Lumpy2 FAIL, Giant Spruce, it's big, it's a really big log and it's on the sawmill.

welcome back to Middlefield custom sawmill this log too big to lift I tried I'm gonna try and lift one end on the stump and then put the other end up on the Sawmill we'll see [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] come on [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] here's the problem through the bottom of the stump the log is too far over to that side and it's tipping the stump up and the stump's going to roll over the reason it's over there is because of These Lumps so the question is can I support it some other way [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] but it's up there oh yeah it's up there I don't know if I'm gonna clear I mean there's some stuff you can look down there you can see there's there's chunks of the log that are sticking out right where that upright post is going to come down I'll zoom in in the video and then on this side I'm pretty good I could probably come over a little more here if I wanted saw some of that off the problem is going to be right there it's going to be this thing this big old knot which is you can see sticks way out and this big old nut which sticks way out and the other problem is that's up all the way and I'm already hitting this is higher so my first cut I got to get over this somehow this little Mount Everest or it kind of looks like a thing from Close Encounters so yeah that'll be interesting this one's going to take some chain sawing to make it fit so I think I'll spare you that you've all seen somebody use a chainsaw before I'll try not to cut anything off if I do I'll go back and get it on film you know anything on me not the log obviously I'm gonna chop this right here I'm gonna have to cut some of that off maybe maybe not now that might make it past it won't make it past the blade it won't make it past this roller here but it'll make it past this for the first few Cuts then I can roll it over oh my God I don't want to roll this over this is big this is really really big let's get some Dimensions while I'm here [Music] so this way it's hanging about an inch below the bunk and from the bunk up to the top is three foot a little under three foot so it's about three foot at this end it's uh let me get a length on the other side on this side at the widest come on you stop that at the widest point it's still doing it tape measures never listen to me see see there we go the widest point yeah that's barely gonna fit through the saw at the small end at the big end it's never gonna fit I'm gonna have to do a lot of finagling what I'm planning to do is cut flat on the top and then turn it so that that flat spot is straight on the back right on the other side of this once the flat spot's there I should have 35 inches you know out to the Peaks and I should be able to uh saw it into slats I'm trying to get you an overall length here oh I gotta move this hang on folks so the overall length on this a little over 12 foot 148 inches that's crazy but that'll be some nice big slabs anyone need a kitchen counter with lumps a lumpy kitchen counter that might be interesting all right well I've tipped this thing up four times just trying to get this up on there it's there crazy as this is it's up there all right okay something I didn't count on I was wondering if I got to hit something yeah there's a control box on this side oh and it's hitting this see how far below the bunks These Lumps are sticking yeah you gotta but now here and E.T there so we got it rolled over we have the flat side over here it's not continuously flat but we've got enough of a flat there that it's the right width then around this side because of where we have the log because it's it's too far over this way we have lumps that stick out Beyond where the end of the blade is I don't know if you can see that but the blade ends right about here so we can take a few cuts off the top but this as soon as we get down to here we're gonna have to stop and then roll it over on the flat on what the new top that's flat now roll it over on that and then we can push it over here without these stops up we can bring it out further than the stops and that'll give us enough width to get a 35 inch wide slab so yeah this is going to be fun so we're taking a few cuts off the top just trying to get a nice flat Uncle Ed is filming [Music] [Music] [Music] all right oh that's cool kind of neat yeah there's some cool pieces you get off these somebody can make something come on down two inches but it's really one and seven eighths because the blade takes an eighth [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] flat cut really hard to get a flat cut on this kind of log daylight there not bad that's pretty flat we've been a 16th [Music] [Music] this one is kind of scrap gonna go throw it down on the pile that's the first real slab I'm taking off so this one I'm going to put on there and then I'm going to flip it over and go set it on the thing the mounts that I have for it or it's going to sit and dry all winter that's a big slab bingo all right I'm gonna go put this down on the pile where it's going to dry and I'll be back for another cup [Music] foreign of an inch it goes slower than there's got to be 30 inches wide already [Music] oh gosh this is a big one and it is big foreign I'll get a shot of the wood after I get this one off this is looking pretty cool [Music] and go all right I'm not throwing water on it but here's a shot of the wood I'm gonna have to climb up on this log to do this that's some pretty cool stuff there's curl I mean there's some really cool stuff gotta get a zoom back and get the whole thing in I don't know what that was gonna give you a feel for size here's my foot there you go and this is still the very top of the log I mean I have not cut down even far enough where the skidster can pick it up yet there's Uncle Ed all right how do I get down yeah there's my tarp I'm going to tarp this for the night but yeah you can see this is still a big log I mean I've taken maybe maybe 25 percent off so I'm gonna show you from this end as you can see there's the back there's the end there's the center I didn't even try and level the pith on this it's just getting it on the saw so it fit was enough all right we are going to tarp this and finish it tomorrow or then well the next day is the Paul Bunyan show so tomorrow or Sunday we'll see how it goes so we got it tarped up I don't care if the wood gets wet but the Sawmill at least the engine will stay dry it is tied on this side I threw some wood on it to hold it down so let's see if that keeps it dry I gotta take all these straps in with me so here's the uh the three slabs we took off so far and see this is some cool wood this is some cool wood those are such tight tiny little rings it just looks like little Bull's eyes all over it look at that chipmunk there's the top half of this lumpy log right there oh that's it for today I'll be back tomorrow with some more so till then have
