[Music] hi guys yeah good morning uh before we get into our study in mark chapter 14 i want to take a moment with you to pray for afghanistan as many of you are aware it would seem virtually impossible not to be aware of the suffering and the oppression that is going on right now among the afghani people generally but the afghani church one of the fastest growing churches in the world is being persecuted in an intense way as you could imagine presently along with the iranian church the persecuted church generally now comprises almost 350 million people on the planet and i think at the moment there is nowhere like it is being oppressed as it is in afghanistan so let's pray father we thank you that you are good we thank you that you've proven your love at the cross lord we know it is not your fault we know that you allow things like this to accomplish a good and perfect will and yet we pray for our brothers and sisters who are being oppressed in afghanistan we pray for the persecuted church specifically we pray for americans who are serving there who have served there who are struggling to find an escape from their father we just pray that you would sovereignly intervene we pray for your protection we pray that you would strengthen the faith of those who are serving those who are struggling those who are sacrificed and father we pray in all of this that you would continue to keep them on our hearts in our minds and in our prayers in jesus name amen amen and now if you would mark chapter 14 where we're going to talk about the subject of passionate worship this morning as you contemplate the idea of worship worship is more than just singing songs of praise to god yes that is a fantastic way to experience worship but worship is much more than singing songs and praise worship is a lifestyle it is a lifestyle that is characterized by adoration devotion and honor worship is a lifestyle characterized by adoration devotion and honor god is seeking worshipers god never separates the experience of worship from the individual worshiping he is seeking worshipers who will worship in spirit and in truth to worship in spirit means that our response of a lifestyle of worship is prompted by god's spirit more than simply our emotions to worship in truth means that we are seeking to understand and to yield to the words and the works of jesus now there's only three responses that are characterized in this universe to jesus it is either the attitude of adoration and passionate worship or it's an attitude of apathy or indifference or it's an attitude of anger towards jesus and as we look at the anointing of jesus by mary the sister of martha and lazarus she is a poster child for passionate worship if you wanted to find an example in the scriptures of someone who seemingly understood what it meant to be a true worshiper of jesus it would be mary she is an example for us but she is also in effect a mirror that is held up that we can consider what is going on in our own lives and we can wrestle with god's spirit it is easy for us as we are gathered here to assume that we are of the adoration group and lord willing we are but we might be of the apathetic it's even possible to be here of the angry and yet god in his grace is calling us to become worshipers who would be characterized by adoration of jesus worshiping in spirit and in truth that we would be true worshipers of jesus we're in mark chapter 14 i'm going to read the first 11 verses and ask you to follow along silently after two days it was the passover and the feast of unleavened bread and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by trickery and put him to death but they said not during the feast lest there be an uproar of the people and being in bethany at the house of simon the leper as he sat at the table a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikener and she broke the flask and poured it on his head but there were some who were indignant among themselves and they said why was this fragrant oil wasted for it might have been sold for more than 300 denarii and given to the poor and they criticized her sharply verse 6. but jesus said let her alone why do you trouble her she has done a good work for me for you have the poor with you always and whenever you wish you may do them good but me you do not have always she has done what she could she has beforehand prepared my body for burial assuredly i say to you whenever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her and judas is scared one of the twelve went to the chief priest to betray him to them and when they heard it they were glad and they promised to give him money so he sought how he might conveniently betray him let's pray father we ask that you would move in our hearts today that you would help us to respond to your great love for us with great love for you that we would leave this place reconciled to be true worshipers of the true and living god and we ask this now in jesus name amen so you're taking notes the subject we're talking about is mary's anointing of jesus mary's anointing of jesus and really the object that i think god intends for us today is that we would be true worshipers of jesus we would be true worshipers of jesus so first let's consider the attitude of anger and really what we're considering is why are people angry at jesus i could understand why people might be angry at some of jesus followers and in some instances we have to confess we have given those outside of the church the big c church some reason to be upset with some of the things we say or do but why are people angry at jesus and the first group that we're going to see are the religious leaders and the religious leaders are angry because jesus poses a threat to their power to their position and to their lifestyle jesus poses a threat to the power to the position and to the lifestyle so beginning at verse one we see after two days it was