good evening everyone and welcome to stampin chat live i am gina from gina k designs and i'd like to welcome all of you from all over the country and all over the world joining us tonight here for this live event now if you're watching later if it's not monday night at 7 central time then welcome to the replay tonight we're going to have a little bit of fun i've gotten a lot of comments from a lot of you both on youtube and on instagram asking for me to do something that isn't flowery something that would be a little bit more appropriate for masculine style cards and this got me thinking a little bit about masculine versus feminine and what that really means you know tom and i had a little bit of a conversation about that today in the car right hun yeah and um i was saying you know i i get why flowers are viewed as feminine but i also i mean i look around at my neighbors and i see so many of the guys in my neighborhood are out there working in their gardens and they've got beautiful flowers our old neighbor oh my gosh his his lawn was immaculate and he had beautiful floral baskets all over the place and he took so much pride in those flowers so are flowers really masculine or feminine or can anybody love flowers same thing with other things like i guess we tend to think maybe leaves and trees would be more masculine and flowers would be more feminine but again i love trees i love leaves and i'm a girl so i'm not really sure if there should be such a thing as masculine or feminine but i do get the idea that when we go to the hallmark aisle we see all of the feminine cards are all in pinks and pastels and they've all got floral images on the front and then we look at the masculine cards and it's all fishing and hunting and leaves and trees and more what i guess hallmark has deemed masculine for us so i just wanted to get that out there because i know a lot of people are going to say to me well i why why aren't flowers masculine men like flowers they like the way they smell so um but i picked a couple of stamp sets tonight that i feel you can use for either masculine or feminine cards so um and and they're they're images that i love personally so let me show you first of all let me just do a shout out i have to say happy birthday to melanie menchinger our wonderful illustrator melanie today is her birthday and so i've chosen two stamp sets by melanie to use tonight in our live okay so let me show you the the stamp sets that i'm thinking of using so i'm thinking beautiful birds is a great stamp set for some reason birds seem like they would be okay for masculine cards so i'm going to use this large bird image because it just i think this is amazing and i think it's going to fit with the style card i want to make and then this stamp set is let me see the name here it should be back here yeah there it is i thought i knew it beautiful wings okay so beautiful wings now i was looking at this and i was this is not these are not butterflies um beautiful butterflies is melanie's butterfly set beautiful wings in this set you've you've got dragonflies you've got some moths you've got some greenery so i'm like again i'm wondering are bugs bugs more masculine or are there feminine bugs and masculine bugs this is a debate we had at work today i was like okay so a butterfly is a bug but butterflies are kind of feminine so are like butterflies and dragonflies feminine and then like cockroaches and spiders things that we want the men to squish are they the masculine images so melanie if you're watching i'm gonna need a cockroach stamp set i'm gonna solve any problems here today i know i'm not solving a problem at all but i'm going to use a dragonfly and um there is a ladybug so that's kind of just by nature of the word ladybug i'm gonna assume that's a that's a lady lady image i'm gonna use a bird and i'm gonna use a dragonfly but feel free to substitute um lighthouses and um you know if you've got a fishing stamp or you have maybe something like an ocean like a seagull sitting on a log something like that so you can you can definitely uh you can definitely use something like that i know why are ladybugs always ladies they can't be we keep getting more ladybugs there's gotta be boy ladybugs dude bugs all right so let's get let's get into the technique that i want to talk about so um i stopped at goodwill on my way home and i picked up a couple of books here and these were like a dollar a book i didn't know which books to get i just grabbed the first three books that looked like they were masculine themed i even got a thesaurus [Laughter] it's not that the source is not necessarily masculine but i liked how small the print was in the book so i thought this might be a good one to use for this technique but like river thunder doesn't that sound like a masculine book and like oh cowboy look there's a cowboy on the cover of this book i don't know though i'm a little bit apprehensive about this book um this one seems much more masculine you know it looks like a guy falling off a raft going so i figured whatever's in this book is gonna work but good old-fashioned cowboy i don't know i think what you have to do is you have to um