant we worked at and of course like you're in a brand new relationship it sees a ghost is in my room a few moments later okay anyways fix the tree that was a little creepy I though was saying if you're in a new relationship and like you're a brand new boyfriend asks you to go home with him for Christmas obviously it's like really exciting and you're really gonna want to do it so I was like yeah absolutely I can't say no offense if you're from Kansas but I can't say that I was like overjoyed about going to Kansas but I mean I was just excited because I knew I was gonna see snow for Christmas so I was so down so we booked our trips we planned out to go to Kansas for Christmas and my birthday so my birthday is December 27th if you guys didn't know so I typically don't do a lot for my birthday because it's two days after Christmas and like everyone's still out of town so I was kind of used to that so I thought it'd be fun to be out of town for my birthday this year and then the time came and right around the time we were getting ready to go to Kansas might kind of explains of living situation to me he was like you know we're gonna be staying at my parents how he was like my mom and dad are separated and they have been separated for about ten years but they lived together in my house like in their house and I was just like oh okay like no big deal I mean everyone has their own thing like whatever so the day comes it's like a couple of days before Christmas we get on the plane we fly into Kansas and they lived like two or three hours away from the airport so it was like the middle of nowhere where they lived like truly and actually the town itself was really cute it was super quaint like there was nothing wrong I'm not like dissing Kansas at all whatsoever it is just so different from anything I've ever known ever and when we landed we were meeting his parents like out on the curb they were coming to pick us up cuz we had the long drive back to their house and when I went to meet them I guess Mike had told his parents like oh yeah Kari gets really carsick which I do I get like incredibly carsick in the car he was like is there any way she can sit in the front seat so I went to go meet his mom and she said something like oh so you're the one who's gonna make me sit in the backseat this whole ride home and I was just like oh no no I can sit in the backseat I just have to save the middle like I just get carsick really easily but like you were more than welcome like by all means please they do not want you to think that I have to sit in the front seat at all my clique didn't back me up whatsoever he was just sitting there staring and I wanted to be like why would you put me in this position but okay like if your mom's crazy you should have told me but I was like you know what it's her son like I'm the first girl friend of his that she's ever met like I'm just gonna cut her some slack like whatever so I ended up sitting in the back seat I was like oh I was by no means like demanding I don't even think I said anything to Mike about he just brought it up but we were already off to a weird start like I was kind of like okay this is awkward so we get in the car and we're driving to the town that they lived in come on we're on our way the entire car ride is complete silence no radio no talking everyone's just sitting in silence and I'm like so do you guys what do you guys do for fun like do you guys you know enjoy I like going out and dancing do you knit and there were like we work so we don't really have a lot of time for that it's just like oh yeah this is how this trips gonna go and like I'm just a super social person and I I know a lot of people hate small talk and I kind of hate it as well but I do try to show a genuine interest especially if it's my boyfriend's parents who I'm trying to impress but I was just already getting the vibe that like either something was tense happening in the car or they just didn't like me I wasn't sure so I just kept my mouth shut so for like literally three hours we just sat in the car in silence I just stared at my phone and like was about to vomit from carsickness cuz I was just like anything to get me out of this world that I'm in right now mentally throw anyways we pull up to the house it's a super cute little quaint house in this like really small town in Kansas and it's very like snowy it's very wintry like it's just a perfect cute little winter scene it's kind of like what you would expect like when you arrive to someone's like you tiny little house for Christmas like in a movie or something I just thought it was so adorable so we go back to Mike's old room it's like still set up the way he left it and this is where we're staying this time he did warn me he was like hey I just want to let you know that we share a wall with my parents room and the walls are really really thin they're like paper thin so you can hear everything you can even hear talking like coughing he warned me he was like my parents snore and I was like oh I mean no big deal like my dad's tars and I kind of started thinking I was like wait a second like your parents share a room but like aren't they divorced anyway whatever none of my business it comes around the time for a dinner I think we like got back to the house took a nap and it came time for us to eat dinner and at the time I was a vegetarian and I know Mike told his family that I was a vegetarian and by no means like was I or will I ever be like that type of person that's like expects you to make something different like I can always go get something or like I don't know I can I can find ways around it but for this particular situation they lived in truly the middle of nowhere like I think the closest Walmart was like 45 minutes away or something like that it was not like a popin type of town and so we get ready to eat