[Music] good morning everyone welcome back to my channel and I have a few exciting things to share with you this morning first of all want to introduce you to this you can see that that is an extraordinary piece of stone and I've had it for over two years and I've been waiting for a special occasion to set about it the plan is that I'm going to make this rock into a dagger for a friend of mine because tomorrow is his 50th birthday so when the actual rock is an igneous rock called a seitan what it means is its closest relative is obsidian and just turn over I've not napped a piece of data sight this size before so anything could happen but I'm going to go in there with a heart full of honey and believing in the outcome but prior to starting now I want to introduce you to a couple of things so for example I made this dagger last week and it's a flint dagger it's got an antler handle then it's got a pouch made up of buckskin stitched onto a piece of silver birch that came from Russia and the pattern on it has been inspired as you can see from this book and it's a burial chamber in France could gather in its chamber in its in the place called Brittany near the Carnac stones what am I doing with this well I decided that what I'm going to do is I'm actually going to raffle this so there will be a link attached to this post where you can actually go and buy yourself a raffle ticket just one there going to be a pound each or as many as you like and the reason I'm introducing that to you and raffle in it is because I'm going on a journey I'll show you this bag last week and there's four skins here in turn in total and it says come out exactly how I wanted it to come out this is a big journey bag and it's going to be filled up with the press of direct survival kit and on that journey which I've been speaking about quite a lot I'll be going to many sites and I'll be making videos of them sites and bringing them to life for you and so fifty years old right [Music] have you already realized your dreams are you prepared to forget your dreams or are you about to get your dreams started well firstly I've got a dream into that rock this morning but also [Music] that is my prayer storeit dream machine and it's not that I intend to get it I made a decision a clear decision to get it and this week I've put a deposit on it because that's how I'm traveling I'm going around these amazing sites you could say why'd it go like that because that's what's been in my heart ever since I was a little boy and it's time to get my way along that journey I did a crowdfunded and some of you actually contributed very nicely to that so firstly real huge thanks for that and that crowdfunding page is still open if you wanted to continue to contribute you could but as I said I've made that decision I'm doing it I'm following the dreams last year when January I went to Spain and one of the things that I found in Spain was this and this is one of the one of the most famous harpoons from one of the cave systems in Spain I just thought it was so curious and there this is one that I made yesterday it's a little harpoon from reproduction from a place called star car got me asking a load of little questions because a tiny little hole in the end there I'm wondering how that fits in and I'm figuring that this actually goes onto a narrow and os-- up until last year I thought these their harpoons were a lot bigger and some are but generally they made a lot of Micra lifts and small points so you might not be Gary going on these journeys but through my channel you can you'll be able to go right round the world with me and visiting and exploring and finding out things that I I don't even know about yet because the experience that I've already learned is each time I go on a journey I learn something new and that's amazing so exciting times now before we get excited about too much need to get over the procrastination I've been going through I've been looking at this rock and it wasn't its day it just was not in Spain so before we get started just remember raffle tickets right the link raffle tickets and every raffle ticket that you buy you may be wishing for the dagger to come your way and it is going to go - someone's in someone's direction but you're going to be supporting me to take you on this journey because it's actually a joy to be in a position to be influencing you guys and showing you how to Masek wonderful the stone-age times work we're going to be going on annex an incredible adventure together so let's go start it oh I'm still procrastinating and I don't like this rock for this it looks too untidy that looks a bit cleaner hasn't done as much work so I think that's what we get started on I did visualize taking a big plate of off there and working the play itself and that might not be the bird that's not a bad idea in itself so actually set up a platform at this end and send something strong down there if you look in the middle here it bevels down before it bevels up so I'll probably need to take some of that away as well so that this doesn't get thin and running into that cuz otherwise it will just snap off here so we'll get started shall we that put some glasses on to see what they're doing [Music] it's a de site but I said it's volcanic closest relative is obsidian and it's gonna be these edges are going to be so sharp I'm probably going to be bleeding in a minute but let's hope not too badly [Music] you could say why don't you put some gloves on I prefer to touch the material there's a relationship then I'll cut off that relationship between men is wrong [Music] then we never know what quite could happen [Music] it still goes up so I've got it removable so you're probably gonna be asking yourself is it different to net than Flint it's a lot softer so that means that don't technically have to hit it quite as hard but just right with any stone you should try your best to tune into it if you can that's interesting that we've got a sort of a rounded hinge there so ready it's teaching it's talking and I've got to learn quick about why that happened as you can see all these little bits they'll they'll get you or they'll get me so I've got to avoid that too so we'll go back to this stone the thing is with des cités you can't see through it at all it's a it's much then denser in its it's a it's a denser material than obsidian itself [Music] [Music] of course like one of them don't don't do this at home shows isn't it right okay so we have the potential now so it doesn't sweep up so we've got to go around the back of this man and convert the back into a platform shape now if I don't get some passionate if I don't get the actual major flake off that I want I won't have actually ruined the Flint the they site it just means that I'll have to treat it slightly differently I'll explain to you so all that bevels back now look like that and this edge here needs some attention so that we can hit that with the idea of sending a long-range flake down there interesting thing you probably almost detected or watching the video but my energy I've been waiting for this for a long time so there's a lot for me standing in the way of a stake to this [Applause] [Music] so that's the shop I reckon that soft em is