LOCAL HAWAII FOOD TOUR: Best of Oahu - 10 Must Eats: Poke Nachos, Ahi Katsu, Hawaiian Food and More!

that is super crispy [Music] i've been living here on the island my whole life and this is my favorite hawaii food list from the popular local eats huge and you have the most famous wine dish of them all the boy the treats and the only deep fried not baked apple pie you'll find it at a mcdonald's in the u.s the taran jalapeno pie is pretty good and exclusive too so stick around to the end and let's go aloha for today we're going on a hawaii local food tour to check out 10 of my favorite local eats first up the ahikatsu here fresh catch let's go but before we go make sure to hit that subscription button right down below it kind of helps out the channel okay let's go for real now so right now we're here at fresh catching kanyohe and we're gonna try out the spicy ahikatsu let's check it out oh look at that long line so i guess it's gotta be good there's a long line here right and the dressings look really good let's have some and apparently uh chef reno is known for his sauces made in hawaii my spicy ahikatsu i'm just going to wait to sit down so we can grind on this thanks i'm glad to hear this this is the first time someone told me that thank you so much thank you so right now we have the spicy ahikatsu [Music] wow ahi is like a hawaiian version of fish which is the yellowfin tuna and katsu is a japanese style of making the katsu so this costs 13.99 for the spicy ahikatsu i saw the regular ahikatsu cost 12.99 so i think you pay a dollar more for the dressings on top and the dressings look really good look there's some mayo sauce and a little bit of spice and furukake [Music] this is so good you can taste the fish it's deep fried it looks like there's nice smooth and buttery i like the fact that there's a lot of sauce on top it kind of spices it up that's why they call it the spicy ahikatsu but the mayo everything is perfect here if you just look it look there's a combination of mayo rice and they have some green salad over here but i'm not gonna argue that they put lettuce in here too i could have used some mac salad instead but that's okay i'm not complaining am i happy yeah you can see the bread on the outside which is the katsu and you can see the ahi inside which is the yellowfin tuna then you can see the furukake the sauce is on the outside it's just a perfect combination it's a delicious treat and i think that's what separates it from your normal takeout plate is that over here i think it's just one more step higher just in time the seat opened up now i'm gonna eat the rest now actually recognized my youtube channel over here i got to be humble because my head went like big for a little bit you have to remember there's a lot of work to do so right now we're here at the river city shopping center in kanyohe and we're going to my favorite place and it's called kj's local grinds they have some of the best fried chicken and they give you a big portion too you see it for yourself first customers of the day you know what to order yeah i know the staff here everyone's really friendly good morning it's a local owned business and i'd love to support them see most plate lunches you get that you can actually fit all the food inside but for this fried chicken since they give so much they can't fit everything [Applause] [Music] that looks so good oh [Music] oh my it's so crispy you see all this these are all the juices it's really rich and dense i like how the outside is crispy but the inside is really tender of the chicken the juices really wear off on the rice too their mac salad is in spaghetti like string form and the really compliments the furakaki chicken and the rice everything goes well together [Music] as much as i want to finish this flutikaka chicken that's really good uh we're gonna go to the most famous and most popular meal at kj's local grind which is the fried chicken this is four huge pieces they give usually paces they give you three pieces that looks really crispy all mine and not yours but it can be yours if you go to kj's it's really juicy and tender on the inside that is super crispy [Music] okay cut cut time to eat okay so it's raining right now we can't sit here to eat so we're gonna find a nice beach park area and eat it over there check out the rainbow somewhere over the rainbow dawn is eating a surf and term uh he cakes with rice and beef i think the owner dean mishima he's been around since 2006 and he's won a lot of respect from the locals here so it's gotta be good oh it almost seems like fine dining in a lunch plate somewhere over the rainbow way this is super juicy oh my this is so good i wouldn't recommend you um taking your date here for the first time because um i think you might forget about her for a second or two because you're gonna be experiencing something that you've never experienced before all right guys uh that rainbow is really bright so i'm gonna take the rest of my food and go over there and enjoy this rainbow aloha because of the coven we couldn't dine in at poke on the run so we found the place and this does it let's eat that's poke ahi kamikaze nachos oh my and there's kulua pork uh with teriyaki sauce also on here this is the most amazing thing i've eaten in a long long time and it's huge right here boom almost the size of my head the poke is really fresh and i think you can share this dish with somebody else dude this is a whole lot to eat 17 you can't go wrong everything went through my waha to my opponent i'm happy sweating a little bit because it's spicy but it's damn good so we're here at the waihole poi factory this place has been around for a very long time has some of the best hawaiian food and this special dessert called the sweet lady of waihole ice cream is a must you see for yourself let's go check it out few moments later so the brown stuff right here is a color it's more like a taro pudding to put in easiest terms it's a little warm and it mixes well with the ice cream with the jalapeno coconut and it's a winner they call this a sweet lady of waiahole ice cream because it's named after a lady in the 1900s [Music] so now we have the kanaka nui plate it's basically a mixture of all the hawaiian foods together this costs 18 and i'll show it to you [Music] wow we have the kalua pork the laulau the chicken