LS9 Powered Barrett Cup Winning '62 Bel Air Bubble Top Built by Cal Auto/Andy Leach

[Music] so [Music] hey guys what's up it's shawn autotopia la today we're back here at the matranga collection with kent and his just astounding bubble top also built by andy leach who did your cuda right it was at the barrett-jackson cup in 2015. that's where i first saw the car i was up there with my 66 chevelle right and uh got to know andy leech and then this car came out up for auction shortly after the barrett-jackson cup the 62 is it 62 uh bel air bubble top yeah this is one i would love to walk around and because there's a lot of metal work done sheriff's car isn't there yeah we can start right here on the front you can see the the grille and the headlight bezels and all that is custom made andy and his team so this one's got an art morrison chassis underneath it other than this little wing he put on to the tail of it it the rest of the body's pretty well stocked he messed with the wheel wells a little bit messed with the rockers but it's things that most people don't even notice other than this rear spoiler that was added that's that's one thing that everybody points to it's it's just such a subtle beautiful change to the body though sitting on coilovers the billet specialty wheels they painted them to make them look custom but they're basically a billet specialty grinder wheel okay so it's something people could actually go buy that one yeah nothing custom yeah all right let's go look at some of the freak show under the hood here ls9 uh crate motor supercharged makes about 648 horsepower you know so this would have been in the one of the corvettes from the day right back in 2014 2015. yeah obviously they did the you know custom inner fender panels they got the corvette power booster with bear brake setup on it so we got oil in this one over here so it's a dry sump this motor is a dry sump motor and then the other one is the coolant for the uh uh intercooler what what is it uh transmission wood what does it say so it's got the bowler uh uh prepped uh tremec uh six-speed transmission interior was done by uh tracy weaver the recovery room back in uh nebraska now that's is that a custom handle or is that it is it is yeah custom handle replicates kind of the original got rid of the keyhole um that's uh would have normally been there and uh yeah it's one of his signature things he did the same thing on the cuda so yeah tracy did the interior recovery room they do a nice nice job on the on the interior boy i'll say god it's just like jewelry everywhere and it all it all matches like across the car huh yeah i think that the tom atomic machine did a bunch of the machine work for andy on this uh on this car because this stuff's all one-off right yeah it's all custom stuff the handles the gauge bezels the shifter bezel kind of cool how it uh you keep the bench but you almost get the feeling of an individual bucket yeah wow is this just stunning in here man what do you know what this color is or what it's from it's actually a honda color yeah it's a honda it's a base honda color i can't remember the name unbelievable so the way the way the trunk opens is you actually spin the lens on this tail light really oh come on well man let's let's uh let's do the fun part let's let's put the cameras in and go for go for a little drive around the hood i think you'll like it cool i can only imagine [Music] [Music] i love that it's a manual the pride's really nice but it but it handles pretty well also oh yeah yeah it's set up it's it's been through the autocross course at good guys a number of times it's uh with the art morse and chassis and all the front end geometry it it it drives really good nice sound though it's not it's not it's far from aggressive [Music] [Music] [Music] truly truly an exceptional work of art that rolls around and drives here's a few more cars that are on this caliber as we say goodbye and thanks for hanging and watching what we do we'll see you in the next one [Music] later [Music] thank you you
