so so [Music] [Music] and just in case you'd forgotten that 2020 was crickets rock and roll those opening sequences will surely have reminded you good evening everybody tens of thousands of people flocking to the melbourne creek ground for tonight's clash between australia and south africa magnificent views across melbourne from the channel 9 chopper and this ground promising to be 70 000 people full this evening it really is a glorious sight a lovely evening too temperature about 22 degrees it's crystal clear and fresh and with me adam gilchrist and ian healy good evening fellas good to see you guys on the other side of the fence it's a bit of a change from this time last year i think i made the comment to you this time last year that if it was like this every night you would never retire and i stand by that it's just all the little bits of hard work in between that hurt you and you had to run through the fireworks last year didn't you just hear this the south americans are taking the field because ricky ponding has won the toss and he's chosen to back first a few bolters in the australian and the south african side's heels interesting there certainly is mark that australian side is all crash and bash right from the word go watch for marsh and warner they are incredible hitters then we've got ponting and hussey and david hussey to hold the side together if needed and then ronke hopes in white to continue the smashing then sean tate back in the bowling line up to really get into the south africans tried and chested south african players more than the australians but still some new faces van yarsfield malcolm and the return of herschel gibbs return to herschel gibbs herschel getz played teamed up with him in the ipl over there in india and he he will be looking to make a big statement this series not just the 2020 but the one day is he still feels like he's got a lot to offer international cricket and you know a bit about albie morkul who played for shane warn's rajasthan royal side he's mourning his brother good striker very good striker the ball but it's his bowling he's got the changes of pace all the toys that you need in this form of the game quick bounce of slow balls keep an eye on him this summer now mark voucher in picture there mark can you hear us yeah i can how's it out there good oh it's fantastic atmosphere a lot of our boys haven't played in front of this amount of people before and a little bit a little bit nervous out here to tell you the truth but uh god's already looking forward to it i think gilly's got a bit of advice for you like you won't hear much sorry mate i've got the biggest ears in the world that i could never hear a thing out here so good luck mate it's going to be good fun thank you very much cheers now the wicket is fantastic too don't you don't worry about this these fellas are looking for 10 and over off the first five six overs south africa looking to break through with early wickets as gilly says changes are paces yorkers and bounces right from the word go and in a word or a figure what's a pass score gilly i think you want minimum eight and over eight to nine and over anything above that's a bit of cream on top fantastic the openers are ready to go ricky potty won the toss australia will bat commentating james brayshaw shane warne and mark taylor thank you mark nicholas yes terrific atmosphere and i tell you what those two guys get there with the yellow shirts they will be nervous don't worry about that everyone's relaxed it's 20 20 it's no longer the five day game but let's see we've got two fairly young inexperienced opens out they're both fine players great strikers of the ball playing in front of i reckon there's probably 55 to 60 000 people inside the ground already they made a huge noise when both sides came out on the ground and it will be machia and tini to start up oh good delivery first up as well a little bit of moving off the seam and bounce and marsh plays a miss evening uh to shane warner to james bracel very nice to be here tub meet in the middle of a reasonable sandwich with you and shane but i tell you what not in physical sense warning just the quality of cricket as the two of you were but i'm talking about nerves here because i've never known morning anyone who isn't nervous in front of 70 000 people yeah it's an awesome sight blue skies the teeny started right on the money first up and you need to do that in australia away but you need to do that every ball is live you can't afford as a bowler to let yourself warm up and get into it same with the batting the running's got to be fierce got to be spot on straight away what's this bloke going to bring to the table tub warner now dave warner who's on strike now number 31 dave warner i've asked ricky potting at the toss about dave warner said it was nice to meet him yesterday and i've seen a bit on him on tv in recent times dave warner's only played a handful of games for new south wales none at first class level played a handful of one days and 20 20 games but boy can he hit the ball i saw him put sean tate on the george giffin stan it looked like for my television replay the other night at the adelaide oval and it's not an easy thing to do when sean tate bowls around 150 clicks so here he is facing his first ball for australia but he's away that'll settle the nerves there'll be nothing worse than making a duck in any form of the game at the mcg and a good selection too michael clark normally has that role of opening the batsman for opening the batting for australia they've gone for a young man in dave warren as you say specifically 2020 he's killed him he slogged the ball out the bark and asked anyone to hit sean tate up on that stand in adelaide combat that's johan berta there he's the captain for these two 2020s and the one-day series [Applause] little hesitation checks he was gone if he hit absolutely gone av de villiers was the fieldsman and the direct hit would have seen dave warner out for one they don't miss too often in the modern game fielders especially the quality of de villiers and i'm with you i reckon he was cold and a little stutter here caused all the problems and he missed by a long way he probably had a little longer than he thought he did av de villiers he's very keen to get rid of that ball quickly i don't think he'd realize that dave warner has hesitated so badly in the running he had a little bit more time to size up the situation and get that throw closer to the stumps so a life for warner in the early over and has he got enough on it he has it's away for four that's how he plays and that's why he's been picked good stroke natini the one thing with the teeny can do he can be a little bit predictable doesn't bowl too many slower balls generally bowls from wide of the crease and angles it across the left-handers this is a good sign for me yeah sure he would be nervous but to get one away early to just clears me down even a close run out these are good signs for warner early good leap too [Applause] another single eight off the first day of a good start for australia [Applause] i'm afraid australia how good does that look boring that shot there i'm getting excited i'm getting excited bill's not here with us so i'm going to stick up for the victorians ray shaw's now living here as well have a look at that it doesn't get much better for that what a sight as mark taylor said probably around 60 odd thousand here at the moment bill that's wonderful it's the mcg does it get better than that and that's stuff on top of the stands that's glare from the sunlight for those who may not have seen it here's sorbet [Applause] i hope bill's listing who's bowling here tubs sorbet left armor a bit of extra bounce he's been here he's been right through the test match series and hasn't bowled a ball apart from the net so he'll be nervous as well don't worry about that he's got a big smile on his face but he'll be dying to get his first game out of the road [Applause] a good shot that's nicely timed as well warner looks in good touch well he may be nervous sausage that he's bought a couple of pies to start with that was short and wide should have gone and then the half volley on leg stump did go [Music] [Applause] this is interesting the latest betfair odds are in australia 1.58 in south africa 268. he's done well there dave warner he checked his shot and then still picked up the single that's what you got to do with this form of the game it's all over in a in 120 deliveries but try and score one off every delivery with the odd boundary that was good the field of dale stein warning the most exciting fast bowler in the game at the moment and uh he's coming on first change by the look yeah it's a bit of a surprise he can swing that ball but i think he's there for more of the control of the game too they get away from straight away from south africa and come on and maybe take impact with the wicket the one thing in 2020 yeah there's a lot happening it all seems fast and it is flat out it's the rock and roll of cricket but some of the basics of cricket don't change in the first with a new ball in the first few hours you still want to take wickets taking early wickets south africa can take early bits against track and still put them on the back foot and what that means australia tend to try and build a partnership and then try and back the over so that'll restrict the score so attack is still the main priority with the ball don't think defense think of wickets oh lovely shot that's just a good cricket shot sean marsh on this occasion on the rise back past the bowler i reckon that's better than a good quick chopped up that is magnificent to have the ability to hit the ball at the top of the bounce straight back down the ground normally when it's hit when it's bouncing like that it's uh through extra cover even point that is magnificent and what we've seen so far gone defensive they've taken all their slips out they're thinking attack i think what the ball was trying to do was get a yorker in there but marshmallows just hit it absolutely creamed it down the ground now clipped over mid wicket i should look for two here feelsman slips jp domini out there get two good over 11 from it none for 19. warner's already 11. sean marsha's eight they both only faced six balls each three fours in the first couple of overs so the young aussie openers have started well tell you what we're getting a feel for tub and that is that this is a very good surface it's exactly the surface you want for this sort of cricket ball's coming on players can trust the bounce get their hands through and both teams you suspect are going to enjoy betting on this pitch at the mcg a game a few nights ago that victoria played here there's a lot of pace and bounce in the wicket probably one of the criticisms of the mcg the wicked so far has been a bit boring and a bit dull but in recent weeks it's had definitely had some pace and bounce of it so everybody will enjoy bowls and the batters [Applause] just because only because david warner picked out the fieldsman there that was hit with more a lot of power [Music] so alby morkal down there but it's the that's the older brother of mourinho who opened the bowling in the test max series [Applause] oh before this time he won't get that one or is he well that's brilliant i gave him no chance at all to get that one i thought that was hit and place well enough for a boundary he clubs the ball warner i'm seeing much of him only in the news highlights because he hasn't like a lot of cricket but when they hit they stay here and that is a terrific piece of field super stuff you need that and that's that gives you confidence as a bowler when you're you filter like albie morgan who then stops at certain four as mark taylor called it that was four he died probably 10 meters to get that super stop that gives a bowl of confidence [Applause] oh they won't stop that only the fence did but it cleared the rope and rodney tucker not for the first time tonight i don't reckon well it is the first time tonight's got his hands in the air i hope we're gonna see a few more of them that's the strength talk about it clubbing the ball that's a hip height delivery that has disappeared over mid on for six it's exciting isn't it a young talent raw young talent now mid on goes back they've identified that as a hitting area for this young man i've got a feeling he's got a few of them actually not just mid on there's another one and the same result wow what a stroke that's two in a row put your mid on back as far as you like i'll go over the square leg put him where you like he said i'm making my debut here for australia where's he [Applause] well he's been 24 of 10 deliveries dave warner so even though the boundaries in tub that's still a long way and that is as clean as you can hit a cricket ball now already johan buerta the captain the south african team's got a problem here he's got mid on back now he's got square leg going back so he's got his third man up now inside the circle so his five men on the off side there on your right of screen are all up saving one now bear in mind for the first six overs only two men allowed outside that circles of dots there you can see you see that big circle there of dots we've got only two men out at the moment square leg and mid on are those two fields men kyra in turn has gone round the wicket and i dare say he probably has got a clue where the ball is that's why that's an edge and that's four one and over 18 from it none for 37 after three [Applause] david white first game for australia 28 runs from 11 deliveries shawn marsh on strike a miss groan around the ground almost a drone of disbelief let's have a look at what this bloke's brought to the table there was his opening salvo he sort of half got that and that thudded into the fence the half volley on leg stump went and then look at that bang all the way and then the next ball a bit shorter and that's gone even further just as big back swinging bang that's well taken mark voucher saved four wides there one of the targets for the batting side is in the first six overs 60 is sort of a target and all the stats and that of the 2020 games if you can reach 60 in the first six overs you you're on target for somewhere around 200 with wickets in hand we talked about a pass score being around 160 but with this start 200 is looking good well well take it great catch short fine leg it's an albie marco again that's his second piece of fine fielding just around the corner sean marsh can't believe it he thought that was four as he thought his drive was a couple of hours ago it's a bit stiff he got a good piece of that and that was very well taken aussies lose their first wicket one for 38. [Music] [Applause] well i've got to give that to you shane warren that looks absolutely superb there the mcg in the foreground city of melbourne in the back lights are on it's beautiful evening it's actually quite cool it's very pleasant evening here in melbourne the australian captain is now out in the middle replacing shawn marsh that's the sort of start you hoped for i suppose as a number three batsman 38 on the board only 3.2 over has gone probably warning the only form of the game he hasn't absolutely dominated as a batsman 2020 he's been an awesome test creator obviously best one-day player you know the game seen for the last 10 years you could comfortably argue this maybe not quite found his feet as yet yeah look we all know he's a class act i think with well ricky will be trying to do in this form of the game he's just struggled to get the feel of it early he's got a couple of first ballers and just the way the game can go so he hasn't really had a lot of opportunity struggled a little bit in the ipl couldn't get many runs he'll be more the man taking that catch had a wonderful ipl he's a very very good qriket he'll see him in the bat later and very handy with the ball too mixes his pace up bowls lots of slowable but i reckon ricky's probably one good innings away from being understanding this form of the game remember they only play one or two a year too [Applause] yeah he mentioned that at the toss ricky potty i said you must be getting an idea of how to play this game and he said well to be totally honest i haven't played a lot of it so i think you're right there warning i still think he's trying to find the absolute method of playing the game [Applause] dave water let one go what's going on there is that he's had a brain fade heading back to uh to ricky he still averages 40 so you know we're putting the boots into a bloke who's played this form of the game pretty well but he's just so dominant in the other two that you think it's only a matter of time before he lights this stage up as well and he's uh got lots uh look at that strike rate 137 average is 40 so nothing wrong with anything he's doing [Applause] it's got that over backward point dave warner it's good batting all the fields were up saving one on the offside and he'll get three for that i'm not sure if he realized third man was up the ball before either