you have to uh pick you know pick a page and then you kind of have to read the page and make sure that um you know whatever you're gonna pick will work and there isn't like anything maybe bad words or anything like that in the book so okay so let me read a little bit of this and make sure it's going to be okay all right a man stood in the doorway of the store very tall very broad almost filling it wore jeans with a faded dark blue t-shirt boots and a black cowboy hat thick short black glossy hair spilled out like ink in his eyes the color of a new minted silver coin they stood out in his handsome tan face so bright couldn't miss him couldn't forget either those hands and couldn't forget those hard beautifully all right you know what we're gonna use the thesaurus okay we're gone with the spores for this i can't use that but um i'm glad i bought it i'll use that later okay ladies gentlemen we're going to use the thesaurus tonight [Laughter] i know lisa it it doesn't matter it's a romance novel so they're they're not reading it for the the literature value i guess all right so i'm just gonna pick a page out of this and i'm gonna tear this page now i know people don't like to tear their books apart i know um this maybe i wouldn't use this one this one is prison all right let's find a word relish i'll use the word relish for my other one and then we have originality up there relish that's maybe we can think of it as something to eat relish on your hot dog okay so i'm using a thesaurus because i like the print and we're gonna do a background technique i know i am blushing i really am i hope you guys are laughing with me because seriously i just picked i i saw a cowboy and i thought that would be good because you know cowboy boots and just seemed like masculine okay so what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna use this piece of paper this from this book to make a background piece of paper and to start i'm going to add a little bit of color first we're going to do that first and the reason why i bought these books at goodwill is because i mean honestly a lot of those books aren't going to sell at some point they're going to destroy them so this is kind of a fun way to get some free pattern paper so i have one of the blending brushes and i'm going to use the i think i'm going to use a lighter color than this i'm going to use some craft ink okay and i am going to ink this brush up and i'm going to just blend some ink over this to kind of age it a little bit it's really neat you know i um when my mom passed away i went through a lot of her old books and she had some amazing old books that she kept she had the prophet um and it was i i pulled it out of her nightstand and the pages were all yellowed like this of course i kept the book because first of all the prophet is an amazing book but um it just it it was so neat to just imagine how many years she had had that book and she traveled with that book and how that book was important to her so there's something about the yellowed page that is just so beautiful feels so organic and real so that really kind of looks like an old um an old piece of paper but now we're going to do something to it that i love i'm going to just kind of crinkle it up a little bit you guys oh my goodness i'll read that book i'll let you know how it turns out if you want to pick it up okay so now i just added a few little crinkles and wrinkles into it and i'm going to grab a darker color ink so i'm going to go with some warm cocoa now and welcome to everybody who's just joining us we're making some old looking newsprint or or you could use newspaper too just make sure you read the article first because you don't want to put something on there that maybe the kids will pick up that's not appropriate like my book choice um and now i'm going to i'm not going to press on the head of this brush i am going to very lightly go over this just so that the little creases that i put in are picking up some of the ink yeah i don't know there it's it's kind of cool some people i remember i did a technique similar to this years ago on my youtube channel and i had a few people who kind of yelled at me and said oh how can you just you know destroy a book like that and i thought about it and i thought well well i mean nobody's reading it anymore and now i'm using it to create a card which is going to bring a different type of joy so maybe it's not the worst thing okay so i just accented some of the little wrinkles that i put in here and well yeah i mean that's right i i'm reading some of your comments if if it's a love like a valentine's day card you're making for your man then by all means get a romance novel and put that stuff on the front all right now i'm going to wrinkle it up ah no it's not your thesaurus i bought this one at goodwill because i like the print your thesaurus is still downstairs but you would like a thesaurus hard wouldn't you yes yeah that would be kind of thing that you would like okay so now i'm going to go even a little bit more dramatic i'm going to take some dark chocolate i see people saying gina k you ain't right [Laughter] i know i'm not right i'm very wrong all right