dinner and his parents had made lasagna and they had this you know beautiful dish of lasagna and there was just ground beef like running all through it and again I am NOT the type of person to complain so at the time I was just like trying to sort of pick around it but I mean I it's ground beef like it's literally and everything ground beef is literally impossible to pick around so I was not eating that part I was just eating like garlic bread cuz that's like all they had and I think like a salad so I was kind of like pushing my food around cuz I was like trying to at least be sort of respectful like make them think that I was eating his mom was like you haven't eaten any of your lasagna that I made no this is like oh god here comes this conversation and I was just like oh yeah sorry I'm actually a vegetarian so I'm sure it's delicious but I just can't really eat it because you know don't eat meat and they were like oh you're one of those people I'm like listen I get it it's not for everyone I totally understand but it just salt like I felt so attacked and I was just like oh no like I'm so sorry like I don't want to be difficult like I just yeah I just don't eat meat but like I can eat salad and like garlic bread and it'll be totally fine and they were like well we worked really hard to like prepare this meal cuz you were coming in town like you're not even gonna eat it I'm just like what the crap is wrong with this room like why do they hate me so that was very very strange so we like go to bed and we're getting in bed for the night and there's pretty much nothing to do except like watch TV so I think we watched a bunch of like planet Earth or something so we get ready we go to bed and his parents had already been asleep for a while and as soon as we walk in the room I hear what I can only describe as a snoring symphony two of the allowed snores I've ever heard in my entire life like alternating back and forth like so bad and I just kind of like turned and looked at Mike and I was like he was like yeah I told you it's really bad and I could it was literally like they were laying in bed with me I'm like a super super light sleeper in fact sometimes I even use earplugs because everything literally everything wakes me up so I was just like oh my god this is gonna be a long night so of course it was and it's not their fault at all I'm a guest in their home listen I don't expect them to like stop snoring for me it was just freaking funny so we wake up the next morning and it's Christmas Eve and Mike's dad had said hey we need to go to Walmart in the morning because I want to get some last-minute things for Christmas like wrapping paper you know someone and so forth we were going later that night on Christmas Eve night to one of their family's houses in like the next town or because they always do the Christmas Eve party with like a white elephant and all that kind of stuff so we get ready and we all four of us go in the car so it's myself Mike his mom and his dad and of course I don't dare go anywhere besides at the very back seat because I'm like oh my god this lady's gonna bite my head off so they're sitting in the front seat and we're getting ready and we start the drive it's like about like I said a 45 ish minute drive to Walmart and while we're on this drive it's not silent this time his parents are talking and I can tell already that it's like tense there the tension in the air long story short over the course of like you know 45 minutes in this drive by the end of it they were literally yelling at each other like yelling at each other like full-blown like what doth Betty what are you talking about shut up I'm gonna pull over this car and make you get out and all this stuff and I'm just sitting there like what like literally so awkward you can't like eject yourself from the car I wish I could have I literally would have pushed a button that ejected me through the roof there's nothing you can do you have to just sit there and endure it you can't like interject you can't say anything so I was just sitting there like oh my god like I was like sweating at this point I'm kind of thinking yeah I don't love being here I'm not loving this situation but I really you know at the time I liked this guy so I was like I'm gonna stick it out every family fights I'm not saying that that's abnormal people argue but it was it was kind of abusive verbal language between each other and it just made me uncomfortable at least like don't do it in front of your son and like his new girlfriend a girl just a little weird so whatever we get our stuff at Walmart we head back to the house we take like a quick nap we get ready and we head to the family's house like I said the next town over for the Christmas Eve party and we were gonna have dinner over there as well so I made my way into the house and you know no one really was introducing themselves to me it's kind of one of those things where it's like you don't just walk up and be like hey I'm Gary because you don't know anyone it's like you expect your boyfriend introduce you and like this guy was just really not socially very advanced so whatever anyways we get in I drop off the present and it's time to start eating so we make our way like kind of through the kitchen there's kind of this like you know assembly line thing going on and I make my way and I get my plate and I'm getting ready to start making food or you know scooping all my food on in my plate and like a distant cousin or an aunt or something like that was like oh so you're the one that's like the picky eater that doesn't eat anything anyone cooks and I was just like I was just like is it like really unheard of around here to be vegetarian and then like as I'm like making my plate I'm like putting you know mashed potatoes and like sweet potato casserole and things like that on my plate like