Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story | PART 1

and here we are and yup it's working welcome everybody as i was just saying this is mario and luigi bowser's inside story the third game in the mario luigi series we recently went through the first two and that was a lot of fun i ended up playing some other games for a bit and now i finally want to play this so like i've said before chat back in the day i only really played the first and third one partners in time was like a new thing for me and i've never played the 3ds ones we're going to continue our little playthrough through the whole series i guess with this one i've been looking forward to this a lot here we go i arguably did my first ever challenge run when i was young on this game by just only doing mandatory fights because i remember being very difficult but now i couldn't even tell you half the bosses in this game let's get comfy and let's do it oh yeah best toe town theme tow town let me turn up the volume [Music] this theme is great okay yeah this game's from 2009 mom home oh hang on is it is it require the other screens this game switches screens a lot i came prepared for this hang on oh there we go [Music] mom i'm home well hi there sweetie home early today huh there's also parts where you got to hold the ds on the side i also prepped for that too miss ingletoe just wouldn't stop talking blah blah blah so i snuck out and came home you naughty little scamp you'll never grow up into a fine toad with such bad behavior fine mom whatever so is dinner ready yet yes dear it is but call your dad before we eat okay kid just ditched school like it's nothing dad dinner's ready [Music] dad eek i wish that i could just like hotkey switching the screens to the controller or something but i can't do that what is it dear [Music] it's dad he's good golly no honey the blorbs seems so random doesn't it mushroom kingdom mard by mystery malady i almost said milady i i've been on the internet too long the blorps it comes without warning first you balloon to blimp size then wrote the rolling you roll away oh the horror of the blorbs as a press time the cause and cure are unknown day by day the number of blorp's toads swells seen how great the situation is princess peach convenes an emergency meeting at the castle oh how absolutely wretched such a thing has never happened in the history of the kingdom soon the entire mushroom kingdom will get the blorbs we've got to find the cause and get this place back to normal yeah obviously you never dealt with something like this i have absolutely no idea what to do i suggest we panic pull yourself together man we've got to do something oh is that the blue toad from partners in time i think it is my son he he's also he's also got the blurbs princess we still await yes we've sent word to the star sprites for help but we've got no response pardon me ah glorious i dare say our star sprite has arrived sorry i'm late this castle's huge toad bert comes back but stuff well apparently doesn't princess this thing is what nice to meet you i'm starlo peach sent word of trouble to the mushroom kingdom so as a representative of the star sprites here i am in the mushroom kingdom hello yellow mercy such pep such ferv such unswerving confidence so you'll be able to simply cure the blorbs then correct oh uh well this is even beyond the power of a star sprite well i did some research on similar afflictions but the blorbs is in a class of its own it seems to be incurable if we could just find a cause we'd have a place to start medical staff did what we could to ease the swelling and as far as we can tell we can't reverse the effects doc's got to do something this is a national emergency thanks for the news flash obviously we want to help who's that over there dr toady's intern dr toadley he's a really famous doctor he knows everything he couldn't make it to today's meeting so his intern is here hmm well i have many patients so you have to excuse me the toads look a little bit more better animated than the last game i want to understand though partners in time was apparently its development was kind of like in a weird situation where they had to like use two game boy advances to kind of like program on that because the ds wasn't like out or finished yet it's weird last doctors are stumped the star sprite is helpless to whom might we turn look i'm really sorry okay there are some things that even a star sprite can't do i guess we just give up huh how insolent both of you calm down yeah what's wrong with you toadsworth there is someone we can count on by boogity oh quite right hope endures so uh what's up they're not here yet the bros [Music] hey mario hurry hurry here he comes he's trying to get his overalls on he dropped a shoe it's a meeting big meeting you gotta hurry please everyone's waiting mario in the conference hall okay luigi came to super look the conference hall is in the back please hurry oh before you do do you need an action icon but it's a bit better than it was in the last game where it looks like he was going to fall over hey there the conference hall is just up ahead yep everyone's in there i'm sure they're eager to see you of course there are many toads working the grounds here too you want to chat with anyone you know the drill press a you'll probably hear some juicy tidbits or maybe not how's game audio chat let me know if i should turn it up or down but this game's got some great music looking forward to hearing them again [Music] okay no no no no like gossip then get chatting with the folks by