and then i'm going to just stroke this down very lightly just to hit some more of those wrinkles that i created yeah oh yeah old sheet music would be great i i think it'd be really cool to go to goodwill and find like an old book of christmas carols sheet music and use that paper for christmas card background that'd be so pretty okay so there we go yeah you know a lot of people okay i'm seeing some of you are with me on this concept because i just saw one comment go by where somebody said that they bought an old book um for an art journal and you definitely can use this kind of thing in art journaling and when you distress it like this i'm just using my heat tool to dry it a little bit when you distress it like this you can't even really notice the words and then you're going to put stuff on top of it but you know of course you do have to be a little extra careful uh certain types of books because certain types of books have certain types of words that we wouldn't want displayed on the mantel okay now the next thing we're gonna do is i don't know if you guys have seen this yet but this blew my mind i had to get it this is the tim holtz uh decal trimmer so this trims your paper with a deckled edge now of course you can tear this paper and give it kind of a deckled edge or if you have the old-fashioned deckled edge scissors you certainly can use those as well i don't have any deckle edge scissors but this i absolutely love and it's not too decalled so it's not like it's going to be torn all uneven we'll make a card like that but this one i just had to use this listen to that it's got this kind of i don't know if you can see the edge very well but can you see how rough the edges let me see if i put a little piece of white card stock behind it so you can see it can you see the deckled edge how it's not straight tom's looking real close here to see if you can see that hard to see well yeah you see it okay so um i'm going to cut down into this and i'm going to cut this piece of paper to be about three inches wide so i'm cutting over the words i'm going to just cut off the words a little bit it doesn't it's just a deco edge just a deckled edge okay i need to mount this on cardstock first because this paper is super thin so let me do that although look how cool it is when it makes the uh oh i kind of like that my card stock is still a little damp so what i can do to make this easier is just tack it down onto some cardstock first but i kind of like what what just happened here so i'm gonna go with it because i like how it's just raw looking there so it cuts a nice straight edge but it gives it a deckled finish all right so we're going to do the same thing on the other side here we're going to go to three inches okay and okay i'm gonna just pull that off there it's perfect actually i really like that it gives you just the kind of look you're going for then i'm going to take this down to about four and a half inches so we're going to do the same thing again that cut nicely so four and a half inches will make this maybe i'll go a little bigger four and three quarter inches okay there we go so now i have that deckled edge i really love this look i love it so much and you know what i wanted to use and i didn't grab any so let me get some out of my drawer over here i wanted to use some ivory cardstock so you can see the difference between our white and ivory so this was three by four and three quarters so i'm gonna make this i'm gonna try decaling this edge and see how it looks see if i like it i'm gonna make it three and an eighth oh yeah that's so nice so three and an eighth i had to cut it a little bigger on the one side so i could decode the other side yes see it works beautifully on cardstock three and an eighth by four and three quarters so we'll start it at i'm sorry by four and seven eighths so we'll just start it a little lower by four and seven eighths there we go okay so this just feels right to me this kind of look i'm gonna just glue that together and that is going to be my patterned paper for my card yes old textbooks would be great and those things you can't get rid of those you pay like nine thousand dollars for them and then the next year there's a new addition and none of the students want to buy them so by all means make cards out of those things that's like uh and that would actually be really cute you have to kind of think too like who your audience is i mean if you are making a card for a college grad why not use an old textbook that's kind of cute don't you think okay so now i'm going to add some tape here and i'm going to be very careful not to tear this paper if i tear it it'll be okay i can kind of push it back together i think usual parking tickets old parking tickets you should irs notices come on tom keep coming with the ideas my goodness all right so now i'm gonna tack this down on here and hopefully it'll look pretty good and the beauty of this um this decal edger is your edges aren't going to line up perfectly and that's okay because that's what you want it to look like you want it to look kind of old and just you know not perfect okay so we're going to use this part for the card now