Make Up Your Mind - #ThursdayThoughts 09-02-2021

[Music] well looks like we're here for another thursday thoughts i'm so glad to be here you know the first part of this week was a pretty rough time for a lot of people and we still want to be praying for our friends that didn't do as well as we did have property damage and all that sort of thing but that's not really what i'm going to talk about today i want to talk about something that i have entitled make up your mind you know at one time they gave a thing down on the coast that said uh you've got to get out now a certain time and after that certain time if you hadn't gone then you got to stay so you had to they had to make up their mind we're going to stay or we're going to go well this make up your mind story i'm going to tell today was even about that bad or maybe a whole lot worse because people people in this bible story i'm going to tell a lot of them died because they didn't make up their mind so i want to read a scripture in first kings 18 verse 21 said and elijah came unto all the people and said how long haunt ye between two opinions if the lord be god follow him but if they'll be then follow him and the people answered him not a word they just they were so messed up they didn't want to say nothing that's the way it was they had been fooled by ahab and the gods that he served bail and they had went the way of that they went many times before and that god was not pleased with them and he sent uh uh his man elijah and said hey uh i want you to go down there and and confront those people that's pretty much my words what he's saying i want you to go confront him and uh they haven't led the children of israel just way off and worship and baal and stuff and uh so elijah said we're gonna have a test we're gonna have a test uh between uh the prophets of baal and the true and living god and see who is god and so he said you take a you you prophets of baal 450 of you and it's just one of me you take your uh a bullock and you dress it and you put it on the altar on the on the wood don't put any fire under it and i'm gonna do the same i'm gonna dress one and i'm gonna put it on on the altar on wood no fire under it he said since there's so many of y'all y'all ghosts first i'm doing all this and kind of my own wording but you can look at uh at the bible in first kings 18 chapter 18 of chapter 19 and this story unfolds for you and so they put the they put the bullock on the altar and they didn't put any fire under it and had plenty of wood that could have burned it up if they just lit the fire but they couldn't put any fire under it because this was a test by fire and the prophets of baal they began to pray and cry and scream and and try to get their god that was no god really to to answer by fire and he didn't answer by fire because he he wasn't capable of answering by fire well about noon elijah said you know what your god may be asleep somewhere he may he may be on a long journey so you might all cry out a little louder and wake him up oh boy that really got him and they went to screaming and hollering and crying and praying and praying and and cutting their cells with all kind of instruments and they were blood everywhere but you know that blood didn't do them any good that screaming didn't do them any good because that that god they were praying to was just a god in their minds it wasn't a god at all and so so elijah finally at late that afternoon you're supposed to be the evening sacrifice time elijah said okay it's my turn and he said uh that god that answers by fire now you remember he's gonna be god and so they they he said wait a minute said look it's too easy for my god said bring me a four barrel four barrels of water pour it on the sacrifice and on the wood it's well that ain't enough give me four more barrels and they poured it on what wait a minute that's not enough either give me four more barrels 12 barrels of water poured on the on the on the wood poured on the sacrifice it covered up the wood and the sacrifice and filled up the trenches around the altar and then i don't remember how many words it was it was less than 30 words a prayer that elijah prayed and all of a sudden the fire came down it burned up the sacrifice it burned up the wood it burnt the rocks that the that the altar was made out of it it licked up all the water in the trenches it literally just made a black hole where the where the sacrifice was and it was gone and when when when that was all said and done elijah asked the people of god he said now who who is god and he said god is is all all-powerful he is god and he said well get those prophets of baal and bring them down to a certain place and when he did they they uh killed all of the prophets of baal the moral of this story is that they made up their mind when that was done to say oh yeah god is god he's he's the almighty he's the powerful one he's the one that's gonna do all things for us and they came back to him in in a mighty way but they had to see a demonstration to do that you know what a real child of god we don't have to really see that much of a demonstration we can feed him in here we can feel him in the power of the spirit we can feel him when we wake up in the morning we can feel him after a storm i was talking to our producer brother scott and he said i went to sleep and slept like a baby monday night a sunday night because i remember that message he talked about how to sleep on a storm at night well you know what these people knew that anything that come against them after that anything that come against them all they had to do is call on their god the almighty god the god that has the ears it can hear the god that has a heart that cares the god that has a mouth that will speak out the god that's almighty the god is going to take us up to heaven someday if we keep on living right you know what i believe we all ought to count on jesus and what i'm asking you today to do do like these people did after they saw this miracle really they said god is god he is the almighty we're going to serve him but you know what he died for us on the cross his blood shed down that cross and he he paid the price for our healing he paid the price for for us to be able to get to go to heaven and there's no reason why for us to live for satan who's the god of this world hey make up your mind that's a thirsty thought that ought to stay with you for a while make up your mind okay god bless you