the passover and the feast of unleavened bread we are now two days before the cross two days before the passover and then the feast of unleavened bread the passover is described in exodus chapter 12 leviticus chapter 23 it is god's deliverance of his people israel from their bondage as slaves in egypt through the visiting of the ten plagues the tenth plague the slaying of the firstborn god said to jews and non-jews alike if you will take the blood of the lamb and place it on your doorpost i will pass over and none shall be slain and it is through that deliverance that god then brings forth the jewish people through the wilderness to the promised land the feast of unleavened bread that immediately follows the passover for seven days the jews would commemorate god's deliverance by not partaking of any leaven leaven is yeast and yeast is a picture of sin in the bible because it permeates it spreads and that picture of leaven god was saying to the jewish people as they came out of egypt you are now a holy people set apart to me to understand your identity in me and you will not partake of any leaven because now you are a holy people set apart so these two feasts would be celebrated as one feast in the spring and as jews would come from all over the roman empire as they would come from all over israel to jerusalem the city would swell and there would be this sense of anticipation that this could be the year that messiah would come and deliver his people and the religious leaders now as jesus had entered into jerusalem and people were crying out throngs multitudes of people hosanna saved now recognizing jesus messiah as he entered into the city the religious leader's response rather than recognizing jesus is that they sought to kill him and they wanted to do it after the passover so that the crowds would not be pro-jesus opposed to the religious leaders and it would cause an uproar among the multitude and yet jesus will be crucified will be slain on the passover just as foretold he is the lamb of god who takes away the sin of the world and that lamb of god that sacrificial lamb that passover lamb will be slain on that day to deliver us so why are the religious leaders so angry at jesus and this anger you may recall started all the way back in the third chapter of this gospel very early in jesus ministry in the first year he went into the synagogue and there was a man with a paralyzed hand and on the sabbath jesus healed him and we read in mark chapter 3 at verse 6 from that moment forward the religious leaders are looking for an opportune time to kill him now why jesus threatens their authority their position he threatens their power they were jealous of him because of his popular people marvel that is teaching because he taught with authority and i can just say when you wrote the book it is easy to teach with authority but he never had to wonder did god mean this or did god mean that he just said this is what god means he uniquely understood the revelation of god and he called humanity to submit to that revelation and he threatens lifestyle people are angry at jesus because he threatens their lifestyle he's the one who claims that no one can come to the father except through him that is a pretty exclusive comment it's also intended to be inclusive that he is the way the truth in life and all can come to the father through him and that statement what he declares about god that some people might be upset because it comes in conflict with their worldview it comes in conflict with their cultural view and so jesus can't just be this cool guy who goes around wearing a daisy chain necklace flashing peace signs like he seems like a cool guy in his levi's and his birkenstocks i yeah i'd invite the guy out for coffee when you contemplate the claims of jesus he is commanding us to make a decision as c.s lewis said he is actually what he claims to be lord the messiah or he's a lunatic and a horrible man and that's how jesus compels us to wrestle and the problem isn't that jesus is wrong about his claims his claims threaten the lifestyle of those who don't want to submit to the true and living god so they're angry second expression of anger we see from judas and jews expression is in regard to unmet expectations and unbelief unmet expectations and unbelief so at verse 10 after after these things after again jesus is talking about his burial at verse 8 it is after these things that judas then agrees to betray jesus to the religious leaders in matthew chapter 27 he had argued over the price that he was going to be paid for delivering jesus and agreed upon the term of 30 pieces of silver just as it had been foretold and in luke chapter 22 his job is to deliver jesus in a way that it won't upset the crowd and why does he do this it's a question of unmet expectations it isn't about the money yes judas is a sellout but it's not about the money it's about unmet expectations remember when the disciples are arguing on multiple occasions on the road going to jerusalem about which one of them is going to be the greatest this is just an amazing thing jesus is saying you know we're going to jerusalem and i'm going to be crucified hey what are you guys talking about us who us we were talking about oh yes you were what were you talking about well you know we were arguing about which one of us is going to be the greatest who's going to sit at your right hand who's going to sit in your left hand the positions of power and others who's going to be the vice president who's going to be the secretary of state when you establish your kingdom because that's why we're going to jerusalem right and you know when's the argument judas when you look at john chapter 13 and you contemplate the scene in the upper room at the passover and john wonders hey who's he talking about who's gonna betray him and and peter then asked jesus and jesus says it's the guy i passed the food to