[music playing] CHARLES GOLEMAN: We got
to stop this vehicle. He just ran that red light. And luckily I was
paying attention. Otherwise, we'd have crashed. 41 [inaudible] copy,
a traffic stop. We need [inaudible] I mean,
Front and Gause, Walgreens. Go ahead and step
out for me, man. MAN: My bad, sir. CHARLES GOLEMAN: I got you. Go ahead and step out. All right-- CHARLES GOLEMAN:
How you doing, man? What's going on?
Why'd you have to do that? Keep your hands out
of pocket for me, man, just for my
safety and yours. We've been seeing each other. MAN: I just wanted
y'all to know, uh-- change is happening. Yeah? Ask your friend who I am. I'm not worried about that.
I'm asking you. Do you have your driver's
license and proof of insurance? I got it. CHARLES GOLEMAN: Will
you get your driver's license out for me, please? I was just about to do that. CHARLES GOLEMAN: OK, please. Where is it at? I'm asking you where it is. OK. Stand over here for me. Paul, do me a favor.
I'm going to take him. Sit this one out.
- Hold on. Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait.
Wait. Wait. Go-- I'm gonna go
and sit [inaudible].. All right.
We'll sit down. We'll sit down.
- Let me see your stuff. I got this.
I got this. Let me see your stuff. I got this. I got this. You're being detained. You're not being
placed under arrest. You're being detained. Why am I being detained? Because your erratic behavior. No way. Somebody better tell him
who I am before I get upset. OFFICER: Who are you? You don't know either? OFFICER: No, sir, I don't. Somebody go get your buddies. Get your buddies out here. You better call your buddies. We're going to call-- My buddy is already here. You just can't see him. Kind of lean up
against my car. Listen.
Listen. This is what--
[interposing voices] You're not going to tell
me what I'm going to do. You guys are going
to stand over here. You're not going to tell
me what I'm going to do. You're going to lean
against the car. You guys are going to stand
over there and apologize to me. Watch-- watch him for me, Cor. Do you understand that? Where's your
drivers license at? Dude, look in the, um-- look in the glove box. It might be in there. Glove box? I don't need an ID though. You know who I am. Look up. Who are you? What's your name? Christ, Yeshua,
Christopher Earl Joyner. Christopher Earl Joyner. Christ. Yeshua. Don't let me
[inaudible] once I got. OK. Anybody want to time this? In about five minutes, they're
going to take these handcuffs off me and apologize
to me, and I'm going to hug them and bless them. [music playing] What's your name, buddy? - Officer Goleman.
- Goleman. Yes, sir. You know who I am too. But I'm going to
play along with you. Perfect.
I appreciate it. Now, look, this wasn't--
this is what's going on. OK?
- (ON RADIO) Another call. Shots fired. It's already come
up to be transferred. Shots fire-- Hey, um-- - Shots fired?
- Just go. I got this.
- You sure? Yeah, go.
Go. Go. Go.
OK. Hold on one second. First off, what's
your last name? Joyner. Mr. Joyner, OK.
CHRISTOPHER JOYNER: Yes, sir. CHARLES GOLEMAN: Uh-- due
to extenuating circumstances that we have in the city-- OK-- I found you. I got you in the system. You don't have any
outstanding attachments or anything like that. I'm going to take you
out of these cuffs. Now you take it easy
tonight, you hear me? OK, absolutely. I'm going to take you
out of these cuffs. You're going to be free
to go about your business. OK? You need to take a
deep breath and relax-- OK. --before you go out there,
doing what you got to go do. We're going-- we're-- I'm going to do that. [sirens] Uh-- we're in route to the
bar district, here in Slidell. We have got-- the
person who came out is a fight, 103-F,
at a local bar. We had a second call while
we were on that last stop that there were
actually shots fired. We're, uh-- we're
responding to assist the units that are already on
scene, make sure everybody's going to be OK. [music playing] [radio dispatch chatter] [bleep] Sit down, [inaudible]
Just sit down. This is it, dude. Apparently he
was getting jumped. I don't know [inaudible] [interposing voices] I'm a union iron worker. Just relax. OK. Sarg, the guy
we got in custody is going to be our perp. Yeah. OK. Have you all-- have you all
patted him down real good? That was the knife
that was on the ground? Probably. Let me see it. OK. Their initial report that
came out was shots fired. So far, everything we've heard
from the witnesses in the area just say the subject got
irate, entered the bar. He was asked to leave. Security tried to escort him
to the door, at which point somebody in the crowd
swung at the subject and possibly made
contact with him. We're going to try and make
contact to see who the person was who actually struck first. But apparently, he was
an instigator tonight. He was definitely the aggressor. So what happened tonight? That? I do that every day. OK. Keep your foot in
the car for me, OK? Don't come out this car.
