20 places to see in Italy We have seen a basic itinerary for Italy visiting some cities. Today we are going to see 20 impressive places in Italy in a random order, they can help you if you are putting together your tour, get to know them through these images, or remember them if you have already visited them. Italy has hundreds of wonderful places so the list will be random and obviously more places will be missing. But quick to start! Welcome travel companions to the 20 places in Italy that deserve to be on an itinerary, a badge will come after the 20th, leave me in the comments if you know that place. Amalfi Coast We will start with the Amalfi Coast and one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world. From the south of Naples to Vietri sul Mare, villages hanging from the hillside and overlooking the sea embellish this area. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, this Coast is an essential part of a visit to Italy. We can highlight here places like Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano, Atrani or Ravello. The winding road is very panoramic, for those who dare to drive on it it is a wonderful route, it is narrow and with innumerable curves but the landscape is spectacular. You can go from Naples to visit this area, but the advice is to stay in one of these cities and enjoy a few days on this coast. Capri Very close to this area that we have just left and being able to embark from Naples, Sorrento, Positano or Amalfi we will arrive at the island of Capri. The island of Capri is an island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, on the southern side of the Gulf of Naples, facing the Sorrento Peninsula, it is a place of celebrated beauty. As we said, you can go by ferry to spend the day or also stay in it, within the island you will have to visit the Marina Grande, the Marina Picola, the center of Capri and Anacapri. Getting lost in those little streets with white buildings and views of the sea is something magnificent, you can go up by funicular or by bus. It is an area with high prices for accommodation, but who would dream of staying one night on this island? An essential if you visit the island is to try to visit The Blue Grotto (la Grotta Azurra) which is a remarkable sea cave on the coast of the island of Capri, we say try to visit it because it is not always open depending on the current and the height of the surf. Naples, the ruins of Pompeii, and Vesuvius Since we are in this area we will name other interesting places to visit in Italy and they are Naples and the ruins of Pompeii. We will start in Naples, a city that is always essential when visiting Italy with its views of Vesuvius and the walk through its picturesque streets with hanging clothes and the bustle of people. And from here we will visit the ruins of Pompeii. Pompeii is an archaeological site located in the Campania region, it was a developed and sophisticated Roman city and was buried under meters of ash and pumice after a catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 Tour this ash-buried city declared World Heritage is an interesting activity. Prepare several hours to do the tour, the place is large and catches up as you do it, 3 to 4 hours are recommended to visit. Although it is a recommended activity to do from Naples if you are spending a few days in the city, it is also true that you have excursions from Rome. As we said, the city was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius along with the city of Herculaneum, another city that can be added to the visit, and you can also visit Vesuvius. For any of all these options there are armed excursions. Matera Matera is located in southern Italy in the Basilicata region of which it is the capital. In addition to getting lost among the streets, the main places of interest are located around Plaza Vitorio Veneto, Plaza Sedile or Plaza San Francisco, without a doubt it is a different place, very striking is to see all those houses embedded in the rock. These are caverns dug into the limestone rock used as a home for millennia. The origins of Matera date back to Prehistory, there is evidence of human settlements from the Paleolithic. If you plan to spend the night in Matera they have some lovely cave hotels, a different experience. Alberobello The origins of this city date back to the second half of the Middle Ages or the beginning of the 16th century when, being a small fiefdom, it began to be populated by peasants. The Counts of this city authorized the settlers to build their houses with dry stone (without cement) so that they could be demolished in case of inspection, since the existing norm in the kingdom of Naples indicated that the birth of an urban agglomeration required the payment of the tribute. With the astute proposal, the tax was avoided, so they were able to build these houses, the Truli, which could be configured as precarious constructions of easy demolition. At least this is one of the options that is believed to be the reason for the birth of these