and who does he pass the food to judas and so where is judas sing at jesus right hand the place of honor judas has this expectation when they enter into jerusalem four days before the cross that jesus is going to overthrow rome and he's going to establish an earthly kingdom get rid of the oppressors and he's going to have a place of prominence and position and power and now jesus keeps talking about his death and his burial rather than getting rid of rome establishing this new kingdom and here's going to be the government and here's our org chart and here's you judas and here's peter and john and jesus keeps talking about his burial and his death that he's going to rise on the third day and his unmet expectations rather than judas looking through the filter that everything that jesus said had been foretold by the prophets jesus is simply fulfilling prophecy and he is the messiah and therefore i need to submit to him and follow his will because he is lord it's jesus don't you know what you're doing you've got it all wrong this is what you should be doing and it is so easy for us to look at judas and rightfully so it's bad judas but think how easy it is in our culture for someone to want to begin to follow jesus and they have this expectation kind of like jesus is this genie in the bottle that heal my spouse of this disease take care of my job take care of this issue for my child and when god doesn't come through the way that we want him to come through and our expectations collide with his lordship that we can betray him that it reveals our unbelief that it becomes a matter not of who jesus is but we hear people say something like i tried jesus and it didn't work for me like it's like some meal plan or something i gave him 30 days i didn't lose 8 pounds and 2 inches and forget jesus i'm going back to unmet expectations that really just reveal unbelief rather than a life that is yielded to him because of who he is what he does what he did at the cross and what he's going to do in regard to the events that we have looked at for the last two weeks concerning the rapture of the church the great tribulation and his second coming where he will in fact establish his kingdom just as was anticipated and so as you're contemplating this attitude of anger i'm optimistic that the great majority of folks in the room today aren't in that camp right now hallelujah some of you who are watching right now my encouragement to you as well is to consider whether unmet expectations to consider the issue of unbelief to consider whether jesus is posing a threat to your position to your sense of power to a sense of lifestyle and whether at its essence it's a response of anger and as you contemplate that we we move from the attitude of anger to the attitude of adoration the attitude of adoration and here we're starting to see the characteristics of true worship so we're told in verse 3 that we're at the home of simon the leper so it is john who tells us in the 12th chapter that this was the simon who was going to be the father of lazarus also his sisters are mary and martha and we get introduced to this family in luke chapter 11 john chapter 11 john chapter 12. so it was about two weeks before this incident when jesus raises lazarus from the dead and so part of the reason for this feast is gratitude for salvation and the restoration of life here was lazarus in the tomb jesus waited over three days and the reason for that is the rabbis of the time of christ said yes that a miracle could restore life within three days but after three days it was impossible so jesus in an effort to prove once and for all that he is messiah he has all power over life and death he is the resurrection and the life waits until the fourth day so when he shows up the mourners who are gathered there around lazarus he's going where's he buried and they're like you don't want to go there and i love the king james translation on this he stinketh it's like the body is already decomposing like you just don't want to see and so it is in this restoration of lazarus life it's not a resurrection it's not a new resurrected body he's restored his life but not only that simon the leper for him to be able to hold the feast that john describes in the 12th chapter that simon had to be healed of his leprosy leprosy is an incurable disease it highly infectious and alienates people from a community in a community of faith and he would not have been able to hold this feast and jesus and the disciples would not have been able to attend this beast because they would have been ceremonially unclean it was only two days before the passover and wouldn't be able to participate in the passover unless simon had been miraculously healed of his leprosy by jesus now i would say if you've been miraculously restored from a death sentence and you've seen life restored of your son you want to celebrate in gratitude amen and that should be anybody here who has been saved from the penalty of your sin we should worship god because we are grateful that he has saved us and he has given us restored life with values that are set right side up that the values of the culture no longer dominate our thinking that our flesh no longer dominates how we live that we have been restored in life and given salvation and that is one reason why we gather to worship jesus here today amen second a second characteristic of this worship is a passion to learn from jesus a passion to learn from jesus so when mary is described through the scripture we see her constantly sitting at the feet of jesus she is at his feet in luke chapter 10 she will be at his feet in john chapter 11. she is at his feet in john chapter 12. and sitting at his feet was was not simply a description of the the room set up it is a picture of worship being a disciple when the apostle paul describes his experience in jerusalem and learning from his rabbi gamalio he says in the 