A group of Muslims honoring an Islamic holiday verbally threatened by a man passing by the 11:00 news on KTVU. >> Fox two starts now. >> A hateful incident captured on a holy day. Hello again. >> I'm Greg Lee and I'm Julie Julie Haener, a group from a San Francisco mosque was celebrating Eid in the park when a man walked by shouting expletives and making threats. New tonight KTVU Amber Lee joins us now in studio and Amber, there's video of this incident. >> That's right Julie Muslim Americans attending the event tell me they're shocked and saddened that this happened in San Francisco. Organizers say they're sharing the video of the incident to educate people about the Islamic faith. The joy of observing Eid, one of two major holidays in the Muslim faith, is a tradition observed by Bay area Muslims on this Monday with a picnic at McLaren Park in San Francisco's Portola neighborhood. >> Weddings in Bangladesh. It's like we're celebrating together with our family and friends, eating good food, celebrating community and being Muslims in the city. >> But hours earlier, around 830 in the morning, event organizers with the Islamic Center of San Francisco, a mosque, say they were preparing for a prayer service when a man walking his dogs started yelling offensive remarks directed at them against the Muslim faith. >> Say your religion is full of hate. Have a good day. >> We have a permit to be here. >> We contacted the city to have a permit. I think that's horrible what they've done. You can take it up with the city. It's called democracy. >> To me, this video was shot by a mosque member. >> I never really thought I'd come across, you know, something like that. Especially in the city of San Francisco, it's just it's just really, really sad. >> Organizer Shabazz Sheikh says the man made a threat. I'm going to put some pig grease here for you. >> We're forbidden to touch or eat pigs in our religion. And for him to say he was going to come back in that way or, you know, attack us in that way, potentially. That made me uncomfortable and made me scared. I was frightened, I was worried about the safety of others. The 33 year old Muslim American says the mosque holds holiday observances in public parks routinely, and nothing like this has happened before. That level of racist abuse I've never experienced in my life, Sheikh tells me. >> There were about 50 Muslims gathered at the time of the confrontation. He called 911 and gave a copy of the video to a police officer, who arrived to take a report. Sheikh wants the man identified. >> I would invite him to our mosque, you know, if he's interested in learning about our faith or about our culture, I'm more than happy to sit down with him and explain and educate him. >> And if you get to know people from other cultures, religions, you might realize that we're not so different after all. >> Police tell me this is an open and active investigation, but that it's too early to determine if they'll further in