- No, no, no, I'm not. All right. - I promise you, I'm not.
- OK. That-- OK. OK. OK. Well, I'm talking about
what happened tonight, man. Do you want to be a [bleep] Somebody in there did? Yes. OK. So you had-- you
exchanged words and things got physical at one point? I-- I got annihilated. And no one cares about
any of those other people. Yes, we do. We're investigating
that as well. I know. I've heard that
many times before. OK. Well, you're hearing
it from me now. Whatever they
say, I'm by myself. You're by yourself?
OK. Do you have any
weapons on your person that's hidden, anything
we need to know about? That, sir. This is all you have? That, sir. OK. All right and do me a favor,
go ahead and turn your feet. I'm going close this door, OK? All right, so he admitted
to basically getting into an altercation tonight. He is extremely intoxicated. With his state,
we're going to try and go off of
witness statements, and we're going to
judge from there. He's actually going
to be going and placed under arrest tonight. At the least, if
I'd imagine, it's going to be disturbing the peace
by a fistic encounter, possibly aggravated battery, if
we can come out that he actually tried to go at
somebody or aggravated assault with a weapon. [radio dispatch chatter] Just go and stand in the back. I'll explain
everything in a second. Anybody else in the car
with you or just you? All right.
My name's Officer Stokes. I'm with the Slidell
Police Department. And just keep your hands
out your pockets for me. Yes. The reason I'm stopping you
is on Florida, which is just one block up from where you were,
we had a report of, like, 10 shots fired. Um-- they said it was
a vehicle with somewhat of a loud exhaust. And you're the only
car I saw in the area. [inaudible] So did you-- do you know what
it-- did you hear anything? Did you--
- No, sir. Did anything come out of your
weapon or anything like that? No, sir. You can check everything,
any ballistics, all that. OK.
All right. Do you have a driver's
license with you? I do. I'm just going to
take the weapon for now, just to keep it safe. MAN: Yeah, whatever
you think, boss. Thank you, man. [radio dispatch chatter] 129-- going to be a Smith
and Wesson M&P, .40 caliber. Right now, we do
have a .40 caliber firearm here and .40 caliber
shell casings at the scene. And we want to make sure
100% that this gentleman was not involved in any type
of illicit activity over there. Looks like it might
have a bullet hole-- a couple of bullet holes in it. [music playing] Is that blood right there? That's blood right
there on the door. We got fresh blood at the door. There's more right here. Sounds like on scene they
have a residence that has blood on it, bullet holes in it. And the back door is wide open. They're going to be
clearing the residence, doing a welfare check,
making sure nobody is injured or worse. Slidell Police Department. [inaudible] All right. Yeah, somebody's hit. Look here, bullet holes are
coming through right here. Yeah, we cleared the house. There's some bloods,
uh-- blood in the house, looks like where
somebody was hit. But the house was vacant. Looks like they just left the
back door open and unsecured. They did find shell
casings on the scene. They've, uh-- they're .40
caliber shell casings, which match your firearm. OK. So as of right
now, you're not free to leave just 'cause of
that match-up right there. Yeah, right. And they've got
some other things going on on the scene they're
investigating right now. Looks like somebody
may have been injured. - You got the wrong guy, boss.
- Hey, I mean, it happens. You can run
ballistics on my weapon. It has not been fired. OK. You said you were
coming from the tavern? Yes, sir. What time did you
leave the tavern? Uh--I left not
even a half hour ago. - Half hour.