he let one go it was back of a length outside the off start this time it wasn't intended to go that fine he wanted to go over point so it probably went finer so everything's going with third man up i'm sure that's a good idea unless you get a ball slower balls wide above stump [Applause] it's a good over from london his first wicket for south africa one for 42. well there's plenty of members in as well enjoying the 2020 cricket absolutely packed down the bottom of the member stand there crowd really is you need to file in it's probably over sixty thousand now i'd say jack kalas never know exactly what to say into the attack what do you say into the defense when you're bowling in this game because uh makaiah and toonie's out he's bowled two overs for 26. oh beautifully timed again from warner and i don't know how he's found the gap there there was about three meters between the two minute point but he's found the boundary again well what we're seeing is he hits the ball dangerously to a lot of parts he's hit straight he's gone square on the onside he's now gone square on the offside 35 runs from 14 balls and that's just a lovely qriket shot there's not a big gap there it's right through the middle [Music] pocket dynamo this play strong hitting the gaps not afraid to go over the top [Applause] good change up from kallus slow ball kalos has got that happy knack for south africa a bit of a golden arm that he can take a wicket when there's a partnership forming it's only been eight but these these two guys end up dangerous as we're seeing wow 35 or 15 balls four fours two sixes gotta think of your plan and try and execute am i buying slower balls are bowling short and balling wide and full what am i bowling it doesn't matter when you're rolling to warner down the deck over wide on for four again 50 up in 4.3 overs i'll tell you what if you're ebola for south africa warner you'd be getting nice and invisible at the minute because you do not want any piece of this 39 from 16. well i reckon dale stein it's interesting he's not bowling he brought his name up earlier james i maybe they're saving him for the end but i reckon now they need to try and get rid of this warner before he does too much damage 4.3 overs one for 50. and i reckon australia's target as we said would have been around 60 way ahead of the raid at the moment i look for two here mid on fairly deep settle for one i reckon dale steins pulled the senior player trick tim i got all the wickets for you in the test matches skipper you weren't here i'm not mulling until this bloke's out get him out not come on he's smart 18 wickets in the test match series for dale stein bold superb ultra purple here took 10 wickets in the match here to go with his 76 runs [Applause] settle for two oh he has no problems coming here ricky of course a wonderful test match boxing day uh very close to making two hundreds in the match he's got an awesome record at this venue quite catch that but you won't have to be out here for too long before he does [Applause] [Applause] that should have gone to spec savers book an eye test online with the test experts [Applause] helicopters doing a few miles up there who's gone the other side of the ground now there's the yara river there's crown towers right there bottom right of your picture city on the left i can sense it in your voice you're jealous what a city tubs i'm just trying to think he's done the airbrushing on those shots never looked that good [Applause] is now under the attack actually got a view into warnings private suite at the top of the crown towers there as well but this is what south africa need and that is to get uh some wickets and get the big strike bowler into the action awesome summer from dale stein such an exciting prospect going to see sean taylor a little later on and he'll have the miles per hour meter right up and this bloke has had an awesome time you can come up for drink any time you like james you're more than welcome lovely place down there always look after us [Applause] oh where's that going that's over the fence down the fine leg how did has disappeared into the crowd 46 from 18 balls and that's his third maximum [Applause] i'm not sure if that's a top edge or he certainly was trying to get it down to fine leg just helped on its way no that's out of the middle that's a terrific shot that's 50 off 19 balls four sixes in that what's this international qriket about it's not that tough let's rock up to 75 000 people the mcg and start creaming him out the park there's some catching practice to the crowd well played david warner 52 off 19. wow he picks the ball up early doesn't he that's about 140 odd k's that bought [Applause] i'll give us a spell he lived 250 never play a shot like that that's unbelievable [Applause] tucks in the fine leg [Applause] pointing scampers through for a single and all the feels at the moment they're all backing off aren't they they're all just trying to happen to give him one why wouldn't they be five fours and four sixes in his 53 well to deposit a bloke bowling 150 k's down the ground 13 14 rows back is just an extraordinary thing to do it's an amazingly skillful thing to do also got to be amazingly strong look at those numbers [Applause] oh pointing hammers one back at state well now ricky potting i think i can speak to ricky you got me mate yeah i got you man uh what have you done wrong you've hammered one back to the ball and he stops it warner puts him over the fence yeah i'm not worried i'm just trying to get him single what's it like watching from that non-strikers end with this young dave warner it's been all right so far mate um i'm doing my best trying to get him as hard as i can but more importantly trying to get him back on strike he's uh hitting him pretty clean in a minute that's about as good as striking as i've seen from a bloke on debut how have you seen it from your end yeah pretty much the same i don't think you'll see much better that last one you hit overstaying over midwicket was as clean and ball as you'll ever see here can't beat cover it's okay [Applause] 15 from the over one for 69. [Music] so six over's gone one for 69 now that is the end of the field of restrictions or some of the restrictions should i say now allowed more than two minutes to actually have five men outside that circle that we talked about a few hours ago so johan berta the captain off spinner has got himself into the attack and straight away he's got the five men outside the circle [Applause] well the off air bander in this commentary box has to be heard to be believed you can only imagine what's happening at home and in the crowd it's it's just extraordinary this young man dave warner has ripped the thing to shreds [Applause] actually interesting now how warner plays the spinners we've seen he handles the pace okay and no issue he likes to hit between that wide mid-iron mid-wicket range but he's also got a wide range of strokes it's interesting to see what the captain of south africa does here obviously particularly trying to fire him in fast and flat at the start soon again i'd be interested in what sort of shots warner wants to play with he wants to use his feet hit him down the ground and hit straight or try and sweep him out and get down on one knee and pick him up over the fence or he'd be smart and have a look at him for a couple of balls and just try and nudge him around i think the adrenaline's pumping i think there's one place he's trying to hit it that's out the ground yep dead straight i reckon dead straight back over his head it's the shortest boundary here at the mcg fires in the leg stump just a single [Applause] preaching to the converted here warning but i reckon it's one of the great things about this form of the game is the slow bowlers have really come into it and played an enormous role we saw that in india in the series you played in the games we've seen here often they're the ones that make the difference with the scoring rate yeah i think what the batsmen think well they see us spinners are stephen fetchers they just rock up slower pace and try and hit it out the fence [Applause] but really well sometimes when there's no pace on the ball when there's no pace on the ball and you have to make the pace yourself as a batsman sometimes it can be more difficult because you have to swing a bit harder and that's when he can make mistakes and the spinners have been pretty successful in this form of the game it's always interesting because the batsman are trying to slog him and the ball is actually trying to take wickets so it's a good battle to watch [Applause] interesting to see cameron white down there on the sideline with the pads on schedule to come into about number seven but so the australians will have a sort of a floating batting order at the stage got a bit of an under 12's look about it isn't it all the boys got the bets on hoping they're gonna be the next one out there they can hit a nice clean ball too cameron what oh nice [Applause] 69 was the score after six over so there were nine better than what you said it was a bit of a target i suppose so what happens now in these overs now they look for ones or keeping boundaries now you keep going and that's probably why they took cameron whiting cos they've got office to such a good start [Applause] you put another guy on that can actually continue that to keep it going keep the momentum going it's one for 74. a warm welcome back to the mcg australia one for 74 from seven dave warner on debut 54 from 24. ricky ponting out there he's made 10 from nine joining me michael slater and adam gilchrist oh there's another one gone way way skyward and just out of reach of avery de villiers i think it was it was voider in fact the captain who had a big job on his hands but couldn't clinch a catch to take the second wicket [Applause] [Music] [Applause] i tell you what guys it's nice to join you but i thought i was in my debut in the commentary box it was a bad piece of luck for the aussie captain there buddy survived [Applause] that one will be wide there's some serious pace there 145.2 but you feel that stain may be getting carried away and feeling like he has to break through quickly given the start of the aussies i've seen asada pulling up out the back the drug testers are here this warner fella it's the first six letters of the surname that worry me he's got a pigeon disturbing the australian captain gives us a bit of time to reflect on what has been an extraordinary display here's lit this famous stadium up [Applause] oh that one's flown through so a little bit of a battle on here for the australian captain but warner just spare a thought he has not played a first class game he's played seven one days for new south wales if she averages 57 at a strike rate of 133 and so far in the kfc big bash for the blues his strike rate's about oh 160 you can see why and slats they are big hits they're not just going over the rope they're clearing the fence at the mcg that's a beauty from ricky pony and you'll just see a subtlety won't you in the approach ricky ponning for the initial part of his innings we'll base it around a proper technique he'll play the big shot yeah but he he'll play proper qriket shots but so is warren i thought you were out there gilly i thought it was you the way it started he's only half the size of me but he's got all the power of any batsman around the world i have to agree with what the point warning made uh in the last over keep this momentum going now they've got they've got the momentum they need to keep trying to inject that enthusiasm warner and even ricky there looks like he wants to keep going and trying to uh reach the boundary cameron white pat it up i think that's the way to go keep loading up those big hitters and try to really bat the south africans out of the game yeah good running it's tip and run it's like uh as we played growing up jb out the back and the kids still do tip and run 20 20 qriket and yeah batting strategy gilly is there a is there a thought that you you blast to get your 10 runs in over if that's what you've keyed up to do at the start of the game then once you achieve that you you taper off to the end of the over i guess it depends how many wickets in hand in regards to the six over mark but if you can get on top in early in the over it's a nice position to be in ricky down the ground again there but uh well i keep i will mention the word momentum a lot and and that's what it's about and you mentioned the word tip and run that's what it feels like when you're in the fielding team when the the batting side is flowing the ball seems to be going to the boundary but every other ball in between that doesn't reach the fence it just seems they're picking up easy singles so that's very very difficult to stop when you're the fielding side he also mentioned the backyard slats i don't remember too many kids hitting him into the next suburb you're right there he goes again he's just clubbing them this is just something to behold if you want acceptance in victoria and you're new south welshman he's going the right way about it 55 59 in fact from 26 one for 86. [Applause] sean marsh the only batsman out so far nine from nine but 59 from 26. the lights are on at the mcg but he's setting the stadium of light warner ricky ponning now smashing that straight to mid wicket it's the captain who's just trying to slow things down his first over was okay only going for five there's been a bit of talk about this double-sided bat dave warner used before i wonder if you'll call for that for the spinner nice boy to jamming it in nicely there just tying it up it's often a difficult job for the spinner in the 2020 jv but he's doing a fine job the skipper leading by example here [Applause] i'll tell you what this is ricky ponting wheels that into the onside field total opposite of what we saw this time last year gilly you were playing india had a horrible start to their innings and really shot the game to bits in the first half hour this has set this up for a wonderful evening fantastic entertainment i i just don't know where to look here i've got a monitor i've got the whole crowd i was out there at the opener and it was just brilliant to be there but very exciting night ahead here [Applause] oh there's another one that's into the stand you've been warned you've been wanted in fact this bloke is here to stay slats off just as that's left the bat said to myself get up in case it's not going to reach but the ease with which he strikes the ball and then the power that's there for such a small man is amazing see him come down it's a fluent swing of the bat and look at that just keep flying again 20 rows back and a beautiful catch taken in there in the out of there there's a fieldsman there there's a man at lyon and he just watched it sail over his head i wouldn't mind picking up the bad he's got but it's the way he's using it i mean we we talk often about the modern bat and that's probably a little bit thicker and he's toying with the fact of the using the double-sided bat but he is just hitting them sweetly as the timing don't worry about the double-sided back for the reverse laps if you can put it 20 rows back just stick with what you got [Applause] [Applause] this is a staggering performance by a youngster dave warner his name is you might have read about him prior to this match uh certainly new south wales were aware who he is but around australia you now know this man can play has not played a first class game has already been picked up by an lp ipl club the delhi daredevils i believe and i bet he's wishing he hadn't signed on the dotted line yet because his price has just gone up oh that's great control from ricky pony there we see a little bit of subtlety just using the pace as we see a change in the bowling as well so much of the focus has been on warner and so it should be but spoke about ricky ponding in this form of the game and how perhaps he hasn't been as dominant as he has with the other two but he's starting to work into the innings beautifully 21 from 17. that was a very nice piece of creek [Applause] there's a chance here there's a chance all right he misses he's rue that south africa alba morkul is the the changer for south africa you talk slats about how young warner has signed on in the ipl that is a genuine sign of things to come no first class cricket i heard uh or read a quote from a young player from queensland who is only playing it for queensland at the moment said i'm loving playing for queensland i think it was nathan reardon a batsman who hits it not dissimilar to dave warner and he said i'd love an ipl contract though no mention of australia i'm not saying he doesn't want to play for australia but a sign of of the times [Applause] that's gone not as far as ricky potting wanted it to and dale stein taking comfortable chance ricky ponning toe-ended it i think but it's a hard match to follow with dave warner going at the other and maybe maybe he just needed to noodle it around 21 2 for 97. well there we have the australian