a little bit too light I've got one here that I've all pulled some pretty big punches off this is a big old billet of Samba oh so we're ready for this we'd cut that down there and we're gonna punch your way through death wish me luck you whoa look at this [Music] that's quite something in it look at that so well do I know that that could be tricky in itself right god damn never held such a thing that's amazing look at that shock wave so we'll where we're gonna go with this is we're going to take a little dagger from through there and put that in an antler handle I reckon so we move on to a different type of software there something a bit like this and basically these edges are so thin what we're going to do is we're going to edge walk into the material a bit mate to be able to see [Music] [Music] sometimes in life you want to you might be living your dreams right now you might not even have a dream but if you have had one for a long time and you think your dream just slipped away why not pick up the idea of going off to that dream all over again because what is it in life that takes your dreams away from you it's commitment yeah cool this is just because it's so thin it's very very easy to break so you've just got to take more time with it we'll have commitments in the light and commitments can sometimes mean that you dreams up to go on hold but I think dreaming it's all part of building good quality mental health and that is important [Music] and the other thing is Stone Age people when you look at a lot of what they did they actually spent a lot of time creating being creative and thinking about pattern so I actually describe this as the Neolithic fertility dragnet dagger because all these shapes in here they're kind of like the womb and the penetration so it's all about the fertility and these people have taken that journey into themselves and they've put that journey into a burial chamber which kind of sites their vision but the person that they're burying the symbology in around them is suggestive of rebirth is that something that we still think about are we prepared to believe there's such a thing as rebirth and that's one of the reasons I'm going in this journey because gonna be stepping in to the ancient mind don't just go and read the world on Harley and down around fleshly unlock ancient mind you can see how just silly thin it is at the end here some of that's gonna go I reckon from about here I shouldn't be over value in that because it's just too thin [Music] with trying you can even hear that sound is different so much sharper that's normally a warning sound telling you to be ultimately careful because still got some more because it actually just flicks over there just this ride is that [Music] Harley's not going to be a tenth right that's going to be a free bird [Music] it's been quite a week this week so I've been making it back for nearly a month right you can I've been doing other things as well obviously but had all these skins ready I didn't think I was gonna need all the schools in the bag but it turned out that the big skin wasn't quite big enough to do everything and I've actually even still got to make a lid for it but during the time that I was making the bag the flat the bag was only ever seen by me on the back of this machine going off around all these places and really connecting up with why I do what I do the hands got shakes now and why I do what I do so the dream has been it's been growing in me right and while I've been making the bag I've sort of just been so close to every part of that dream and it's still along the way I had no idea well actually I did have an idea but we'll come to that I wasn't sure that all my dreamily desires were going to come together and the way I was wanting and wanting them to I didn't know whether I get financed for the vehicle couldn't see why not but I didn't know and when I got the bag finished there was a bit of a waiting game going on and it's funny because hit a bit of a low spot there inside myself because I everything was hanging there and what I didn't realize is how making the bag had been their way of me holding myself having a really deep focus so when the bag ended in terms of like getting to the point where I thought right okay you've done that I know you've still got the lid but that you can get on with that maybe later on because you've got some other things to attend to there was nothing there to hold myself and I spent the whole day feeling a little bit fragile because I haven't heard back from people I couldn't get hold of people and the whole thing punch in suspension and I was sort of hung in suspension tricky tricky and that's when I thought well I need to hang on to something and so I've gotten to the flint knapping because I knew the Flint left and there's one thing that always holds me sames little place is beautiful rocking it we have to be careful you don't go too deep and you get flakes pacing right and so I set out and I didn't really have a plan then that dagger I just thought you know just go there and I've and then I started looking at in the books looking for some inspiration when I saw that pattern I thought I did you know what I've got I've got to deal with that but I personally didn't know where the pattern came from so I had to look it up and I looked up and now I know that it comes from this particular place and I know that there's quite a lot what's the interesting thing is is you can't actually get to that tomb by foot you actually have to go there and I'm a river and the tomb itself whereas the river goes up and down it puts it in submission so you can only see it at certain times of the year fascinating stuff but now it's inspired me that means I've both go there so that's a new journey and I've never been to Brittany so huge part of Stone Age culture was going on there thousands of stone circles what what is that going to do you know how am I going to come through that what's gonna change the questions are begging to be answered first blood that's gonna believe it [Music] this stuff is nothing like flint it's over soft an extraordinarily sharp I'm literally I'm not so much flaking this at the moment I'm literally taking material away and slowly building a bevel into these shapes the thing is was the Obsidian and stuff it cuts you so clean you don't really collaborate as well as when you cut yourself a flint just and trying to take short flakes so I don't create too much engine anyway the point is it wasn't intended to be hours and hours of footage this so I think why I do is I'll press on with it and I'll show you a picture of the finished dagger and well that's if we finish it and it's got to be done I've got to take this to the fiftieth birthday and I'll let you see the out and I'll let you see the outcome so I hope you enjoyed it probably the video is worth watching just for that very flake alone wow that was an incredible flake and if you are supporting me thank you very much I look forward for one of you to win that dagger and I just can't wait for the journey to begin bless your hearts you've been watching Wheel Lord and I don't know what platform you were watching me on but you can subscribe like and share and get the word out there
