what's up everybody and welcome back to the channel and today it is currently Friday September 22nd so because it's Friday it's rock metal head Friday all of this rock that I have missed out on my life we're uh we're checking out more I grew up listening to exclusively fans like Metallica and Megadeth and then like I got into like Progressive symphonic like metal like Symphony X and listening to guitars like Steve I enjoy like that's what I grew up listening to and then of course with the time I grew up in Lincoln Park and Incubus Incubus was the first concert I ever went to those that's what I listened to Growing Up but today making an appearance on the channel we are checking out Leonard Skynyrd so we made a video a long time ago actually like I think August 8th 2022 I pulled it up when we checked out Simple Man and that was the first time I ever listened to list Lynyrd Skynyrd or at least I know I mentioned it in that video that I know I've heard of this band but if right now you were to tell me a gun in my head play me or tell me a Lynyrd Skynyrd song besides simple man I wouldn't have one for you so let's actually let's actually Google it give me three steps Simple Man Saturday Night Special swap music I'm I'm that none of these are ringing a Bella bro again the name was so awfully written that I know I've seen and like you know of this band but there was like a plane crash oh man there's a lot of history here well my apologies for not being too familiar but that's gonna make this gonna make this a little bit more special we're checking out free bird from their Oakland Coliseum Stadium performance on July 2nd 1977. this concert was held about three months before the plane crash well dude I'm excited to check this out um going through the comments if people are deeply connected to this song and especially this performance knowing that this was going to happen so and then the term free bird isn't that like there's a feeling like of someone who's going like who passed and so they're a free bird now and it was the band thank you Danny Lee ogt good friend of the channel for encouraging us to check out this video today let's roll it [Applause] look at the 70s bro foreign [Applause] [Music] [Music] making out hard right now [Music] finally there tomorrow foreign do this is [Music] traveling traveling [Applause] cause there's too many places but if I stay with you [Music] you decide [Music] [Music] right here foreign [Music] [Applause] I love this [Applause] I recognize this song dude don't they play the song in Forrest Gump when he's about to tackle one of the Black Panther dudes or something no it's when it's when uh Jenny's with the debating committing suicide oh so that song makes a lot of sense it's about because again it's about someone who's about to leave oh man I just can't help and think like and imagine all of the people at this show right now being like dude I listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd uh perform Freebird and then they passed you know if I leave here tomorrow you could interpret that as again that I'm going to pass soon but it also could just mean but if I stay here with you girl things just couldn't be the same it seems like it's actually about a breakup because I'm as free as the bird now and this bird you cannot change Lord knows I can't change seems to be the song of a realization that we keep fighting for this relationship but it's just not going to work because changing's a lot harder than we need to than we it's a lot harder than we think man I wish we had better like better audio quality but for what we have it still sounds pretty I can tell how how they're recording it so it sounds a little just a little funky but just look how in to the performance the the crowd is oh my gosh dude I just read this comment I hear I'm not I'm 95 years old and about to fly free I remember this like it was yesterday thank you for the Memories my gosh I'm with someone who was there [Music] piano [Music] hello [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] [Applause] a girl at a concert before and it's horrible [Music] [Music] it's awesome [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah the Lord knows how to play [Music] [Applause] [Music] things [Music] [Music] parking like gets harder here okay [Music] continue [Music] December bless her heart I recognize that solo from Forrest Gump bro look at that dude [Music] it's like a independency the 4th of July so that oh there's a competitor flag I listen know what that is I don't know dude I didn't know that that song was going to start rocking so hard dude [Applause] everyone's just soloing like crazy right now is a little topless right here that was so well timed bro dude I'm like what a boss to talk about it [Applause] dance [Music] this is like the largest like [Music] great they got thirsty still hot in here to know that it turned on the air look at that job bro [Music] s [Applause] man that Fan's so good you think they were from San Francisco would y'all okay other oh they're called they were they're from Jacksonville Florida dude this is there's this picture of them like look at them bro as they grow like it's the same guitars dude rock and roll being a rocker like man you age well don't you oh man that was intense dude again bro I feel like today we just don't make music like this that like again we have like a 10 to 11 minute performance it's beautiful and then builds up subtly to this pretty intense moment when he's just bringing up I can't change so kind of metaphorically exemplifies the internal battle that this guy is going through and then I don't know and then being true to the name of the song Free Bird we just go all out dude solos build up speed we just don't make music like that anymore like a change of tempo we don't need to do like key changes in songs anymore as much yeah songs Back in the Day used to be a lot more like Poetic epic Journeys man Alan Collins and Ronnie Van Zandt wrote it Guitar World put this song at number three on its list of 100 greatest guitar solos Lynyrd Skynyrd usually ended their live shows with each song which can go over 14 minutes oh dude that was oh I cannot imagine being there in person dude free bird is a song by the American southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from the band's first debut 1973 release has a single the following year it managed to break the top 49-75 the lyrics take inspiration from Alan Collins girlfriend Kathy and would later be dedicated to Dwayne Allman it contains a famous five-minute guitar solo closing the song Alan Collins had the chords for the beginning pretty part for two full years and we kept asking Ronnie to write something and he kept telling us to forget it he said there were too many courts so he couldn't find a Melody he thought that he had to change with every chord then one day we were at a rehearsal and Alan started playing these chords again and Ronnie said those are pretty play them again he said I got it and wrote the lyrics in three or four minutes the whole damn thing so many of these rock bands like the song was out there they just had to like Discover it it's like they were the instrument in writing it it wasn't them and their genius writing it they like tapped into something and you hear so many stories of this happening it's so the solo isn't hard or overly complex it's just so well like time so well put the song is this transformation of sadness but then like letting go and the guitar solo is that I mean we we also hear the guitar being the bird in the beginning of the performance and whatnot so I wonder if that's why that's part of why that solo feels like so important it's like it just captured that feeling I don't know I'm talking out of my butt here but I'm making sure here your guys's thoughts what makes that solo so epic I would love to hear your thoughts but that's that's that's my thought it's poetry in a guitar solo words don't need to be spoken that solo was great for this feeling just a symbolic of like in this Freedom it's kind of chaotic so then you wonder is is freedom the non-existence of rules or is freedom found within a subset of rules kind of like chess right you can't just move pieces any way you want you are free to do whatever you want within certain parameters definitely not what the song's about I don't I don't know my mind is just going places and I dude that's one of the cool things that's what music does for us it just makes us think dude rock and roll used to be so different it was so important culturally and historically such a powerful instrument in opening people's minds and hearts I'm losing that man or maybe I'm just blind to you today maybe maybe I'm um I'm putting a little too much weight on the heroes of the past but whatever uh wow dude I loved it um have you hung out with me and you're here this whole you were here this whole time with man thank you everybody thank you for hanging out with me and watching this video but no matter what this was the best part about having a channel like this is that it's just fun for me bro and it helps me but