captain just falling trying to clear the road one more time but we've got with us uh out on the field mark voucher we get keeping to south africa vouch it's adam gilchrist here how are you mate yeah knocks about gilly well you'd be reasonably happy with that breakthrough it's nice to always stem the flow a little bit but what is the plan in the huddle there for young dave warner uh to get him out basically um pretty we couldn't have done that uh two balls ago but uh yeah the wicket looks pretty good um i think the guy's a little bit nervous up front and uh they got off to a bit of a fly on the g9 2020 cricket so difficult to bring back the momentum and they've certainly got it at the moment we just hopefully that wicked man can maybe string one or two uh good overs together young and try switching momentum a bit the skipper coming on just he went for one six but he generally stemmed the flow of it you must have been very happy with that that may have led to that downfall of that wicked yeah for sure you bought a couple of dot balls which is always great in 2020 quicker [Applause] you see warner there out to deep backwards square and the return comes in [Applause] we're just looking at ricky getting out here about she's uh obviously tried to clear the rope well caught there by stain but but batch with uh alby morkel here we mentioned about him at the top of the program to be a guy to look out for he's a guy that has impressed certainly in one day but particularly 2020 cricket for a little while for south africa yeah if you look at our voting it's like he's probably the most experienced along with jacques so he's just trying to change up the pace of a couple of slow balls hopefully it works [Applause] well thank you very much batch enjoy the rest of the evening and we'll keep enjoying all the entertainment that you guys provide for us here but two for 99 with uh one ball left in the 10th over but interesting to hear him say that uh all you want to do is get the guy that's flowing out yeah you're not wrong and it was a run-out opportunity that they missed and you can't miss those chances can you we've seen a couple of run out chances bombed and you can just see the influence of one man how it can just impact and take the momentum very quickly away from you but warner you know one thing he's going to keep pressing as hard as he started very good but there's a lot of gaps and now they're running hard for two and we'll come back it's an outstanding start for the aussies but in saying that they're halfway through their overs the hundred coming up they're well on course for a 200-plus score two for 101 now [Music] for over 20 years combank has been supporting women in cricket so that thousands more girls can comebank proud supporter of women in cricket [Music] it's just a fabulous site here at the mcg we're looking for a 70 000 strong crowd and the atmosphere the players will be able to be six feet apart and not hear each other yelling at each other that's how intense it becomes dave hussey now [Applause] good running gilly i've got to ask you it's such a frenzied approach that when you're out there i mean your decision making is it the same as test cricket is it the same as one day cricket i think it's more intense than both oh there's a and not a very pretty face in the crowd there but i like the sentiment uh we don't need gilly out there we got dave warner he's on fire but i think it's it's more intense than any other form of the game because it is so condensed you've got that mind the battle of the mind against the bowler how early do you need to go how early do you need to look for the boundary so with that the pressures that come with that there's no time to correct the errors that you make too so if you get it wrong you're in trouble for toe end down there to third man so we we saw slack some good running there continued from warner we saw in the test series where a couple of key moments where drop catches little bad spells of bowling great partnerships obviously the one with stain and dooming here at the mcg was a standout partnership of that whole series but you do have time in test cricket to claw your way back not in this version if you make the wrong decision under pressure you talk about this crowd and not being able to hear each other there's a lot going on in your mind 70. and there's a big shout and they're pleading with the umpire give him out please not out we talk about thinking out there gilly sometimes the less you think the better i reckon if you had a a little uh electron into this bloke's mind it's as clear as a bell he's just seeing it and hitting it this time he didn't that's pitch downside leg a good decision but uh it's a pretty uncomplicated approach from warner your spot on jb it it really the simplest game plan is just have a clear head and watch the ball instinct that's all about instinct this one we've lost that ball i guess that's a bit of interesting there slats jv that is a clear mind a little bit of room to get or length to get underneath point it up and as you say nick that ain't coming back in a hurry see that's the problem with you south australians you think too much blue burgers we just don't think [Applause] that is enormous he hasn't even moved well you've just got to laugh this guy's on dave hasn't played a first class game and he's in control like you just don't see it is it the first or the second or third time in the history of the game that someone has debuted without playing a first-class match that is just such a clean swing of the bat he's not trying to overhit it he's so confident obviously in his ability not just to clear the rope but the boys are happy too but he's clearing the fence 20 rows back [Applause] just watch this running too watch david hussey here there he goes again that is just that is what i just find amazing as we end the over the way this game has improved the pace of the game is unbelievable after 11 overs 2 for 114. dave hussey will actually get the strike he's got two from two balls and just to fill you in that uh dave warner describes himself as a pest yes he's proving that this evening funny you've got to laugh at this innings it is just so unbelievable and loving well he's not showing much loving out there i'm loving him [Applause] nicely played and that's the idea i suppose for dave hussey now he can just work on that get to the other end well the other thing is the three figures for dave warner 36 balls 80 runs he's only 20 short there's only ever been one international 20 20 century chris gale i think it was and over 50 balls so he's on track i don't want to put the moz on this young man but he's only 20 away and if he keeps going at the rate he's going he's going to smash chris gail's record look at that six maximums you think rich you'd like that strike rate [Applause] i'll i'll let you give it a go gilly alby markle trying to bala dot ball and achieves it as i mentioned had the uh the good fortune of playing against if you would see that dot ball left against alby markle in the ipl and he really does have all the varieties that you need he's got a very good quick bumper but he's got the slow ball and obviously here just trying to jam up dave warner with some yorkers on some length there though and it's been just heaved out to the deep mid wicket you take you'd settle for one one of the things bowlers often try and do especially the faster bowlers is when they see a batsman advance slam it in short to try and jam them had no effect on this bloke i reckon they've tried it three times and every time the ball has disappeared yeah it's the the variation of length and he's been able to adjust that's what is so impressive about the hitting tonight and gilly you must just watch him he's a left-hander there's so many lefties in the game these days and you just must be going wow the man of my heart i have just enjoyed this like you wouldn't believe i was really looking forward to getting back into this atmosphere and just and watching and and just seeing how these new guys go the energy that is he's injected into this crowd and the whole atmosphere is amazing and we saw a great shot before there of the of his team teammates who some who he probably doesn't know very very well because he he hasn't exactly taken the morning first class quick at a few one day games a few 20 20 games but this has just been extremely impressive [Applause] so strong through that extra cover region dave hussein they'll come back for two there's plenty of twos on offer it's over so quickly this form of the game but the fitness aspect how do you have to be fitter to play this because it's so dynamic you are if you've uh given a decent performance battered for a while and then maybe bowled or we get kev you are very very exhausted by the end of these games uh maybe a different exhaustion exhaustion from a test match and a 50 over game but certainly you know there's just so much going on but the fitness levels the pace of this game is unbelievable i made the point before about the running between wickets and just then we as soon as that ball left the bat you could hear dave hussey on the effects mike saying two two two there's there's no doubt in their mind now they these guys hit it they know exactly they're calculated they know exactly what they want to do and what they want to achieve it should be the last ball of the mortgage and he follows dave hussey that gives himself room he'll always favor the offside and dave warner is he running himself out now he gets back and most of the mcg crowd go thank goodness we don't want the entertainment to finish just yet two for 119. [Music] the six bowlers have completed two overs and it's young boy to the captain bringing himself back into the attack [Applause] still a crowd rushing in to the mcg the noise is phenomenal [Applause] very well if you can't get a bloke out the next best thing to do is get him off strike and that's what they've done with warner the last 10 balls he's hardly seen it and therefore his momentum gilly to use your word has slowed and so is the innings and that won't be lost on on dave hussey who is a great guy working it around it'll be interesting to see what his approach here is [Applause] well that's not a bad approach i think he's thought well warner can do it so am i i'm getting bogged down here i'll just head out i'd always heard about the curse of saying trying to predict what a player is going to do i thought it was going to be a little dink to get warner back one strike but what a response there you see the replay here just step back a bit a bit of freedom with the arms and over it goes that's nicely played putting the pressure on the man in the deep will he's a huge job for the man out in the outfield and particularly square it's such big boundaries that you've got to come in with that four fists to the boundary road you're gonna make such a b line and there we see another maximum it's uh some of the best hitting you'll ever witness in tonight's 2020 fixture and just to let you know that the only international 2020 international 100 chris gale 50 balls so warner 81 from 38 so we'll keep a uh [Applause] real focus on that [Applause] that century was in the opening match of the inaugural world 2020 so the 2020 world cup in south africa against south africa so they they've felt the brunt of this sort of assault before but you mentioned mick two all bowlers involved two overs each there's a lot of theories that go around about bowling changes and how many you should bowl for we see wow dave hussey has not he's got enough of it oh dear i couldn't quite see did it clear the rope the umpire rodney tucker there just checking off the bat didn't quite look like he'd got enough of it but it it hung up it kept going a b de villiers who has taken some great catches throughout the test series lunges and through the fingertips and that's inside the rope for four more but uh well the heart was in the mouth there but i just say i don't quite know what the theory is we could go in you have all these pre-planned ideas but when you have an assault like this first from warner but now we're seeing it a little bit from ricky and dave hussey it's very hard to plan for that one was a half tracker and they're coming back for two and this is impressive stuff he's made it the little fellas made it they're going up just to check but uh i don't think there's any doubt but dave hussey has decided that he's going to put the pedal to the middle as well two for 132 there's seven overs remaining and he's home yeah always so wise to check but that's an easy one for the third umpire and after complimenting the running between wickets the last thing i needed was a run out i'll be pleased to see this is a knockout decision paul rifle the third umpire this evening caught him in the lift before the game going up to his vantage point he looked a tad nervous i'll tell you what tell me these people aren't being entertained 70 plus thousand this is alive and well this form of the game yeah and it's because of these sort of displays that everyone just gets carried away with i just love the richie benno line that test qriket the parents take the kids to it this form the kids take the parents to it and it's just so true that it's uh it's the rock and roll form we keep using that tag as well it's just so exciting three hours three and a half hours start to finish and we're unraveling yet another australian star dave warner 82 from 39 on strike now and teeny back into the attack that's what i love about it boys is the opportunity that it opens up to guys never played first class quicker and here he is entertaining probably the world the cricketing world anyway yeah i'll have a piece of that he says and it's not the maximum but warner keep it going son well if this is rock and roll cricket this bloke's thrash metal is 86 from 40 balls and he has hit it to all parts full toss half tracker half volley doesn't matter and that looked like almost a bit of a mishit compared to what we've seen throughout his inning so far still enough muscle there the bat just turning in his hand as he struck the ball but what have we got guys 10 balls 14 runs the countdown has begun this is like the the whacker again when you were closing down on viv richard's record and from my experience the last thing on his mind would be the world record i certainly had no idea about it probably one of the most asked questions i've ever had sure you didn't know i had no idea matthew hogart knew he'd roll the wide this one is through the covers it's going to take some stopping and just rounds it up and dave warner as you'd expect just a tad sluggish between the wickets now the adrenaline it'd still be there the nerves are gone he's probably sucking in the big ones how much fun do you think he's having jb what about his family and friends and you know i mean this is just an amazing story a guy's never played a first-class game played a handful of these games in one day as he's now got the australian colors on the most famous sporting stadium on the globe we're a little biased and uh he has just done a job on these south africans what are his club mates thinking who he was probably running around in club career with about two weeks ago [Applause] it's herschel gibbs who is an amazing character in the field amazing character full stop he can turn it on he still uh feels he's he's got what it takes in the shorter form of the game and i dare say he does if he says that you played with him gilly in the ipl herschel yeah he's he's a what we describe in the uh sports psych terms as a mozzie he's uh not a thinker or a feeler he's a mozzie he buzzes and relates to that he's fantastic though herschel he's uh he will use this this campaign this 2020 and certainly the one day as a chance as i said at the top of the program to really show that he's got a lot to offer south african cricket in the air and we'll go on dave hussey again giving himself room in the end had to slow the shot down and toe ended it to the man that ran around to uh extra carver it was a b de villiers this time hanging onto it so dave hussey it's a nice contribution only 19 but kept it going three for 140 australia cameron white the new australian batsman he's come up the order just slightly and it's a good move because he is another guy he just hits a long ball well played by dave hussey but similar to ricky ponting when you've got a person putting on the sort of show warner is you need the players at the other end to contribute strongly 21 from 19 thunder was very good and now 19 from 12 is also very good that's rowing your side of the boat so three for 140 australia really looking about 210 you'd have to say you think it might change though if warner gets out and should be out de villiers swallows it in the deep the crowd don't like it i'm sure at home you're saying oh you were so close but he is a born entertainer there's no doubt about it he set the stadium alive and will walk off to a standing ovation welcome to international cricket dave warner 89 from 43 balls that