pressing a on the blower guy can you that would be mean let's try it nope all right looks like there's not really any useful items i was hoping for like a mushroom to start maybe and the save album is now just a time a wild one my uncle anyway it's okay for luigi hit blocks too that in turn that just passed by here man she was cute that's just peach's thing oh not the conference hall conference halls over there takes them all it doesn't quite look like a paper mario save block but i can see what you think that head into the conference hall meeting already started man that also reminds me i still gotta really play through with super paper mario and thousand-year door i haven't streamed those before ah master mario master luigi we've awaited your arrival let us resume the meeting now then going on with little information we've unearthed the cause may be a mushroom sold by a local merchant oh dear a mushroom you mean to tell me that a mushroom closes that causes the blorbs well yeah we interviewed all the blurb toads we could and they all said they bought bloor but mushrooms you think they would have mentioned that a little sooner it's in the name blurb mushrooms perplexing not a local variety of that i'm quite sure what sort of rap scallion would do would sell such a thing well according to one witness it was a fellow in a cape all signs point to the suspect not being from this kingdom well whoever he is he's our only lead so it's decided let's go find him master mario master luigi your hour is at hand go forth and stomp this fellow as if he were bowser did someone just page the king of awesome i would kill my throat if i did grumbly bowser voice the whole game so i'm an outcast huh what i do deserve this what are you doing here we're in an important meeting the kingdom's in danger g pardon me guess what i live here your royal genius i've got as much right to be in this meeting as anyone i mean right help me out here toadsworth back me up that um that's well don't be ridiculous you have no right to be here get out crud oh the chaos i could cause by giving bowser and voice for the whole playthrough mario are you seriously trying to start with me again i hear about this big meeting i'm all ready to act nice but man the second i see your face mr nice bowser's gone yeah forget your dumb meeting i'll pummel you and grab peach we just still sleep oh hang on hang on yeah boop boop boop time to shift chat master mario your first battle in some time shall i refresh you on attacks nah oh but of course not as if toadsworth could teach you about battling three total i must mention one vital bit when you attack with a jump you can stomp your foe twice shall i explain that no i got it i think i just missed the second action command there we go my timing was slightly off master mario the timing feels better than partners in time shall i explain attacks once more for you no very well then no need to repeat myself i'll probably just read the ones for bowser later though oh i missed it okay gotta get used to it master mario when you attack with the jump press the button twice with good timing don't forget i know out of the way ah darn it okay that second jump just gotta get used to i know toad's worth stopping oh this is crucial you can dodge bowser's attack care to hear about attack evasion how about you pay attention i'll show you how it's done very good master mario this gargantuan louch phases you not at all shut up i'll burn you too blabby what now you jump and dodge a foe's attacks as you just did you'll escape damage time your jump well with your foes attack remember this all right he left the battle thank god luigi has a different sleep animation down there that's cute he rolled over his sleeve okay okay i just got to get used to the time into that second hits only did one anyway okay all right the animation yeah yeah looks really smooth now again i like partners in time but i definitely understand that like the devs had some um definitely had like some uh work their work cut out for them making the second game and that definitely affected it a bit okay okay that's how i get the good timing for that weird i felt like i did that one early on purpose and it came out right what happened i'll tell you what happened chat i gotta switch the screens again this game switches screens often and if i put it side by side both would look too small you'll see as this goes on what happened where are my skills that was not my a game no it was not bowser no it was not oh hang on sorry hit the wrong thing i mean i've lost before chill or i'll chill nothing i'm going to peach's castle right now [Music] wait where am i anyway all right and now we're finally playing the real game bowser rpg [Music] your surliness there's a ton of boulders scattered around here use x to shatter them and you can find a way through [Music] punch like how you see the top screen shake or is this the bottom screen your grouchiness [Music] this is a pretty dense forest you ought to be able to use why to burn trees with fire careful though if you breathe flames for too long you get all tuckered out just like smash brothers this game okay this game came out like quite a few years after partners in time right like partners in time was super early for ds and this is 2009. four years after [Music] a winner is you what when what jackpotting your burlings what's going on the customer has luck and with luckiness comes a tasty lucky shroom a lucky shroom i didn't even buy anything what's this about jackpotting do not have worries for details no do not have the