Living On What Is Left - Pastor John McVicker Sr. (Full Sermon)

oh come on they were wonderful it's kind of hard following them I really give an invitation for somebody to meet Jesus these children look simply fabulous yeah get them to come to Milwaukee hey man we need to do we need to be blessed by the ministry we honor the Lord today too Archbishop they lead to all the reason my sister and brother in Christ to all the ministers here on the official staff and visiting ambassadors and ministers to the officers and told you the family and friends of God allowing us to be together on this your 44 44 44 years old a man that done after the 40's of fabulous forties in insulin and it's good and I'm honored to share in this special day this time in your church history and I'm gonna think Archbishop for inviting me to come and to share world view you're not starving for preaching here you have one of God's best preachers pastors hey man I said you have one of God's best preaching hospital leaders that team right there Amen it's a dynamic duo right there and we love them and I just thank God that he'd let our paths intersect on our journey to glory and it's been my privilege and I feel so special that God brought them into my life and so and for that I shall be eternally grateful I want to thank brother Gibson and any other brother he picked me up he said I'm deacon what's his first name you know trusty see it he said now I'm digging seeing trusty that's a deacon trustee I say what kind I will leave that to two jobs he said number last name is trust yeah okay but they were so wonderful and hospitable and everything has been gracious and I always you all have you all are five-star Church and I thank God for you not to belabor this our listen it to the Word of God I want to share something with you today out of the second Kings it's a familiar story and I trust there be some truth in this narrative that the discs help you own you on your way the fourth chapter second Kings chapter four the new century version translation for seven verses out I read to you it says the wife of a man from the groups of prophets said to Elisha your servant my husband is dead you know he honored the Lord but now the man he owes money to is coming to take my two boys as his slaves Elisha answered how can i cup people tell me what do you have in your house the woman said I don't have anything there except the pot of oil did eliza said go and get empty jars from all your neighbors don't ask for just a few then go into your house and shut the door behind you and your sons pour oil into all the jars and set the four ones aside so she left elisha and shut the door behind her and her sons as they brought the jars to her she poured out the oil well the jars were all full she said to her son bring me another jar but he said there are no more jokes then the oil stopped flowing she wouldn't totally Liza and the Prophet said to her go sell the oil and pay what you owe you and your sons can live on what is left amen and I won't tell this talk living on what is left living on what is left the woman in this and the woman in this narrative is is an ancient icon for contemporary for the contemporary condition of many many women in our society of many people in our society but particularly the many women who have been left with the burden of maintaining a household without spousal support she represents the reality of financial shortfalls faced by many single parents whose resources are incapable of relieving the pressure of debt that has been incurred and as in her case creditors are not concerned with the causes of constricting conditions they are only interested in collecting what is due because capitalism has no feelings capitalism is concerned with personal profit and not people's problems capitalism is driven by gains and knit because it deflects any feelings of guilt it oftentimes is seen as an amoral system which the concept of right and wrong is invalid and for the woman in our text life has dealt her a series of unpleasant events she is a widow she's left alone with children and she has significant debt and such a hardship is no respecter of persons for she reveals to us that her husband was a godly man a man who loved God and a man who served God's prophet but his death left her with a financial burden that she was unable to carry her world now is careening off course as she had to deal with the death of her provider and partner as well as deal with the debt that was left for her to manage and not to bash the deceased that's not what I'm doing but I think his actions tell us today that family business should be managed by planning for your departure can I say that again to you family business brother's family business should be handled by planning for your departure and two younger younger men I want to say this is a good time to get a whole lot of life and I don't know why they call it life insurance because you don't get it till you dad but to get a whole lot of life insurance while you're young and healthy and your premium can get locked in very low yeah a family business ought to be managed by planning for your departure and and as we watch her struggle with this dilemma it's important to note that this widow did not take her concern about death debt and deficiency to the world to solve but rather she turned to someone who could aid her with a word from the Lord so she says to the Prophet in the first verse in your servant your servant my husband is dead and you know he honored the Lord but now the man he owes money is coming to take my two boys as his slaves she took her problem to the Lord she took her problem to God and now God has a plan for her problem stay with me now for Elijah asked her two things he says what do you need and what do you have Elijah asked for specifics he says how can I help you tell me what do you have in your house and these questions are to every person in this woman's predicament male or female these questions said to her and they say to all that God has a plan to fix your problem and that plan involves what you already have listen to me God will begin with where you are and with what you have to solve your problem now notice her reply to the question which points to her flame of mine which was working against her as opposed to working for her for she says in the second verse the woman says I don't have anything there except a part of all in essence she was saying all I had yeah which implies several things first of all it implies that she must have depleted her goods for debt relief for she says all I have left she had tried to satisfy the creditors by the best means she knew how but those means proved to be insufficient secondly it says that there was no other item of worth with the exception of this small flask the small vast bottle of oil that she could depart with and thirdly it says that she was listen discounting and discrediting what she had being unaware of the fact that she must make the best of whatever she had left her response all I have left carries with it a tone of defeat all I have left raises the white flag of surrender when she says all I have left it cashes in and gets up from the table all I have is a concession to fate in a digression from faith oh I have left is the dirt of the defeated and not the chorus of champion she said to Eliza all I have left although married to a man of God she forgot God's work although probably a servant of God herself she forgot God's word for God has a reputation of working with seemingly insufficiencies can I get a witness here had this woman just pause to remember she could have recalled that God had already turned bitter waters sweet with a dash of salt making it suitable to irrigate the land had she just Falls to remember she could we have recall that God had already defeated 450 prophets of Bale and 400 prophets of the Grove upon Mount Carmel by one man Elijah had she just pause to remember