is making your presence felt terrific feeling for this young man to walk off 70 000 plus the mcg and now his teammates stand and applaud a wonderful performance and they're good on him don't be too disappointed sonny look just that that realization that it's all over the disappointment but gee i hope he's looked up and really taken that all in he will remember that for a long time and see him and around the wicked the length was there they're the ones he's been hitting out of the park but just hit it a bit high on the bat and the ever safe hands out there of ab de villiers but uh what a bit of work there from dave warner yeah mike he's trying to get himself going it's a huge job for him but let's not forget that the last two deliveries have been wicked so antina is on a hat trick so caught up in the warner innings and what he was going to achieve if he was to get the hundred that with cairntini is on a hat trick and probably a stronger chance in this form than any other form because the batsmen still go for it dot ball to finish it's four for 140. [Applause] 440 changing the commentary it'll be shane warren mark taylor and mark nicholas to take you to the end of these 28 remember the name folks and remember the face he's 22 he plays for the east club in sydney just up from bondi beach and tonight he's smoked him 89 in 43 balls and he's never played a first class match now we're gonna scamper blokes in yellow harry up and down the pitch trying to turn this into 200 breathtaking magical entertainment from warner and with the lineup to come white and hussy at the middle at the moment it's wide who's just gone to the crease michael has he's out they've got a couple loot ronkey james hopes extraordinary and even warning is breathless i tell you what every club cricketers just got the phone and ringing their mates said i'm playing for australia next week i am going to play for straight do you see what he did wow what an innings from dave water he said a massive platform australia looking for 200 plus here wasn't it great to watch and fair credit to the selectors for picking him too hasn't played a first-class game basically he's a clubby he's come in and to 80 000 people here at the mcg and smacked 89 off 43 balls and some quality ballers well selected for the for the panel as well you feel a bit ordinary if you're the medium pacer in the opposition playing with sutherland with someone one weekend but you've had a few too many the night before and he got a bowl of him first up wouldn't he oh how lucky is that this is yuan butter to cameron white and he did watch out about put on the selectors for picking you i suppose the only problem is that they're now probably sitting down thinking why didn't we pick him for the one day as well he's not actually in the one day squad but after anything's like that they're probably wishing they had a picnic he might be tomorrow morning in the last minute he's the sort of guy who can win your game in 10 overs as he may will have done tonight he goes off the 10 overs in a 50 overground wow he could be he could be 60 or 70 on his own [Applause] you've obviously nailed him down for the rajasthan royals have you morning unfortunately unfortunately a little bit too late i think he signed with the delhi daredevils greg shepard that wonderful brain and coach of the victorian team has seen something in domestic cricket and sign him and unfortunately we've missed out he would have been quite handy at the rider stand royals i think glenn's got him isn't he [Applause] yeah he'll enjoy that i think pigeon will enjoy not bowling to him it's four for 145 someone's with a linter energy yeah of course aren't you yeah especially with their great energy deals either of you guys see my wicketkeeping get a great energy deal switch to a linter energy supporting your home team if they continue the present rate the australians will make 193 well they have to be on for 200. with the wickets in hand that's the beauty of this situation six wickets in hand for the australians and so much quality so many natural ball strikers to come five overs of the innings left [Applause] oh good oh no no no no i just thought dominique judged it beautifully i was gonna say how good is he but not good enough is the answer as he gets their life that's about anything he's done wrong so far this summer jp dominic has taken catches his feelings been fantastic in the test series made 100 here [Applause] went a long way to winning the game for south africa in that test match here we love him australia's really taken to him he's just played wonderful cricket he's quite a talent though i have to say the talk of the town right now is called david warner heals it downstairs yeah thanks margaret there's no shortage of atmosphere down here that's for sure because of this man and now your first 43 balls for australia weren't too bad dave yeah it's very exciting to get out there you know once you hit that first bound and the crowd was roaring i just couldn't stop now did nerves play a part at all or did it feel good right from the word go i just felt good right from right where go yeah fantastic this wicket looks very true you can trust it yeah definitely yeah balls coming out nicely especially oh that's big that's big as well it's another one david warner is going off down here now too this show continues so cameron white first into the first into the crease and now he's into the act he is the clean hitter too oh big hitter of the ball hope he keeps going here are you boys are in good shape but you've got the platform to work into a 220 score was there any plan before the innings uh yeah i mean marcia trying off to a solid start let's get five off first five over 50 60 from there keep going and that's all they that's all five five over ten and over ten and over right from the word go there's south african pad that's high that's high oh you might have hit the road now he hasn't chucked alice takes a great catch even under the urging of david warner get up hit up but uh cameron white doesn't come off for that one at all what's practice like in these 20 20s in the lead up to this 2020 you blokes just smashing it everywhere in the nets i know you obviously the bowlers get trying to hit their three lengths the batsman trying to hit their zones and basically that's how you do it out here so is that how you are processing you've got your real definite hitting zones that you'd like to stay into and the bowlers want to get you into other zones yeah definitely in the v and i definitely have a midwifery it's my zone it wasn't much of a be in your wagon wheel tonight i guess it's hard to uh to get your hitting through the covers here's your sixes tell us which one was your favorite uh probably uh one over me wicked off stain that one wasn't too bad either yeah did that feel good right out of the middle that was very premeditated that one there was a beauty loved every moment of it so the flip over fine leg was pre-meditated you're just to walk inside it finally could come up and you're hoping for a four maybe yeah i saw him actually looking at the square leg so i thought it was going to be a bumper and i just ducking tucked it it is thinking on your feet that is for sure david can you how would by the way how would you bowl to you uh i don't ask why i don't bother what so now it's alby morkul again so you've you've had your hitboy that's good feeling you've had your first hit for australia make the family all down here have you ever got them here to have a look at that or is it on telly for them now i'll tell you for mom and dad but my brother and my girlfriend down here same as my uncle and brothers mate mate you've turned on a wonderful show for them congratulations hope the night continues well for you thanks cheers mike what a story it is 22 years old david warner 89 from 43 bulls seven fours and six sixes and he hasn't played a first-class game a staggering performance imagine the blokes down at east or whatever the beer in the pub and their mates just being on telly really has to go does go tight all giving it out the winner is hershel gibbs who's brilliant [Applause] fast and dead-eyed a little strike for the south africans that'll mean a lot to them at this stage because it hasn't been good going for them tonight [Applause] just quietly and the way that they know best south africa are getting themselves back into this game australia suddenly six for 154 four wickets have fallen in a flash a brilliant bit of fielding from herschel gibbs it's just done for michael hassie cameron white was superbly caught on the boundary by jacques callis the judgment in that was just top class gibbs is so quick and so often the direct hit wins david hussey went warner himself went teeny profiting from a full length but while we were talking to david warner with ian healy jacques cullis took a wonderful catch really has got a good length going from wide on the crease he's got the ball much fuller what a good take this was mark nice little two and a half overs from south africa actually four wickets they've taken since halfway through the 14th over that was a good catch that was well struck from cameron white unfortunately from cameron he just picked the longest boundary on the ground it was only about a meter short but there it is four wickets for about 14 runs in the last two and a half hours that's four for 15 off 17 deliveries and as we've seen all summer south africa one fight back after australia get ahead and then topsy turvy seesaw battle through the whole summer south africa always fight they always come at you australia's got to be careful now give themselves a few balls to get in they can still reach 190 probably even though they have had a couple of bad overs one guy comes off the last three overs they get 190. [Applause] james hopes he's come out mccarran tina has bought him two beautiful yorkers in a row he gets the third one away for it for a single you just say that the crowd now just quiet down a little bit as you say sean i think the first thing australia got to do is make sure they get to about 180 185 and as you say if someone can come off in these last three overs they'll make 190 plus which i'll still take some chasing mind you well on a good pitch the reckoning is something like 165 being par this is a terrific over from mantini one thing the uh south africans will do when they next see david warner in brisbane that's on tuesday night is have a deep mid-wicket probably from the off to it was the one area where the inexperience of butter probably we have three overs and two balls of the innings left and we have 70 000 people or thereabouts having a party the other thing with finish off and over with both sides we know momentum is important in all sports and especially in qriket but in this version of the game when it's so fast and it's furious and it's so rock and roll as we call it you must go in with that momentum it's important you had such a great start from warner and co and then to go on a bit of a lull going and give south africa hope to come out on a flat pitch big crowd and actually get off to a flyer it's important australia finish strong oh it'll be four pretty unlucky as far as mccarrantini is concerned we'll bother over that quality and finish it with the boundary cruel at six for one six one couple for james hopes five for luke rocky australia just having to address a little problem here south africa buzzing beautifully time stroke that is we're talking about past scores and what is a past score in the ipl this year there was 57 games and around 160 eight and over was about par if you got that batting first you'd have to bowl and field really well and hold all your catches if the opposition got 60 runs off the first six overs chasing one sixth they generally won quite easily and this is a bigger ground here at the mcg than what you play in india what a fantastic stroke we've seen it from tendulkar off and on now watch it again from lu ronke bigger ground and some more improvisation might mean a bigger score for australia he's a dangerous player luke rocky happens to be quite often for west australia in one day cricket and this form of the game comes out blazing he's got some shots of his own and he can score particularly quickly what riches adam gilchrist brad had in luke ronke and ricky ponding is i think able to pick us up ricky yeah gotcha you got some stroke players yeah we have yeah we got on the bat fairly late down the order as well um wall was obviously bringing up the top and you know should we all see what shawn marshall's done for us in monday qriket as well you got uh white and ronky and husty and those sort of guys coming in it's pretty exciting stuff now you're gunning for i imagine 200 your target sorry i lost you there mate 200 you're thinking about 190 200 yeah 190 be pretty good title i think yeah as we said coming into the game that might be six this might be out ricky oh good catch good catch mccarrantini he just had to adjust tremendous tape [Applause] you see that ricky or not yeah i saw that i actually off the bat thought it might have been going over his head but um we've got to stop doing this every time we have a chat when you're on the boundaries edge your wicked falls yeah it happened in the test match as well didn't it i don't like talking to you anymore they did i'll get off here's tubby i said that was a good catch as ricky ponting said i thought i was going to go over his head end up dying on him and he judged it pretty well in the end seven for 168. he just has to rethink continue he thinks he's going to take it waist high and he's watching the ball really closely and just there he realizes he's got to go and a terrific terrific catch [Music] yeah super catch really dipped on me hey what's the wicket like from up here and looking at it this morning it looked like it's really flat and a pretty good pace yeah it is it's um i actually thought it might have been a bit last couple of weeks just because it's the test one brought up i mean the test run didn't have uh you know great pace in it but um it's actually got through quite nicely tonight and i think [Applause] i think we've got problems with the ricky's mic so we'll get back to the play and again just a little problem nathan bracken coming in now to not join james hope so ricky talking about 190 there's two overs left after this one one ball left in this over i reckon one of the australian players grabbed all of his mic says no not talking to him anymore time to talk to those blokes we lose a wicket that's good i'm barring good bowling two from dale stein seven for 170. it's a score card that david warner will want to keep for the rest of his life 89 from 43 balls the first time he's ever played cricket for australia the first time he's ever played anything could have first class ring to it ben hill from the house looks absolutely startled by the whole thing i guess you just don't want to be compared to david warner nor did ricky ponding or david hussey or sean marsh or anybody it was a staggering performance seven fours and six sixes and somehow johan butter and the south africans can smile and can fight and compete as if their very lives depend upon it by no means are they out of this game i was just about to say this this guy albie mork has been a bit of uh spoken about so far but he's a very smart cricketer you'll generally find at the end of things slower balls wider off stump and he doesn't mind the odd bounce and he's got a pretty good bumper too he often finished the overs in the ipl though i think chennai super kings he played for so he actually did a wonderful job you'll see all the guys square here on the off side your ball short or ball yorkers or slower balls wider off stump will be his will be his plan and does a pretty good job yeah it's unusual field isn't it they've got those four men that shane warren talked about on the offside saving one there's four men in the deep on the leg side no one saving one on the onside though as i speak the final league comes up to save a one it's because we've never changed about it with james hopes on strike more of an accomplished player still not actually going to go back to that field the third man comes up finally goes back [Applause] he's done well to time that james hopes got plenty of it ten balls left in the innings moments like this really count an excellent delivery somehow somehow connected with and scored from key thing is not to waste balls here that'll be two more at least the key thing is dot balls are out of the equation as far as the batting side is concerned and that's the real hard thing about this ground the mcg is trying to stop those twos the outfield is so vast even though you've got four men on the on side that is already the second two in this over on the on sides just so hard to stop them big gaps between those fields but in the deep that's two more that's the perfect example of mark taylor who's just telling us it is a big expanse out there not for the first time tonight i'm surprised there's only four fielders