worries have the wonderful lucky shroom of tastiness instead scoff this down and your luck will power up to super luck luck enough to beat mario beat mario seriously i say to you yes with every attack lucky hits will shower and happy waterfall you will have such fury your strongest enemies will fold like napkins who are crying you're beefing this dude is weird don't eat that thing seriously what can you hear him it'll help me beat mario duh [Music] you weirdo give me the lucky shroom oh yes of course enjoy the eating you got a lucky question mark's room [Music] earth re-read that to make sure i read it right i have such strategy and now for the leaving you are having a date with peach's castle oh well that's one way to break up a meeting seems like it's pretty much adjourned by boogety should we cancel it young man we're facing a national emergency if we cancel the meeting nothing will get solved absolutely the blobs are more pressing than bowser the meeting must go on mercy you are the princess take heed gentlemen and star that's how one does things but we surely can't use this ravaged room anymore shall we continue someplace a touch last demolished there we go uh oh [Music] uh oh run squeegee run i have victory easy as bread sandwiches and now for the proceeding with the plan i have planned midbus come on waffle calls you of course lord waffle and it switches again okay there we go all right now i'm in a 2d environment chat we're in the lower screen and we're inside bowser's body now what in the name of globin nice to meet you oh strange visitor oh there we go some call me emoglobin the secretish things in the body of bowser i know them all i can impart this knowledge to you if you have the globin and i have emoglobin brethren hit them oh jumpish creature beans struck brother bothers us none for such is the way of the globeline globbin anyway oh traveler about what are you curious the nature of globin the meaning of globin i tell you nothing but i will let you save since your globin remains me reminds me of me the word globin is messing me up sure let's save [Music] by the way oh traveler like all things in come bearing knowledge a strange pipeish thing i see how i long to press down upon you to sink down below or then i might fly skyward or perhaps travel the far places there are many pipe-ish types oh traveler when you find a pipish thing press down remember or forever globin see you globin i did it hi everyone welcome you're just in time i'm inside bowser and i'm just waiting for the story to get started plop mario you saved me watch out here it comes let's go a goombiel whatever mario i was watching that monster attack and noticed something i think you can deal a counter attack to that thing oh gee i wonder what made you notice that oh right you're mario you're an old pro but i better explain the numbers next to this heart mark over here this hp represents your physical health when you take damage from monster this number goes down when your hp hits zero you pass out and can no longer attack when your hp gets low select item from the command blocks okay in this case you have a mushroom your item area restore that needs to be here it comes oh do what too early there whatever it's dead oh yeah i forgot this part you can also run from battle and you want to run away choose flee from command blocks above you don't flee too often though since you tend to drop coins only press a quickly over and over you can replay faster all right [Music] you're free to go thank you so much for saving me mario [Music] i'm pretty sure we're inside bowser's body after bowser inhaled me i woke up and wandered around and then that amoeba thing grabbed me out of the blue i don't know didn't even really understand i'd been inhaled until i realized i might be inside bowser and everyone else is in here somewhere but right now i've got no clue where anyone is yeah definitely inside bowser who knows how in the world that happened but one thing's for sure we don't find the others soon we're all in big trouble yeah you're right we better just press on someone might be nearby luigi shall come back don't worry we will have the green brother assembled some call me hemoglobin with savish qualities i have savish qualities but also disappearing soonish ones want to save your globin globin i should be fine save complete let's go let's take out this lad [Applause] there we go flawless i was hoping for an item drop from but guess not let's go no more save mug shot i guess so not the biggest deal in the world [Applause] you did it mario i'm so proud of you oh syrup jar okay i did get an item i was looking where it was and i realized it was on the other screen already starts out being able to jump super high in this game [Music] didn't expect to land on that lad i think i got the timing down again i remember the timing feeling weird and partners in time compared to superstar saga in here i feel like i'm able to get it pretty naturally some know me as hemoglobin with a kindish heart or i alone soothe the soul and hear the we healed the weary glo globin shall i heal yours no thanks i'm good so you don't want to be healed what a globin oh come on now just a chance to practice my time and i guess [Music] no i don't really play hard mode for first playthroughs of games it usually just sounds like a bad idea oh no come here you you're giving me my coins coins and possible items i like how my lucky damage is the same [Music] three mushroom what's going on why is luigi's head look so cheesy is his skin being digested already hey luigi why are you