- these band a song from his latest album which is the wonderful type I must ask and it's called various positions who are this is called dance to the end of love well that's a position indeed ladies and gentlemen Leonard Cohen and he's back then speak to your beauty with a burning violin dance me through this panic till I'm galaxy flare like on all the French to the end of love to the end let me see your beauty and s is the gone they feel like they do show me slowly what I'll they know the limits are to the end day see to it then speak to winning Oh dance beyond dancy very tenderly and all of us beneath our love will bow the bus above to the end of love in Spain to the end of dance me to the children who are asking to be born then Smith released curtains that on kisses have a war razor take a shelter now though every it's strong hence me today you then speak to your beauty with a burn day through this panic till I'm gay save their touch smear with your naked hand touch me with your club see to the end in Spain to the end of and really go into Rock I love that oh yeah we're very great they didn't thank you a little long the Greek side a little on the Greek side is added like a lot of your songs sort of had that sad feeling about it he places in again you shot a film clip in the mental hospital yeah I know it was just an ordinary hospital where people get sick and die is that a fact with Audrey said we'll see there you are um this is the right thing I went to your console vast I'm here about five years ago and it was a really good fun night and I must admit I thought this is gonna be a little bit more sand bit sad because you do attract a lot of that emotional feeling don't you that's what they say but I do not not entirely you know my friends think I'm a barrel of laughs well I thought your show was too I thought it had a lot of solemn a lot of spirit and because that's what it's all about but what do you see songwriting is sort of a way of using poetry in the century and getting people to listen to it or do you think if you wrote poetry people have read that as well I I don't even care about poetry to tell you the truth well how do you sings I never thought of it that way you know I just thought of it as just as a song this my mind gets too hot twisted around the ideas that way you know it could be Shaboom Shaboom Shaboom but you know instead it's all this spiritual pursuit yeah and that's what it's bad yes it's a deep spiritual quest for the truth well all right where does an idea like dance me to the end of love come from well lovely phrase but I mean how do you come to that phrase it's an interesting thought I think I depress everybody if I told him exactly how it came about do you like to hear yeah I think we're feeling up enough to drive yes let's have a slug of it well it was supposed to be a song about Berlin and I'd recorded that I had a lot of verses about Berlin I was trying to get a song about the origins of evil but it wouldn't fit in so I realized that it was a love song or a wedding song but the really depressing part about this true tale is that I learned that the concentration camps there was a custom of taking musicians among the inmates and having them play little string quartets right while they did they're killing work and so the song is could be like a prayer or a love song it's dance me to your beauty with a burning violin awesome with that idea now you can see the song takes on another yeah another angle it is not the interesting thing you write it from that point of view and I listen to it there and thought of something entirely different well is it is entirely different but it's just the well I mean that's the thing about music isn't it everyone's got their own interpretation sort of things things come out you know I think that if a song comes from a deep place it'll yeah it'll have a wide embrace I Suzanne I've got to ask you about because we're this is a pretty good talking point this one because there was a Suzanne in your life and she's a mother of two children it's his mother of my children another of your children right that you wrote a song called Suzanne and someone told her today that that was not about her and someone else said it was about her no I I had written the song before I met this particular lady I guess I summoned her so was another Suzanne there's another Suzanne you know Rick's all the theories does not um this is this is a good one too he impressed us again no no looking back over the whole catastrophe it it is a bit of a burden but I think I can get I can handle it are you asking me can I handle it no there's no story there I I wrote that song Suzanne before I met the mother my children say is you say you wished her upon yourself you brought someone to Ford the the the one thing about your life to that I just want to touch on tonight because it is a hell of a problem these days any chance we get to have someone talk about it I can only do some good you had a real bad time being hooked on drugs didn't you you call kept Amanda X by your baby I mean you went right through didn't hear you yeah I have looked marijuana in the face and lived to tell the tale but more than that I don't have the credentials of a real junkie right but I have seen a lot of people go down on that and I don't really like to see it around well it's it's like that cocaine thing I mean that that's starting to get trendy in Australia I mean in LA I mean I pass it around all the time and I said to her Europe City Med that is quite addictive I don't know if it's addictive but why do people what does it seem to attract people in the entertainment business it's expensive you think that's it so it's got a bit of snob value I think it is fashion I think it's pure fashion I think I've observed people on cocaine for a number of years I think it it's one of the most sinister drugs I think all drugs are sinister hmm but I think the cocaine is an especially sinister drug um but it goes very well with this world with this butcher shop it showed us is not yeah but it does it does inflate the ego in some kind of mad way mm-hm and it does people feel it equips them for the struggle but it really just makes them into very aggressive manic people yeah just on a lie tonight you've you've been quite a design you like wine women and song that's true let's get on to the wine bit okay discovered any good months since you've been here there's a very good wine that we have in our dressing room a good Australian red wine I didn't have my specs so I couldn't read the label everything awesome Australia Reds are good do you have a sip before you go on a thimbleful a thimbleful let's it is it that's it I never I never drink I usually