i'm going to get more of that ivory card stock because i'm going to stamp this bird image so i really love this image here for this card i feel like it's perfect for it and if you didn't know the beautiful birds here they come they also have a coordinating die set so if you like to cut um out your images that is a great thing now uh we just got all these back in stock too i know people were waiting for those dyes to come back in stock and these stamp sets and i've been trying not to use things that are out of stock because i know it frustrates people so i i picked things that are available okay not saying you have to get it just if you want it it's there okay so we're going to cut this out using one of the dies and we're going to stamp it in charcoal brown first which is my one of my favorite browns i like dark chocolate and charcoal brown charcoal brown is almost black and it's great for um you know when you're using ivory you don't want black ink but you want it to be nice and dark this is definitely a nice dark ink okay let's stamp this bird all righty and what i like about stamping in these kinds of colors instead of just black is you do not have to um you don't have to color now you can color if you want and i think the way i'm going to color this is i'm just going to very very lightly shade some craft ink on this little guy so i'm going to use that same uh blending brush and some craft ink and then i'm going to very lightly again not putting a lot of pressure but i'm just going to very lightly add a little bit of shading there and that just takes kind of the starkness away from the cardstock it just kind of ages the look of the image and if you really want to get fancy you can do this and then if you want you could go in with that charcoal brown that's left on there and you could just kind of come in from the edges a little bit just to brown it up a little bit more just along the edges make it match a little bit okay that's also going to eliminate the white space once you cut it cut this out with the dies you won't have the white or the ivory starkness going around the outside it's gonna blend in just a little bit better okay so let's put this aside and we'll clean off the bird who would give me a thumbs down oh you know joyce i get a lot of thumbs downs and i just i just want you guys to know that i think i said i liked it in one of my videos and i didn't mean that i liked it because i don't who likes a thumbs down right but what i meant by that was youtube actually counts a thumbs down as interaction and when somebody gives you a thumbs up or a thumbs down youtube says oh people like to interact with this person let's push her video to the top and get more people to watch it so actually even the thumbs down people it backfires on them because it ends up helping my video get seen so that's kind of funny isn't it it's kind of comical all right so now i'm going to cut this out i know i'm a little bit off the screen there but i'm going to line this up and i'm going to tape it down with some purple tape just to make sure that it doesn't move because it's such a big die i don't want it to shift around so put that there like that from a youtube yeah that's right from a youtube standpoint a thumbs down is better than nothing so if you wouldn't mind giving me a thumbs up or a thumbs down whatever you're feeling and also if you're watching me on youtube and you'd like to subscribe to my channel i would appreciate that there's a little notification bell that you can click on and if you click on that and every time i go live or every time i post a video or a youtube short you will get a notification also when i post in on my community page you'll get a notification and if i post on my youtube stories you'll get a notification so you can see how pretty that looks isn't that just a pretty look together i love that so much okay well i appreciate you guys saying that you're all so kind i just i love monday nights i love thursdays i just love seeing you and you guys are just the kindest people and it's always so wonderful to have you here with me all right i'm going to put this aside and we've got to figure out our greeting now now here's where where tom doesn't like the greetings tom wants man greetings what are some of the greetings you came up with tom um what did we say um i don't smell anything that was one of your greetings [Laughter] um you're gonna finish that yeah those kinds of things we're not gonna have those kinds of greetings um you know what's really neat about these two stamp sets seriously beautiful birds this has some nice spiritual things like he will shelter you under his wings rest in the lord bless this nest love you always i love that but this one also has wing things like that you could use for birds spread your beautiful wings i mean that would be like something maybe more for a girl for like graduation or something but your love keeps lifting me higher and higher that's so cute rise i love that rise up i love love how they mix and match but i think we need to do something a little bit different so i'm going to uh go with a completely completely different type of greeting here so let me