hello and welcome to promise grace ministries on pastor dave Geisler thank you for taking the time to watch this video I want to speak about Matthew chapter 7 verses 21 through 23 so let's see if you have your Bible let's go to scripture take a read and take a look at a couple things that Jesus is speaking about in that area of Scripture starts off in verse 21 it says not everyone who says to me Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but the one who does the will of my father who is in heaven on that day many will say to me Lord Lord did we not prophesy in your name cast out demons in your name and do many mighty works in your name and then will I declare to them I never knew you depart from me workers of lawlessness what is the will of the father that Jesus is trying to get through in that portion of Scripture and how can we know that we know that we know that we know him I think there are many things that we can see that are similar to many people in the modern-day Church well they knew his name was Jesus in fact when they preached or prophesied and they did their mighty works they always did it in Jesus name we see that many times in the church matter of fact that's become a very common ending to any prayer that is prayed that I'm not saying that that is the wrong thing to do I'm just drawing up some similarities that we see here he also says that it is many that will say to him in that day now that word many means many and it's a very worrisome word to me because I think that there are many who are naming the name of Jesus that may fit right into this I know I did for a long time even preaching and teaching many things and yet I would have fit right into this so what is the will of God what is the work of God that Jesus is trying to get through here because he says in verse 21 not everyone who says to me Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but the one who does the will of my father who is in heaven now many people will put your back under the works and say that see that shows that you have to work you have to do the work of God but see these people were doing the work of God in fact Jesus never disputed with them he never said no no no you weren't doing the work of God you are lying here by all recollections they're telling the truth they didn't mighty works in his name so what is the will of God that Jesus is trying to get through and what can we understand from this area of scripture that can help us in our walk of faith take your Bibles and let's go to John chapter 6 verse 29 here the Jews are asking him well what do we have to do to do the work of our Father I think it's something similar to what most people want to know what is the work that God requires me to do verse chapter 6 in the book of John and verse 29 reads jesus answered them this is the work of God now there is no better person to tell us what the work of God is other than Jesus he says this is the work of God that you believe in him whom he has sent speaking of himself that is your work now John he goes on a little bit longer in John chapter 14 to say who are his and who are not his matter-of-fact these verses I'm going to give you have been used to trap many people into a life of work work work work work because they have not looked at the full line of Scripture so we're gonna look at all of this today won't take us long hopefully John 14 verses 15 16 and 17 it says if you love me you will keep my Commandments period now the end of that sentence now many people will say see if you don't love Jesus you don't keep his Commandments but if you love them you have to keep those Commandments because they think his Commandments and they'll pick and choose most of the time which Commandments they want to keep it's usually the ones that they're good at keeping but they'll say yeah see it says right there that you have to keep my Commandments now this is prior to salvation we can know that by the next verse he says and I will ask the Father and He will give you another helper to be with you forever that helper is the Holy Spirit even the Spirit of Truth whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him you know him for he dwells with you and will be in you so he's saying well what are John or what is John trying to tell us that Jesus's Commandments are if you love him now now let's use scripture to establish what the other scriptures mean that way it's not the word of the end but the Word of God put a first John all the way towards the end here in chapter 3 and verses 23 and 24 he says and this is his commandment did we not just see it was what is his Commandments if you love me you'll keep my Commandments and now John is saying and this is his commandment all right that we believe in the name of his son Jesus Christ stop right there now what is he saying just waste just what Jesus told the Jews the work of the Father is that you believe in whom he him whom he sent her trust whom he has sent and then he goes on to state and love one another just as he's commanded us whoever keeps his Commandments no we just saw the two Commandments err abides in God and God in him and by this we know that he abides in us by the Spirit whom He has given us so the question I had asked was are the people in John's or Matthew 7 are they saved or are they not safe well it's pretty clear that they are not saved why don't we step back to there and we can look at what he says to them John 7 again go back over to 21 through 23 not everyone who says to me Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but the one who does the will my father who is in heaven on that day many will say to me Lord Lord did we not prophesy in your name which is to preach in his name but to cast out demons in your name and to do many mighty works in your name then I will declare to them I never knew you now here's the part depart from me so no they were not saved and why were they not saved he makes that very clear just before he says depart from me he says I never knew you see salvation has become so much more about a system of doctrines and steps and four steps to this and seven steps to that but really eternal life is belief and I'll show you that in John 17 verse 3 Jesus is asking what is eternal life and he says and this is eternal life that they may know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent all of the works that we will do and everything else comes from that knowing of who he is and knowing who we are in him but that complete gospel is without that all we are is having a mix of a little bit of Jesus and still a little bit of law it's like trusting we trust Jesus and Jesus is the boat but stepping one foot on the dock and one foot on the boat still wanting to do the mighty works that we have to do so we can be good enough for God and yet still doing them in Jesus name that's not trust in Jesus trusting Jesus is to throw ourselves in the arms of Jesus is to depart from anything that we know is good within us and that goes for justification being are we just before God and our sanctification once we realize that there is nothing goodness that it has to all come from him then he gets all the glory and honor and we get to be with him forever really heaven is a relationship an eternal relationship with Jesus forever so it's not a matter of doing right and wrong but it's a matter of knowing him and loving him and growing in this grace day by day thank you for watching this video if you have any questions or thoughts feel free to place
