good evening everyone and welcome to week five of the high school football season we are live pa sports live powered by web weekly from beautiful memorial stadium tonight pobo alongside the coach rich salonis mark mussina will join us later up in the booth coach it's a rivalry game i know you're no stranger to rivalry games tell us what this one means well this is big this is as big as any around the area between the battle for the bridge sauk and montour goes back way back there's a lot of pride at stake a lot of tradition in both of these football programs both of the athletic programs for that fact but uh anytime you play this game throw the records out throw what everybody thinks should happen happens and it's just it's gonna it's gonna be a good football game tonight yeah i mean it should be a really good game two programs probably very evenly matched this year montoursville comes in at two and two limping a little bit last week got kind of manham handled excuse me by the red tornadoes of mount carmel but it's a rivalry game the records are out the window loyal sock comes in with a three-in-one record their only blemish to the university of southern columbia so everybody goes down to them sooner or later but hey they had a big win last weekend against danville at home let's talk a little bit about the warriors they're led by senior quarterback maddox delano we saw him last year really really big kid really strong arm four four touchdowns on the year along with four interceptions yeah big strong athletic young man well seasoned as you say and uh he he should be able to run the offense tonight well for coach bowden and and when you've played as much as he has now it's just i hate to say like autopilot but you should have a good grasp of the system and he certainly does and hey he's got some weapons now he does and we'll talk about one weapon he has out of the backfield rocco polizzi number six he is a senior leads district four in touchdowns with nine has sex 614 yards rushing on 78 carries that's seven yards of carry by my hazelton math coach and i'll tell you what he's one of the best in the area he is he's he's he's one of the premier backs in this part of the state obviously was hurt last year and it's great to see that the young man's bounce back and is having a tremendous season so far well when delano drops back to pass he'll have number one isaiah fenner we saw him really come out last year in that playoff game against loyal shot this year six receptions for a buck 39 a touchdown on the other side we got marco polozzi polizzi five receptions for 80 yards so they got two really formidable wide receivers as weapons for delana and you know you look back through the history and tradition of this program they've never been at a loss for for uh skill position players and it's no different this year they've also got that kowski that could come out of the backfield or possibly play a slot so coach bowden has has a lot of options tonight it will be interesting to see how he chooses to attack the lancer defense well let's go across the bridge now to loyal sock tyler g hurt he's out nate bauman we thought he would start the year but he came in as a backup last year we came in two of three 39 yards threw a touchdown he gets to start tonight his very first start is quarterback for the lancers boy can't ask for any more than that if you're that young man but you know i think that a lot of the jitters and things that you might expect from a quote backup won't be happening tonight he played fairly well in the time that he had last week against danville uh the problem is when you look at tyler g so far through four games you're losing over 800 yards of total offense and that has to you know that that can't get made up in one night but the good news is sox got some weapons of their own how they doing they got davion hill in the backfield bishop newman student the royal sock co-op newman does not have a football team hey how nice is it to get javal wheat schuler davey on hill and naz smith from over there to play for loyal stock there but daveon fantastic athlete we saw him on the basketball court 552 yards six touchdowns he can catch the ball out of the backfield coach we saw him on opening night he wasn't 100 and still had over 100 yards rushing yeah he could tell that he was he was holding back a little bit i don't know if he if he was injured a little bit but saw him on tape last week and boy he was packed to his usual self a combination of size and speed he's put on about 15 or 20 pounds from last year and he he runs he runs every bit as hard as anybody in this area well it should make bauman's transition a lot easier he also has the district 4 wide leading receiver ryan glunk 24 receptions for just the shade under 400 yards five touchdowns three of them came last week very athletic young man always seems to be able to come down with the football wherever it is i mean we've watched him now for two years make receptions when we didn't think when the ball was in the air or reception could be made a very seasoned wide receiver you watch a lot of these wide receivers they're not going to come back to their quarterback and help them out ryan glunk will come back to the ball you see him running the routes like you know like he's been playing for five years correct coach real quick we're going to wrap this up your keys to the game well montoursville has to play better defense we talked to coach bowden you know you look at the score last week 21-7 you might think they had offensive problems they didn't they couldn't get off the field defensively matt carmel kept the ball the whole game so early in the week we talked to coach about and on touchdowns and tailgates he mentioned that their defense has to come out and play tonight and give the offense a chance if you're a loyal sock