hey youtube it's art here with you again i am on the country road in south carolina going through some of these little small towns and i'm heading to a small town called laurenberg north carolina it's just across the state line and not far from bennettsville at all but today guess what we're gonna pick some grapes and make some homemade wine i'm going to meet our good friend cleave the rabbit hunter and cleve is going to show us how you make homemade wine i can't wait it's going to be fun country style let's go get it [Music] okay here's o'cleave now got his bucket in hand and he's got his grandson along joshua with him what's going on fellas are we going to find some grapes out here let's go get them let's go get them look at these grapevines look at these great lines it's time to get to picking it looking good look at that right there [Music] you like to try one you got to just try one [Music] right here right here loaded with juice and flavor that is the black one it's the black but it's sweet it's real sweet right let's try one of these black ones they're real sweet one of these here's the black one very sweet totally different flavor from the stuffing over on the other tree really good what we got over here let me look at him and they already packed they're all in there they're all in there that's a different type it's in between the taste of the other two he's right here there's three different types of variety out here they're not all the same check these out right here these black ones are so nice look right here we're here right here look at the black oh [ __ ] check this out oh yeah yeah get in there josh we'll get you some [Music] what's it taste like to you it's sweet you like it look at that there's this look at that how pretty is that he's got the blue ones the black ones and the green ones all are converging right here together [Music] yeah that's nice beautiful joshua get the bucket bring your bucket down drop off right in the bucket eat me up mosquito's getting you huh eat me up by the way we are getting tagged out here by the mosquitoes apparently the mosquitoes love grapes too and they love us right now mosquitoes mosquitoes eat milk you gotta spray in huh let's walk through these cleve um there are three different ones now these are the first ones we were picking those are the scuppenongs right super dogs right here it's just the white that's the whites and then these are those the black ones you said and then the the red ones these are the these are the what's called the red ones the red this is these are feel softer than the other ones too for some reason they didn't quite sweep this off of them you can see the difference you can see all three of them right there i make three i blend two and i treat some separate yeah which one do you think takes the best when you do it oh hard to say honey the black the black black black black makes the best is that really sweet i'll take my sugar foot [Music] great goodness this is nature at its best right here nature at its best if you like country you gotta love this now look at joshua down there hiding he's right there in the middle of it i'm getting way up in here now look what i found look at all those i'm eating as many as i'm picking and putting in the bucket by the way you know i've i've been in the california vineyards that's in napa valley uh and that's great heaven for sure but this is a totally different experience right here country and just as good if not better because of a whole different quality of great beautiful beautiful plenty of grapes i make wine for my sisters my nephew nieces a couple friends myself i don't use that much but it's a family thing everybody when they know it's grape harvesting time they're calling cleave to make wine for the family huh [Music] load him up okay so we've picked what we need now it's time to show them the process so we'll process the house at the house we'll go let's just sell them out there right now you just sell the grips out there interesting a little bit of history there for you selling grapes out of the little bar in here in the backyard all right well these are the supplies we need now a little bit of sugar got my smasher and got some grits you don't need for me to take my shoes off and smash them with my feet do you no sir no sir no there's no need for that that's just only for stuff you see in the greek days on tv huh yes siree so don't worry friends there will be no feet stomping of grapes today make sure to clean next step we'll take them out the bucket and put them into the pan get this out of there get this out of there boy they look really good in this pan i'm going to take all of this junk like this out get that out oh there's good now i'm going to show you how to do what i can do with the map i got to smack them now okay let's get to it there we go watch it hear that sound hear that this song oh yeah this is a lot better than doing it with feet although it might be country style if we did it with feet but it could also be funky style we don't want that i don't want that why you hear your feet man you can you can just smell the freshness coming off those grapes in there [Music] that smasher does a good job [Music] guess what you your dear brother dresses so he's passing home mr jeffy for now what with this bastard right here is that right he definitely did now here's something you need to see this is that scupping on grate and it has a thick hole it's actually so thick that a lot of people don't eat the hole now we'll start with another bed it's it's hard to do this without picking them out as you're doing it and eating them isn't it it's practically impossible because they're right in front of you you just want to eat them i can get 25 out of it oh yeah there's a lot of juice in there but i'll stop my off my little half a cup of grits well hold on let's take a look at that so this is actual grits here nothing special