on the leg side and five on the off side there's a number of times not least when david warner was in when he felt that the south africans had to switch that five leg side and particularly with the man filling the space out of straight-ish deep mid-wicket but still we have the for saving one offside plus long off back [Applause] this is fine bowling just as warning picked maybe morgan with just subtle variations in pace and a lot of heart and skill to go with it it's what it takes to bowl at the death in this sort of situation you need a massive heart you need to believe in yourself and you you've got to have a very precise skill and it takes a lot of practice it's very hard to rock up and do it might only be a single this time and is another reasonable over for the south africans at this stage seven for one seven eight seven for 178 six balls left in the inning stain steaming in as he's done all summer this time having the bowl as full as he possibly can he might as shane ward says mix his length up australia will be thinking in terms of to a ball and sneaking past the 190 mark stein's going with the theory a bit more conventional with the fine leg up both the straight fielders back and just the four inside the circle all back on the ring that's the clever change of pace and he's made it [Applause] sprint it was from hopes just to buy the mark voucher but what he's look like i think what dale stein will do here he'll bowl yorkers wider off stump with the odd slow ball like we saw there won't be as much variation as we saw albie markle last over bouncer slow ball and yorker at leg stump they're the different forms of things and different variations you can do at the end of an innings out just a little dolly to extra cover so james hopes has to go it's johan bojer who takes the catch but it's that bowling wide and full of off stunt that is an art people often miss it's eight for 180. [Applause] kfc 2020 from the melbourne cricket ground mark voucher is available i think can pick us up [Music] mark mark about you have you got us yes i can hear you what to come back for 140 halfway through the 14th eight for 180 now yeah it's amazing what wickets uh if you pick up wickets when it can do that over right right and the slower ball is working for you but you're not quite dead i did you got to get down the bowling alley this is glove take one of them off bout you might be easy i reckon they might run again take one off you good enough is that warning yes it is mate how is it out there yeah no it's a great atmosphere uh fantastic it's lovely getting booed by all these aussies enjoying it must be a relief to hear him from 200 meters away instead of 22. absolutely yes [Applause] mark you've got very specific tactics haven't you for this stage of the innings yeah definitely uh you know it's always gonna be difficult on a big ground i guess to stop choosing that but uh you know if we can you can drive the boundaries up then uh we're doing a job at this stage of innings and uh you know you also want to get the better to try different things and that's exactly what they're doing at the moment it's working for us because we picked up wickets what would you have settled for at the start of the innings when you walked out and what would you have settled for at two for 140 um at the start of things uh you know when you when you're playing a dick deck like this probably around about 160 170 but with a start that they got probably anything under 200 would be great right so we've really pulled it back nasty okay what did you make a dave warner batch um it's a sweet so it's always difficult to to play against a guy i don't know much about um the innings last ball sean tate on strike double by state the single it is well that's a fantastic performance by south africa and a thrilling one by australia two wonderfully balanced 20 overs of 2020 cricket did you ever got to pick in from here shane yeah i think australia will be a little bit disappointed that they only end up with 182 but it's still a good score hit the mcg you know they've got to get nine and over from the word go a couple of good overs you get three or four really good overs only go for two or three and australia should win yeah i agree with you shane i think australia made 200 in a match at the gabba a couple of years ago and i reckon this is similar to that i think the ground here is bigger you don't quite get as many boundaries although dave water did a pretty good job earlier this evening but i reckon 182 at the mcg is probably worth 200 for gabba so i think although the finish wasn't quite what australia would have liked i'm sure that delighted with that score and there's the card david warner 89 from 43 balls seven boundaries and six sixes his first appearance for australia never having played for the blues or wonderful wonderful innings 21 to ring ponding nine even for david hussey but the australians lost their way a bit but one stage two for 140 finishing with nine for 182 from 20 overs excellent bowling from the south africans at the death led by mckyaron teeny who bowled two overs for 26 and finished with four for 40 picking up two wickets on the way a couple for a couple of useful overs from london todd selby i should say one for sixteen three thirty eight from dale stein brilliant right at the end there and four overs two for 30 from a b morkl therefore 183 to win the game look at the rate these days i mean times have changed at a rate of 9.15 and over [Applause] that should have gone to specsavers book an eye test online with the test experts [Applause] [Music] for over 20 years commbank has been supporting women in cricket so that thousands more girls can comebank proud supporter of women in cricket [Music] well you're obviously with a linter energy yeah of course especially with a great energy deal shall we test them out turn it off mate join over one million australians switch to a linter energy supporting your home team welcome to international cricket dave warner i was quite nervous because i was facing i think third nana's at the time i think mitchell johnson as well and sean tate maybe the that is another rocket look at 155.4 k's i was like man what's it going to be like out there i'm placing 150 k's an hour in the net what's for marsh and warner they are incredible hitters then we've got ponting and hussey and david hussey to hold the side together if needed you know to go out in the middle and play an international game and in front of 19 000 people no fouling is never an option that's never in my mind so i went out there and just backed myself and um played the way that i had been playing that last sort of six to eight weeks when i got the opportunity to to open the batting in new south wales that's why that's an edge and that's four one and over 18 from it uh it was it was awesome um playing alongside ricky ponting um as well he was a obviously an idol of mine and to go out there and play alongside him um and have him come out and down the wicket and just laugh and just basically what was that shot [Applause] that's massive that's 50 off 19 balls four sixes in that what's this international qriket about it's not that tough just rock up to 75 000 people mcgee and start creaming him out the park you know it was it was remarkable and they're little things that um you know stick in my mind uh and that i'll forever cherish um you know forever to to have a guy like ricky of his caliber and class to play not just 2020 pretty game with him but a couple of test matches as well when you're in that sort of mindset and you're in a clear free-flowing mindset um you do kind of feel invincible [Applause] that's oh the fence it might be in at my hip um and i thought all right well i'm just gonna play a little flick because they brought the uh fine leg up [Applause] he certainly was trying to get it down to fine leg and just helped it on its way no that's out of the middle that's a terrific shot now it went all the way and then from there you got momentum on your side so there was no real thinking back then it was more more or less like trying to hit most balls for four or six and now your first 43 balls for australia weren't too bad yeah it's very exciting to get out there you know once you hear that first bearing to create a drawing i just couldn't stop you've turned on a wonderful show for them congratulations hope the night continues well for you thank you [Music] welcome back to the melbourne creek round shane and i are just down by the players race and we've been nailed by the smoke from fireworks jesus nine for 182 nine for 182 the australians 183 for south africa how are they going to go about it it's really important the first six overs i think the target will be similar to what we said the australian 60 they're going to hold wickets in the shed but the atmosphere down here is unbelievable i feel like in my hat to the umpire i think this is fun who are you backing i think australia the score they've got is a very good score although they feel a little bit down that they didn't get as many at the end as they would have liked it's still a very very good score you excited by the presence of herschel gibbs yeah he adds that variety and flair to the south african team and i think he's the one guy at the top of the order that can really get south africans off to a flyer so beware herschel gibbs here and have you ever seen the debut like david warner wow he was something special as we set up on commentary beware the clubbing the club cricketer is out there all starting to ring their mates and say i can play for australia all right well apologies for my language there but we were really smoked out we'll get up to the commentary box now and say hi to adam gilchrist michael slater and ian healy thanks mark and as the boys said if there was 400 on the board and this man was on fire it wouldn't be enough herschel gibbs returned to australia australia fell in a hole in the middle out of the blocks early they're not enough at the end so can they make it enough australia set the scene for this game and now the game is telling south africa what they've got to do david warner 43 balls for 89. herschel gibbs and chuck kallus tried and tested professionals for south africa what are they going to deliver extremely consistent pitch bracken with ball in hand not too much swing so gilly it's set for a top order onslaught from south africa as well you're right it's going to be very interesting that that uh if we keep using the m word momentum that totally changed didn't it the last 10 overs in the australian innings it went the way of the south africans so crucial this early period i wouldn't be surprised here if just if i know herschel the way i did get to know him in the ipl he'll be a little bit cautious here just for the first couple of overs at least just have a look at a few oh yeah sure and as i said i got to know him extremely well over there in the ipl uh the little lap sweep didn't come off he's got himself a wide but uh look i guess i described him as a mozzie he's not a big thinker of the game he's instinctive as well and when it comes off it it's great to watch but uh yeah it's it's certainly even steve i think australia just with their nose in front with 180 on the board it's not too risky that shot to walk inside something from nathan bracken known to swing the ball into the right-handers and flip it down to fine leg this time it's full it's fixed and hit outside leg in my opinion but not the umpires he looked very disappointed there gibbs i think maybe a bit of bat on there he's looking at the the bottom of his back bracken they're celebrating the authors will be thrilled with that but herschel gibbs what a strike for the australians out three balls for a duck south africans are away to the worst possible start really one for one [Applause] maybe this comes to the crease we've got nathan market nathan bracken uh marked up out there and brax can you hear me it's heels what do you make of that you've bought a wide and now got the wicket how's it feeling yeah the first one's a bit nervous actually so it's been a while since a blind kind of crowd like this can you hear much out there at all ah no i can hear you that's about it what's this one going to be no idea a jedi decided about halfway in i think [Applause] and what is it to be abe de villiers full of concentration it's beautiful in swinger into off stump [Applause] hills reckons you're a tad lucky there brax you reckon it pitched outside leg hit [Applause] [Music] work on your second one now [Applause] it's a big loss though isn't it herschel gibbs and he'll look back at the replay and go no he's just arrived in australia frustrating be at home missing out in the test matches and he would have been glued to them my dear state well maybe it wasn't when you're out of the side you tend to try and get away from it don't you if you feel you've been uh harshly dealt with but herschel gibbs will feature throughout the summer he's such an explosive player [Applause] gibbs looked upset about maybe he hit it as well and that's the end of the first over south africa under pressure jack alice yet to face a delivery and the wild thing warms up welcome back it's welcome back to nathan bracken and welcome back to sean tate and i think this is a fantastic opportunity for him i i wouldn't be surprised if this is what he really concentrates on for the next year or two the shorter form of the game oh tip the shoulder first up the aussies are checking whether it was glove oxenford says no 152 kilometers if you don't mind very first ball it's no warm-up time here in this game of 2020. sean tate has just strolled in you're right slats i think he will focus on this short of shorter version of the game and the shorter deliveries at jack hallis after that i think that's a looks like a an interesting call there from yeah well not 100 sure there we've got the replays but what's coming up next here it is down leg let's work the legs down to fine leg kallus cops a 150 fiber well i'm sure what it was it was a glove it was a glove through the white at first slip and it was just the game providing the swings and roundabouts herschel gibbs unlucky jack kallus getting one that should have been given not out but that's a scorcher first delivery 152 that's going to surprise anyone off the glove there she goes and tate having a chuckle i guess if you know you can run in in your first two balls and hit the one five five mark you can keep laughing even if they give them all not out maybe the villains he's out [Applause] straight into the abdomen and he's crippled over under the stumps and this is going to be an awful walk off for a man who has been hurt it must be the right hit yeah right in the point of the iliac crest then he hits the top of off the stump has been hammered by the bat on the way down they say here we go there you just see the bat coming down bang right on top what a shocking feeling they say it's a long walk for a duck here at the mcg anyway let alone when you're hobbling and can't walk two for two the south africans well that talk about three lengths these bowlers it must be the yorker the good length ball and the short ball tate is just sauntering to the crease and producing fire right from the word go well is he is he pumped to be back is he angry at missing some cricket what's he's he's got a b and he's bought it i know what it is you know that calendar they produced they only showed his head just the head they didn't show the body he's proving that he's as strong as those other brutes the south africans are feeling him jp dominic number four de villiers their big hope hit wicket for naught now dominique the left-hander tater's got the ability to swing it into lefties or go across or hit them in the helmet we saw an amazing start with the bat for the aussies and we're seeing it just as good with the ball two for two in the second oh it's a leg by and dominique's quick to get down there kallus is thinking what have i done here opening the batting i thought it was easier than this just a little bit of swing on the end of that one there two hills uh the one down the leg side albeit but uh i see if he starts bowling at that pace and swinging it sean take the wild thing as you mentioned he is going to be a big threat throughout the summer in the short version of the game i think the only time that i can remember where they may have played him was in the west indies in the world cup 2007 and certainly in the semi-final uh they're in all sorts of trouble early in that game too uh kalis what's he got that has beaten him seriously for pace six runs and a wicket two for seven we've seen those sorts of scenes all summer the crowds have been so appreciative of new fast bowling talent around australia peter siddell had them on the edge of their seats here in melbourne danny bollinger in sydney so too to settle again up there and now tate in the 2020. av de villiers the pull shot turned into a very risky and painful scenario hilton house well that's an interesting change isn't being healed