hey everyone its Lisa from the blog Parmesan vidcom and today I'm going to share with you the home birth story of our newest family member and share his name so this little guy is Daniel Teddy Paul bass I'll share more about his name at the end of this video I want to dive right into the birth story because I know I shared a lot about that we're gonna be having a home birth throughout my pregnancy and so I want to share how that went so this was our third home birth our sixth baby we had our third child in the van on the way to the birthing center so he was almost a home birth this one actually was a lot different are you gonna wake up for this video early morning on October 16th at 1:00 a.m. I woke up in the middle of the night with my first contraction right away thought okay this is a I'm gonna be having the baby sometime tomorrow they kept coming all throughout that night but really irregularly so they were coming 15 minutes to 30 minutes apart that whole time but that was enough to keep me up that entire night so I woke up the next morning which I hardly slept at all and told Luke in the morning that we were gonna be having a baby today because that's how all my other births have gone I usually start off with some kind of sporadic contractions like that and then sometime in that next day it picks up and I end up having the baby so I fully expected that our baby was gonna be born on the 16th then the next day the 16th I made breakfast I made a couple videos for the blog I was just trying to go about my normal day not really think about the contractions and they mostly stopped so they kept coming but they were very sporadic like 30 minutes here sometimes even an hour apart they just were not picking up and I was really wondering why that was but I still kind of thought by the evening they would and at some point that day we did have a baby alright little guys gonna have to nurse and then we'll come back so I had my midwife appointment scheduled for 2:00 p.m. OHS my 40 week Midwife appointment and I was getting ready to leave the house because I was just discouraged nothing had really picked up at this point so I was like I'm just gonna go and as I was leaving Luke was like so are you gonna pack a bag because you're probably gonna get stuck down there and have to have the baby and I was like so you don't think I should go so I took my shoes back off and decided just to go take a nap and I called Naiad wife and told her I wasn't gonna be coming around 4 p.m. I believe I text her and I was like do you have anything I can do to make these come closer together because there's still 15 minutes apart they've for the most part been 15 minutes apart since last night at 1:00 a.m. they're not stopping they're still strong I have to relax through them but yet they're not going anywhere which was frustrating for me not that it was super difficult to do my day because I had such a break in between each one so it wasn't like I was in this excruciating pain or anything like that it was just I didn't want to be up again another night and I knew that if I was having those kind of contractions again all the next night that I would be up for two nights in a row completely and so she instructed me to do something called the miles circuit which this is something that I just learned about this pregnancy so I had never heard of this before and interestingly enough whenever I was sharing some of my pregnancy updates and telling you guys basically how I normally labor I normally do the Bradley method which I'll link Micah's birth story he was our last home birth in the cards and down below that way you can hear how a normal bradley birth goes basically the entire time I look like I'm sleeping I'm fully relaxed and the contractions are very manageable and it just makes for a really peaceful birth experience however I had some commenters telling me that's great but if anything ever gets stalled out with your labor you might need to move positions and do something else before this one I'd had for Bradley births they all worked very textbook and interestingly with that comment this one was one that I needed to figure out something I started googling it and I was thinking maybe something was off with the positioning and that's why things weren't progressing well that was what my midwife thought as well which is why she had me try this mile circuit I will link that below so that you can check out that website so that if you ever find yourself in this situation during your labor where things aren't progressing you can know what to do so I did the miles circuit basically it's just three different positions each for 30 minutes and it's supposed to reposition the baby contractions just kept coming at the 15 minutes apart now I did read on the website that some people have to do the mile circuit more than once to really get the baby in the right position and so I would say for me it didn't immediately work to get the baby in the position to make labor increase but they did keep coming they still weren't stopping at this point Luke had taken Micah over to my in-laws house because around I think 6 p.m. he decided that it looked like I was truly in labor and he didn't want my car around because if things got really serious really quickly we can always put a movie on or something for the older kids but Mike is a toddler and that wouldn't work so he brought Micah over to his parents and by now it was kind of like a thing but normally I kind of liked to almost act like I'm not in labor and not really tell anybody because it helps me personally to not get worked up about things just to kind of keep staying relaxed no big deal I'm not really in labor that's kind of what I tell myself so by him acknowledging that I was in labor I was almost a little bit annoyed now it turned out to be a very smart decision we'll see that shortly but it turned it into a thing where now everybody knew I was in labor I was getting text asked me how it was progressing and I wasn't things were still just 12 minutes apart not getting any closer so I was getting really frustrated because I thought for sure I'd have the baby that day around midnight I noticed they were starting to get closer together still not you know two minutes apart and I'm about to have the baby but I started keeping a log and I actually kept a log from 1152 until 5:30 9 a.m. so yes I was up again all night long and what I was doing was going back and forth but to the couch and the stove where I was warming up this corn pack thing that I was putting on my back for my back labor amazingly helpful by the way you need heat for back labor I was watching home birth stories I was listening to different birth things basically just convincing myself that this is all okay this is a normal pattern I've never had labor this long so I was basically just prepping my mind all night for kind of what was almost an emotional journey at this point for me but Luke was sleeping I wanted him to sleep I wanted to make sure that he was gonna be fully rested to watch the kids the next day because I was convinced that by the next day we are going to be having the baby I was gonna make sure we had the baby because I was not gonna do three nights in a row with no sleep so I was thinking if the baby doesn't come tomorrow we'll break my water use the breast pump castor oil I don't know but I'm not doing three nights in a row of contractions I noticed that when I was logging my contractions that if I stood up they came five minutes apart if I laid down they came 12 minutes apart and it was consistently like that no matter what I decided that I wanted to wait until the morning to call my midwife just because one thing I don't like about home birth which I love home birth I think it's amazing is