this is the Cobo mantis one of the most sought-after and highest rated scooters in the world and for good reason not only is it juiced to the gills but it also has better portability than nearly any other extreme scooter and does it all at a price starting at just over $1500 making it one of if not the best value in the game this is Chuck with electric scooter guide the leading source for electric scooter reviews please support our channel by sharing subscribing and if you like this video give it a thumbs up this comprehensive review will cover price performance Rainiers ride report portability including a trunk test how to lock up the scooter ride quality build quality including a drop test safety features customer service overall pros and cons and who should buy this beast of a scooter and who needs something else let's dig in we will be covering both flavors of this scooter the extremely capable 17.5 amp hour base model and the more punchy 24.5 amp our pro version both scooters weigh 65 pounds the base model comes with a smaller generic battery pack while the pro ups the ante with a larger and more expensive LG branded battery the base model has semi hydraulic brakes while the pro gives you the full hydraulic experience the pro also has a mini motors display and throttle unit while the base model has a standard variety display we will be comparing both versions of the Mantis along with the similarly priced 23 amp power version of the zero 10x as well as the more expensive and much larger cabo wolf warrior finally on a semantic note we didn't know how to refer to multiple Mantis scooters so we ran a poll in our community Facebook group to answer this question should it be Manti or mantises and the community decided on Manti so from now on we will refer to two or more Mantis scooters as Manti while we like to focus our reviews on the scooters themselves price is a big factor for most buyers so it makes sense to cover it as you can see the Manti start around $1,600 and top out just over 2,000 and at $1600 retail the bass Mantis is one of the least expensive extreme scooters out there remember to check the video details for our latest coupon code for this scooter and the comparison scooters make no mistake the Mantis is an extreme scooter with powerful performance it not only accelerates like a rocket but is nimble enough to rip around corners and leave nearly every other scooter out there in the dust acceleration on both the base and pro models are insane from 0 to 15 miles per hour the pro version of the Mantis has the third fastest recorded time for any scooter we've tested of just two seconds flat this actually beats standout scooter such as the dual Tron thunder and the X and is just 1/10 of a second behind the $3,000 wolf warrior members of our team have described the acceleration as super fun and a little dangerous going to 20 then 25 30 and finally past the 35 miles per hour is a hair-raising experience especially if you've never ridden anything this fast the pro version can reach 30 miles per hour in under 6 seconds with the base model getting there in 7.7 seconds overall the base model mantis is very competitive with the 52 volt 23 amp power 0:10 X while the pro model blows both of them away the wolf warrior is nearly the same off the line as the lighter Mantis Pro but then has much more mid and top end power reaching 20 miles per hour a bit faster and not letting up from there both Manti top out at just over 37 miles our although the display will read just over 40 the zero 10x that we tested topped out at 36 point one miles per hour very close to the Mantis while the wolf is in another league as it can get close to 50 remember to check your local scooter laws about speed and make sure when going fast to wear a full-face helmet and full protective gear when subjecting the Manti to our 10% grade Hill Climb both scooters performed very well the pro had the third fastest time we've ever recorded getting up the 200 feet from a standstill mind you in 7.9 seconds it was still accelerating at the 200-foot mark reaching just over 25 miles per hour at the top the wolf had a slightly faster time up the hill and the 23 amp hour 10 X beat the base model mantis by 0.4 seconds all that power burns electrons and some scooters will not go the distance lucky for us the Manti have stamina with every setting for maximum power and in dual motor mode we achieved 33 point seven miles of range on the Mantis Pro and 29 point one miles of range on the base model our range tests are conducted by a 165-pound rider in a semi urban test loop with lots of starts and stops four percent grade uphills and downhills and a fair amount of rough pavement average speed on the range test varies by scooter but is between 17.5 miles per hour on the base model mantis 219 miles per hour on the pro if you are going off-roading expect your range to decrease significantly speed is all well and good until you need to emergency stop so we also test braking performance both Manti come well equipped with dual disc brakes the base version has semi hydraulic brakes while the pro has fully hydraulic we test the brakes of all scooters in a simulated emergency stop from 15 miles per hour on flat ground all scooters in the comparison group had great stopping distances of 12 feet or less if you'd like to compare the performance of these scooters against any of the nearly 40 scooters we've tested check out the performance page on our website Oh Chuck is gone my time everyone this is ray my electric scooter guy and welcome to Ray Mears rival report and