22nd chapter of acts that he sat at his feet it is a picture of one who is being discipled one who is seeking to learn from a mentor or a master that here we see mary constantly pictured at the feet of jesus he is seeking to learn from jesus he is seeking to learn of jesus in the instant described by luke in the 10th chapter we see this feast being held at the home of simon's house and there is mary's sister martha and martha is busy presumably she's cooking she's cleaning she's making sure the guest towels are out that the restroom's been clean all the things that we would do to make it special because jesus is coming over like like you want to go the extra mile because like you you get the devil's food cake out of the fridge right and so she's just going to all this trouble and she comes out of the kitchen and she sees her sister sitting at the beat of jesus and and she's upset about this and she says lord tell my sister to to get up and help me now i just want to encourage you whenever you're bossing jesus around it's wrong all right the hutzbah jesus do your job and tell her to do her job i was like whoa and so jesus said whoa whoa whoa says mary you are distracted or martha you're distracted mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken away from her now i just want you to see this with me sometimes in the church we think that there needs to be this dichotomy you're either of team mary or you're a team martha and it's it's not like that at all both are good the the issue isn't serving is a great expression of worship but our service to god should flow from our experience of being with god of learning of god learning from god and then we are seeking to imitate who jesus is by serving god by serving others so it's not that you're supposed to well i'm just married i just sit at jesus feet and i never lift a hand to help that's not the right attitude either similarly like i'm just busy busy busy busy busy serve and serve and serve and now i'm all burned out so instead of like mary or martha we want to have like a hybrid like marsha marsha marsha okay so first we have gratitude for salvation and restoration of life second we are seeking to sit at jesus feet and to learn of him learn from him third selfless sacrifice selfless sacrifice so in verse three mark describes it this way says a woman comes to jesus with this alabaster flask john makes it clear that it's mary and in this alabaster fight alabaster is a soft stone and so it could be easily polished and shaped there is as john describes that one pound and a roman pound is 12 ounces 12 ounces of this perfumed oil oil of spikenard and so it's this musky oil and it is very expensive we see at verse 3. and then verse 5 just to give a hint as to the value it's described as being worth more than 300 denarii now a denarius is a worker's wage for a day's worth of work so 300 denarii is about three-quarters of an annual worker's salary a worker's annual salary for a typical worker so even if there was some hyperbole you know in this this is valuable stuff and so presumably mary is saving this for her wedding day and once she breaks open that alabaster flask at verse three this is not like you pull out the cork stopper and take a little dab and put a cross on jesus forehead and put the stopper back and put that thing back on the shelf once that alabaster flask is broken all the contents are poured out it is selfless it is sacrificial presumably jesus is explaining to her what is going to happen to him in the coming days his death his burial his resurrection and mary is so moved by this that jesus doesn't prompt her doesn't ask her to do anything she voluntarily is moved to pour out the soil and as she pours out this oil mark and matthew focus that she pours it out upon jesus head and you imagine 12 ounces of oil is just flowing it's down his beard it is down his hair it's on his garment she takes part of the soil as john describes it and places it on jesus feet and begins to wipe his feet with her hair this incredibly intimate expression of adoration of devotion of worship john describes it that the whole room is filled with the fragrance of this perfumed oil and the same aroma that is on jesus is on mary she has the same aroma of jesus upon her it is this beautiful picture and then at verse 4 there's objection and mary is undaunted in her worship now i want you to see this with me king david is a classic example of a worshiper in the old testament and so david when he was king and the ark was being restored to jerusalem it's being transported to jerusalem as this procession is coming forward david removes his priestly robes so he can dance before the lord dave david is just so passionate that he doesn't care what anybody else thinks he takes off the royal garments and so all he's got on now we're told in second samuel chapter 6 is a linen ephod the linden ephod doesn't get many people in our culture thinking what's the big deal he's in his underwear yes the fruit of the spirit in the fruit of the loom and david is just worshiping god and his wife looks out the window and sees the king dancing before the ark of god and she berates him she says oh didn't the king look dignified today dancing like a common person wearing his undergarments and david shoots back i was dancing before the lord and him and him alone and then he says this and i will be even more undignified as i humble myself before my lord david understood that when we are so concerned about looking good looking right looking under control that we can't worship the lord that isn't selfless because we're focused on self real worship is selfless similarly it's sacrificial towards the end of david's life when he purchased a plot of land at mount zion to build an altar to worship god and the owner of this land said david i'll give you the land you're the king i'll give you the implements to build the altar i'll give you wood