[Music] hey guys richard holder today it's the loba gt45 versus the world in this video we're going to compare our low buck ebay gt45 turbo you know the 163 turbo we got from dna that we run on almost everything we're going to compare this turbo to no less than five different turbos on our 4.8 liter ls we have a 62 millimeter from precision we have a 76 millimeter from cx racing we have a 7875 gen 2 from vs racing we have a 75 82 from forge performance and an s475 t6 from summit racing we ran these at four different boost levels we measured boost pressure back pressure charge temperature and we had an electronic wastegate controller so how did the little ebay gt45 turbo compare to all these others let's find out [Music] good thing started we installed the gt45 on our 4.8 liter it was a stock block stock crank gen 4 rods and forged jd pistons 706 heads a jfr cam i'll go ahead and put the specs up here in a stock truck intake and throttle body we installed the turbo with a pro charger air and water air cooler and our turbo kit featured stock truck manifolds feeding a white pipe and two turbosmart wastegates we ran the tc1 electronic boost controller to the two wastegates so we control boost run first at around seven pounds uh 593 horsepower with the gt45 turtle and 557 foot pounds of torque and let's see what happened as we go up and boost here this is another two pounds 630 horsepower 589 foot pounds of torque another two pounds 658 horsepower 614 foot-pounds of torque and then our final run was with another two pounds of boost 691 horsepower and 653 foot-pounds of torque and as we would expect going up in boost we saw kind of railroad tracks as the boost went up the power went up but as we'll see from this gt45 it had fairly high back pressure at about 13 pounds of boost it was showing 18.7 pounds of back pressure so you can see the relationship between those two and we didn't quite get the gains that we thought we would but let's take a look and see how the ct-45 compares to the other turbos so next up was a 62 millimeter from precision and i will go ahead and make sure just as i did with the gt45 to put all of the turbo specs that i have on each of the turbos up so you guys can kind of compare them run with the 62 millimeter precision turbo at the same uh boost setting on our tc1 turbo controller it produced 569 570 horsepower and 545 foot-pounds of torque and just as we did with the gt45 we went up and boost and then we went up and boost again unlike the gt45 or the other turbos we did this on one other one the this thing ended up making 636 horsepower [Music] and 593 foot-pounds of torque and that was at 11 pounds of boost so we didn't go any higher than this because the back pressure started getting fairly high even at 11 pounds of boost and that was actually dropping toward the end we saw um almost 19 pounds of back pressure on this little 62 millimeter it's not really size for this 4.8 liter but since i had it laying around we wanted to try it so let's compare that and we can compare that to the top one to the same boost level with the gt45 and you can see the gt45 in green here compared to the red those are at the same boost levels with the two turbos the little 62 millimeter versus the gt45 the 62 made 635 and the gt45 made 658 both at the same boost levels and the 62 millimeter obviously had higher back pressure than the gt45 did so now let's take a look at the 76 millimeter from cx racing [Music] next up was a t76 from cx racing and i like the others i'll go ahead and put the specs up here so you guys can take a look at them and just like with a smaller 62 millimeter we didn't run the boost all the way up to four stages we only ran three just like we did with the 62 millimeter and we did that because of very high back pressure the thing just did not sound happy at all and really wasn't making power anywhere near what the other turbos did so run at seven pounds this 76 millimeter produced 554 horsepower 531 foot pounds of torque and we went up adjusting our tc1 you know boost controller here's what happened when we up the boost 585 horsepower 569 foot-pounds of torque and here is was the final run you can see it's it's starting to get a little bit unhappy but it only made 605 horsepower and 585 foot pounds of torque now it's important to note that the back pressure measured at just 11 pounds or at the 11 pound rating on the turbo controller was almost 20 pounds almost 20 pounds of back pressure and actually if you compare the two the back pressure at 19.8 pounds was only at 9.4 pounds of boost out at the top because the highest back pressure reading is at the top of the rpm range and even with an electronic controller because of the high back pressure we were not able to get this thing to have a flat boost curve at 11 pounds so let's compare this combination it's obviously the turbo is obviously sized incorrectly especially on the hot side to try to make good power on this combination but if we compare this at the same boost level you can see the the gt45 in blue made a lot more power than the 76 millimeter made 658 at this boost level versus 605 and the difference between them would be even worse as we try to go up even farther in boost so you know for this kind of power output that's that 76 millimeter even though the the cold side is bigger than the gt45 is the hot side is really limiting that t76 so let's take a look at our next [Music] turbo [Music] next up was the turbo from force performance it was a 78 75 and like the others we'll go ahead and put the specs up here you guys can take a look at that so run at seven pounds on our boost controller the force performance turbo did good produced 607 horsepower and 569 foot-pounds of torque and here's what happened after we increased the boost pressure on that using our controller so easy with the controller just turn the knob and raise the boost up it's kind of nice this thing produced 650 horsepower and 509 foot pounds of torque that's what two more pounds of boost here's another two pounds of boost we went up again to 672 horsepower and 628 foot pounds and here's our final run with another couple pounds 714 horsepower and 660 foot pounds of torque and with the bigger exhaust on the forced performance turbo it only had 15.7 pounds of peak back pressure at the highest boost reading of 13 pounds so it it barely had more back pressure than it had boost pressure and the crossover point and i'll show you one of these coming up in another video the crossover point was very high on that so it did very well it had a good flowing exhaust and the power outputs obviously showed that so if we compare this to the highest power output or the highest boost level with the gt45 the gt45 is in red it produced 690 horsepower to 716 horsepower for the force performance turbo so at the same boost level the force performance turbo was making more power it had lower back pressure so now let's compare this to the vs racing 7875 [Music] next up on the turbo list was a 7875 gen 2 turbo from vs racing again