I'm here to give my take on the Mantis being a heavier rider and by heavier rider I mean someone that's over 220 pounds 100 kilograms and above and let me say this bigger small anyone can ride a scooter but the performance and ride quality may differ and I'm here to say that Manti stacks up the masses is rated 264 pounds max writer write and me being 235 pounds matches up to Chuck's 165 pound Rider stats acceleration snaps your neck back top speed amazing I've got up to 36 miles per hour on our test strip probably to get a little bit higher and Hill Climb was great with dual motor and single motor I didn't feel sluggish or the sloth life filling and other scooters when going uphill being a bigger guy this scooter takes you to me what makes the Mantis Pro a special scooter is their why quality going over bumps jumping on the scooter going off curbs felt great braking was up to par some of the best stopping distance - spoons alright any school even going that max speed this has been Ray Mears ride report see you next time normally extreme dual motor beasts are not portable they weigh a ton and are a huge pain in the butt to pick up for loading or going upstairs well your back can thank you later because the Manti come in at 65 pounds each which makes them about as light as extreme dual motor monsters can get especially with this type of performance and range for me there's a big difference between a 65 pounds scooter and the 101 pound wolf warrior one of them I can live without hurting myself and the other typically requires a friend to help me lift it the only mainstream scooter I could find with 2,000 watts of nominal power that is actually lighter than the Mantis is the mer cane an X 60 all other scooters with this much power are 75 pounds or more what's more the stem folds down and actually locks so you can pick up the scooter by the stem there are only a few extreme class scooters out there with this functionality as with most dual clamp stem callers unfolding doesn't take too long but getting the scooter back unfolded and in riding position can take some time as you need to tighten the nut on each clamp in an alternating fashion to get the clamps to the optimum tightened position beyond these two portability features the Manta are not small scooters and the handlebars do not fold in leaving the folded dimensions on par with other scooters in this class with a folded size of 49 inches long by 24 inches wide by 19 inches tall this is very similar in size to the 0 10 X and much much smaller than the wolf warrior this is the ESG trunk test now for a extreme dual motor scooter typically these are extremely heavy and they're very hard to get in the trunk is the one very cool thing about the Mantis it's not that hard to get in the trunk when you're locking up the Mantis the best place I think to lock it up is the neck of the stem right here when it's 30 minutes to Showtime and I realize I forgot a nice shirt to wear for est live the scooter I reach for is the Mantis I can quickly take it down the stairs in my office and blast home in just a few minutes it just rips it is a ton of fun to ride in the dual motor mode and it is extremely nimble making this one of the fastest realistic commuters out there in fact one of the ESG team members entered not the pro but the base model mantis to the Bay East Gate San Francisco cannonball race in 2019 he ended up taking fourth place and beat every other scooter that was not a Ryan the ride quality is superb due to many factors including a spacious twenty point three inch deck and the extremely bouncy adjustable dual spring suspension the large 10 by 2.5 inch pneumatic inner tube tires further enhance the damping effects if you are into off-roading you can grab the optional 3 inch wide off-road tires now available for both the base and pro models the handlebars are curved and all the buttons and switches are conveniently accessible without moving your hands too much which is nice the grips feel plush and a bit spongy so you can grip them hard when you need to without leaving dents in your hands on the right handlebar you'll notice the display a regular one on the base model and the mini motors display for the pro both displays allow you to tweak many settings including initial acceleration ie braking power and activating cruise control when comparing the ride of the Mantis to the 10x I would say that the Mantis has more instant throw your head back type of torque and is much more nimble allowing you to corner faster and in any kind of race the Mantis Pro would win the 10x really shines when it comes to balancing ride quality and fun as the 10x is more stable and holds its line better along with a more gradual acceleration curve but don't worry we have a 10x review coming shortly nearly all extreme scooters only come with the standard trigger style throttle which can lead to finger cramping on long rides and we hope that the industry continues to take cues from the motorcycle market offering thumb and twist grip throttle after the recent upgrades the stem on our Mantis is solid allowing no wobble even though it has a collar style stem lock the dual clamping system on the stem lock really helps to keep everything in place but the recent stem upgrades which we'll go into in the next section are a very welcome addition for a relatively inexpensive scooter you would expect a lot of issues and we've actually had none with either Manti after riding hundreds of miles on each the cable routing is the best I've seen with all cables from the handlebars going directly into the stem