for now straight in but look just just with regard to abe de villiers we hope he's okay i mean that has scorched him into the hip and a ball as hard as it is coming at this pace could genuinely break your bone so let's hope that he's okay because he's got a lot to offer for the remainder of the australian summit big swing jp dominique gets one over mid wicket to the ropes hilton house's second ball disappears do you like the look of this guy he's probably happy to be up the other end at the moment too and not facing tate but hilton house just spare a thought for him he's been waiting all summer as well he's taken 24 25 first class wickets an average of 18 he's just been a wicket taker he finally gets a chance in the colours not a bad time to get introduced or reintroduced into australian colours after that opening spell there it's been just electric to see that all that activity is really going to be interesting to see which way the south africans go but we've got i think riggy pointing with us there rick can you hear us mate yeah over second sleep us we'll just wait for ricky to set his field there but [Applause] ricky when you uh set that field mate it's gilly here happy with that start eh yeah yeah two for flipping early on tonight we'll just we'll just watch hilfie come in for this particular delivery it's uh straight through and defended by kallus partner i'm just interested um two wickets in the first two overs but we see a bowling change what's the thinking there mate uh when that doing that two down it's a good opportunity to give hilf a go with a newer ball and then sort of understanding that brack's through the middle of the innings filing his cutters and making the batters into that far end against the breeze while they're pretty handy for us sure hilton house in again [Applause] it was marvelous indeed hilfenhouse very very happy and what a master stroke from the australian captain ricky pointing three for 12 south africa [Applause] well it's all happening it's really pleasing that melvin got another 2020 game this year because india didn't give a lot last year but it's on again australia have set a total this year and they're cleaning up south africa three for 12. one ball short of three overs and kalis has gone he gave himself a little bit of room but the ball just shaped i only moved probably an inch and a half away from kallus but it was a terrific length and a nice little shape that did him ricky potting told us didn't he give him the new ball now it's van yarsfield oh he's playing a missing two into the gloves of ronke another new boy three over has gone three for 12. i mentioned earlier about that's world cup semi-final albeit 50 overs cricket but jack callus in that match played a very similar shot to the one that he was just dismissed there trying to up the tempo but uh ricky pointing he's done so well as hilton house comes back we still oh there you go rick you're still listening to me mate yeah i'm just giving you a big wrap up here man i can hear it mates the first time in about four months of the battle rap yeah he hasn't been up here long enough yet ricky he's uh he's being nice still give me a couple of games mate what about this pace punter from tate that how impressive is that yeah that's those first color balls there was a 152 155 and his first up that's pretty impressive stuff he actually topped it at 156 but here he comes again to domini [Applause] ricky one last question for you mate is it any surprise that he's he's come in and begun with this pace the reports of training were that he got it right in the nets involved with some extreme heat there yesterday uh what sort of mindset was he really excited jumping out of his skin yeah if he read the comments in the paper this morning he said exactly that he feels really fresh and feels rare to go and uh whenever you can come out and buy 152 first ball says you're in pretty good shape [Applause] so tate gets his second over hilton house took over from bracken and kept the momentum going each of the three bowlers with a wicket in south africa what have they got they're down to van yarsfield and voucher albie morkel and then the lower tail i'm very interested there heels to see what this young guy has got he he has shown several times throughout the summer in the test experience beyond his years uh in rebuilding situations let's see if he's got it in the shortest version of the game that's a beautifully cracked cover drive he watched it didn't have time to move much but still crammed it and you can't hear she can't against this sort of pace your feet you still want to get some sort of weight movement going but your feet just can't move like they would if you're facing someone 135k but what he's got is a great eye and the extension of the arms just saw the head slightly move forward which put him into a nice launching pad but this is uh good play and backing up what you're saying is it's tough going for them now seven week it's remaining the required run rate sits just over ten so you've got to keep going for it don't you gilly oh there's a pull shot that's four as well no one back there at all and dorney goes to 13. you're right about the lack of foot movement i don't think anyone should be too critical of a lack of foot movement at this pace i certainly found the times of facing the faster bowlers and even we see here doing he just scooping enough of it over there for to get to the boundary facing tate in the all-stars game a few months ago back in november i hadn't had it for a little while but just with tate you always feel it's a sense of it's either going to be short or full so he bowls his best when he hits a good length [Applause] down the leg side there but giving up a run but i'd like to see sean just as i say from batting personally against him when he gets into that good length area you're so focused on the short ball you're so fearful of it coming up and maybe hitting you in the helmet hitting some glove and you're very wary of that yorker the pace with which it comes in and if it's swinging a little bit you're very wary of that but if he can hit a good length the traditional length not too many people generally have the the perception to pick it up and and and get it to the boundary down the leg again did it flick something it didn't the umpire says wide well it's all on show again there's pace there's injury there's wides there's a little bit of swing every now and then he's unbelievable when you've got a good toad total to bolted yeah and you talk about short pitch stuff in the 2024 you you don't think as a batsman you're going to be going out there copping too much but it just shows a pace bowler can still intimidate he's only got four overs maxed throughout the 20 overs but if he's used in two blocks or two or singular overs whatever it is a fast bowler if he's on target can do some serious damage and the atmosphere out there it's just something to behold it's just an awesome stadium i really look bigger too since you've come back in here and tate fired up round the wicket he gets slashed away for the third four of the over you're so right there it is a little bit of everything from sean tate and i asked the question let's see how jp dooming goes in this situation he has shown an extremely cool head again hooking the fastball around to the leg side but cashing in on a bit of width there getting it over the infield he just looks so composed this young fella it's such an exciting find for the south africans immediate timing on the front foot on the back foot both sides of the wicket so far full and outside off a little bit of footwork and great timing again 14 off the over 3 for 26. [Applause] under 10 and over now van yarsfeld is off ring field set for ben hilfenhouse everything settles down when you get ebola that is 145 k's an hour compared to 155 johan vorta there on the chair nearest to us the captain 156 runs to win in 15.5 overs good luck the thing is it can change so quickly couple of big overs for south africa they're right back on it it's magnificent now he's on the front foot straight down the ground there's another momentum swing gentlemen talking about it that is just a glorious stroke the south african crowd are happy cool and luke he's just so calm under pressure this guy in the purest sense that's the best shot of the night in the out and out hitting warner probably has that i would say dave warner just turned it on at the start of this game in the australian bowling last couple of days just struggling a little bit but the three wickets will be hurting south africa now this is interesting the latest betfair odds are in for those interested australia a dollar and four cents and south africa are 16 [Applause] full toss chopped over the head of ronke and the colonel and four oh that's the best one day shot in the book the owl french pretty safe well andy get a full toss there so hill for now is looking for the yorker he's been hit down the ground when he tried his slow ball so he goes back to the yorker bumps it over the keeper's head for four we used to say that when you were betting because you square cut every first ball you ever faced we'd be sitting there directing say how on earth can you get a half folly square cut to there you can do it good point good point dominique is 25 25 just under five overs they refuse to lie down they haven't done it all summer they've won big moments in the two early test matches in perth and melbourne so why should this be any different i guess warner didn't play the tests could be the difference australia have gone from bracken and tate loving it to now very thoughtful total ring field third man is up and they're able to keep it to a dot nine from it three for 35. [Applause] that should have gone to specsavers book an eye test online with the test experts [Applause] has to come into his first match in australia but this summer and impress keep up with jp dominique nathan bracken replaces shaun tate with his second over one for one in his first the eyes are big just a single to start [Applause] it'll be interesting to see what bracken produces this over ricky spoke about the change of pace certainly now at the closing overs of his bowling spells uh in the death overs as we say we tend to see him bowling a lot of slow balls maybe the wicketkeeper gets up over the stumps but nathan uh i think i think we'll we'll try to have that full variation try to jam a few yorkers third man comes up now we've got the deep long on so perhaps some pace changes here he's so good he's so hard to get away and he's so home disney when it comes to 2020 or rolling the 10 overs in the one-day mode and maybe that's what the perception is out there in the greater world maybe the selectors think he's so honed as a one-day player that multiple spells over the course of a day or two in test matches is probably why he's not getting mentioned too often and that frustrates him greatly but you just see that in this form of the game so hard to get away powerfully played off the back foot good timing from van yarsfeld as well and he'll get three so for him midon came up third man went back bronchi getting a good opportunity tonight heals he'll be loving it adam a little bit fatigued and a good move i think to bring in the youngster well i don't think he's that young at the moment he's 27 i think but but young inexperienced flies did unbelievably well in the west indies with the gloves and with the bat in the one day series over there so it's nice to give another one some experience definitely and he's been crisp he's been really sharp to the bowling of tate and others yeah you're right it's a good opportunity for him and i loved his attitude i saw some quotes i spoke to him this morning actually just uh on the way to the ground i saw him and and he just made the comment that pads is having a rest i'm lucky to be number two at the moment i'll get a go and once he's ready i'll get flicked onto the back home flicked on back home he reckon very casual offside field he's up and dominique can't pierce it magnificent fielding on display now i've really at david hussey they look similar out there from a distance i thought that was my cassie but dave hussey showing uh his brother that he's got what it takes in the field as well that's dynamic stuff third man was up to saving a certain boundary another change of pace there from bracken third man still up and the long on back [Applause] another slow ball that's the long on they push back keeps it to a single which is an awesome result in 2020 qriket 3 for 44 f6 139 off 84 balls that's doable gilly isn't it [Applause] anything is possible hills in this form of the game the trick now is keeping these wickets in hand we've got albie morkel who we've mentioned can strike the ball we've spoken about his bowling variations but in south africa in the the world 2020 he was hitting them into the brewery in cape town measuring over 100 meter hits so he's certainly got the firepower along with mark baucher hopes into the attack can be hard to hit south africans pushing for two they don't get there this australian team has got some great versatility about it folks who can strike the ball as well as bowl and change their pace they'll be hard to beat you're right i've loved the energy from everyone and there's there's a turnover of players no doubt there's some young debutants that just love the energy that the whole team is exuding out there you see hopes it's chipped around in front of square leg there just for one to domini but it can have such a positive flow on if if australia do well in in the one day series the shorter version of the game here as they lead into that already spoken about test series over in south africa it's going to have a positive effect in all forms of the game and i think the guys that are in the test team [Applause] will benefit from any energy that new young guys bring in and warner's had that effect today uh hope's coming back into it hilton house has got a wicket so and dave hussey at backwood point there you know fantastic fielding so plenty of energy it's positive signs for the moment it's just that it is the freshness isn't it like dave warner tonight how he didn't get overcome by the situation is what amazed me so much that he came out limited experience in the one-day form he hasn't played a first-class game we keep mentioning that and it was a confidence the adrenaline the nerves would have been there but he used them in such a positive way very easy as a youngster for that to get over you become overstimulated and before you know you're playing a ridiculous shot so that's standing at this stage australia were one for 60 odd so about a 25 run difference and dave warner was the reason why this that the free swing of the bat is just extraordinary a little bit of innovation he spoke to hills didn't he said to you that he he was premeditating a little bit on that one but still got it around there hopes in last ball that is a free swing as well that hasn't quite gone all the way but it's made its way to the fence jp dooming nine from the over three for 53 south africa dorney on the move now 35 from just 21 to follow up the work of warner we were just speaking about there's a change in the country box and mark nicholas is with shane warren and mark taylor thank you ann healey nice time to come in as well with south africa once again fighting back all sorts of trouble at three for twelve now three four fifty three these two have added 41 and finally just over four overs first time we're going to see a slower bowler coming to the attack for australia to be david hussey to dolly's offspin from the members end of the ground they will be brought ahead of into the attack ahead of cameron white because he bowls off spin you've got to spin it away from the two left-handers a little bit of turn there as well yeah one thing david hussey does do well for victoria when the game's here at the mcg he gets through his overs really quickly too [Applause] he can change his pace generally he'll bowl fast his pace will be around that 90k an hour but he gets through he can really hustle he's a batsman you make make sure you have to take your time and set yourself and make him wait don't let him dictate terms [Applause] yeah he's also one of the world's most experienced one day slow bowlers in that he's played so much 20 over cricket for nottinghamshire in england for victoria here and a few games for australia and he does this job really well he's got a batsman's nose and he applies it to his bowling he almost bowls with a reverse follow through he he bows the ball and he's already on the way back to bowl the next one speared that in just a single [Music] [Applause] fast overs are very underrated we've only got one more of this over left there have been six balls actually bowled because there's been a wide they sneak up on batting teams who think they've got a run rate in control and suddenly it's gone it's nicely played there'll be more than one in this once again he's found a gap in it and he's got the timing