she could have recalled that God had already saved a widow in her son during a famine with just a little meal and a little oil he had just had to just pause to remember she could have brought to mind that God had already ended a three-year and six-month drought with a cloud the size of a man's hand had she just pause to remember she would already be able to recall that God had a giant Goliath by the hand of a shepherd boy with a slingshot he had already run roughshod over a Midianite army with a man named Gideon and just a few hundred men if she could have just pause to remember she could have recalled that God had already conquered a city called Jericho by marching around it one time for six days and seven times on the seventh day and on the thirteenth second when they shattered the walls came down God's got a track record that's all I'm trying to tell you but working with seemingly insufficiency she had forgotten but good but Elijah wanted her to know that that same God that has a reputation of working with seemingly insufficiencies in the past he will work with her insufficiencies and he will work with her deficiencies in the present he's the same God as the Prophet looked around her house and making an assessment it became apparent that she had to have sold everything of value including her vessels he then says to her God is going to use what you have listen but you have to participate in the process stay with in verses 3 & 4 he says he says to her go and get empty jar from all your neighbors and don't just give a few then going through your house shut the door behind you and his sons and pull all into all the jars and set the full ones aside she was instructed to borrow vessels from her neighbors she was told to think big she was told to think possibility are you listening to me she was told to think big she was told to think possibility borrow Ness was my dog borrow just a few for Elijah did not want her to be hindered by the unorthodoxy of God's processes nor should she dare put any limits on God I want you to think big and I want you to think possibility and do not come here don't concern yourself with the how God's gonna do the work seek because if God's Word says give and it shall be given unto you you ought to just give God's Word said bless those who curse you gone and bless them if the word said love those who speak manners of evil about you lilamon 1/2 for we are not to concern ourselves with how God is going to do what I'm almost finished and after see have gathered the blesses she was instructed to shut the door enlarger knew that her neighbors would be nosy come here so he told us shut the door Elijah knew that doubters would desire to have dialogue with her and her critics would come offering their commentary so he told us shut the door and shut the door shutting the door was critical to her outcome because she when you start thinking big come in look closer when you start thinking possibility the last thing you want is some people standing around offering their opinions to obstruct your vision about what God is going to do it seemingly impossible in your life when you start walking the road of unorthodoxy that God ordains for you the last thing you want in your ear is people volunteering their voices as to the logic of your faith I come to tell you that faith doesn't make sense faith just works faith doesn't make sense ingest worse come in Noah tell him that you built the ship in the middle of the desert winning time and it never rained before faith doesn't make sense but it wants come into us effect you getting ready to go into the battle and you put the choir in the front to sing the song link doesn't make sense faith - works and so when you start thinking big then when you start thinking possibility you don't need some naysayer telling you that god I don't know if not gonna do that maybe he's not gonna do it in your life maybe you can't believe God for anything but I come to tell you that God that I serve can do exceeding abundantly above all that I'm able to ask for a thing I believe God shut the door don't tell your neighbor to shut the door no I'm telling Mike you really mean it sent to God hallelujah nearly said I'm Bob give me five minutes he said he said then go into your house and shut the door behind you and your son and pour all the pour oil into all the jars and set the fool ones aside now here's a lesson to take the heart that the blessing will be found in the porn out what do you talk about this means that the way to increase or the way to multiply is by using what we have see you and I can never be afraid to release what we have because of the fear that you won't have anything left you cannot be afraid to sow a seed in faith because of fear that it may not bear fruit if the natural law says that you have to so if you want to reap then how much loss and we're children of God believe that that law that says you have to so if you want to read but that's not all that's here for for there's something else in this text that we shouldn't overlook and that is that the woman must do the act she must exercise the faith for neither Elijah nor her sons could pour when you mean faster see this was her dilemma Eliza couldn't fall for this was her problem her sons couldn't pull forward she must exercise the faith meaning that that they could believe with her but they can't believe for her come in come in come on come in I know you've got a prayer partner but they can't believe God for you they can believe God with you but you have to believe God it was her problem so she had to do the poor and look at fire such as seven they say as they brought the jars to her she poured out the oil and when the jaws were fool she said to her son bring me bring me another job and he said there are no more job look at him good didn't the oil stop flowing she wasn't totally Liza and the Prophet said going sale know all and pay what you owe and you and your sons can live on what's left she poured out now they did not see the source but they knew the source yeah and that tells me that we may not understand God's ways but we can show enough trust and believe his word hallelujah ain't gonna crank it up but I kind of feel like it up last thing it's one more thing I want you to look at in here when you read the narrative we see that vessel after vessel was filled and as long as there was an empty vessel the oil float are you seeing with me but when there were no more yeah the blessing was cut off now when you go back and read and read the story that the conversation is between Elijah and the woman she explains her condition she says I'm a widow and I have some debt and her concern was that a son were going to be taken as bond slaves and Elijah ask her about her inventory he said what do you have in your house and then he gives her instructions to collect vessels from all her neighbors and then shut the door and pour now note again that while she was pouring the vessels ran out and the flow of oil ceased and there could been more for her to receive but she ran out of Nestle's and come here I'm gonna help you with this one and the reason she ran out of vessels is because she sent her boys to collect them because in verse slime is saying the boys brought her the jar but when you look at rest three Eliza told her to collect the vessels and all I'm trying to tell you today is don't you never allow anybody else to determine that what is right for you don't you ever let anybody determine how much is enough for you don't let nobody tell you how much is enough because you can never receive all that God has if you let somebody else set a limit in your life my God he's unbridled my god he's are limited my God he's unobstructed he's unrestricted that God is unregulated he's unrestrained I come to tell you don't you ever anybody tell you how this morning we will witness here hallelujah from the Lord from the Lord for this house for each of us this morning living