very particular constructions. Also a different site to see in Italy. Venice We arrived at the city of canals. Included in all the guides as an essential in Italy, perhaps it is unnecessary to mention it because we know that it is, but it would also be impossible not to. With the option of staying in Mestre, outside the Island, to get a better price to sleep and dine, and make the journey to Venice during the day, the city, whether you stay in it or not, is a must. Arriving on the vaporetto will already awaken the desire to get lost in its canals. A romantic city if there are any, the gondola ride is also a must. A priori I thought it was a tourist and without much desire we decided to do it, just because we were in Venice and we had to try it, but I found it charming. We take a break here and ask you to subscribe and like if you are enjoying this video. And now yes, if you already did, we continue with the tour. If you have more than one day, add Burano and Murano, but if you don't have time, just get lost in the canals, enter the Basilica of San Marcos and try to find those times when it's a little emptier, so the crowd doesn't take you out the charm. Verona The city of Romeo and Juliet welcomes us not only with the famous balcony but with a charm and much more to see in the city. Verona is a city that is sometimes not taken into account in itineraries, but it has been a city that has fascinated me. The Arena of Verona, a coliseum from the Roman era of the year 30 AD and still in use, will allow us to visit its interior, but if it is summer and opera season you can attend, reserving in advance, one of these fantastic shows . Going to see Juliet's balcony is a must in the city since thanks to Shakespeare's work we will always unite Verona with Romeo and Juliet, when they arrive and see the number of people getting their photo there they will see that everyone thinks the same. Walking through its streets, crossing the Adige River, and going up to Castel San Pietro to get the best views of Verona is something that we cannot miss. If Verona is among your chosen ones to visit, we have a video with a tour and what to see in the city, we will leave it to you in the description. Trento This alpine city in northern Italy you may not have thought of putting it on an itinerary, but it has a different charm and architecture, and when it comes to choosing places in Italy it has the beauty, both in the city and in the surrounding mountains, to include it. Walking through its streets, visiting the Castello del Buonconsiglio, will be enough for you to surely fall in love with it. If you want to get a view from the top towards the whole city with its mountains, take the funicular up to Sardagna, the Funivia Trento/Sardagna will allow you to get a view of the whole valley. As you will see, each area visited is different and they all have a special charm. Italy is a country with beautiful cities and landscapes. If you want to know more about what to see in Trento, we leave you the video in the description. Sirmione on Lake Garda Located in the Lombardy region, this lake is the largest lake in Italy and has beautiful towns. Among them we highlight Riva del Garda, Lemone Sul Garda and Sirmione, the latter with the beauty of its Castle. As we said, Lago Di Garda is the largest Italian lake and one of the most famous tourist lakes in northern Italy along with Lake Como and Lake Maggiore. Milan Milan, if only to see the impressive Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, is worth including in a visit to Italy. See the Duomo at different times of the day because the lighting changes the tone of the magnificent façade. They have much more than this to see in Milan, but if you want more information on what to see and do, we have a complete video, it is in the description. Pisa A visit to Pisa is always in the plans. This city is in the Tuscany region, a region that we will talk about a little later. Among the most important monuments of the city are the Piazza del Miracoli declared a World Heritage Site, the Cathedral built in marble, and the striking 12th century leaning tower with a height of 58 meters that underwent its characteristic tilt immediately after its construction began. . The only recommendation is that you don't run, don't go just to take the characteristic photo holding the tower of Pisa, walk around the city a bit. Cinque Terre We arrive here at another of the most beautiful places in Italy and that makes us always think of including it in an itinerary, Cinque Terre Cinque Terre is called this part of the coast formed by five towns in the province of La Spezia bathed by the Ligurian Sea. We will find here very picturesque towns such as Monterosso, Corniglia, Riomaggiore, Vernazza and Manarola, although they are all very beautiful, I would like to highlight Manarola and Vernazza. It is very common to decide to do these towns in one day, and we did it when we went, but we want to return to stay at least one night in one of them and thus have more time to explore