to go with it three from the last ball and nine from the over three for sixty two [Applause] three for 62 south africa after eight domini doing well for south africa on the other end van yardsfield also doing a good job generally picking up a single at worst every ball i'm getting dominion on strike which is what you need to do when you've got a player going as well as dooming is and that's really good match awareness and that's something that's really important in 2020 lots of things are important but match awareness and game awareness in any any form of cricket is important but especially this you just haven't got time [Applause] well ben yarsfield does the fielding on that occasion sorry normally does the feeling he's the non-striker who was firstly hopes who knocked on the domini [Applause] very exciting for south african fans to be turning on at home and seeing these two young players at the crease jp domini who's really got a bit of magic about him he's got 40. vaughn vaniersfeld who isn't any relation to martin but who is also a very gifted young player comes from a school which produced a lot of good south african cricketers and this partnership worth 52. [Applause] shot down the ground he's such a nice timer for the ball jp dominique plays he plays sort of orthodox cricket shots but plays them so well times the ball so well the other point about uh vaughan vaniersfeld is that he's making his debut here at the melbourne creek round in front of 70 000 so what an occasion for him and he's out he's caught a midwicket put the spell on him i'm afraid cameron white takes the catch that's a pity because the partnership had a nice rhythm to it you're taking wickets every time you come on the commentary you get a wicket yeah it's a shame that for south africa they're doing a good partnership 53 off 36 balls they're doing a really good job unfortunately they lose another wicket that's four for 65. coaching captain having a chat they need to score at 10.5 runs per over from here on in to win maybe a thought of a change in the batting order mark vouchers come in at number six and i like that because good player mark voucher play in just about any situation within a game generally scores quickly we saw him in the test series at times take his time [Applause] and south africa needed him to take his time and starts off with a bouncer bouncer [Applause] and that is the end of uh vaughn many arsenal's debut an international cricket just needed a bit more of that i think he's trying to hit it a touch square and he gets a bit cramped on it got a bit too much to do from that very straight line [Music] see the pain on his face dominique remains unbeaten with 41. [Applause] wait [Applause] just gone too far very important that voucher hangs on in here with dominic [Applause] have got to be used for big hitting later so what they need is another partnership like the one we've just seen sensibly constructed partnership lots of good running between the wickets and placement there's a lot of twos available at the melbourne cricket ground is a huge outfield particularly side to side and it's a case of just keeping it calm even though the required rate is over 10 and over [Applause] and one feels dormant is the key here and as you say mark the plants from coming alvin walker can clear the fancy he's also a smart cricketer voucher is a good cricketer an experienced so they need to get a partnership here but as you say the run rate's climbing all the time but they have to do it smarty there's lots of twos out here pick their spot with a bowl and say right if he bowls one here in my spot i can clear the fence mike young the australian fielding coach we talked about how the aussies have got a bit of intensity out there in the field they're throwing themselves around we see david hussey stopping the ball some good catching mike young does a lot of work before they go out in the field with his tobacco as well he's back in his single knee pose barking applause he's quite a character straight out of baseball and a very useful addition to the australians hussy's got him again only one ball of this over i'll tell you they didn't have to move the screen every ball for the left and right hand bottom even quicker that's what we're waiting for now very important that the batsman take a little time out trying to slow hassie down rather than let him dictate terms it's another two and it's 473. [Applause] [Music] for over 20 years combank has been supporting women in cricket so that thousands more girls can comebank proud supporter of women in cricket [Music] 10 overs bold halfway through four for 73 south africa 28 runs behind where australia was earlier this evening the run rate required is now up to 11. [Applause] really it is up to dummy i think to as we're talking about just to keep picking up the twos the threes the odd boundary and someone else to do some hitting yeah exactly right but at the moment now they can't panic now with 109 or 59 balls they can't panic now and leave too much to do what they can do though if they keep wickets in hand off the last three overs even if they need 40. they can still do it if these two are set and dorman is still in and with albie markle come in he can clear the ropes he can hit a very big ball so it's important they keep wickets and give themselves a chance in those last three overs and not give it away now that's it there's only one way you can lose the game and that's by being all out so you've got a bad understanding you've got yourself a problem and that something special happens to happen at the end of the innings or needs to happen at the end of these but you've got to give that a chance to happen with the our one day cricket board it was always the last ten nights you used to sort of say to yourself all right what can we get off the last ten at the gabba you used to work on something like 80 other bigger grounds you might work on 60 or 70. what about in 20 20 matches what is it the last five overs you work on or the last three or is there a figure that you work on in terms of over's left if we sort of worked on it at the end was 10 runs and over so like 50 off five is very gettable and the other thing is that that was a little bit different in india in those sort of places as they'll get two here is the grounds are smaller and the roads are in that's 50 for jp dominion very well deserved 50 as well he's played extremely well he's got about 31 deliveries the crowd appreciating his innings seven boundaries in that 50. he's one of the best looking players i've seen come on the scene for a number of years there's been a lot of good players come on this guy is about as technically sound as you'd want from a batsman middle's the ball early it's economy of foot movement runs well between the wickets generally fields well though he dropped the cats today which surprised us all here in the commentary box when he actually did something wrong but he is a real talent the skype very is a scientifically sound and you think of the innings he had to play through the test series as well and now again they're under pressure and behind they've shown a lot of flair and a lot of variety in all the different innings he's come under pressure in the test matches in perth and now there's 20 20 here he's doing extremely well four for 81. [Applause] continuing [Applause] continuing very quickly as well well dorman is going to have to be fit really thick a lot of focus these days on whether the modern creator spends too much time training doing fitness work but in one day creating specifically 2020 cricket [Applause] oh what a little ripper that one's michael the fella bold it's called david the hussy brothers have a great melbourne melbourne i'll tell you what he looked like nick rewind for the saints flying down there for a mark down at the mcg it's a good grab hussey to husty this is like the backyard very good catch look like he just misjudged it a little bit but adapted well excellent catch australia take another wicket five for 82. when the moon hits the sky the hussey's fly high voucher caught the deep by michael hussey south africa have a problem 582 we're into the 12th over and this is all about judgment about timing about great hand-eye coordination that is a wonderful catch he just knows exactly what he's doing [Applause] and a big wicket too mark voucher who's such a competitor now here's the man that shane moore was just talking about albie markle who plays with warner for the rajasthan royals and the ipl and there's a very very handy striker of the ball [Applause] i wish he played for the rajasthan royals unfortunately we had to watch his blades slogging us into the park for the chennai super kings maybe there's a trade that you can help us with that you know about now i watched the final actually simple as that i just got you all muddled the games go so quick it doesn't stop the fact that he is a fabulous striker of the ball super kings or royals so two runs a ball needed from now on and so that's trouble 12 and over that's boundaries no longer singles are any good that'll help though that'll be a wide husty annoyed with himself it's been a good over before that just the four singles in the wicket look at him back already looking to pull [Applause] in the over and the wicked [Applause] [Applause] good start for james hopes 62 148 the official crowd excellent crowd and they've made plenty of noise too particularly earlier this evening when david warner started brilliantly started international career with 89 from 43 balls he's only just started a new south wales career hasn't played a first class game and now he's made an 89 at the mcg [Applause] there is dave horner down there he would be absolutely loving it down there feeling on the fence in front of the old or just around from bay 13 isn't it there he is but he's now coming up to mid off he probably doesn't want to do that but he wants to stay out there on the rope and turn to turn around and say it's me dave warner there's no one in this ground probably we've seen him before tonight i sure would have heard of him by now [Applause] i know that's a wide but it's a good thinking james hopes i think that's something he's added to his games he's always been a little medium pace up and just bowls liner length the odd york occasional slow ball but it's something he's added to his game which i think gives him variety just gives him a little bit unexpected for the batsman facing he still knows that he's got one up his sleeve he could give you a good short one he can't just rock onto the front foot every ball and still around that 130k mark [Applause] so it's not slow speaking about the crowd i'll tell you what they made the noise like about 85 to 100 000. if phil laurie was here that would have been 150 000 here i reckon [Applause] that's nice he played just be a single though what's the tough part about this game there's no time to regroup is there chase 183 for victory and lose a couple of early wickets so hard to get yourself back in the game they've done a good job so far south africa to give themselves a chance and boy isn't doomed to giving them every possible chance it's another beautifully timed shot he does stay beautifully still he really is an uncomplicated batsman there's no movement around the crease there no big trigger hands look at the way they work to hit the ball in exactly the spot that he's aiming mark taylor mentioned just a moment ago one of the best if not the best that we've seen emerge on the international scene for some time this could be trouble no it's safe now i think the lights cameron watch the fieldsman down there i thought he was getting himself in a position to attempt a very tough catch and in the end i think he's caught the lights probably from the grandstand at the members end and in the end he pulled out of it all together that's dead right the ball reaches a certain trajectory there and he loses it dead center of one of the big pylons of lights lucky didn't scott him [Applause] that's a good effort from james hopes there chase that ball and done his own feeling five for 98 [Applause] seven overs left 85 to get for south africa australia need five wickets and uh sean tate is back into their bowling attack hold him very fiery first over i'm lucky not to have callous first ball glove one to first slip give a knot out [Applause] oh my word how do you play that shot at six that is an unbelievable stroke off a ball it's about a tick under 150 k's he's clicked it over the cooper for six while we've talked about domini's skill and execution but i'll tell you what sean tate bowling somewhere around 150k to do it with the composure that he did that without rushing just to actually stand a little bit to his left and just sort of ramp it with fine leg up i'll tell you where this one's going this is going to be halfway down the deck and fast [Applause] like that just before i saw at the start of this over sean tate looked at the captain ricky ponting and fine leg was up and tate said i want to bowl a bouncer and ricky said no no bounces i just wonder if dominique picked it up and knew it was going to be a yorker which gave him half an advantage i think tate saw enough of that stuff i'm going halfway and fast [Applause] it's one of the most amazing shots that i've ever seen [Applause] now down the ground beats bit off may not beat long on uh hilton house will keep it to two been some magnificent cricket tonight beginning with david warner's assault on the south africans incredible innings from him some of the fielding some of the bowling at the end by the south africans the australians in the field have just been fabulous and now dominique turning it on it you can quite see why people flock to this form of the game this is just spectacular [Applause] slower ball and dominique's got in the gap again he's just got that knack jp dorman to find the gaps it's a good slower ball from sean tate it still cost him two and one of the things in 2020 that's important is not to be predictable and the other thing is how you can structure over whether it's a bouncer it's all about a plan i want fine leg back on the ball a couple of wide yorkers and set him up for a bouncer am i going to bowl some bouncers and set him up for yorker it's all about having a plan sean tate looks like he's mixing it up he's being unpredictable we've seen a bouncer we've seen a yorker to the most astonishing shot for six seen a couple of slower balls and i'll tell you what domini's just don't know he really hit him hard we talked about david warner domini's 75 off 45 deliveries really is looking super touch just ask ben hilfenhouse down long on how well he's hitting him that got down to him very quickly at mid on he was in about five meters off the rope he's gone straight back to the rope now that almost cost him a boundary that was down there in less than a second i reckon [Applause] it's good pace throw or trouble that'll be five that'll be five it's hit the bat of mortal which is what could happen when you throw at the stumps and he's deflected it past the back up men and that'll be five off the last ball of the over and 16 from the over five for one one four still very much alive south africa five for one one four six overs left and they need 69 to take you through those six savers of ian healy adam gilchrist and michael slater thanks tubb the big reason they're still in the game is jp dominique he showed his worth during the test series and he's doing it again here tonight nathan bracken will start his third over 1 for 10. gone for so far alby markle on strike yeah next uh evaded the fielder it'll run away for four for a moment there i thought sean tate was gonna get his hands to that one gee that's an important boundary to start the over the top shot they brought third man up so if he gets it through there there's no protection all the protection for morkel is out on the left side there's three men boundary riding and just fine leg up so there's a lots of runs on that side of the pitch but he's decided to get one through the offside that's where bracken wants to bowl to [Applause] that one has gone not far enough for a catching opportunity and dave hussey has tripped over nothing i think he's rolled his ankle [Applause] no rocks out there or anything out of the hills so he's got a wooden leg so he's got the thumbs up but the big limp happening hey spikes didn't grip down he goes there's the uh crow hop throw i think he's okay just loosening up another one in the air is it going to carry gee they're teasing the australian fieldsman at the moment morkel and dominic they're trying to get out and that's the brother in the thick of it the hussies they always are very energetic it's going to be interesting here we heard warney say that the rajasthan royals the winners of the inaugural ipl he thought 50 off the last five overs it's uh not too far off that there they finish this over well [Applause] another one of those cutters from nathan bracken he's changing it up almost every delivery isn't he different pace different