hello welcome back to my food shop today I'm going to build this snare drum why see how I do it stay tuned [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right so this jig it's going to work out pretty good I didn't show any process of building this because I just kind of wanted to put it together but it works with this Jay Bates design I just screwed it right to the plate there that way I can remove it or do whatever so the whole idea here is to get the drive around and you just you rotate the drum over the bit that's basically all it is a side piece that's glued with some 45 sort of little extra support the down rod is screwed in ideally this would be a threaded rod and you'd have a threaded nut right here in the middle so you can actually you know screw advance it as you're turning it and that would be better but I didn't want to go out and buy a threaded rod and I didn't have one so this is what I'm doing on the doubt on this first pass that I just did I just kind of marked off I don't know half-inch increments so I can move it over to a half-inch move it over and half-inch rotate it so on and so forth just to get it done but this is going to work out pretty good so let's look continue getting this done [Music] [Music] so I didn't film this jig build either because I wanted to get it done and I wasn't real sure how it's gonna work but let me run it down for you there's a side or a back and a front a base these rollers are off of a outfeed stand I just took the rollers off and placed my holes in the exact spot that I needed it in I could set the drum that I've already smooth on the outside on those rollers and I can rotate the drum on those rollers we've got a board in the middle with the slot in the middle I got a roundover bit in the router and essentially I just cut it spin it cut it spin it cut it spin it and just keep doing that until it's completely round and parallel the walls are parallel and completely round so that's what I'm doing and that's where I'm at I did a little test cut right here in the bout right here and I wanted to make sure that my sides were coming out parallel which they are and so that's good so I can finish I'm going to drop jump the router bit down a little bit and make some more passes this will take a while [Music] you [Music] this student turned out pretty cool really pleased on the way that turned out [Music] you [Music] this piece was on the old drum I've no idea what it's for I think it's to hold sheet music but if somebody can leave me a note in the comment let me know what that's for I'd appreciate it [Music] [Music] while you out my shopping [Music] the lefthand you hold this wire right here [Music] [Music] [Music] seems like everything's pretty good all right this snare drum turned out awesome I think it sounds better than the metal one of course I'm not a percussionist so I don't really know or have the ear for it this one turned out pretty good basically what I did was took a GP drum kit it's basically a student drum and I reused all the hardware the only thing I built was the shell itself and I reused the drum heads I've reused all the bolts everything this kid actually came with the stand a couple drum sticks a drum pad that you put on here so you can practice without waking everybody up in the house it came with pretty much everything so that's was the best alternative for me I don't plan on making a bunch of these I don't really plan on making any more of these but I always wanted to build a drum so I built one the name plate up front just has my daughter's name on it 2020 and a 3d printed that the only thing that I had troubles with is making sure that lug casings are correctly spaced and my case was just a little bit small on the outside diameter so I had to 3d print some spacers to go between the lug casing and the shell other than that everything went according to plan and it turned out pretty good like I said I'm not a percussionist I know nothing about drums other than they make noise but a little tap on it for you [Music] that's about all I know thank you for watching don't forget to Like share and subscribe and as always I'll see you next time you