goofing off up there sorry luigi's just dying what to do mario we gotta help jump up and grab his legs so we can pull him down [Music] come on wake up you're fine [Music] mario jump and stomp them [Music] look at look at that little luigi dance he is ready to be here i like his grapple character stance in the other game too if you stomp a monster as you begin the battle you can deal damage right off the bat this gives you the upper hand use it often you know you guys will need to work together to get far hey by the way luigi you remember how to attack i'm sure you do of course you attack with b mario uses a luigi uses b make sure not to confuse the two okay [Applause] hang on what's the what was that look at that look at that animation he's so freaking excited to be here you gotta love it only one damage on your second attack all right the counter attack kill him nothing to stop me from hitting the other one wait a minute yeah these monsters telegraph their attacks no really starlo oh ah i forgot to mention luigi you also use b when you defend yourself you can use b when you counter attack use items everything use it well [Applause] starlo's just like why do they know this come on let me help who means shaking his booty for a moment starlos a backseater yes they are you yeah that was rude starlo even inside bowser's body there are enemies to fight hey luigi okay have you seen princess peach anywhere hang on there's just a wire down here i gotta move yeah come on now i'm trying to unplug my fan so i can just move the walk the cord i'm scared i'm just gonna like trip on it trip as i'm sitting down but you know what i mean not you either huh looks like she'll be tough to track down [Music] all right good thing i planned ahead and gave you guys access to the star menu oh yeah the star menu lets you tracks all kinds of useful information want to hear about it sure open the star menu by pressing start okay this is the star menu it's just the start menu here you use items you found yeah i should have said no to this change here i'll check out your info in detail this is this song's a jam actually yeah this remix is fire you hear this we need a teddy bear for this you can also take a look at the coins he collected you can even see how many time you spent how much time you've spent adventuring your basic info appears up on the top screen so you can take a look wherever whenever you want it's smart to open the star menu to check every now and then instance luigi did you get dinged up in that last fight or did you just trip either way your health's down he still has more health than mario what the hell is your problem starlo see right here so next you should brush up on using items right hell no you don't need a quick review i'm fine i'll be sure to restore yourself later then okay that's my spiel on the star menu use beer start to close the menu all right we actually believes me this time all right so the map's no longer the top screen i get one there some call me anemoglobin with savish qualities i have savage qualities but also disappear soonish ones stat again that partners in time used items and i didn't like that like at all okay okay don't want that i want to wait for the pow boost to be large okay hp looks good ah i saw a chance and i went for it [Music] let's get them and thus begins a new a new playthrough with bad luck and good luck of rules i don't want to upgrade important stats like pow until i can see a guarantee that'll be huge what up mushrooms at least this intro is actually doing something with its area instead of you know holly jolly village in its whole five seconds of screen time do my globins deceive me oh odd to see a traveler about let alone a pair of them you are fortunate for the paths ahead or on even-ish and better navigated by teamwork you are also fortunate i have wisdom for your globen hear my wisest lecture nah well mind your p's and globins you're just going to teach me how to do this i guarantee it i'm not normally one to skip every tutorial but this game these games kind of have a little too much of them you know what i mean well superstar sagas was pretty if it was pretty fine i'd say there we go we made it wow looks like bowser inhaled all kinds of junk huh let's hope some of it turns out to be stuff we can use maybe in this wooden crate if we could break it open i'm guessing that's just another save globin i'm gonna leave it so i get hammers this early that's cool okay can't go up that way oops [Music] oh it's a respawn point i see trash pet attack pieces you got number one pieces left to find nine i vaguely remember this oh is that an attack piece so bowser swallowed some of those as well hmm you don't know about them attack pieces are fragments that form special attacks if you collect all 10 of the attack pieces you'll be able to use the special attack what's a special attack well i'll tell you later if there's one attack piece here i'm willing to bet that there are others nearby let's find them is this a lasting concept in 3ds games okay i guess i want these for now then they do keep it okay i've never played paper jam or dream team i'm probably going to stream my first time playthrough of it at some point i've been getting through game series a lot more quick lately chat it's been fun we're like already on our fourth zelda game when i said i wanted to play zelda games now we're on our third mario luigi it is kind of slow to match through that yeah get all them stupid [Music] luigi picked it up [Music] and there's the last one they're making me pick them all up so