find my greetings i wasn't prepared you guys know i'm never prepared for anything so i'm going to get my little my little mini sets out i keep them all in here and i'd like to find something that looks a little bit more masculine maybe isn't such a um like a scripty look so i'm gonna just thumb through here that's nice here in my thoughts and prayers let's see how about you mean the world to me let's use this one even though it's a floral you mean the world to me i would send this to you tom you do mean the world to me all right i'm coming i just have to grab a piece of cardstock here so i've got another piece of ivory and i'm going to stamp my greeting right on my panel so i'm going to make this three and three quarters of an inch by five inches that's what size this panel is going to be and we're going to add a little texture into this but i guess you can't really see the background maybe i should do craft what do you guys think you think craft would be a good color let's go with craft because i'm looking at it on craft here and i think it would be a beautiful look so i'm gonna cut this in half first and then we will cut that three and three quarters of an inch by five inches yeah i think this is going to look better and then we could put it on an ivory card base so yeah that's going to look better right i like that and then this we can have coming in from the side like this and then what is that sound do people hear that that's a weird sound i think i'm gonna do a strip going right across with the greeting you know you have to kind of see it first before you make that final decision so i think that'll really pop on an ivory card base and we will add a little strip going across the center okay i'm loving this idea alrighty so let's get the misti back and we will do that little greeting things are falling everywhere can you guys see okay or do i need to come in a little bit closer i think i'll come in just a little bit closer okay you mean the world to me so i'm going to put that down here at the very bottom because i'm going to make this a really skinny strip and this is cut to the right size believe it or not i just happened to pick up a piece that looked like it was gonna fit right across so i'm gonna make sure that that is in a good spot in the middle and hopefully i'll stamp it straight so i'm going to use the uh charcoal brown again for this oh i think that's a dog barking out there i didn't know what it was it sounded like a wolf or something love that love that so now we're going to trim this down now we want this to be a quarter of an inch so here is an easy way to cut a quarter of an inch i think or a half inch we'll make it a half inch hmm well we'll see we'll see what we're going to do but one thing that you can do is if you make this to an even mark when you start like let's say you make it to three inches okay so it's very hard to cut that right but if you flip it around if you want this to be let's say you want it to be three-eighths of an inch you're going to go one two three three little lines over and that's going to leave 3 8 of an inch hanging off that edge that's the way to cut a 3 8 of an inch strip you start at whatever even number and then you move it over 1 8 2 8 3 8 and that means that 3 8 of an inch is hanging off the edge and you'll get a perfect strip now i could have i could have measured that better i could have cut it and i could have stamped it afterwards so that it would be in a better spot but i think we're going to use this and i think what i'll do to jazz it up is i'll get that brush with the warm cocoa and i'll just edge it a little bit with warm cocoa this is just what's left on the brush from before i mean we're bringing out all the old school techniques here tonight on stampin chat with gina k okay just dusting along the edge there just to add a little bit of kind of a distressed look okay now we're going to we're going to need a card base so where did i put all that ivory card stock that i grabbed um here it is so i'm just going off camera for a second and i'm going to cut an ivory card base on my big cutter there it is and i'm going to use my score buddy to score it at five and a half inches so this is a four and a quarter by 11 inch piece of card stock scored at five and a half inches very poorly so i had to bend it a little to make it match at the bottom and there we go all right so now we are going to assemble this card so first let's put move this out of the way it's getting distracting so let's put this piece on here first this deckled edge oh i love it i need to do more deckled cards now that i have this thing it's just such a soft look and then we'll put this strip over the center right down here at the bottom yeah that's a good little trick for cutting thin strips yep all right i'll put this down here at the bottom sure that's pretty even that looks pretty even and then we're going to put it onto my craft back onto this ivory card base here we go i've been talking so much i have hardly let you guys get a word in edgewise all right this is a little deceptive while i'm trying to put this on there because i kind of feel like i should be centering this so