Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
That was epic, timestamp like https://youtu.be/CUb76s1ZDb0?t=468 I'd recommend.
I'm curious why he played Bf8 before the killer move, did he just miss the killer move at first or was Bf8 a tactical decision to lure a piece astray? Idk, seemed planned by magnus to me, but cool clip either way.
EDIT: Oh i see now he needed the Nb2 move first...
lmao Magnus slapping that Bb4 killer move excitedly! That's how you know you're getting wrecked soon.
What's great about this tactic is that it flows directly out of endgame fundamentals:
The power of an outside passed pawn, and the advantage of a bishop over a knight in a position with pawns on both sides of the board. Both of those are ideas that show up in every good endgame primer for beginners.
We could probably also say it's an example of the principle of two weaknesses, although that's less of a beginner concept.
Of course, you still need imagination to see it, since Bb3 is so counter-intuitive, but it really flows directly from ideas that 1200s should know.
ჯობავა ზი ლეგენდ. wait yesterday this video was named how did magnus carlsen react to jobava's 1. b3. lol
The pgn for those interested
I was curious about why they put the kings in the center of the board when they set the pieces up after the game. Apparently that will provide a definitive notation on DGT digital boards of where the game ended.