you've got to take it as it comes tonight can't turn the ball over and with the starting quarterback even though he's talented you've got to lean on that running game i think it's going to come down to the offensive line for loyal shock tonight and how well they perform all right well to be mason winslow it's winslow winslow kick it he changed numbers again i had him at 82 but he's five here on your stat sheet and it is this is glunk fielded by clunk at the 10. across the 15 gets to the outside to the 20 and he'll be pushed down right around the 24 yard line and that's where nate bauman will make his first stop start for the lancers at their own 23-yard line we are set to get underway will be first off from their own 22-yard line as you just mentioned bauman playing is first star co um the start with high ankle sprain so batman finished off last game and this is first start it's a tough certainly a tough place to get thrown into in the bridge game and torso's got a couple breaks uh they got when connor watkins was a senior he broke his collarbone like a week before montoursville played loyal stock that year too so in this rivalry when towards those run into a couple backups double tight end set here bowing from the pistol he's gonna hand it off the hill nothing doing might have lost the yard nate fischer on the stop sophomore defensive end he has really emerged onto the scene he wasn't a starter when the season started but torso's got youth all over the defensive side of the ball they got some really young defensive ends and fishers come on well it's going to be they're going to call it back to the line of scrimmage going to be second and 10 ball at the 22-yard line just underway here 11 32 to go in the first quarter bauman's going to hand it off the hill again running right and right into the heart of that defense [Applause] conklin conklin's in the middle of the pile warner's in the middle of pyle this it's an interesting matchup because obviously both teams are both teams ran into a team that they thought they were going to have trouble beating when tours were lost to mount carmel loyal stock lost to southern and they both had a really evenly matched game when toursville lost the jersey shore in overtime and uh and loyal stock took care of business against danville so you know three and one looks a lot different than two and two but these are two very evenly matched teams third and nine bowling back to pass throws and he was going for weak schuler good defense on the play by isaiah fenner there and loyal sucks gonna punt three and out coach it was interesting they had glunk and andrews were on the other side they were both left and they went away from glunk and andrews in a quick three and out if you end up kicking i didn't see if the tours will won the toss or not but if you end up kicking to start the game you want to start three and out and loyal stock went nowhere and that was a they start them in the towards what defense is looking for fender and reader back deep forward warriors about their 45 yard line host of lancers led by davion hill they're on the tackle brought down by number one david hill that's a gain of five on the play i mean that ends up just being a long running play i mean toursville just trying to mix it up first place sqweep second play uh as ron insinger shows up are you here in any official capacity or no no oh yeah i'm sure you are elena back to pass looks fires over the middle got it felicia at the 30. inside to the 29 down to the 28-yard line of the lancers another first down for the warriors delena put that one right on the numbers coach yes soft zone and he put the ball right on the money montourzo looks extremely sharp tonight so far wait i'll tell you my first my first run in singer broadcast story here after this play this is true this is a true story run into someone they said they're district champions they have four starters back and i was like oh thanks ron so for a month i'm telling people loyal suck sucks and then they win the district title playing way way too far off the football and max is just picking them apart with timing throws that's certainly something they saw in film that if that's how loyal side's going to play it we're going to come out and exploit it until the lancers adjust and here we are in four down territory fourth and or third and five at the 24th so the tours have got two plays get five yards they're going to go four wide this time delaney rolling to his right still rolling throwing fires passes cut by polizzi into 15 skips out of balance at the lancer 14 and it'll be another first down same thing again over on glunk's side they're they're given a lot of cushion and i don't know if you want to do that against an experienced quarterback that's got some weapons he's picking him apart four for four on this drive what we talked about coming in that this is a perfect matchup you know skill versus skill montoursville and loyal stock both knew their strength coming in was their skill positions and the the line and the you know the front seven was going to have to develop as the year goes along so these are almost mirror images of each other oh nice quick slant right there to palizzi and he is down to the five yard line and that'll be another first down stop by number one yes this certainly isn't the montorso team that showed up last week at mount carmel that's for sure ran a little misdirection with batowski and came back the other way and hitting polizzi on that quick slant lizzie kind of hobbled off here marco is huge on defense and he kind of got ankle rolled a little bit as he's limping on the sideline we'll see if that comes into play first and goal at the five yard line backs in an eye handoff polizzi down to about the three-yard line tackled by 43. gavin rice excuse me gavin rice kevin had a good game in