hello my name is mark debra i'm the pastor of the capitol hill baptist church in washington dc and i'm here in my first morning ever in medellin in colombia and i found this christian bookstore uh that boy has and just amazing books in here in translation i don't read spanish though i did have a year of it in eighth grade and but i recognize a lot of the authors a lot of the quotes some good bible studies here from good book company that have been translated some great resources from australia of course excellent books here by tim keller by paul washer um that's a real classic that notice so for example this one by edmond county uh el mysterio revolato uh the unfolding christ in english ed crowley is the first one i ever heard preach christ from the old testament and amazingly gifted he was the president of westminster seminary in philadelphia back in the united states and these are wonderful messages of his where he goes through basic themes about christ in the old testament very helpful for you if you're a new christian to understand the old testament or if you're a pastor who's honestly been a little reluctant to preach the old testament it's a great a great help for that actually it might be the first book i would tell people to use even in english on that topic and then i noticed you've got tron piper's five points so if you want to know more about understanding uh the understanding the grace of god and salvation sinclair ferguson's uh el cristo completo the holy christ uh a wonderful study sinclair ferguson has recently done of faith in christ um rc sprawls books are always clear on the theology of the reformation uh why are so many people roman catholic and they say they're followers of jesus did jesus teach things that are different than the roman catholic church teaches the answers he did and rc scroll is very clear on that and speaking of that if you're a theologian g.i williamson's confession of faith the westminster confession of faith is an excellent study of westminster so this was a assembly called by the british government in the 1640s to redo the statement of faith with the church of england the anglicans and they ended up after going through some of the 39 articles and starting a whole new confession of faith and they produced one of the most widely used confession of faiths in the world and it's a great study of that confession here so i encourage you to look at that what else what other goodies do we have here listen there's one right over by where you're standing i just want to know maybe the most important of all these i've said this uh study bible of the reformation reformation study bible i've used this in english for years and it'd be one of my six or seven favorite study bibles the notes are comparably brief they're theologically accurate they're pointed so you have the the text of the bible but then you have these notes down here about each verse or many of the verses with why they're theologically significant this is a very good resource i would encourage you to look at that consider that maybe if you're not a pastor but there's a pastor you know and love maybe you get in one of those for birthday uh last thing let's just go over here i can't help but notice you have a bunch of of nine marks books these are useful titles they come out of a number of authors who work with the ministry i'm part of nine marks of jonathan lehmann one of our most basic volumes on church membership and then church discipline these two kind of go together uh bobby jamison on sound doctrine uh bible court is a healthy church when people are wondering well how do i find a good church what do i look for this would help you with that a short thing kind of like clowney's unfolding christ in the old testament nick romark and robert klein have done a quick summary of biblical theology mesmerically i can lead two pastors one in scotland one in america have done one on planting a church in difficult communities so if you're in a hard area for the gospel this book might be good to provoke you to think and pray about something to be good to think and pray about david one of the best books in this series on expeditionary preaching by helping you know how to handle god's word well uh jeremy rennie uh he's a pastor in dubai or in abu dhabi and i'm in boston he's now in florida he's one of the elders of the church uh andy johnson on missions this is superb uh i remember when a good friend of mine david platt was was head of the international mission board i was asking him to write forward to this and he said well i get sent books on missions all the time i said david just read the first chapter then give me a call he read the first chapter and he said okay i'll write an intro for this it's a superb book on missions ray orton on the gospel very sweet you know ray's work he loves the lord it just comes out of everything he says i belong to cycling i'm just arguing here that it's the group it's the job brother of every christian to help other people follow jesus and that doesn't stop once people are evangelized they need to be encouraged to follow the lord and that's what this is a book about and then max styles and evangelism again one of the best ones along with david's in this series matt shows how evangelism is really the work of a whole church uh not just a single evangelist or the pastor friends there are so many good books here look there are bible studies like juan sanchez on first peter there's just so many good resources you have here i hope you're able to