for the fire i'll give you animals for the sacrifice have it all you're the king and david says in ii samuel 24 24 how can i worship god with something that cost me nothing real worship always involves a sacrifice it costs us something and mary's worship was selfless and sacrificial a fourth characteristic of real worship is that it ministers to god it ministers to god look at verse six jesus immediately comes to mary's defense he said whoa stop this what she's done is a good work for me the word that we translate as good at verse six is the greek word kalos if you have the name kayla that is a derivative of this that means pure lovely good what mary did for jesus was pure lovely good she was preparing his body for burial at verse 8. she was seeking to minister to jesus first and foremost what she did her expression of service her expression of giving her expression of adoration her expression of humility all of it was intended to bless jesus in acts chapter 13 we see that the early church at antioch has gathered these people are praying they are seeking to learn doctrine they're seeking to worship god in song they are fasting they're saying no to the flesh to say yes to god and then acts chapter 13 and verse 2 it's described this way they ministered to the lord what they did was certainly something that benefited them they walked away feeling encouraged feeling empowered feeling the presence of god it added value to their lives yes but first and foremost they gathered to minister to god real worship is always seeking to minister to god fifth it's remembered by god it's remembered by god so at verse 9 jesus said wherever this gospel is proclaimed what this woman has done will be a testimony to her and here we are 2 000 plus years later 2000 years later and it is a testimony to mary hasn't been forgotten but more importantly than it not being forgotten to us it hasn't been forgotten to god every time that we are seeking to worship god with lives that are characterized by devotion adoration and yielded to god he remembers doesn't forget any of it it ministers to him and he remembers these are the characteristics of a life of adoration it's gratitude for salvation restored life it is life that seeks to learn from jesus and listen to him it is a life that is characterized by selfless sacrifice it is a life that seeks to minister to him and is the life that is remembered by him amen so we've seen anger we've seen adoration and now let's consider the attitude of apathy indifference towards god so mark describes in verse 4 that somebody said hey why this waste we could have sold this oil and we could have given it to the poor and we'd have over 300 denarii to give to the poor doesn't that sound spiritual it sounds super spiritual and so the one who tells us this as mark describes it is someone said but as you look at matthew's account it's the disciples and then as you look at john's account it was judas and judas didn't care about the poor at all matter of fact jesus just wanted to sell the oil and then embezzle the funds we're told so jesus makes a statement that sounds really super spiritual mary bad we should have sold it given to the poor good and everybody in the room is like yeah that sounds good now i want you to consider this with me is worship a waste now think about this jesus said why this waste and everybody yeah why this waste and you're gonna have to wrestle with this question in your life any time if you give your life your time your talent your treasure your life to god people outside the community of faith are not going to understand before i started in pastoral ministry i was practicing law had a very comfortable lifestyle my brother was alarmed at the thought that i was going to leave the practice of law to engage in pastoral ministry here in camarillo and well what about josh and johnny in other words my brother was concerned about our sons presumably he was concerned about karen may have been a little concerned about me but i knew my place in the pecking order in other words why are you doing this why are you leaving something that offers comfort that offers a certain lifestyle to serve god and no matter what you do as a worshiper to be a true worshiper you're going to have to give of yourself you're going to have to pour out yourself it is going to cost your time it is going to cost you treasure it is going to cost your talents because if you're going to be selfless and you're going to sacrifice there's going to be a price to pay and you're going to have to wrestle with the question was this a waste i am convinced that mary never looked back and thought oh that was a waste here it's my wedding day i don't have that oil of spikenard why did i ever give it to jesus i am convinced that is the furthest thought that ever crept into her mind as a matter of fact i would suggest even further that any true worshiper doesn't wrestle with that question long and it's okay to wrestle with the question i remember that uh after coming here and calvary chapel camarillo now calvary nexus was started and a few years into it i remember visiting a friend of ours who was blessed to have a very large beautiful home and walked into the foyer of this home and it was the foyer the entryway was larger than my whole home and i remember thinking the spot went into my head like i could have had this and it was almost as if god spoke to me in an audible voice and said bruce if that's what you want you can have it now it's not that having a large home is wrong or anything but that was the last time i wrestled with the idea of whether any of this was a waste and each of us is going to have to wrestle with that thought is worship a waste when worship seems like it is a waste when our sense of comfort in other words to come here and gather where for the greater part of a year starting in the midst of restrictions in march we learned to worship in