opening night when we had him sox 3 linebackers are pretty active so far this season they've they've piled up the uh tackles and that's what you should do in a 4-3 7-19 to go first quarter montoursville's first drive loyal sock three and out montours will now knock it on the door and the torso just stays with one tight end they've got two wide stay in the eye blizzy again straight ahead stretching for that stripe and he is in for the touchdown no signal yet he has to be here he's thrusting on he's in for the score i'll tell you what coach impressive drive there by fallon a little screen pass to naz smith cuts it back against the grain and he is tripped up and he's going to lose four fish here again well my torso's backside defense did a good job of staying disciplined and staying home so when nas tried to bring that all the way back against the grain they were waiting for him good discipline second down and 14. ball back at the 32-yard line it seemed like he had no blockers on that bubble it was just him against the world i don't know if something happened on the design there three wide for the lancers in motion is schuler bauman back to pass steps up wants it all throws downfield for naz smith and just overshot him fenner on the coverage there was with him step for step it looked like he had leverage and it looked to me like he lit up a little bit towards the end it's almost like he didn't see the ball yeah he bombed through that well and i think he got fenner spun a little bit the lancers had a shot there at a big one just missed it and marco limps off here on third down this could be a problem so now they buckowski and blackwell in the secondary readers bounced over to corner four wide for the lancers baumann back to pass looking once clunked down the sidelines throws and just ran out of real estate there good defense by reader as he ran him out to the boundary listen i don't know whether it's nerves or what it is but he's had time to throw every time he's throwing the ball he hasn't been pressured so apparently sock is going to play long ball tonight because that's what that's what they've thrown when we saw them earlier they ran a lot of what montour's will ran the first series looking patterns timing etc yeah a lot of dink and dunks um the first game when we did see them there reader back deep along with patient runner he gets that hole so quick picks his spots and just slithers through them he is he's so big and strong and fast that hit the other attributes he's very good vision in traffic and uh you kind of don't appreciate the other attributes because you just figure he's big you know he seems very herschel walker-ish lena throws past complete that is fenner 45-50 down to the 44-yard line of the not even 10 minutes into the game yet sooner or later the lancers have to come up and press a little bit more yeah and delena's had all day to throw back there also even when he went straight back third down second down and 13 ball back to the 36. elena looks under pressure throws out of the backfield and that is complete that's mikowski on the backfield that's an ad lib because mikowski's not even in the pattern but i i didn't see who was on it was they're looking for marco on the slant it was probably davion is davion on the field whoever had marco pressed him hard and marco wasn't open so maddox had to go backside james was just the fake who was just kind of carrying out his fake and then he just doesn't do anything but um you know maddox came back to him and got a completion and they end up picking up eight yards that they shouldn't have got third and manageable third and four now 3 14 to go four wide for the warriors delana back to pass throws passes cut that is fenner at the 20. sidesteps inside to 15 down to about the 12 yard line another pass right on the money wide receiver wide open loyal sox linebackers are playing in the box their outside backer can't get to the drop spot and they're playing a soft zone behind it they're literally just you know taking candy from a baby i hate to use cliches but he's not it's a game of pitch and catch right now and he's wide open on every play first down and 10 ball at the 13. they can get another first before scoring and they have a slant up top if they want it here anna polizzi straight ahead burrows his way down to about the 10 yard line and rocco's world has been different this year it's not i mean he used to be a track meet he was leading the state in rushing last year when he got hurt now it's you get a lot of that he'll get minus one plus two he'll get five or six and then he'll get 80. so that's what the lancers are trying to avoid giving up the big play and when torso is kind of hoping that he takes enough swings that one of these he's going to hit the upper deck yeah and for the most part they kept him pretty well in check this first quarter he hasn't touched the ball much now delano rolling out rolling still rolling incomplete pass intended down by the goal line yeah it was defended much better that time by logan bastian that's one of the linebackers we talked about earlier having to get up and play in coverage and first time tonight that maddox faced some pressure he was looking for braden brown i think he had brownie a little early but i think he was looking for remy on the drag and there just didn't seem to have enough spacing and it ends up third down so now mentors was in the position it's third and seven you're certainly in field goal range but your first kick got blocked so if you don't get this do you end up kicking the short field or do you go on fourth and short delano back to pass straight drop looks fires over the middle into the end zone and defended by naz smith i think you got to kick it i think you've got to kick it for number falls three it'll be fourth down and here comes the field goal unit on the