I don't really do a lot of DIY on this channel but I've got a technique I used on a recent sign project video forthcoming in which I do a faux wood grain technique and I thought a lot of people would find it useful it's super simple and you can use it on just about anything by the way I know this looks like a staged mess but this is genuine to demonstrate I've got a piece of PVC sheet a chunk of MDF a sheet of aluminum and a scrap of insulating foam [Applause] I sealed the phone with a couple coats of Mod Podge I had lying around you could also use water dumb wood glue I think it's basically the same thing I also sanded the PVC and the aluminum to give it a little tooth it's not a requirement for the technique to work but I generally recommend priming your services first especially in DAF I like bullseye one-two-three hashtag not sponsored white or gray doesn't really matter it seems to stick to just about everything this combination is the one that I used in the recent sign project that I mentioned and I love the result I'll put all the color information down in the video description but while I'm at it I thought I'd try some other combinations and see what happens you really only need three things to make this work a can of spray paint a can of wood stain and a cheap chip brush gloves are nice too by the way I'll I it was this combination not this one again I'll put the details down in the video description this is Dirk walnut on top of warm caramel you can twist the brush as you go and then smooth it out add some little swirls in the middle and then brush it over them and there you go and here's dark walnut on sand I'm not liking this combination let's try honey I think that might actually work but the problem is this is a this is a glassy or paint and it hasn't fully cured so it's bleeding into the stain I'm gonna have to try this one again some other time let's try honey on ivory silk that's not too bad I have to work at the texture the color combination is good let's try classic grey with that what if I introduce a little bit of true black that might work nicely you're experimenting with that a little more I think that might look pretty nice all right let's try some stuff on top of stone gray let's start with dirt walnut not sure about that my gray on gray that's subtle kind of like that I'm not black not really sure that's going anywhere maybe gray on top of that blend some of this under the lighter stuff maybe oh you know what I've got some white stain too all right you're played with that one a little too much but the colors are promising all right so I think the clear winner today is the original color combination again I'm gonna put these all these colors down in the video description but oh yeah I do think some of these other colors are promising especially this sand the spray paint with the honey on top unfortunately I was getting some muddy results because I didn't let the underlying paint dry long enough it's still a little tacky I recommend at least 24 hours before you start putting the stain on top and I'm gonna keep experimenting with these barnwood colors the grays and the the sandy what is this ivory silk paint a little bit of white a little bit of black and that I think get the texture just right I think that'll look really nice but the point is to experiment so get yourself some paints and some stains and some some sample pieces of whatever because clearly this this will go on top of anything and I don't know hey tag me on instagram if you decided to try this I'd like to see what your results are good luck