- Not even. Everybody there can vouch me. I was there, sir. I've playing beer
pong all night. It's not been fired recently. It just didn't smell like
it'd been fired recently at all. Yeah, it hasn't been. And it wasn't warm. Like, the barrel wasn't warm. You could you pop off 10, and
it's gonna be at least warm when you touch it. Nothing was warm that I
had felt. So I don't-- It's fine. As of right now, we have no
reason to hold him any further. But there's definitely somebody
injured in this incident. We've called the hospitals in
the area to see if anybody has come in with a gunshot wound. No one has come in yet. But their protocol
is to call us as soon as one comes in anyways. So if one does happen
to come through the ER, we will be getting a phone call. That's where we're at for now. [music playing] We're responding to a call
of a suspicious subject. He's been in Walgreens
for about three hours now. So yeah, making the
staff uncomfortable. All right. Is he still in there? OK. What does he look like? Blue shirt, blue hat? OK. Oh, I see him. How you doing, sir? What are you doing? What you shopping for, man? Uh? Just hanging out. I got you. No, they're not complaining. They just want to know
what you're doing. Now, you mind if I
come talk to outside? OK. You going to buy 'em? What you had all them
gift cards for, man? [radio dispatch chatter] I'm just making sure you ain't
got nothing on you, all right? Hang right. Why do you keep
these right here? Hmm? - You stealing this?
- Huh? No. You stealing this? No. - You payed for this?
- Huh? You paid for it? Bro, listen to me. All right.
- Yes, sir. If I go back and
look at that camera, it's not going to show you
putting that in your pants. Now, I'm going
be honest with you. Go ahead.
Be honest with me. I'm going to be
honest with you. I was [bleep] around. I was going to take it. OK. I was going to take
it, but I wasn't decided. I was thinking about
putting it back because I knew you all was coming. I'm heard them call you all. OK. You got anything else on you? What is this? You stole this? I've been here that. No, I've been here that. So if I go look on that shelf,
they ain't going to have that. They got that here. All right, just
be honest with me. They got that here. - Did you take it?
- Yeah, I took it. All right, thank you. Put nothing on you? Yes, sir. What you got a
ticket for, bro? Who wrote you? I ain't got-- Oh, look at-- They asked me. Bro, you know what this says? Yeah. A summons for theft. Imagine Three days ago. I got one three days ago. All right, mister,
turn around for me. Yes, sir. And you're banned from here, OK? So don't come back. Once you get out,
don't come back-- Yeah.
Yeah. --to this Walgreens. I think my pants
make me tough. [laughs] That was a good one. Thank you. - That was a good one.
- All right, have a seat for me. Hey, I was just
messing with you. I know. I appreciate that. He's going to end up going
to jail today for the theft. It was kind of a weird
assortment of items that he was stealing--
some flashlights and some enhancement pills. He had a summons on-- in
his back pocket for theft three days ago. So he obviously hasn't
learned his lesson. I'm going to stop this car
with a broken tail light. [radio dispatch chatter] I smell weed coming from it. How you doing, man? Oh, pretty good. You got a broken light back
here on the license plate. That's why I stopped you. Oh, hell, man. Another one? I've been having so much trouble
with this damn truck recently. You got your ID on you, man? Yes, sir. Uh-- Here's an ID. I have license-- That's not-- that's not
beer I'm looking at, huh? Oh, yeah, it's the
one I took from work. - All right.
- I'm on my way home. That's why I didn't
drink it or anything. Come on, hop out
of the truck, man. I guess You talking to me--you're
lips are shaking. Well, that's 'cause it's-- like, I've been so worried
about his damn truck and everything is just-- What are you nervous about? Oh, nothing. I just haven't
really been pulled over in a long time and-- All right, do me a favor. Put your-- I'm going
to get your wallet, and I'm going to throw
it in your truck. Put your hands on the
back of the truck. I'm going to pat
you down real quick. [music playing] Now, why are you nervous? Anything inside the vehicle
I should know about? Oh, in all
honesty, officer, I'm going to keep it real with you. I do have a joint in my door. OK. That's why you're nervous. Uh-- yes, sir. Uh-- sorry. That's all you got
is that one joint? Yes, sir. Nothing else? Nothing else, sir. Do me a favor. Come sit out your
bumper back here. [coughing] Did you swallow
weed or something? No, man, I just-- I've never been in this
kind of trouble before. Open your mouth. Let me see your tongue. I don't have anything in it. All right. I'm-- I'm trying to
be honest with you. All right.