that making the call to the Midwife is waking somebody up on a sleep going to the hospital somebody's always there you can just check in it's not like you're waking me up the nurses were already on you know their shift anyway but I hate waking someone up in the middle of the night and thinking am I really in labor is this really happening so I decided to just lay on the couch all night so that they would keep coming 12 minutes apart and that they wouldn't get any closer together and then all of a sudden you know maybe pushing in the Midwife not be there so I just basically laid on the couch all night watching birth stories going back and forth every time my corn pack got cold and that was my night I texted my midwife at 6 a.m. pretty much on the dot because I was like I'm gonna let her sleep till 6 a.m. then I'm calling her and she said okay I'll come right now and she's an hour away so I didn't want to make labor increase until I knew she was like fully on her way she arrived at 7:10 and so we went upstairs because was downstairs she checked you know my blood pressure and the baby's heartbeat and all those kind of vitals and she checked me for dilation which I've never done in a home birth I've never had any reason to it's always like the Midwife gets there and then in 30 minutes I have the baby so she checked me and said I was a six possibly a seven which sounds sort of discouraging knowing that I'd been in labor for like 48 hours at this point or maybe not 40 36 hours but I was actually pretty happy about it because none of the labor at this point had been intense I needed to relax fully through every contraction and it was definitely something that was happening they were strong all of that but it wasn't like this unbearable I can't believe I'm still in labor except for the just annoyed factor of it I was happy that those contractions were doing something but they still weren't doing what my other Labor's did and I asked her is this a positioning thing because I don't understand why it's not progressing and she said it almost definitely is a positioning thing so after she did all those vitals and all that kind of stuff she got me back in the mile circuit and this was really helpful for me because I was kind of doing the mile circuit based off of how I saw the positionings on the website but I couldn't really see myself to see if I was doing them correctly so it was really reassuring for me to have an experienced Midwife who's done the mile circuit tons of times see and make sure and she was kind of telling me like you need to move your legs back a little bit more you know she had me in the perfect position this was now the hardest part of my labor so up till now getting to basically a seven I wouldn't call any part of it painful just something you needed to relax through this next part because I couldn't do my normal Bradley method I was in which basically is your butt way high in the air your chest on the bed and I said to her can I at least go down during contractions and she said no you cannot you have to stay in this position the entire time I was about ready to cry when she told me that because laying in that position and not being able to like relax your body because that position is by nature very uncomfortable made each contraction excruciating so after the first position of the mile circuit which you do for 30 minutes she rolled me into the second position because you're supposed to go straight from position 1 to position 2 and the purpose is that the first position gives the baby room to move their head the whole pregnancy she's been telling me that his face was facing the wrong way and that there was a hand by the face well this first position of the mile circuit opens up that bottom area so that the baby can move their head into the proper position which they apparently know how to do they just need the space to do it and that's the purpose of this after you give them 30 minutes to do that then you roll straight over into this very exaggerated side lay onto your left side which is the way you want the baby's head to go so she based it on which way he was facing and then which way she wanted him to rotate I rolled over into that second position and within I'd say five minutes or less I felt the urge to push so we are talking that I was a six she put me in the mile circuit and within 30 minutes 35 minutes I was pushing she had left the room after putting me in the second position and just you know they usually leave you alone which is good so you can relax five minutes after she left the room I was I yelled hey I really feel like I'm pushing and so I got on my hands and knees and the Midwife that's been taking care of me this whole pregnancy she said she'd go to the bathroom really quick time just for the other Midwife to watch me and but time she came back out of the bathroom the head was already out he was born so quickly his positioning was perfect so the mild circuit in my opinion in hers did everything to basically make the labor go from stalled out to extremely fast and done and she said before she put me in the mile circuit that we're going to reposition him which he didn't say him because we didn't know the gender and then we'll have a fast baby and I was like I sure hope you're right and she was so right after we finally got everything figured out it was really an amazing birth it just needed a little bit of tweaking which I've never experienced all my babies just followed the same pattern I start labor the contractions get closer and then I pushed the baby out I never had this stalled out never getting closer and needing the position to change kind of thing but this is kind of just one of those I love midwives type of moments because instead of waiting until the baby took 24 more hours and then I had to push out you know a baby that was in the wrong position we addressed the issue and then the baby was born in the perfect position so it was really such a neat experience for me and I'm really glad to have learned something new he was born 7 pounds 11 ounces 21 inches long he was a full pound lighter than Micha which was really surprising to me but then he had my fourth child's head size which was 14 inches which was quite large but even though we had that his birth was not difficult and I do attribute that to the positioning that we ended up getting with the mile circuit it's definitely a different story for you than my last one still a wonderful birth I'm so thankful how everything went the recovery has been great he's four days old now I've pretty much been sitting in this bed ever since the Midwife told me that the more kids you have the longer you need to chill out sit in bed and rest because things can take a while to go back into place and cause problems later if you don't let everything heal so this is where I'm gonna stay I can't really go up and down the stairs a whole lot but she did allow me one time per day so I will be doing that some his middle name is Luke's grandpa who's passed aways full name Teddy Paul now we did the same thing with Micah we named Micah after Luke's other grandpa so his name is Micah Bobby gene and Luke really loved that and so we decided to do it again his first name Daniel we've been studying Daniel in our Sunday school and one day Luke looked over and he was like what about Daniel and so we added it to the list now it took us three full days to decide on his name we had been debating between a few others and just yesterday so day three he said let's go with Daniel so his name is Daniel Teddy Paul alright well I hope you enjoyed this little birth story and getting to meet our newest little addition we're sure happy to share him and so thankful that everything went great well if you're brand new to my channel