field looks like fenner's going to kick this one [Applause] nope he's coming back off the field fender was 11 for 14 on extra points but he's going let's see they might now fender is going to kick it they just handed him the block well they've got a second changes their offense a little bit the lancer offense is coming on the field let's see the call here as the officials are gathered far side of the field about the 10 yard line i guess it would depend if it's a dead ball or if it's a continuing action because if it's if it's during the play they have to decline it if it's if it's dead ball they're going to walk this off lancers with a 15-yard break here it's gonna be a dead ball personal foul against montoursville well that's not the the the guy signaled unsportsmanlike the referee then signaled personal foul so i don't i don't know i don't know what happened but either way a good stand for the lancers as they uh they needed that as mature drives all the way to the red zone comes up empty now on offense the lancers trying to get their first first down i think they have negative yardage so far there's davion left and nothing number one conklin in the pile is that brownie in the pile second down and nine ball at the 26 yard line one minute 31 seconds to go clock running first quarter dominated by the warriors but only leading six nothing four wide for the lancers [Applause] falmouth pulls it up and he's gonna take off on that option reed and he got about six on that plate yeah they're going to mark them out early they got him at the 31. they're stepping out on the 31 big third down for loyal saga they haven't been on the field offensively and as was stated earlier i don't believe they have a first down yet tonight no they do not two three and outs excuse me coach third down and four ball at the 31. first down just i mean they only got it by a foot but just to take a breath and to get a little success it's really really hard to get a rhythm going if you're playing three plays at a time you got to get a drive together to get to get your lines settled in to get your backs under you know with their just to get a little sweat going and get a little confident so a really big play from nas to make a guy miss and get the first down first down in ten last minute a quarter handoff davion hill right up the middle taking tacklers with him about seven yards on first down his best run of the evening that was designed to go off tackle he put his foot in the ground and took it right up into the a-gap great vision that was good run he uh you always because he's such a good basketball player and he's so athletically he's a tackle to tackle runner like he's not afraid to go in in traffic and and like coach just said he he adjusted that put his foot in the ground and went right up the field and he got six on a play that he shouldn't have got six so um so that was a kind of a quick quarter don't you think yeah they're gonna let the quarter run out here and we're going to take a quick break one his name a lot second down and four it's going to be 10 yard penalty from the spot and it's even more disturbing to a coach when the hold is not necessary the play was going all the way away from the backside guarder tackle and that's who they got because there was nothing front side marco polizzi with his helmet off here on the sideline so it's hard for mentorsville to complain that they just lost their best corner when loyal stocks playing with their backup quarterback but not the uh their best cover corner now is a spectator pass to schuler has it at the 28 up to the 30. another hole first quarter dominate time for possession didn't score from the five yard line and loyal stock thing in the second quarter sock had a 19 play drive they took almost nine minutes and didn't score but they got the big play to for malmo and the glonk and the extra points the difference in the game right now but you know this is where i thought we'd be you know somebody really close and potentially going down to the wire yeah i mean i mean bauman in his first start i'm really impressed with his arm strength he really could throw the ball in two the big catch on that on the drive that kept going and nas smith stretched across the 25-yard line got that first down to keep that long drive going because that would have been three three and outs in a row turn her game around even though he didn't score on that long drive it got their defense off the field for a while and it seemed like as the first half was ending took over this ball game they started to yeah and you know the offense was moving the ball now like you said with bauman he converted two fourth down throws on that on that drive uh and you know he threw a dime to ryan glonk on the 70-yard bomb uh so yeah i think his confidence i think he's settled in now i think there's probably naturally some jitters for him starting for the first time and starting against montoursville but yeah they settled in and they adjusted well on defense maddox delano was 10 for 10 eight minutes into the game and they haven't let him complete a pass since then so wow yeah i think sock has really settled in and and taking over but at the same time they're only up by a point and montoursville gets the ball to start the second half so it's it's anybody's game right now and another big play i think in the first half they they had fenner on a post pattern across the middle of the field and maddox drew it behind him if he catches that ball he had leverage on on the linebacker that was covering him that was a touchdown that was a 70 yard touchdown if they could have connected on that one but what else do you got for stature what do you got for bauman uh balman he's i know he's he's eight for his last nine he's nine for 13 overall with 143 yards and uh ryan glunk's got two catches he's over 100 yards