Relax. [gagging] [spitting] What are you spitting up for? I'm just-- I'm so-- [gagging]
I'm so nervous. [gagging] That's-- I don't handle stress very
well and everything, man. You say you are good? Can I call you an ambulance? No, I'm-- I'm--
I'm straight. It's just, like I said, the
nervousness, the lights-- I don't really-- I don't know if it's something
with my eyes or whatever. But they're kind of-- I gotcha. I thought I smelled
marijuana driving behind him, and I saw him smoking. I think he'd be-- you know, I thought he'd be
smart enough not to smoke weed with a cop behind him. He has a prior in 2005 for
another drug violation. You had uh, a prior arrest
in 2005 for uh, narcotics. For narcotics. Uh-huh. I have no idea about that. I want you to sit
tight right here-- - Yes, sir.
- --while I search the vehicle. Yes. There we go. All right, man. Look, all I found in
the car was a blunt. Yes, sir. Normally, I'd just write
you a summons for the blunt. But-- but you have a prior
arrest for narcotics. Narcotics? Like I said, I don't
know why it's in there. I'll have to take you in. All right? Yes, sir. All right. It's a misdemeanor
charge for possession. Yeah, but I-- I-- I just don't
understand how I've been-- I don't know, man.
It's in the computer. I've never even been
arrested by you guys. I was arrested by [inaudible] Do me a favor,
man, and stand up. Yes, sir. Now look, uh-- turn around. I'm going to do you a favor. I'm-- I'm-- Oh, man, this is-- I'm not going to
tow your vehicle. I'll park it in a parking
space over here, OK? Yes, sir. So it'll be sitting here. I won't tow it because
you're honest with me. [inaudible] Come back this way. The clerk of a
gas station called in saying that her
outside bathroom facility, the men's
side, has been locked for roughly 2 and 1/2 hours. It only locks from the inside. And she suspects that somebody
is inside of that restroom. It's unknown if, uh-- they're sleeping, or if
it's somebody in need. So we're going to go--go check
it out and see what we have. They got a key? No. It's locked from the inside. She said that
somebody is coming to fix this door tomorrow. If it's locked
from the inside, but they've got a
key right here-- She said she didn't have it. I don't know. You can feel a
little bit of give. Somebody's in there, obviously. [banging] They said if we need
to break it, we can. [music playing] Only fear is this going to
be a heroin overdose in there. That's what I'm thinking. So we're not getting
any response from inside. The clerk says it's been
locked for a good two-- 2 and 1/2 hours. Um-- hopefully, if
somebody is in there, they're just sleeping soundly. [radio dispatch chatter] But my fear is that
is going to be a, uh-- an overdose of some type. So we're going to find
a means to make entry, probably utilizing the fire
department and their tools and uh, see what we have. Is someone in there? It's either empty or somebody
that's, uh-- no longer living, or a very deep sleeper. Hopefully, empty or
a very deep sleeper. And it can be locked
from the outside. They don't have a key. Does another manager or
somebody else that worked here have a key? No. So, uh-- [rattling door] The only thing is, dude, it's
probably going to be an OD in there if there is somebody. I know. Yeah, right. I want some-- I don't
want to break my knife. I want, like, a screwdriver. Break the door and nobody's
going to be in there. Hopefully. I'd rather be-- I'd rather a
broken door and it be empty than break a door
and find somebody. They believe somebody
to be in there. No response for about
two, 2 and 1/2 hours. Did they see
someone go in there? They-- they're just expecting
someone to be in there. They have-- they have
a key inside. right? They don't. They can't find it. [radio dispatch chatter] You all got a
[inaudible] just in case? That's the key? I'm sorry. [laughs] OFFICER: Maybe it'll work now. [music playing] Here. WOMAN: Thank god. [interposing voices] OFFICER: Might
have had it before. MAN: Probably. [inaudible] going in. There it is. Empty? Empty, which is good. I'd rather it be empty and, uh-- How did someone-- --a broken door than
nobody being in there. The management
probably locked it. [radio dispatch chatter] Well, didn't somebody knew-- somebody knew where the key was. I'm so sorry. No, I mean-- [inaudible] MAN: Sorry about your door. No, thank you. It's OK. I'm just glad nobody's
in there dead. She's pretty adamant
that no one locked the door from the outside. But obviously,
someone had to have, because there's no
one in the bathroom, which is a good thing. You know, we kind of
have an opioid epidemic. It's happened here a while back. And we're hoping that-- that's what we were
not going to see. I'd rather have a damaged
door with nobody inside, than a damaged door and
have somebody deceased or in need of help inside. So the door lost tonight,
but nobody lost their life. And that's always a good thing.