and enjoy them more slowly. I tell you from experience that it was too rushed to do them all in one day. Donnas and the Fort of Bard in the Aosta Valley. We go further north to the Aosta Valley, located in the Western Alps and on both sides of the Dora Baltea Basin. Its capital and most populated city is Aosta, but we are going to choose a very small town Donnas and a little bit from it the Fort of Bard. An area of precious natural beauty, going up to the fort you can enjoy magnificent views, and walking through Donnas is transporting yourself back in time, for it crosses the old Roman road La Vía Consular de las Galias. A quiet, picturesque place without mass tourism. We chose to stay in a quiet B&B in Donnas on its main street and we had a wonderful time. Turin. Located on the banks of the Po River and surrounded by the Alps we find Turin. With remarkable architecture in many of its buildings, it is an interesting city to visit. We highlight here the Royal Palace of Turin, the Egyptian Museum, the Automobile Museum, and the Mole Antoneliana from where you can get beautiful views of the city. From Turin we also have a complete video of what to see and do, I leave it in the description . Tuscany We come to the area perhaps most watched in films always associated with the romanticism of medieval towns, Tuscany. We will highlight here three of its towns, San Gemignano, Montepulciano and Cortona, although there are so many towns that are found in this area and all of them are very beautiful. Although we know that there are day trips from Florence to visit them, the ideal is to be able to spend a few days in one of these towns and savor their dishes and wines while enjoying some beautiful walks, it is one of my favorite regions of Italy. Siena We are still in Tuscany, but now we choose a city, Siena. Siena was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, a tour of Siena It will take us to Piazza del Campo where the Palio festival takes place, to its Duomo the Cathedral of Santa Maria de la Asunción, but perhaps to get lost in its streets. Florence Florence or Firenze is the capital and most populous city of the Tuscany region of which it is its historical, artistic, economic and administrative center. A city that will obviously always be on all the lists of the most beautiful places in Italy. Art dominates the city, its Duomo, the Accademia Gallery , the Uffizi Gallery, the Ponte Vecchio. We recommend going up to Piazzale Michelangelo from where you get wonderful views of the city. Florence is a luxury brooch for this region of Tuscany that we began to see in the two previous points, both with some of its towns and later with Siena. Bologna Bologna is a city in northern Italy, capital of the Emilia Romagna region, located near the Apennines. It is one of the best-preserved historical cities and has the second largest medieval old town in Europe after Venice. It is a city that you may not have thought of adding to a tour either, but a walk through its streets may change your mind. Taormina and Agrigento in Sicily. We return to the south and we go to Sicily. There are many places that we could choose on this Island and the truth is worth spending time in each of its cities and exploring it in depth, but we are going to choose Taormina and Agrigento. Taormina one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily shows us the Ancient Greek theater, the cobbled streets and the Piazza 9 de april. Do not miss the impressive views from the church of Madonna della Roca through the so-called Via Cruxis and also the Isola Bella. Agrigento is located on the southern coast of the island of Sicily and the Valley of the Temples is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we said, in the course of the video they see the change between each one of the zones and they all have their particular beauty and interest. We are going to 20, but what will come next? Rome We arrived at number 20 and although we know that it is the inevitable and that it would not be necessary to name it, we could not ignore it either. Walking through Rome is walking through a part of history, an open-air museum , a city that you would not miss on any tour of Europe. Although there are many places to visit, I would highlight the Colosseum, La Fontana di Trevi, and although it is a separate state, The Vatican. I have little left to say that has not been said about Rome, if you have time when you visit the monument to Vittorio Emanuele go up, the view of the Roman roofs is priceless. And once the 20 chosen places in Italy have been completed, we will add one, which, although very close to visit, is not Italy. The Republic of San Marino. We visited it, we stayed there for one night, and we loved it. It is small but the walk was wonderful. Tell me if you know it, if you liked it or not, or if you would visit it. Travel companions, this is today's video , I hope it has been helpful to add places to your wish lists. If so, we ask you to subscribe and give it a like, it is very helpful for us.