we can give me a tutorial i guess i should probably check recheck this one all trash pieces pit or trap trash pit pieces found you learned a new special attack you got all the attack pieces awesome now you can use a special attack special attacks are powerful offensive battle moves if you get good at using them you'll dominate battles i don't remember how they work in uh this game oh no it's green shell again what that was in this game this was the really basic one partners in time i just don't remember the only special attack i can remember in this game is one i think you just feed luigi a bunch of cakes until he gets really large and mario throws him like a projectile i know that sounds really weird but i i really remember that just that one you can now use green shells huh hey check this out out of this menu you can practice your special attacks you can watch demos too practice and watch all you like you want to watch a quick demo before you try it in battle i probably should because the timing's gonna feel weird all right let me practice it myself right quick i remember that the timing could get really weird for this as it goes on okay that and i'm just not very good at it pretty straightforward there we go yeah having the x and y baby brothers commands was a lot was a lot to deal with for a bit especially the hammer timing anyways perfect timing all right you two give them a taste of that special attack luigi's got a little dance mario luigi now you can use the special attack for him by those attack pieces want me to explain how did we not just go through this oh okay okay i see how it is good luck good luck okay i i feel like i'm breaking starlord's heart here but um take the hints okay good [Applause] green shell time brothers got individual points now you can practice your special attacks or watch demos whenever you want just choose demo from your star menu i know starlo you just told me [Music] yeah all right it's gonna move on this should be what i'm looking for hammer time you got hammers i bet you could break all kinds of things with those hammers first you should switch the action icon with r oh you know we can at least jam just some tutorial box chat then if you press a you'll swing your hammer yeah you just know that'll be useful all over the place try it out oh it's over it's over already all right fine fine no more booping bears oops okay tap the wrong button for a second there it's just confused my controllers just mapped weirdly because of mystery dungeon [Music] uh-oh [Music] mario if you stomp on this thing spikes it'll hurt i think a jumping attack is out of the question instead what you ought to do is use the hammer want to hear how to use it i probably should because it def feels different in the uh games swing them or back and hold the build up powder longer hold it more damage you'll do hold back hammer two last thing again okay first choose hammer here okay so it's just closer to the superstar saga one as you just saw building power is vital for hammer attacks you hold it too long though you'll fail so time it well and of course mario loses a which uses b same as always all right oops way too early i got greedy okay mario sam same deal on defense you can't stop on spike's counter attack can you defend with hammer should i explain now i got it let me just practice the timing already instead of interrupting me every five seconds it's harder to defend with the hammer than it is to jump so be careful can i drop that i'm not sure if i can okay let me practice the timing now one two three four five that flash is very is very slight so i gotta get used to it [Music] oh that pose is great that pose is great i don't remember that it's been so long since i played this game so a lot of this just feels new to me and i love it oh look at that look he's given all right ah whatever i'll take it i want to go for it oh poor luigi baby luigi also had great animation i love the little boogie he does there we go yes we can hop in you know i wonder chat are there any like hacks of like superstar saga and partners in time i wonder if anyone would make like a difficulty hack or like a quality of life thing be cool to revisit them with stuff like that [Music] okay hammer actually does damage on intro now good uh oh i'm not sure if i can drop it oops i was expecting him to hit the ceiling too oh i didn't mean to do that i wasn't thinking okay hitting it too early it still does good damage at least okay there's only small rumble pack hacks for superstar saga and partners in time there's a difficult hack i know of but it's pretty terrible just it just jacks enemy stats and doesn't change their hp thresholds oh [Music] perfect oh nice something i do recall about um partners in time that really stood out to me as it went on is that it seemed like every enemy's telegraph was just like i'm using my left hand i'm using my right hand and that's how you tell what brother what brother it was there we go again i did really enjoy partners in time but like knowing like that that game kind of had like some weird development going on i do understand okay let's go i think like everybody else yeah it would have been cool to see that one get the remake treatment but i've not played any of the other 3ds remakes anyway so i wouldn't know okay oh there is a hard mode hack for partners in time okay that hammer comes out real fast [Music] okay let's start with you that's right come on oh wrong thing i keep expecting like a cursor memory from mario for some reason i don't think the last game did that so i don't know why