and only coming out for a few inches before finding their final destination this type of routing is important for all scooters but more so for those going fast as getting a cable stuck on a passing object could be disastrous the grip of the mat looks amazing and unlike other scooters cabo has done a good job of gluing it down it is also easier to clean than grip tape so you can keep your scoot looking fresh however we don't recommend pouring water when cleaning as the Mantis does not have an official IP rating both versions of the Mantis have a split rim setup with all motor cables coming in on the dis side making tire changes much easier than other configurations a weird little nuance that a lot of scooters get wrong is the kickstand it is either too high or too low it's nice to see that the Mantis got it just right easy to get to and the scooter doesn't lean over too far or stand up too straight the first generation mantis mostly sold in the Philippines has a known issue with the stem bolt where it would loosen over time and possibly break under enough force although there have been no confirmed cases in the United States fluid free ride the distributor in the United States has provided a maintenance upgrade to its customers and of June 2020 all Manti sold by fluid free ride have an upgraded stem connection the only gripe we have is that we would have liked to see a second charging port for faster dual charging and an official water resistance rating this is the ESG drop test drop number one drop number to drop number three you got scrapes but no no no real damage you have cosmetic right you got cosmetic issues the Mantis passes the ESG drop test no problems at all safety is paramount in the electric scooter industry and we look for certain features when analyzing safety brakes on the base model our semi hydraulic and work very well only taking a bit of force the pro model has fully hydraulic brakes that you can use with literally one finger the pneumatic tires are 2.5 inches wide and 10 inches in diameter and do a great job of planting you to the road on turns or in wet weather however if you like to rip around turns we'd recommend taking 10 to 15 psi off of the tires the Manti have button lights on the front and rear as well as white under deck lighting on both sides all lights are activated by a switch on the left side of the handlebars no reaching to the deck to activate them the rear button lights are bright and blink when the brakes are activated but there is no large fender mounted light so we highly recommend you pick up a helmet-mounted rear light if you ride in the dark similarly the front button lights are bright but are mounted at the deck so they do not light up much of the road so you really should pick up a high mounted rechargeable front light you can see all the lights that we use in the video description the deck mounted lights are great for making you more visible at night and you'll be very thankful you have them if you do any serious commuting in the dark finally and inexplicably as is the case with so many extreme scooters there is no horn or bell in our opinion this is an essential safety feature that we would like to see included on the next version of the Mantis again check out our amazon store for the after market model we use we were generously loaned our Manti from julian over at fluid freeride they offer local walk and support as well as email and phone support for online customers fluid free ride is known for their generosity donating 9 electric scooters to the essentials scooters campaign we also appreciate that their founder has shown incredible leadership when dealing with scooter issues such as the Mantis stem rather than hiding behind the problems and letting the manufacturer deal with it when purchasing from another retailer make sure you're getting the latest version of the Mantis overall pros for this scooter include insane price to performance ratios and performance to weight ratios incredible value for one of the fastest scooters out there wonderful build quality including best-in-class cable routing best portability rating for an extreme scooter and finally a rock-solid stem on the latest version cons for this scooter include lack of a horn or bell and you'll need additional lighting for riding at night this scooter is for anyone who simply wants the most kick-ass scooter they can find with a budget of fifteen hundred twenty three hundred dollars it is for someone who like me wants an extreme dual motor scooter but needs to occasionally take the scooter upstairs or fit it into the trunk of a car the Mantis is not for someone who cannot occasionally lift sixty five pounds it is not for someone who thinks they're going to take this into the doctor's office or fit it under a table at a restaurant it's portable but not that portable in fact I wouldn't even recommend you lock this scooter up for too long outside finally it is absolutely not for someone who wants to go fast but doesn't want to wear safety gear this scooter screams and you want to go faster and faster on it so you better be careful and take the necessary precautions the Cabo Mantis base and pro models are my top choice for anyone looking for an extremely fast durable feature-packed and portable electric scooter and riders around the world seem to agree as they gave the Mantis a 4.7 out of 5 overall rating which was the top score for any scooter in its price class I hope you've enjoyed watching this review of the Cabo Mantis if you are interested in learning more about the Cabo Mantis please see our