i really have to look at these edges all right and then let's pop the bird up with some foam squares so i'll use the white foam squares for this instead of the black ones let me find my foam squares i think we'll need several here for this i can't pick anything up i cut my nails because they were so beat up my hands were so beat up i definitely need my hander pants tonight um they were so beat up from all the moving and packing and everything and um i had nails you know how when you when you break a nail and it's so far down that you can't even like trim it so that it looks like a normal nail that's where some of my nails are right now they're pretty bad i have to call my manicurist rina k and see if she can help me all right so i cut this one in half i'm gonna put one there and i'm just gonna put one on this other big one so i'm using quite a few foam squares for this you can also use foam tape if you have our foam tape you can cut strips of that instead or any foam squares or foam tape you have so is anybody yeah my hand or pants if you if you don't know what hand or pants are please watch my last video and you will know what hand or pants are i sha i shared my hand or pants in the last video so tom am i missing any crucial questions um one viewer said her husband thought she was watching gene natee oh gosh remember gina tay my mom used to wear gina tay that's funny okay so that's my finished card so isn't that quick and easy it's not quick um but it's only not quick because i talked so much and i read half a chapter out of a romance novel so you can cut all of that out of the process and this will be kind of a quick card the die cutting machine devi that i use is a spellbinders platinum all right so let's make another one and we'll just do a different color combination here and this one will go a little bit faster because we know what we're doing now and we can do we can do a couple different things we don't have to do it exactly the same way so i'm going to start this one with some soft stone so we'll do soft stone we're going to make this a little bit gray so i'm going to add soft stone in here now this is going to give it a whole different look it's going to be more um what do they call that time remember when we were talking about the kind of furniture that that we were thinking about getting that with the metal like industrial right that industrial look where it's more silver yes so industrial is very popular right now for guys in fact kind of have a little bit of an industrial look going in our in our new warehouse we got furniture and the desks are kind of a grayish wood and then metal that silvery brushed metal kind of industrial okay so remember i'm going to cut these edges off so i'm not too worried about the edges in fact i'm going to do this one a little bit different anyway i'm going to maybe just use one column all right so again i'm going to crinkle it because i like that yeah my mom used to wear gina's hair i remember it being in the bathroom and um i would get ready for school in the morning when i was like in grade school and i would put a little gina tay on and now when i smell gina tay do they still have it it's very strong it did its job well it did its job okay so i'm gonna go ahead and do direct to paper with this just kind of rubbing over getting some of that those wrinkles in there maybe i will use a little more of this i don't think the column is big enough the thesaurus has the columns the romance novel did not have the columns i was really hoping the romance novel would work out i'm going to put a little more soft stone on here too i think i want it a little darker all right now i'm going to [Applause] dry this ginate is great in the summer it is good in the summer because it's very very strong and if you sweat in the summer and i sweat in the summer it's good to have something that will camouflage that yeah yeah oh gina tay in the refrigerator that's a good idea i bet that feels really good going on all right we're going to cut this down a little bit more than we did last time i'm going to kind of go in halfway into this column so i'm going to go like to the two and a half inch mark this time we're going to make this a little bit thinner i'm just going to trim okay we'll go two and a half and let's go to let's go to four and a half this time i'm just winging it here people i'm really just winging it you guys know that about me so let's use some white cardstock for this we're gonna go with the white look i have cardstock everywhere i actually guys you won't believe this but today when i came home from work all the stuff that i used in the last video was still all over my work top and my the stamps weren't even clean from the wreath builder cards seriously okay i'm going to go to the 2 and what is that 5 8 mark so let's just make sure that's going to cut it yep that's going to cut it right there that'll look good two and five-eighths oh a hymnal would be beautiful ida ray that's a great idea you don't have to worry about the cowboy incident happening there either that's gonna be squeaky clean the cowboy incident it will forever be known for all of us that watch this live