i'd expect that syrup jars looks like we finally made it out of that messed up area hmm we may be able to access some other areas of bowser's body the circles represent places we could probably reach just follow the paths to get to where you want to go move with the d-pad of course or you can just touch the circle you want access to what if there's a place we could get ready what lies ahead toad square challenge node that's cute mr mario mr luigi [Music] you guys also got inhaled dude that's kind of a relief you guys in here we might actually have a shot what all the others i think all the toads bowser inhaled are gathered here are doing what they can you know scavenging stuff from inside bowser opening shops problem is this isn't exactly a high traffic shopping zone everyone's got pretty antsy sitting around doing nothing opening up these shops was a nice diversion you know so come on you guys give us a lift and buy something will ya me i'm gonna go scout around see if i can't find some more useful stuff all right we're in toad square now hey mr mario nice seeing you pretty freaked out at first landing in this creepy place but we'll all find a way out of here just i'm sure of it speaking of which i got all these items i gathered for you so how about you buy a few man imagine buying and eating a mushroom that's just like dipped in like bowser's like bile or something there's not i don't really need to buy anything rather save up for badges and stuff so in case you couldn't tell about how this game switches screens constantly because mario and luigi are inside bowser they're on the bottom screen and playing as bowser will be on the top screen is that is that underwear back there hey mr mario nice seeing you i'm patting myself on the back right now because i figured you guys got inhaled too that's why i gathered a bunch of supplies for you so smart sorry you have to charge for it you know how it is costa costa labor and such buy uh socks 50 target booster makes fos more likely to attack you i don't see the benefit of putting that on i i don't see a benefit in putting that on picnic wear no special effect all right [Music] will it even give me a buff okay plus 10 i guess guys will put it on equip now now what about this oh it uh lowers my defense wait it takes it it takes the place of the of the pants do the mario brothers just take off their overalls and walk around with these socks oh that's a scary thought no wonder they no wonder they want to target them no wonder the enemies are going to go at you jeez okay bye [Music] you can either wear pants or socks not both exit shop okay no go here you we got here what what is that ah mr mario welcome you and mr luigi both got inhaled by a bowser too huh i'm relieved actually you in here i don't feel so scared isn't this over here hey uh but listen have you seen these things called hemoglobins living inside bowser's body globins sorry they're all kinds they're all a little weird to be honest but get this the one behind me sweats and it doesn't sweat sweat it sweats juice sounds gross i know but drink it and your energy wells up and it full and restores your condition it's an acquired taste ten coins for two button and it will just read a microphone input so that should be fine would inhaling the chest give me what i want for blitty i don't know oh wow it actually worked yeah games that require specific volumes though those are those are like freaking impossible to play okay let's just light it up yeah it's running away at least i got the blitty from that i'm gonna have to keep a mental note of what i'm uh gotten what i've gotten haven't hang on it's in such a rush because the enemies are faster than me then i get a chance to actually set it up properly [Music] well i checked it with the mic test menu and um let's go here and the hotkey sets it to the max volume level yeah there we go let me uh let me move for crying out loud there you go trying to fix this but the ds microphone just reads like different levels and it reads those different levels as like an input which is weird like it doesn't have like a very sensitive thing to detect how much you're blowing into it it's kind of just it's like the wiimote shake where like it just reads the shake as like a button input and not quite as like a actual motion control like you think it is or at least that's how like a lot of wii games would use it early motion controls were kind of just a lie oh do i want to inhale this i think i do there we go [Music] all right all blinny's found in dimble woods i'll have to backtrack to the beach in the cape later though i got the yeah i got the warp point for that when the time comes though so it's not a big deal i only have to go to the beach all right worry about it later all right is there a boss up ahead because it looks like this would be a good point to stop but if there's a boss i can do that first let me just get a drink here chat it is very cute music there's some plot up ahead hours so i'm gonna i'm having a blast chat this is fun only issue is of course you know um yeah i think i progressed pretty well the stream only issue is like yeah going into bowser's inside story i knew that there was going to be some ds shenanigans that uh with the way i'm playing the game i'm gonna have to account for it we haven't we haven't even gotten to the kaiju battles yet where you have to hold the ds sideways but i have a i have a setup for that and hopefully the microphone should work fine if not i'm gonna have to think i'm gonna have to just text support it live but that's all
