[Music] are you serious when i say grab your favorite hammer and hit the subscriber button or smash it you guys are doing just that can't believe it thank you so much i don't think you know how much it means to have you guys hitting that button subscribing liking commenting coming along getting invested in what's going on here at the shop so thank you so much so this is part two of the titanium knife here it is we last video we forge it got it just kind of just about rough ground in so today we're picking it up let's get this thing uh i guess in the vise and you know i'm gonna do some layout make sure i know where i'm going with my bevels and then let's get after it thank you again for being here looking forward to seeing this thing i don't know if it's going to be done today or this week or this month oh it's going to take forever anyways let's do this thing here we go oh wait i need that okay here we go [Music] i gotta move the camera [Music] so i got half of it ground with the angle grinder i'm gonna turn it over and do the other side now all right i'm off to the belt sander i feel like the only thing that's going to be memorable about this project is how much tim complained about grinding titanium [Applause] i love gardening [Applause] [Music] so i got this belt sander last year and this is the first knife i've ground on it who i get this the first knife i've ground pretty much ever i built one when i first started blacksmithing and that was like 10 years ago doesn't really count anyways i'm going to cut off this part of the backing plate we actually added this a little bit thicker there's another one behind it anyways we're gonna i'm gonna cut it off so that i can get in and grind on this side to get that shoulder on the knife i can do it good on this side but not this side i'll just cut a little bit out like so that should give me there modifications love it [Music] sometimes grunting helps too better really grunt though what what you can't hear what i'm saying sometimes you gotta really grunt when you take these things off like oh oh wait that didn't work hand sometimes it doesn't work though no wait oh yeah how's that is that pretty good it wouldn't be monday i'd say it's time for a weekend sorry man [Music] so uh i just realized that i've made a bit of a mistake in that the tang should be actually bent so that it bends down the curve here so i'm going to actually uh quickly heat this back up and try to curve it totally not the time to be doing that but that's a mistake in my part hopefully it won't damage anything so that's what we're going to go do right now [Music] [Music] [Music] uh [Music] [Music] [Music] so well it's been a couple days since i've updated you and what's going on and it's going good just taking a really long time way longer than i thought it was going to take so i've got the bevels roughed in pretty much done just starting to work on the tang here i had to do some curving adjustments to it just starting to clean it up get it shoulder set up here for the bolster to mention it so it's all coming along nice but take a long time i came in early today try to get a head start on it so i think i'm just gonna get filing when it's nice and quiet here it's kind of where we're at [Music] you know what i need a break from this let's go see what martin's up to let's bug him hey martin i'm just gonna show him what you're doing okay i'm just gonna follow you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right martin thanks for the break back to it so if you want to see more of behind the scenes with the tooling for the axes with the upsetter let me know in the comments below we could do a little video showing some of the upgrades we've done to it and the tooling setup etc also if you want to know when the axes are going to be available we're hoping the first batch is going to be available in october it'll be a small amount and then we're going to kind of do drops see how it goes but follow me on instagram because that's where i'll be keeping you up to date almost daily with that and then also announcing it i'll try to do it here as well but most up to date will be on instagram so if you're not following me there and you want to i'll put the link down below so you can check it out but for now we're going to jump back to the knife [Music] [Music] so it might be a little bit hard to see on camera but got some embarrassing deep sort of sanding marks from the edge of the belt sander in here so i got a ton of sanding i'm gonna have to do by hand to get that out so i just bought 40 grit we're gonna try that out make sure this goes as fast as possible [Music] all right so update for you don't know how this is all really showing on video yet um i've spent probably four days didn't even turn the camera on once well how many time lapses of the same thing do you need to see so where we are is that all the beveling is done pretty much in a little bit of cleanup to do maybe on this part here and shoulder is crisp tang is good and this is all nice in here and i've actually sanded this one side with a 40 grit by hand and it's 98 finished with the 40 grit but that took all morning just to do the 40 grit on one side so i got another four hours of work on this side and then and it's thursday and tomorrow's friday and i want the video posted i am going to call in some reinforcement to get this thing further along so you get a better video out of it so where is martin market can you please help me i need help this is that zirconium guard that i made in the last video and i haven't touched it since then but what i'm going to do is quickly mart and i are just going to talk about it and then figure out the layout so that he can start machining this so that then i can get that fitted up so i'm going to do hand sanding he's going to do machining we're going to do a little bit of collaboration effort here hopefully get this thing closer to being done you do that i'm doing this that is such a light knife that's so crazy [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] martin super stressed out there might be a crack i don't know man i'm super stressed out this one right there yeah i don't know man stress it out so stressed right now [Music] so martin has just got this rough machined in which is super sweet i'm not done hand sanding at all but it's close enough that i'm going to do the layout for this part so he can machine the slot and i can just finish cleaning this up so i'm just going to figure out the layout etc for that [Music] so the mill end broke luckily it didn't damage anything but i gotta get a new meal end so it's like the end of the day that guard is destined to not be a part of this video and the hand sanding is not even done at 40 grit and i spent all day and i didn't get two sides done on one night that's crazy anyways i'm telling you this in hopes you understand i'm working hard for you but this is a very challenging project because it just takes a lot of time so i might have to leave her there for this video as part two and then we'll pick up part three i actually when i started this project i wanted there to be only part one and part two but now that i'm just further getting into it i'm like i'm not gonna um not go all the way i want to send it on this project because never coming back to any titanium knife so let's do it right anyways uh i think that's going to be it for us big thanks to martin to helping me accelerate the process even though it kind of got away us on us at the end but thank you for watching look forward to seeing you in the next video if you haven't already subscribed please do and we look forward to seeing you in the next video bye for now you