people are like coming up to me and talking to me this one lady comes up and is like so what are your like intentions with my clique what are your long-term plans together like what do you do for a living and I'm like well I'm 23 so I don't really know my long-term plans at the moment but we work at a restaurant together so that's what I do for my it was just so weird like they were like sizing me up and I get it it's like you want to make sure that the person you love has like someone that you like but it was just such an abrasive like I have never experienced that in my life it's always been like welcoming like so tell us what you do like what do you love like you know it's never like so what are your intentions and like what do you do like what do you contribute to this relationship and I'm just like we work the same job so whatever we eat and I get that out of the way and then we start the white elephant gift exchange and he had this one cousin and I don't remember her name even but she was just like had it out for me from the beginning she was like one of the ones that was like kind of giving me and we were getting ready to play the white elephant game and she said something like do you know how to play this game like did they play it where you come from again just like these little snide like under-the-radar ways to like dig at me and make me feel like unwelcome so I will say about halfway through the game there was something that happened like if you haven't played like white elephant or dirty Sandra or whatever you can actually like steal gifts from people there was something that had happened where that specific cousin that it asked me the question like she had done it wrong I'd had like a couple glasses of wine and I was like did you not know the rules to the game like do you know how to play this here where you're from so anyways the party ends we go back we go back to the house we have Christmas it's actually like a pretty quiet Christmas I think I ended up crying that night so I was like it doesn't feel like Christmas I just was the same kind of thing continued so Christmas comes and go that I wanted to throw this in there too because two days later was my birthday and so we were in town for my birthday and we were leaving the next morning and so Mike at the time was like hey for your birthday let's like go to the mall and like shop around a little bit and then we'll go to like the local bar by my house it's like this hole-in-the-wall bar and like we'll meet up with some of my friends you can meet some of my friends from high school I was like okay perfect cool so we you know do the thing on my birthday and we get to like kind of the end of the night and we make our way to the local bar and we walk in and it's like the epitome of a small town a hole-in-the-wall local bar but it was so cool I really truly felt like I was in a movie like it was just so small townie and like it was really cool so I meet up with his friends from high school and one of the friends from high school he had kind of warned me about before him he was like hey I just want to let you know my friend Kelly I'll call her for this story my friend Kelly is gonna be there Kelly has had a crush on me for a long time so I just wanted to let you know so we walk in I need Kelly I'm like hey what's up and like the vibe is already there you know what I mean like sure you can tell that she does not like me and I'm like well I don't know I like you either sis I'm like not to toot my own horn but if you know me it's really not common it's not often that I don't get along with someone like I can find a common ground with just about anyone unless you're like racist homophobic like bigoted I can pretty much vibe with you but this girl we were not gelling at all there were like all hanging out playing pool sitting around talking and the girl Kelly keep sizing me up keeps giving me a dirty looks and I'm not gonna get into like all the details I'm like everything she did because I feel like it was just just trust me this girl did not like me we've been around for like a couple hours like playing pool talking like I said and Kelly is like hey Carrie you know what I want to buy you a shot it's your birthday and I really want to buy you a shot and I was just like oh okay like thanks that's nice so where we're at at the Times we're kind of standing like really close to the bar in my back is like facing the bar right here and there's like people kind of lined up like waiting for the bartender I mean by people there's like four people but there's people lined up waiting for the bartender to get their drinks and so Kelly kind of goes behind me and there's like people talking and there's music playing so it's not like quiet by any means but I can kind of like hear what's going on so I hear Kelly literally could not make this up if I tried go behind me walk up to the bartender and she literally looks at the bartender and goes I want you to give me the nastiest shot you can think of like can you mix like odd the alcohols together and I literally just turn my head and I was like you know I can hear literally everything you're saying right and she was like what what do you mean like I was ordering you a good shot I don't know what you heard but like I was ordering you a good shot I was just like you can't order it but I'm not gonna take it so long story short I did not end up taking the shot and that's pretty much more than I ended I ain't enough getting in a fight with Mike and then we had to ride and endure another three-hour car ride back to the airport the next morning we broke up shortly after not because of like it wasn't really his fault by any means but it just it wasn't it wasn't meant to be but the story was just too funny not to share so I hope you guys enjoy the cringy horrible awkward story about when I went
