hello in this video i'm going to be answering a question i received from a viewer i have not read this question yet so this will be pretty exciting let's see if i can answer it and if you have any advice for this person please leave a comment in the comment section below okay i'm going to pull it up here the person's name is martin i believe that's how it's pronounced it might be martine it's spelled a little differently the subject is a friendly question hi i hope you are fine i like a lot your content on youtube and i want to ask something to you i am 30 and i have decided to study math on my own this is for pleasure and for my professional objectives on computer science i studied communication social science so i don't do math for almost 13 years i hope you have a nice day and sorry for my english smiley face it's okay i understand what you're trying to say so i think what martin is trying to ask is how to get started if they're trying to learn mathematics for themselves and for computer science so my advice would be to just get tons of books okay so get as many math books as you can get as cheaply as you can get them and if you want to focus on a specific area since you do want to go into computer science i think discrete math is typically the math that you know computer science people take when they're studying a computer science degree so that's a pretty good option there's lots of decent discrete math books the one by rosin is okay the one by grimaldi is also okay the one by app epp i believe i spelled her last name correctly susanna epp i think that's probably the best one and i say that's the best one because it's the easiest to read i think it's much easier to read than the books by grimaldi and rosin so you can get the book by app probably for a few dollars on the internet i know i paid less than ten dollars for my copy and i think that's a really good book it starts with logic and it's it has logic gates and in the first sections and stuff so it's really fun you can like learn it and you can understand it and i think it'll help also it'll help your english because you're reading the book you know i learned english by playing video games so uh dragon warrior one for nintendo right that's that's old school but i learned by playing games and stuff and also reading that's how i learned english so reading a math book is probably a better way to improve your english than playing a video game right so you're doing better than me martin um i think it's really cool that you're going back to math after 13 years yeah i'd say get the ep book and then maybe pick up a couple other books on discrete math the one by balakrishnan is also good but a little bit harder again the susanna app book is a nice gentle introduction so yeah get as many books as you can and jump back into it and see what you think see what you like and explore i think it's great you're getting back into it if anyone has any advice for martin please leave a comment in the comment section below i hope this video has been helpful good luck