for a second straight week so smooth yeah uh montoursville's doing a great job on daveon hill they've held them to 24 yards on 11 carries they're really gang tackling well from on tour as well i mentioned maddox delano uh he's 10 for 17 for 106. rocco polizzi he had he had the one big run at the end of the half there he's 11 for 63 right now but you know why take away that yeah you take away that 36 yard run there and they've done a really good job on him but i liked montoursville's game plan coming out loyal sock was giving them those receivers big cushions they took advantage of it and uh i thought that was going to open up some lanes for polizzi but but they were able to keep it a one score game and and here we are it's a game of adjustments we'll see who makes the better ones in the second half yeah i mean it should come down to the wire as we both i hope so that's really really well played i've got two run for polizzi five-yard penalty back to the 39-yard line and it'll be first in 15. well it has certainly been not the cleanest played first three and a half minutes here in the third quarter penalty filled both teams uh benefiting from the other's mistakes and when tours will now fender in motion there's a pitch wide again to polizzi sauk strings it out number six rocco 15 on the tackle for loyal missed tackles by the lancers they had their heads down and polizzi made him pay for it which good running backs do a little right hand dribble you want to keep it away from the defense i don't know why that's a lucky bounce that's good ball handling that was he could have gone through his legs and around the back and it'll be first and goal now down at the four yard line 7-eleven to go we talk about a game of long drives and long possessions well izzy rocco's not in the game this is blackwell blackwell now checks in the tailback and a handoff to blackwell and he's in for the touchdown let's very well so we'll see how the lancers respond and and what's frustrating there's been a lot of frustration on both coaching sides from the mistakes that have been made but there they'd forced mentorsville ends up with now a uh five plus minute drive and uh and the lead back game of momentum here definitely tonight here first quarter all montoursville second quarter loyal stock stayed at their case and now the third quarter starts off montoursville taking the lead one of the things to watch with socks upcoming possession here and the rest of this game is to see how they're going to try and exploit polizzi being off the field defensively see if they go right at it and now rocco's over here on the bench i i'm hoping he's just gassed he looks okay but when tours will happen they have another senior like dylan blackwell who can just come in and we've seen brown play last year running back also for them kick by winslow is fielded by that is glunk picks it up at the goal line across the 10 and oh he is hammered at the 16 yard line by number 10 that's rem schneider on the tackle you do not want to drop it inside the five that is a not that i was ever allowed to return kicks but that must be a scary feeling that was a bomb he really nailed him there and littlestock will start from their 16-yard line and again blackwell is in on defense because polizzi's out so they got us into it i think it should be maddox without a doubt i thought he played a very smart football game numerous times put the ball on the money and pundit the ball extremely well tonight which turned don't know if i've ever seen a high school kid punt as well as he punted today and he threw some balls that you know high school kids just aren't supposed to be able to do but this is a huge win for mentors coming off to a game they kind of feel like they gave away at jersey shore and then to just get manhandled last week in mount carmel and then coming up with danville uh who they know is good so you know it's not often that mentorsville stares at a four-game losing streak in in high school football but if they didn't come out with the win tonight um it would have been it would have been some uncharted waters for this program and this a really really big win for them so both teams walk out of here three and two heading into the second half and uh you know they are destined for a rematch here in the postseason well i'll tell you what and and a huge play in the game was that laser beam that delana threw to isaiah fenner in between two defenders like you said you thought he should put a little more air under it but it was an absolute bullet down to about the two yard line put montoursville in the lead the next play to the touchdown run for to stay and like i said that really and that was a third and longer second and long on that play and they just broke down for for loyal sock and like i said second half of the season coming up we could very well see these teams playing each other again in postseason action and nice on the field now the student section is out there with the players celebrating and rivalry games and like coach said that we went off the air it was a clean game which is always nice to see and speaking of quarterbacks i know they get you know way too much credit but but nathan bauman played a great game yes for a kid who is making his first start i know he got a little bit of action last week um after the injury but uh i thought bauman was great um obviously glunk had big numbers coming in so his numbers are not a surprise i thought davian played a very physical game but um i was really really impressed with the sophomore quarterback from loyals is a tough it's a tough place to make your first start on the road in the bridge rivalry and i thought he was super all right well that'll just about wrap it up from here next week we will be in williamsport is the schedule when the mountaineers of dallas come in to williamsport
