Mastodon's tour guitars

hi there my name is Bill Keller I play in a band called Mastodon today we're talking about guitars that that we use and this right here is a guitar from 1982 is the e to Gibson Explorer and it's just one of the more beautiful guitars that I know that this one is for the drop tunings tuned down to a it's got a great finish I don't know if I really want to bring on the road too much more get it banged up you know it's pretty good condition I got it I got it from a collector I think it's from San Francisco like a ebay kind of thing but turned out he played in this prog rock band he was a fan exchanged emails and Bob Loblaw got it from now I absolutely love it place brave what else I put classic 57s in it which are your standard Gibson pickups which I the ones that were in it weren't quite hot enough for me I don't know if these are original or not but a little speed speed knob tuners yeah help out turn off the volume whatever and yeah great guitar it's like a like a big heavy giant piece of wood and then we even bonded this darling piece that when I played it I got up in Seattle just at the end of the summer best playing guitar I think I've ever played is that the action is just amazing it's like butter like practically plays itself this is a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom which all my Les Paul's that I own are customs and it's just a big heavy solid piece of resonating wood is a lace pickup that's a fairly new to my collections and nitro Hemi it's very very hot cuts through very well let's see you can kind of see my get my name in there sort of let's see what else it's in pretty good shape for a you know 1977 it's like one of my main guitars when you played in D standard and it's uh I don't know absolutely loved it you know I've only been playing a couple months foot comes out every night for sure this is Bret play guitar from Mastodon and this is my Kevin Burke electrical guitar company guitar that my buddy Kevin made for me that I've dreamed up and I didn't think it was possible but he made it happen that it comes out every night I was using it through the most for the for the whole entire set and then I was getting the naeli guitar circuit Java sorry I had to imagine start rotating but definitely play this every night and it's a little bit of a temperamental guitar because there's no wood involved and it has a lot of you know Plexiglas and aluminum so our blue side actually rather than uh and also play lace pickups and this is a home this is a Kevin Burke ahem well 14 own neck pickup here but I usually have it on this back guy right here this lace that I switch to recently I really like these guys um and uh so yeah let's put an eyeball up here you notice for shits and giggles this was Halloween time and this is all this guitar here's my other guitar that I play this is my main guitar then I'll tell you why because it plays so good it's a 1983 Gibson SG back in that early age they made a wider it's wider from here to here it's wider than your normal s G's which is which is cool we know it's kind of different than your other of season.this this guitar really honestly plays like a motor and it stays in tune very well this one's really temper mineral about tuning because of the what it's made out of and the natural elements and if it's cold or hot or outside or sunny or something you don't have to be on this thing a lot and because of the maestro you know it has to rolling as the rolling saddle as well so you got to keep it lubed up pretty good when you're when you're working with this guy well this is never here man I threw a mg classic up in there just because I hadn't had a dirt out of sticky finger in our dirty Tanner Gibson in there before I just kind of set a little muddy so I wanted a little brighter tone so I put that in there I bought it in a bar in Pittsburgh on tour with Baroness for $1,200 from some guy that was telling me that I used to belong to the keyboard player for the guess who no sugar get tonight in my coffee no sugar tonight I'm gonna show you tonight in my coffee shoe tonight come along with me really crazy song but you know they're quite popular for my little my favorite bands when I was a kid was to guess who I just really liked up to to UM you know American walnut all this stuff you know so um yeah that's pretty much it I mean this guy is gonna get played a lot like up if I could we have three or four tunings and uh so I have to change you know so I'll play this guy for the the see I play this guy for the D and then I play a custom v silver verse which i think is the only one the world that gives them custom made me for the a drop a set of macedon Joe been nice talking with you guys have a nice day