style of slow ball and that's what makes him so hard to apply the pace on the board well his slow balls pretty quick and it's got trajectory on it so he really makes the batsman have to change his eye line as well as readjust to the pace and it's difficult [Applause] this is a good hit he's got enough wood on it to go straight down the throat of cameron white this time it doesn't get lost in the lights here at the mcg a very important wicket for the aussies i suppose if there's something in favor for south africa it's the domini the man in form is still out there morkul gone for 12 at 6 for 120. someone's with a linter energy yeah of course aren't you yeah especially with their great energy deals either of you guys see my wicketkeeping get a great energy deal switch to a linter energy supporting your home team a couple of good overs could change it all again in favor of south africa they're running out of batsman though domini he's been busy from the moment he got out there he's uh had to consolidate in this form you get about two balls to do that and then he's been hitting can he be the second centurion in 2020 cricket chris garland the only other one warner out for 89 but dominique has not been contained at all mourinho just rolling on that slow ball from nathan bracken who's completed his third over brilliantly two for 18. cameron white takes the catch [Applause] it's easy to big bear he just yeah i'll take that one thank you i think he was just reasonably pleased to make sure that one didn't get lost in the light slats so he's a little bit of embarrassment down there in front of the crowd he's home crowd but dave hussey coming back on to finish his smelly's bowl three overs for 21 and very efficiently i think the way he raced through the overs he gets through them so quickly that puts a lot of pressure back on and i don't think it'll be any different in this over there's the reverse sweep he doesn't get it away it was a big swing for only one but boyd are the captain coming out trying to do something a little different where's the double-sided bat i've heard a lot about this slats dave warner didn't need it today he's used it before and sit here rather than having to turn around there i guess you get down and a la andrew simons and just just let the ball hit the bat hold it out point it straight at the bowler and let the ball hit the back of the bat simo does it very well [Applause] and a big shout for lbw that goes the finger and that is the big wicket now it was another reverse sweep attempted that's about all i can say about it was a strange option 70 80 made they're well known for the south africans they can hit big balls with the reverse sweep but it's 20 k's faster than he expected and jp gone for 78. and stains the new batsman he's been dead batting in the test matches can he play the big ones here we know he bowls fast can he hit long we haven't seen that but he'll need it tonight two for 22 dave hussey not said uh the same way as one of our fellow commentators would have said it two for 22 with two for 23 now this is 104 k's an hour jammed in front this will be gone too will it no nathan bracken couldn't get there in time but all of a sudden south africans trying to give their wicket away but it's the nature of the beast the nature of the game is you've just got to keep hammering and hope that you can chase down 180 odd this time he swings himself off his feet dale stein doesn't last too long two balls in fact and dave huxty can you believe it he's got three four you're right there the crowd are very happy with this the home crowd for david hussey the adopted home crowd dale stein did it through the test series not this time mccarrantini at the non-strikers in and uh just getting the one down the ground david hussey will get another ovation it's three for 25 from these four overs and another example that spin bowling in this form of the game we hear it from shane warm that it works nicely [Applause] he's a versatile cricketer isn't he contributed a little bit with the bat definitely in the field man comes on picks up three for 25 off four that's one of the attractions of dave hussey attracted a huge price in the ipl auction but uh you know very promising signs for him as he tries to establish an international career well let's go outside to the skipper of the aussies ricky potting he must be delighted dave hussey's contribution yeah he's uh he's done a good job for us i just i just served you on there then he's very versatile about that i mean he probably would have got like you've got more runs tonight but when he put three wiggits on it he's pretty good in the field as well he's a pretty good package of this form of the game dominique was the man that was uh probably the one you had to get out while he was there there was still a chance yeah he played beautifully didn't he struck the ball uh very very nicely as he did through the test matches as well [Applause] let's see a great yorker there from house himself for knocking it up there panna there's a great versatility in this 2020 outfit yeah we've got lots of you know obviously very talented players around australia and the domestic stuff and it's good to see someone getting to go here you know whitey and hope c and warner was obviously magnificent tonight so he'll pronounce his pretty handy himself as well [Applause] and there's a wicked hilton house getting it through the gate and it was off the foot onto the stumps he's surprised can't believe it he just heard the death rattle i'll take it whatever happened i'll take it well the australian bowlers have been bowling too straight to mccarrantini in the sydney test it was blocking them perfectly hilfenhouse gets some swing into the foot and onto the stumps nine down look at the swing on this reverse swing is it i'm not sure but he's kicked it ricocheted right off the the big toe in the middle stump golfing house is happy nice shape there bang leg stump indeed it hit oh dear there's been some interesting dismissals i'm telling you it's only tail enders who can get out in this fashion it was the way glenn mcgrath used to get out he could be another meter outside legs up and somehow ricochet it back onto the pegs the most dangerous delivery to those tail end is a foot down leg side because you know they're not going to be inside of it it's been a smart performance by the australians set off in the opening half an hour by a young man 22 years of age dave warner new south welshman his debut match in australian colours and he's going to be around for some time you have to think he's forming this go does that get him a first class game sot sorbet is legs 11 for south africa these legs eleven all over the place too again hilton house peppering the stumps in the pads of the south africans ponder hovering it short mid wicket aussies impossible to stop these boats batting on ice out there mick they're not dissimilar to your efforts and that dancing on ice was it you actually you're much more graceful than this but guys are slipping over everywhere but i tell you what we have seen here hilton house finishing beautifully some great yorkers and we look at the card there it started badly for south africa for old herschel maybe thought he got a little bit of bat on it gone for the duck and then it never really got going and good use of the bumper there from helping house mixing it up beautifully we've heard everyone talk about the variety that is required in the bowling efforts in 2020 cricket and i think the aussies really have taken that on board we saw it early from bracken we saw it from ponting in although he had two wickets in the first two overs he was versatile and made changes himself so that's been the theme of the night there's a half appeal there from luke ronke and a little bit of a stifle one from hilton house but a great over he's picked up a few wickets there and just one more required for the aussies to close there you see half an appeal there cameron white was suggesting there was a little bit of something on this a bit of a tickle and maybe an under edge there's there is a noise going through to the keeper ronke thinks yeah i heard something i know the atmosphere is big out here but i heard something he did not have a clue he did not have a clue he looked out the cover and someone had cover heard something then he went with him so even the keeper who are known to be greedy little individuals didn't uh go up immediately he must have missed school at that wicket keeping school where you get taught to appeal for everything else yes we'll get back to him we'll get back to him through this week it seems like it's like a new summer for australia i think they've got a great advantage by bringing so much new blood into their 2020 and one day game it seems like a new summer the energy that's brought in but it's not for south africa it's it's just the same tour they've always been on so they've got to find a way to freshen up just like australia have yeah and some personal change obviously mickey arthur coming out and saying that the 2020s and the uh the wonder internationals it's a great way for australia to get some sort of revenge or feel like they have by beating them in the five match monday series in these two 2020s dave warner there's the star of the night dominion has been for south africa 78 absolute standout the next highest 12 to morkul and the osvald and then he's trying to run himself out too he's not sorbet he's on those ice skates the problem is he hasn't got the uh the lycra on that's the problem [Applause] look at this from sean tate this has been a great display from tayden not very encouraging he's gone at 10 and over but that can happen when you're running in and trying to pull that fast a bit of humor there for his teammates not sure if they're game to watch what's coming up but uh sean tate has just walked back into national colors involved with that freedom that i guess everyone wants to see that makes him so exciting he's off again and they'll negotiate a single quite nicely and he's got a run in international cricket there he goes sot sorbet he's got his own style [Applause] mango mango sorbet he won't get six he won't get six better balls than he's had to face in this match again i reckon in first class creed and international creed they have been spot on in swinging yorkers time and time again and his defense is good i expected take to knock him over but hasn't there's still three balls remaining and he's gone the short one doesn't get through what about the pace in which he started this evening sean tate 152 goes the opening delivery and he maxed out about 156 in that initial over that one just under 143 the crowd have turned out as they do in victoria and i'm sure it's going to be the same when we get up to queensland your neck of the woods heels yeah well we've seen the game earlier in the year that the ball flew it flew the wicket looked really flat and consistent but lots of pace and bounce this one's been a beauty too [Applause] actually talking of the gabba in a couple of days time it will be interesting to see if indeed shawn tate plays up there and tries to back up there's obviously one of his concerns in his career thus far has been that backing up and that ability to maintain long spells be in longer version of the game or even you know continual days of qriket in a row so let's hope he pulls up well and is up there at the gather again we see an assist by the batsman from pads to stumps and the australians gain victory by 52 runs in this opening kfc 2020 extravaganza it's the first of two australia south africa up at the gabba in two nights it'll all be on again but australia a convincing victory and everyone has contributed all the bowlers have done a magnificent job this evening and we will never forget the innings from dave warner he could not believe he got his pad so far outside leg stump yet still got bold satsovi has finished for one tate it had everything this innings it had economy from bracken it had fire from tate hilfenhouse was good with the new ball as well as the old and then hopes and hussy did their jobs three for 25 david hussey in a team which has still got extra bowling options up its sleeve you've called it beautifully there boys and look at these guys the aussies just so energetic you say hills it's almost like the beginning of a new summer for them and it's amazing what a little bit of change can do that enthusiasm the younger guys some older experienced guys coming back in and showing that they've still got that hunger and desire to play for australia they i mentioned earlier about some guys maybe not thinking about the australian team maybe wanting to go direct to the ipl well this bunch of players tonight certainly showed the pride that is still around for the not the baggy green it's a it's the skull cap that's yellow but it's got the crest the coat of arms on there and there's certainly a lot of pride there no none more proud than that man there on your screen david warner yeah changing times in the the cricket world dave warner 80 odd it looked like he was going to get the second ever 20 20 100 not to be but it was outstanding [Music] welcome back to the melbourne cricket ground where the australians have beaten the south africans by 52 runs tonight in this kfc clash here a fantastic performance by the australians and we've got time to hear from alba baladi the managing director of kfc who has tonight's man of the match for us over to you albert well kfc are delighted to be associated with this fantastic event on behalf of our employees our franchisees and our customers i would like to announce tonight the man of the match david warner if you can join us david [Applause] yeah it is no i can't believe it's unreal the crowd just came off uh it's quite a journey from playing maurice at waverly yeah definitely is a long way from bondi coming out here last month's it's been a roller coaster i was gonna can't say anything else you said before when you were talking to ian that you weren't too nervous you felt good about going out to bat tonight yeah i lied there i was a little bit nervous but um yeah just went out there and back to myself and did what i've been doing last couple of weeks and fortunately enough it's came off is this how you hit him when you play for the club side and uh you presumably still desperate to get a game for the blues yeah it's how i go about my game especially in great cricket as well and uh hopefully it keep keeps continuing for the blues gotta give this guy a first class match soon and we what a performance tonight ladies and gentlemen kfc player of the match david warner thank you very much cheers now i'm going to ask the salary and captain you hand water to come forward thanks for coming to talk to us it didn't quite work out as planned but that's the special talent you were hit by yeah that was special he played brilliantly in those first 10 hours especially and but our guys fought back nicely in the second ten and i thought jp doomly played really well tonight do you think that when a guy comes in like that you haven't seen before you get surprised by him in a way i think a little bit but we saw him the other night when he played in the state game but um yeah he was too good for us today all right you you go forward now to brisbane i mean would you make changes would you have time to reflect on this or is it just all happening too quick i think we'll make one or two changes we've got quite a young squad out yeah and we'll give the other two guys that didn't play today at john's in brisbane well you gotta sort it out beginning against that guy haven't he yeah definitely otherwise you'd also like the park again thanks your time and tonight's winning captain the australian skipper ricky ponting it's a good night out this isn't it yeah a lot of fun um it was nice fun being out there with davey warner who was going like he was as well but uh a great feeling around the group obviously nice and fresh and some fresh faces and good to see you guys run in by 155 it sort of tends to lift the fielding group a little bit um could you guys even those who have seen him play for the blues could he kind of believe it was it almost like who is this guy well we've all seen it before at state level but it's a different thing to do it on the big stage of international cricket but you know as i said to him leading into the game just go out there and play the way that you know how to play and he certainly did that he hit some uh some huge sixes tonight you know some of the when i was out there anyway some of the sweetest hitting that i've seen and you know the innings was a bit gilchrist like he's the way he played was like gilly being on top of the order again that's as big a compliment as you could play him now ricky if you'd like to call the boys forward because albert's got your trophy for tonight the aussie boys can come in [Applause] tonight's winners ladies and gentlemen with the kfc 2020 match here at the melbourne cricket ground ricky ponting's australians [Applause] you