about them but it's great friend of the grits quick rising bridge the red's gone gonna do the rise and they can do the swelling up on them we'll make them rise up make them rise up you don't need to put them with grits you put the grits in it you get no headache grease don't you don't hit it yeah and make better wine people i'll put a little sprinkle of sugar with it that's a little bit that's nice let's get it to work a little bit don't put much i add sugar water to it every week for at least six weeks you'll add sugar and water every week for six weeks and pour a little bit of water a little bit lubrication if i call it a little bit more to work with that's all it needs the the water the sugar the grits the amount that you're using obviously that's going to depend on how big the batch is right what all wines have you made what flavors i know you got a great variety i got uh i made the peach before i got the uh the blueberry which is very popular one blueberry what about strawberries uh yeah i made strawberry with the blueberries you mix the strawberry and the blueberry oh my goodness i'm getting thirsty right now how long does the total process take because obviously you don't make wine in a day usually it takes let's say four to five days a good time some people try to go three weeks and once they ain't got to go on because they're thirsty for it i'm trying to get rid of something trying to say i'm not trying to sell the wine and will you keep it in a cool place or what kind of place will you store it while it's working timber tool for maybe about uh four to five to six of themselves say it been like that it's a good temper to it um sometimes people blow up their batch of wine when it's fermenting and it's sealed too tight what happens when the wine blows up when you get there you gotta leave a l you gotta have an l that's enough for the breed it's got to breathe otherwise it'll build up that pressure and that's what makes it blow up explodes by the way i had some wine blow up on me one time it was just a quart jar but it made a mess boom is right boom it blew up every damn thing where are we going now cleveland i'm going into my shape okay coming into the house of the wine uh this is like the factory in here i love it it's like the factory oh look at that this is plum right here and this has been i wish i wish you could smell that man that smells good [Music] i'm gonna try another one cherry oh my goodness this is cherry let's try it try it [Music] hey hey hey i think you're on to something wow that's good right now very good that's good right now and it's still working that's good right now it's all cherry little cherries and that crushed them up too the the goodness has already worked itself down into here folks does it matter that it goes in a plastic container or glass or glass is better but you if the plasma is more it's easier than to blow up but they'll swell up with a glass and that's going to pop boom yeah you put too much pressure on it what i do i leave the top crack on it keep it still working i don't put the top back because even though you're taking this up it's still working no doubt about that here we go here we go country style get you a cube this is a sampling time huh got a little piece of ice here drop it in there to cool it down now which one are we trying here first let's try the blueberries this is the blueberry okay oh man i love this you need to do anything else to this i don't know what you do to it to make it better drink it that is flat out delicious it's not too strong it's not too sweet that's good that's really good let's try this let's try this this uh first time i would be the cherry okay don't let you pull first this is the one in the barrel in there right that's cherry that's a cherry okay okay let's uh let's give this one a a look see okay this is stronger you get that right away but you don't have that taste to it completely different taste because this is still working i guess this is much stronger than the other one now let's talk about that because people think that this wine is going to blow them away that is going to be too strong for them it's not like that it's not as strong as wine in the store if you ask me but but how do you determine how strong it's going to get up to the peak down it's gonna get right now you don't get no strong okay but you can't weaken it you can take a column out and pass more water but wait break that that ice is in here that cube that ice has has settled with it now and it's uh it's it's it's changed it's gotten even better [Music] well that's pretty good yeah i could work with this so cleve you know i like to always give a little education when we're doing these and i think people have gotten a really good education on on homemade wine making because they saw these grapes out on the vine today and now you saw us put it up and everything like that and you know that's part of the country process isn't it definitely way of life down here not like country style yeah no no way this guy he makes a lot of good stuff cleve people at home may be wondering can they make wine too and they might as well try it and they don't look the grapes don't have to be fresh off the vine you could buy them in a store so it's not it should be a tasty wine it'd be different yeah give it a try if it's something you think you would like doing it could be fun um you might surprise yourself because it's beautiful it's pretty is it and it's good so we're gonna continue to sample these wines because it's important that we have the process right we've got to do this it's not that we want to do it it's part of the process so cleave i want to thank you my friend my friend here's to us how do we do this country style oh yeah hey don't forget to trisolate get your country style t-shirt while they last and they are going fast so hurry and as always subscribe to the channel it sure helps us out see ya
