I know nobody is asking me, but I want to give my two cents on LOST. It was my favorite show until I watched BrBa, and I just want to explain why I love it even without all the questions being answered.
LOST is heavily influenced by Stephen King. Once I started reading his work, LOST made more sense to me. In several of the novels I read, there would exist mysterious/supernatural elements that you just had to take as part of the lore of the story, that you would never get an explanation for. I feel like accepting the lore without requiring answers for literally everything makes for a more satisfying experience.
Also, if every single mystery were to be explained, there would be no fun in trying to theorize for yourself what may have taken place. Yes - I really wanted to see where all the Egyptian lore originated on the island. But I'm not going to say I didn't like the show because it was never clarified. The scene where Hurley is asking Michael about what the Whispers are in the last season was pretty cringeworthy, and I'd have preferred they just didn't answer that particular question.
One last thing that always bothers me is when people talk about how the show ended.
SPOILERS (obviously)
I've heard from so many people that are adamant that LOST is bad because people "figured out the ending in season 1 and the show runners denied it, but it turned out to be true."
THE ISLAND WAS NOT PURGATORY. The only part of the show that was purgatory/limbo was the alternate storyline that played throughout the last season. NOT the whole show. Just what took place after the time split caused by The Incident.
Now, it can't be debated that at times Lindelof and Cuse were just making it up as they went along. Sure they were. The issue was that around Season 3, the show runners weren't being given an end date for the show, so they were treading water until they were told how many episodes were left. This is where we got disasters like Nikki and Paulo (ugh) and Jack's Tattoo episode (even ugher).
The show was not without its problems, but I for one enjoyed the journey and it blew my mind and made me feel something emotional many, many times. The amount of speculation alone is something that I haven't experienced with any other show, and it will always have a special place in my heart for its awesome characterization and moving storytelling.
Sorry for the rant, it's just a topic I'm passionate about and I haven't been able to vent about this for several years.
it's like 24 but without answers
This edit is a thing of beauty.
Can someone give me like a spark notes of what this show is about? I've heard it was good but I've never felt compelled to watch it.
I want to watch all of Lost synced up like this
This is great! I knew that I didn't recognize a couple of scenes and in the credits they list "missing pieces". I guess there are some deleted scenes I haven't seen.