long rice the lomi salmon the jalpia which is a coconut dessert and we have the most famous wine dish of them all the boy and we're gonna have a bite of it too right now [Music] it's quite fattening it's juicy and i love how the tara leaf complements it it's all the fat i love it so in my opinion bob's barbecue in kapolei has the best locomotive on the island a loco moco is a popular dish amongst the locals here and it involves hamburger gravy and eggs and that looks great the reasons why i requested the eggs over easy compared to scrambled it's really just basically for me to do this look [Music] i almost died i went to heaven no seriously this thing is on fire the hamburger is hot it's on fire and my mouth is on fire and i'm on fire because i'm on a roll right now all the eggs all the gravy but over here i feel like i'm swimming in the sauce so now we're here at an unusual place my favorite paint line space is in a walmart is it a walmart located right by ala moana center and it's called the l hawaiian barbecue one of my favorite places to eat is right when you go in it'll be your first left and they have the biggest portions for the price here and it's money well spent the food is really good and the thing i really like is that it's been the same people working there for the past i don't know seven or eight years i've been here so it's consistently good every time so come along with me you would never think that you would find one of the best hawaiian plate lunches in a walmart but it's true what i'm gonna order is a chicken katsu curry they always give a lot of food along to which i like i swear that guy never takes a day off every time i'm here whether it's morning lunch or dinner these are working the counter later i wasn't lying right when i said that they give you a big portion over here they're very generous in a tourist area [Music] you have two big scoops of rice and you have the back salad over here it's better than any other chicken cocoa i've had throughout the island and that's saying a lot and the tricky thing about the curry is that it makes everything moist through the rice and the katsu but the tatsu in itself is still crispy and another thing is that people who eat this they don't look like that [Music] okay so right now we're at lanikai juice in kailua and they are the best acai bowl so let's go check it out [Music] the sidebarry is here and they really squished this acai extravaganza together wow all mine and not yours see there's the coconut here peanut butter it's organic peanut butter too they want to have a healthy theme to it with the strawberries it's soft it's slushy has a really good texture and they somehow blend everything together with the with the crisp granola the coconut the peanut butter that's a little sticky the bananas it just all blends well together it's it's hard to explain it's an explosion thank you so much thank you [Music] this is the organic kalua monkey i never tried it before but i heard it's really popular and i'm trying it just for you i'll show you a little bit wow that looks like a thick dense milkshake i can see i can see the chunks right here there's peanut butter milk honey banana let's see how it tastes like [Music] wow that is intense good intensely good it's a real thick shake that seems like they really just squeezed every nutrient possible of all the fruits they put in here into this one shake it almost feels like you could taste the peanut butter then after it's being chased by the banana so right now i'm here at leonard's bakery and they're known for their malasadas they're located in kapahulu and it's kind of near the waikiki zoo maybe a couple minute drive and this is a really busy area because everybody likes the malasadas here so basically where malasadas are is that they're portuguese donuts that are deep fried until it turns like crispy brown and they have a lot of sugar on top i'm gonna get my mala salads right now uh right now it's rainy and there's no area we eat inside so we're gonna have a little bit of this in the car right now it's best eaten while it's fresh and hot drumroll please the regular malasadas which is the one that's right here it looks so good and it's crispy too and you know when something's really good that no matter how well you eat it you can't stay clean you're you're bound to get messy whoa and when you taste it you forget that everything pretty much doesn't exist in this world right now this is the main letters bakery over here that's located on kapohulu they have letters malasada wagons throughout the island of oahu like right there and the letters matasalas and kanyohe too [Applause] so the hawaii mcdonald's apple pie is an honorable mention i have to mention it since it's unique to hawaii and there's a mcdonald's everywhere [Music] wow it's really hard with the exterior on the outside but it's really squishy and soft and mushy on the inside kind of like my personality actually [Music] it's called a spam yes yes yes and my favorite form of eating spam is in the form of the spam musubi now the spam museum is wrapped with rice sometimes it has futakaki inside and this one is the basic one with a little bit of shoyu now i picked 7-11 because in my opinion the 7-eleven spam musubi is convenient it's quality and the price is relatively cheap 7011 spam musubi never disappoints it's hard to describe what spam tastes like just know that every local says that it tastes good and it's ono i honestly haven't met well i'm sure that there's some people on this island that grew up here that doesn't like spam but i haven't met any and i probably don't want to meet them anyhow and probably don't want to be their friend because who doesn't like spam i don't want to know them so that's it guys that sums up the food tour there's other local eats i want you to try like the mana pool wow it's char soup pork here with a nice white fluffy bun which can be found in my chinatown video located in the upper corner here shave ice guy gave me a warning he goes you know how big this thing is the uncle size and i told him oh i'm not sure but just bring it on which can also be found in my shave ice video that's located in the upper corner here and macadamia nut snowball cookies there's nothing better in life than eating snowball cookies with this ocean view what is it i'm not gonna give me enough