together we'll have our little secret cowboy incident joke going okay so i'm gonna put this together oh i i botch it up yup you're right and yeah i even if i botch it up right it's that's the new plan plot twist i yell plot twist and we just go with it okay all righty so hopefully i'm gonna nail this see that positivity streaming out all right i didn't quite nail it it's a little bit more at the top than the bottom but let me show you how to fix that you just trim that off and we're only gonna do a hair so there we go now it's perfect there is the hair that i cut off that made all the difference in this card whoever gets this they're gonna like it more because i cut that hair off now i think that we need a a soft kind of grayish card base so this is our is this stormy spy or is this soft stone i think i think this is well i don't know let me see i got some grays here okay yeah yeah yeah i think this is um stormy sky so we're gonna go with stormy sky if i'm wrong i'm really sorry okay we could even put this in the center let's do that so all right i'm gonna put this aside and we're gonna go with our wings now so should we do this dragonfly oh the big moth would be amazing do you think the guys will know that's a moth would you know that's a moth tom would you know that this is a moth or would you think it's a butterfly and as the only man in this room that i'm standing in right now i'm gonna ask you would you prefer a dragonfly or a moth is it is it in my hair at the time no it's not in your hair i'm not asking anymore i'm going with the dragonfly is it in my hair at the moment oh my gosh that's great ah okay so let's do the dragonflies in the misti so we can stamp them all at once here i'll pick those up yeah dragonflies for men okay that's good i'm glad we all agree that the dragonfly is the ticket now the color that i'm going to use for this is slate so slate is another one of those colors like charcoal brown that i love for this technique because it actually almost looks black but it's it's got a grayish hue and it dries a little lighter so you know once it's dry it looks like a chalkboard that's been washed but you know you can still see a little bit of that fadedness it doesn't look quite as black as when it's fresh and never used okay so there's my slate dragonflies now we'll color those just a little bit with some of the uh soft stone all righty you guys all doing good out there it's so fun to see you all thank you for joining me okay here we go just a little bit of soft stone i don't know if melanie's watching tonight i i hope she's not because i hope she's enjoying her family time on her birthday but i'll let her know that tonight's video is dedicated to her and her beautiful winged things that she drew for us and that uh we all wished her a very happy birthday i'm sure because your comments stay you know when you guys make comments you can watch the live chat in real time while you're watching the replay there we go okay so now i just put a little bit of gray on there and now i'm going to cut these out with the coordinating dies let's do it okay here is the spellbinders machine again a platinum i do like this machine one of the things i love about this little machine is first of all it's little second of all it it folds up which is really convenient if you don't have lots of extra space in your stamping space that's nice to have that okay so we'll we'll pin these down no um pun intended did you ever go to the i went to the zoo and they had like a bug exhibit and all the bugs are just pinned onto boards i kind of felt sorry for them i like to think that they just passed away in nature scientists found them on the ground and put a pin in them is that being um naive tom [Laughter] don't laugh at me just like chickens yeah chickens when you eat chickens they just keel over and that's when they harvest me oh my goodness all righty here we go oh melanie's gonna love seeing all those happy birthdays there's one little dragon and there is another little dragon thank you guys for laughing along with my weirdness okay so my plan is a dragonfly here a dragonfly there or maybe the opposite and then a greeting coming in from the opposite side isn't that cool i think that's going to be really i don't want to say pretty because we're going with masculine it's going to be really handsome this is a handsome card right there all right now we've got to pick a greeting that's one of my big problems tom i think you need to help me design a stamp set of greetings and you gotta help me pick a font because all my fonts are very kind of girly times roman time is roman gold times one that's really all right i get it times roman that's a man oh here these are good these are good look at these birthday wishes i love that font do you like that font okay we're gonna go with that this is from natural silhouettes it's got thinking of you with sympathy and birthday wishes in a very masculine style font man font we need man fonts okay i'm going to use a block for this and i'm going to use some white cardstock for this here's a little oh that might be hard to cut we need to do our trick again so i'll use a bigger piece so i'm