McLaren 765LT v Porsche 911 Turbo S: DRAG RACE

hi how are you matt watson here from car wow so i'm sat in a mclaren 765 lt next to me is a porsche 911 turbo s and we're gonna have a drag race they might think these cars aren't evenly matched but that car is an absolute beast off the line this is a beast but can it get off the line well that's what we're going to find out let me tell you about this car anyway so it has a four litre twin turbo v8 that puts out 765 horsepower as the name suggests it also develops 800 newton meters of torque it's the light car as well it only weighs just over 1.3 tons now it's rear wheel drive only and that power is sent to the rear wheels via 7-speed automatic gearbox with launch control it's rather expensive this mclaren starts at 280 000 pounds porsche less expensive that thing starts at just 156 000 pounds for that you get a 3.8 liter twin turbo flat six that puts out 650 horsepower and 800 newton meters of torque it's got an eight-speed automatic gearbox with launch control dual clutches and four-wheel drive so that'll help it off the line obviously it is heavier than this car it weighs over 1.6 tons what's going to happen let's find out from someone who might have some insight of how could have another go if you want but is there any point i don't know let's see look at this guy just enjoying it knowing 100 he's going to win okay coming in basically i want to see if i can beat it by even more oh [Music] i mean the way that thing takes off is amazing the way this thing comes past is even more amazing i'm not going to lie you had a great reaction there to the launch and that car just hooked but it's just not absolutely nuts didn't it do you know what i'm not a mclaren fan but that car looks great and it's so so fast so then what exactly happened well the mclaren one completing the standing quarter mile in 10 seconds flat while the porsche took 10.2 seconds all right now we go over rolling grace from 50 miles an hour with the cars in there least sporty setting and automatic mode for the gearbox i'm going to count it in three two one go god he's got the drag race he took off first but now he's getting destroyed oh it looks so good this is the half mile this thing is just nuts isn't it i mean to be fair it's like almost twice the price of that car so that does a real good job when you think about it i remember when we used to race these and they'd eat everything and now all of a sudden everyone's caught up it's right in it but that's much more usable every day and like i say it's about half the price of this what is that 765 300 280 starting starting all right this time we're gonna have a rolling race once again from 50 miles an hour though now we're going to be in the sportiest settings and manual mode so i'm going to call it in three two one go blimey the boost on this is just nuts oh [Music] crap here comes the half mile this is nuts right on boost like in third at 15. it just absolutely rockets off what have you driven forget rimac stuff what's quicker than that that you've driven here what's quicker than the rim at um nothing the rimac is the quickest car now if you want to see my drag race with the quickest car i've ever break test from 100 miles an hour when we reach the line full emergency stop which car will stop in the shortest distance technically it should be this by no porsches brakes are amazing here comes the line come on my current mclaren yeah you won that great breaks i'm a bit disappointed but man this car is insane don't you think it's a great car it's a great all-around car and the doors go up so it completes it in my eyes yeah you do like doors that go up like that don't you you are you enjoying that is that getting here all excited is it oh i might get my wallet out now it's like a bird nice nice job now i've found a car that's got enough performance for the road it's fun to drive it's obviously a lot less expensive than these through cairo if you want to see what the car is what choices Crazy that the only engine even remotely similar to the Porsche engine is a 2004 Subaru Outback engine.