i'll put the specs up here so you guys can take a look at that run with our controller set at seven pounds the vs racing turbo produced 614 horsepower and 574 foot pounds of torque and it's important to note all of these have the same air fuel ratio and all of them had the same timing curve so nothing was changed for those we made sure to try to optimize both well we didn't optimize them we made them the same for all of these combinations so let's take a look and see here's what happened when we went up and boost on the vs racing turbo it picked up power again 645 horsepower and 600 foot-pounds of torque here's our next jump two more pounds of boost 679 horsepower foot pounds of torque and then our final run with the vs racing turbo 13 pounds 720 horsepower and 672 foot pounds and as we saw in a comparison with the gt45 turbo at the highest boost level the purple and the red it just was the the vs racing turbo just made more power it only had 14.6 pounds of back pressure at 13 pounds of boost so it just barely had more back pressure than it had boost pressure if you compare the purple and the red the vs racing turbo made more power everywhere at the same boost level compared to the gt45 now let's take a look at our final turbo it is a t6 s4 75 from summit racing [Music] next up was the summit racing it was an s475 t6 hot side so go ahead and put the specs up here for this turbo as well and the interesting thing about the summit turbo was the obviously it had a t6 where the others were all t4 it made the most power but it also because of the t6 hot side it only had 13 pounds of back pressure at 13 pounds of boost it only reached one to one out at the very top of the rpm range but it also had uh it was kind of the least responsive of the group as well so equipped at seven pounds it produced 633 horsepower and 592 foot-pounds of torque and here's what happened as we went up and boost horsepower 625 foot-pounds of torque the next jump brought to 707 horsepower and 667 foot pounds of torque and then the final run at the highest boost level of 13 pounds produced 751 horsepower and 701 foot pounds of torque what i want you to take a look at is the red graph here and especially down here at the 3000 to 3500 and going almost all the way up to 4000 now the other runs you can see had a little bit better response and what we did was because this was a t6 um it was a lot softer down low than the others were so the longer that you hold the throttle open um before you uh release the dyno the more the turbo will spool up it's kind of power breaking it basically on the line so we can do that on the dyno and i wanted to show you what happens when we do that and the other three runs were held at wide open throttle before we released it for a fair bit of time to give the thing time to spool up but when we didn't do that you see the red here it's a lot softer down low and if we just rolled into it and released it it would be even softer still so on this t6 turbo if you're planning on putting it on a 4-8 i think you should go to a smaller hot side and and have it be more responsive it makes good power it has very low back pressure obviously the thing's capable of doing a thousand horsepower but it's also size maybe for a larger six liter or certainly would work better on a 5.3 liter so know that going in on the t6 let's get to our conclusion actually i jumped the gun before we get to our conclusion let's take a look a little bit about the boost pressure and back pressure curves now i know this looks a little jagged and actually the boost pressure didn't do that on the dyno that's the sensor going bad when we look at the data logging on the holley the boost curve is actually fairly consistent it's sloping down like this because we have a rising back pressure curve and unfortunately we could cure that by putting more spring rate in there we have seven pound springs in the gates we have our electronic boost controller we have lines going both to the top and bottom of the gate but we wanted to start at seven pounds and go up to about 13 pounds not sure we could start at 15 pounds and go up to 20 or 25 or pin the gate like everybody wants us to but i just wanted to demonstrate what the differences of the power was on these different turbos at these different boost levels and more spring rate would cure it but it would make us have to start at a much higher rate but here's what happened and all i want to do is show you if you take a look this thing is making the gt45 is making less back pressure than boost pressure at the start at the load in and it is until about 4 500 rpm that starts making more back pressure and as you can see out at the top it's about at this low boost level this is just at seven pounds it's about 12.4 so what i want to do is i'm going to show you if we if we can compare this i'm going to get rid of the the boost so we just have back pressure because otherwise it gets pretty busy so this is the gt45 here is the 76 millimeter turbo at the same boost level you can see the back pressure is a lot higher on the 76 millimeter now if we go to the summit turbo which had the least the lowest back pressure of any of these we can see down here in blue so that the blue is the summit the black is the gt45 and the red is the 76 millimeter that had the highest back pressure the others were kind of in the middle there this is the biggest range so you can kind of see that but i just wanted to show you the back pressure curves and this might help explain why that there's a difference in the power outputs of these different combinations now we can get to our conclusion okay guys what's our takeaway from the test with our ebay gt45 turbo against the five other turbos couple things first off the ebay gt45 turbo we got from dna and it's available a lot of different sources works it does provide boost if you put that turbo on your junkyard ls or other combination it will make boost it will make power they work we know we've run it on a lot of stuff but the other turbos made more power basically at the same boost so my question to you is why is that go ahead let me know in the comments but here's something to look at when we ran the cx racing 76 millimeter turbo which has a bigger compressor housing than the gt45 does certainly a bigger wheel and stuff it made the least amount of power also it had the highest back pressure so the highest back pressure made the least amount of power what i would like to see is a marriage a hybrid between the gt45 and that cx racing 76 millimeter i'd like to see the 76 millimeter compressor with the turbine and hot side from the gt45 i think that would be a good marriage and allow it to make even more power but as we see the more expensive and bigger turbos not only make more peak power because they obviously they offer more flow but they even made more power at the same boost level which to me was a little surprising i'm sure holder guys thanks for watching make sure to like share subscribe ring the bell do all that stuff more tested coming up
