it's kind of a typical view of our property very thick it was cut over probably about 60 years ago I've got imagery going all the way back to the 80s and it looked like it was in regeneration in the 80s and so very thick a lot of heavy undergrowth a lot of Hickory a lot of uh Oak regeneration so very thick underbrush and a little bit of more mature Timber but not a lot of mature Timber and so this is what it looked like when we bought it and then this is what we've hacked out since we got it this is our little Park it's kind of neat to own your own little Park um so I'm kind of doing a 300 hour review on our Massey Ferguson 1835 M tractor this tractor was our family tractor that we decided to get in order to hack our way into this property it's been a real Workhorse done a good job for us and I thought I'd share with folks the things that I've learned about this rig and the work that we've been able to do with it it's kind of wet and rainy here this morning so can we get really get out and do a lot of the stuff that I had planned to do today so I thought well everybody else makes tractor reviews I can too so first things first uh it's the 2020 model this is a 35 horsepower Massey Ferguson 1835 m the m model is their uh AGCO Massey Brands a little more upscale and I'm going to tell you the things that I've torn up in 300 hours and I'll also give you a couple tips on things that I think they could do to make this tractor spectacular tractor's already awesome and as you can tell from our Campground and the barn that we're starting to build we've done a lot of work with it but I thought you might like to hear some of the things that I've torn up in some of the things that I think could make this tractor more than spectacular we chose the hydrostatic transmission for ease of use by the whole family it's got three operating ranges and with four wheel drive this puts more than enough power to the ground for our needs we had the fuel filters and both hydraulic transmission filters and the hydraulic fluid changed at around 250 hours at a nearby dealership we've had zero problems with the transmission or the four-wheel drive it just works we had the tractor equipped with a third function on the front end loader for a grapple and we used the grapple all the time we've had no problems at all with the grapple on the third function the only minor issue we had is relieving the hydraulic pressure on the lines after taking the grapple off and then trying to put it back on sometimes I forget to relieve the pressure with the tractor shut off I use a small piece of soft Pine and lightly tapped the end of the metal fittings to relieve the pressure and then I can reconnect them we uh if we had to nitpick a complaint with the loader operation it would just be that the maybe the lower loader joystick is a little too tall maybe if the joystick was an inch or two shorter it might be more comfortable but again that's nitpicking we also had the tractor equipped with a set of rear hydraulic remotes to run our hydraulic wood splitter this setup makes firewood splitting easy now this is where I think the engineers could make a modern modification to improve the ease of use specifically for hydraulic wood splitters the tractor's set up with the rear remote lever in the cockpit you know lever is spring-loaded for lifting or moving Implement cylinders on the rear but with a hydraulic wood splitter the cylinder control was on the Implement so to make the setup work we have to put a bungee cord on the lever at the cockpit to operate the lever at the splitter if there was a box off or a stop limit just like on the three-point hitch lift control that would be a great little addition foreign we've had a lot of practice splitting wood and figured out this setup seems to be most efficient with the engine at around 1800 RPMs now it gives us plenty of splitting power without revving the engine too high and wasting fuel [Music] here is something else that I've bent while loading or unloading stuff off the trailer the road rail is kind of a critical piece is because in order to get the hood up under service the air filter oil whatnot you need to have this Hood clear the rub Rail and you can see right here you need just a little bit of clearance if you bend that you're not going to have the clearance to get your hood open to service your air filter and other whatnots and that's the price I pay for not being more careful now these are the guards for the front steering and they're not real substantial and I can't tell you how many times I've had to bend these things back into shape again I'm running over brush our head been running over brush fairly often and so that material is just not real thick but thick enough to keep it protected it did get bent some and you can see I've been to the top link is another piece that I think could be better but I'm not an engineer so I don't know how but you'll see this stop nut on the top link um when you're doing work like with sump grinder or even bush hogging I can never get this just using this little welded on piece of material I can never get it tight enough and so anytime I was doing anything that's vibrating this top length nut always comes loose so I have to carry around my handy dandy crescent wrench and I use it to tighten my um stop nut on the top link once I've got my Implement adjusted right all right this is one of the items that is a little bit frustrating the guards or armor that's around the blinkers is just it's a little thin and so this material gets bent back you can see where I broke off this light before and one of the things that could make this tractor spectacular is if there was a disconnect that would let you take off the blinkers with just an electrical disconnect you can see down inside there's not any way to quickly disconnect this and if you had if AGCO had a quick disconnect right here so you could take these lights off because I don't know of a brush row or fence row anywhere that doesn't have limbs on it and for some reason these guards are right at and the blinkers are right at limb height and I'm working in a woodland setting a lot of a lot of Limbs and the guard material it just isn't strong enough to take take up to the abuse I bent this one back into shape sort of but you can see that the material is just not thick enough to hold up to being bent so the solution would be either putting on much much thicker material here for this guard or just create a quick disconnect right there at the light fixture and then you can take that off and not worry about it getting broken when you're in a woodland setting or you're bush hogging against the fence row that's got a lot of low hanging lamps a little tricked out wiring with distractors that sometimes when you're finished working in four wheel drive you can go into neutral and then lift up on the four-wheel drive here to get it out of four wheel drive but for some reason it'll get a little sticky sometimes and it's almost always because the front tires are in bind so the easy way to fix that is just use your loader put just a little down tension a little down force on the ground come back over here and pop she's out of four-wheel drive so in summary we've had this tractor uh for two years now and we've put through a little over 300 hours on it the things I broke are bent I have bent this right here and I wish I hadn't done that I bent it back with uh um some chains but that's one thing to watch out for if you're by this tractor these little guards right here they're uh I've bent those a couple times and then bent them back then my other complaint on the tractor these right here I wish this material were either thicker or if I just had an easy way to disconnect it and take the whole thing off that would be nice my other little uh complaint after a lot of use is this little welded on piece of material is just not big enough for me to get in this stop nut on the three-point tight enough and so I have to use the crescent wrench to do that the other little complaint and this is you know just like I'm nitpicking here but the rear remote for running the rear remote I wish that that's spring-loaded and so there's no way to uh if you're operating an Implement like a three-point hitch hydraulic wood splitter you have to be able to operate that wood splitter at the back of the tractor and so I need to keep this valve open in order for that to flow and there's just not an easy way to block off if Atco fix that this would be that's it's always the little things right but otherwise man what a what a great tractor we have used the Dickens out of it yeah it's funny to me I see you probably have two people get get a piece of equipment and then they do a review on it after having it for four or five hours and I kind of have to chuckle at those folks a little bit I like to use something before I tell you what I think of it and I can tell you that this has been a good tractor we have no telling how many stumps we've ground out of this place we've used it to pile a brush we use it to build our road coming in here grading all kinds of other things a lot of use very effective tractor and the reason we bought it was the value for the money the value for the money in this tractor was great and so thank you to uh AGCO and Massey Ferguson for putting out a good piece of equipment thanks for watching
