what is up everyone this is East West beats and today we're going to go through how to use your external MIDI device and create an audio track via the MIDI that's being triggered from logic so what we're going to do here first is we're going to create a MIDI track okay now we're going to are going to go to utility in your audio unit selector and choose external instrument my unit is stereo I have a keyboard that has a USB audio card which sends the USB data that you the audio data through USB so I'm going to choose a channel that it comes through so now what this MIDI track is doing it's pretty much going to record my MIDI and trigger that MIDI back into my keyboard and play the sound as if we're coming in through one channel but it's technically a combination of a MIDI and audio track so I have a drum loop setup I have a drum track that's pulled up on my keyboard here so I'm just going to record a little loop and we'll go from there okay let's go alright so as you can see my drumming was really not on time here and this is when this trick is really useful so you select it you quantize it to the way you want it now let's say I want to add a hi-hat to it so I'm going to add another high add to it you really don't have this flexibility if you're directly recording into it using another external unit or another vintage unit that you may have so let's add some hi-hat to it all right so here you go I have some MIDI let's say if I want to add some swing to it this is one way you do the swing I'm just going to hit T number six glue it together so now all my MIDI data is together so let's play it once all right seems like we're kind of satisfied with this and the way we like it alright so now what we're going to want to do is we're going to want to record the audio output that's coming in from so what we'll do is we'll create a audio track with the input coming in at input three and four and now all we have to do is hit record and make sure the input is 3 and 4 here so I'm going to mute the original MIDI track because the audio will still be coming in from audio 3 & 4 so let's just hit record and see what we get what we get alright so now you can see that uh you know that the other track wasn't really playing and what we got here was just an audio of the drum that we played through external instrument so let's play it great so that is how you record using an external MIDI instrument tweak the MIDI and then record it as an audio loop that you can use for your production later you can also export this create your sample packs tweak it do whatever you want with that audio it's yours now once again thank you guys for checking out my channel east/west beats if you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comment box below if you like what you saw please hit comment and also share it with your friends if you have any other questions you can go to my facebook page at facebook.com slash east/west beats and we can get in touch there thanks again I'll see you the next one