going to use birthday wishes and i'm going to stamp this in slate to keep it consistent although you know when i do a greeting like this i think i want to use black i think i'm going to use black for the greeting something about it i feel like it's going to need it especially because even though it's a masculine greeting it is still a bit delicate this font so we'll put that right there like that okay so let's cut this with the paper cutter now how big do we want this we want this to be about three quarters of an inch so we're gonna start we're gonna cut this at five inches right there and then we're gonna go down one quarter two quarters three quarters of an inch and we're going to cut it there there we go there's your three quarters of an inch yeah i clean everything with our tidy towel the tidy towel is a great way to clean your stamps it's great for when you're using the wreath builder it's completely lint free it's black so it doesn't really show the ink as much doesn't look too bad when it's inky i throw mine right in the washing machine with my leggings i do and i wash them i don't dry them i just let them air dry or i just don't let them air dry i just keep them damp all right so i think let's lay this out you guys tell me what you think so i was thinking that this could go in the center like this and then we could have the birthday wishes coming in from the side like maybe over here coming in off the side of the card and i'll trim this down a little bit so it won't be let me do that trim that off just a hair so it would come in from the side and then we would have one dragonfly over here is the cardstock uh white this cardstock is white yeah the other one was ivory and then we have another dragonfly up here so do you guys like that layout should we go with that or should we just have the greeting in the center and cut off right on the edge there so it would look kind of like that just a tube going down the center hmm let's see what they're saying they're deciding i don't see it no the no greeting to the right okay mary kay do you mean no put the greeting to the right or okay people are saying no off to the side they like it off center all right i got it i'm up to speed sorry it's a little slow all right so let's take this down and we will do it off to the side it looks like people like it coming off to the side so we're going with that all right so we'll get that right in the center which it doesn't really have to be perfect but you know it kind of does i love that newsprinty look now we'll get this off to the center but i want to chop it a little bit here i don't want it to be quite so now we could flag it um should we flag it we could flag it but i kind of i kind of think it'll be fine if we don't if we just have a flat edge rather than do a you know a point and then we'll put it over here like that so we'll tape it on the easiest way well it's probably not the easiest way but it's my way we'll put it down here like that and then i'm just going to take my paper cutter and i'm just going to trim it so it's flush up against the edge there we go okay now we're gonna have this big guy over here and this little guy down here like that i'm gonna pop them up why not i think because of the the simpleness of these cards and you know i'm not going to put any rhinestones or bling because i'm trying to keep them a little bit more masculine uh i think popping them up gives it that little extra pizzazz that we need i need my nails done real bad but i know you guys understand we made it into our new place all in one piece tom actually carried everything in to the truck and everything into the building all by himself what a guy you are the man tom it was just about forgetting sorry sorry didn't mean to remind you all right i'm just cutting these into like tinier strips to fit i did not need to make that strip that tiny but it'll work yeah you could definitely add a little hint of blue or turquoise into these cards as well if you wanted to give it a little bit more color but i was just trying to go for a monochromatic look tonight so we'll get him up there and then we'll add liquid glue i don't know if it would give it a lumpy effect because it's so thin this paper you know the the pages of the book are so thin you might get a little bit of a lumpy effect but that being said it already looks lumpy right because i wrinkled it all up so maybe that would add to the texture maybe that would be a good thing so i would definitely try it you know if you have a book that has like you know 400 pages who cares if you burn one right give it a try and um if you do it share it in our group okay there we go there is my second card let me find the other card all right so this is my attempt at some masculine cards using the old book technique now i do have other videos on my youtube channel using this technique where i do add more colors into it so if you're looking for something that's a little bit more colorful and i also did a live very early last year using a similar technique so there's a look at the finished cards all right well that was fun huh where's my book anybody wants to know the name of that book i started with