the comfort of our couch with slippers and a comforter even not only the holy spirit as the comforter we had a comforter wrapped around us and it was good it's like hey i'm just going to pause them go down the hall and i'll come back and hit play you can't do that here you want to but but you understand that there are some of you who who can't gather right now because of a risk i understand there's some of you who choose not to gather because it's more comfortable and the thought of sacrificing even this small sacrifice is too big a sacrifice and you've concluded that that's a waste real worshipers never perceive that honoring god in any way is a waste amen but here's another thought to consider is worship influenced by others is worship influenced by others now here i'm going to ask you to stay with me on this as just for a moment as i develop this okay so john says or excuse me john records that it is judas who says hey we could have sold this for over 300 denarii i given it to the poor and then as matthew records it the other disciples do this like yeah that's right this is a waste now here's what's going on john makes this indictment and everybody else all the other disciples join in on this it was completely far away from jesus heart from the heart of god that's why he comes to mary's defense and corrects them but see what's going on judas who has influence is influencing now the others to come to the conclusion that honoring jesus was a waste now here's what i want you to see with me here is something that you may not recognize at first blush all true worshipers of god recognize that they have a responsibility towards god they have a responsibility towards others that their response either positively impacts others or negatively impacts others and they choose to respond in a way that honors god in an effort to stir others to honor god now here's the the tricky thing we live in a culture where the right of the individual is exalted over the right of the community recognize with me now i appreciate that there are differing views in the room regarding the vaccine recognize with me that it hasn't received authorization in terms of a cdc authorization it's presently an emergency use it hasn't been approved yet and so they're going to be people with differing views for a host of different reasons some of them are going to be political reasons some of them are going to be medical reasons some are going to be social reasons some influenced by misinformation a host of different reasons and so i want to make it really clear as a community of faith we need to love and respect and be humble and gentle with those who have a differing view than our own okay okay that's first one okay [Applause] but here's what i want to say as you're navigating this and you're coming up with your own decision i've talked with countless people about this and so the person who says that i'm not comfortable or i'm not sure it's safe or i don't want to do this or trying to infringe my rights i get all that i'm not judging anybody all i'm asking you to do is to consider this as you filter this decision does any part of that process cover this sphere what is my responsibility to my community in other words if you go through all of that and the question what is my responsibility as a follower of jesus to my community of faith in the community that i inhabit and then you come to the conclusion not now or whatever the conclusion might be okay because then you're filtering it through i'm a part of a community and a responsibility to a community if your only level of contemplation in this is me my rights and your perception of you as an individual then you're missing what it means to be a worshiper and i'm not talking about simply vaccines or masks what i'm talking about is worship understands you are a thermostat you are not merely a thermometer a thermometer tells the temperature you are influencing the temperature of others and as soon as you decide that you're not responsible for what other people do am i my brother's keeper that you're not responsible for the worship of a community that you don't have to participate in a group because it's inconvenient for you you're missing what it means to be a worshiper of the true and living god you and i influence others and if our primary analysis on that responsibility is my right my freedom my comfort then you don't understand what it means to be a follower of jesus yes you get to think about your rights your freedom your comfort praise god for the country that we live in but your right is not the pinnacle of what it means to be a follower of jesus his right is what is the pinnacle and what he says and what he does as an example is what we are called to follow and jesus never says my rights this is inconvenient for me what about me this is always laying down his actual rights so that others come into relationship with god and that's where that fine rub between adoration and apathy holds a mirror up to each and every one of us it's so easy to look and say yeah i adore jesus do we look at how we interact not only with god but with others we've got to love god supremely love others as we love ourselves if we're going to be true worshipers amen let's pray father i pray for anyone here today who hasn't yet come to know you as lord and savior i pray father that they would recognize your love your goodness the true satisfaction that flows from a life of worshiping you i pray father for each of us as we process by your spirit that you will reveal to us areas in our life that aren't yielded to you that have been characterized by selfishness rather than selflessness father that we would recognize our responsibility to one another as a community of faith and first and foremost our responsibility to honor you cause us to be true worshipers of the true and living god and we ask this now in jesus name amen god bless you guys [Music] you
