Leon Edwards vs Khamzat Chimaev Full Fight - UFC 300

[Applause] well there's always a special feeling when hamzat shimaya makes the walk whether at welterweight or at middleweight this man has proven to be a real problem and really has lived up to all the hype and then some dating to his 2020 UFC debut it's so hard for you to meet expectation much less exceeded hamzat jayv has exceeded the expectations set for him when he made his UFC debut he has been nothing short of a buzs saw just going through guys at a rate that not anyone could have expected what a fantastic fighter we get to watch every time we see h on in the op and of course many people hearken back to the Gilbert Burns fight in 2022 the consensus fight of that year in which chimaya was challenged and still Rose to the occasion we'll see how he fares time [Applause] yes he is the reigning defending Undisputed UFC welterweight champion Leon Rocky Edwards obviously there weren't many people picking him to beat Kamal Usman at UFC 27 but that fight was scheduled for 25 minutes he needed all of them he produced one of the greatest highlights in UFC history he did he needed 24 minutes and 30 seconds in order to become the champion but he never gave up on himself it seemed as though everything was trending in the wrong direction and he got the job done Leon Edwards is a phenomenal fighter he's very well-rounded and he's real big for the weight yes and you see his physicality come into play in that first round against Kamar Usman taking him down and controlling him on the ground right but tonight he has a different challenge he doesn't have the guy that brings all the accolades he has a young hungry lion that's looking to knock him off his throne and we will see how Leon handles this challenge but of course increased eyeballs on Theon Edwards given what he was able to accomplish in becoming the man at 170 [Applause] lbs our tail of the tape for this highly anticipated welterweight fight all right to get us started with the official introductions here is Bruce [Applause] buff ladies and gentlemen this is the main event of the [Applause] evening time five rounds in the UFC welterweight division introducing first fighting out of the blue Corner H that for Chaya and now we producing his opponent fighting out of the right corner Leon Rocky Edwards her Dean our third man in the Octagon for this one all right this crowd is going sick and you know why because this is the four time they have made the fight between hamzat Chimay and Leon Edwards and it's the first time that it's actually going to happen right here right now you know hamat Jaya is essentially the boogeyman nobody wants to see him but like you said John Leon Edwards took the fight four times Leon Edwards ain't afraid of nobody Leon Edwards is ready for the challenge that is in front of him tonight boy it's a challenge though because hamach chamaya is a beast this will be a fun one let's go oh and he lands another leg kick there he's already landed several in this round and really starting to do some appreciable damage to his opponent's lead leg kamach Chimay gets touched by that kick [Applause] there nice job to get inside and get the single colar tie oh good combination on the feet DC there from Leon Rocky Edwards underappreciated no more and if he doesn't have the respect he so craves from the fan base he certainly has from his fellow R gets the single leg Tak down all right so there's the early taked down for the decorated Grappler exactly what he wanted to do tonight exactly what he needed to do if he's going to want to win this fight you got to put this down on his back early and you got to put him on his back off all right so that calf is starting to bruise up we'll keep an eye on it he's got to check down because if he doesn't his leg is going to be so he's not going to be able to move he's going to be in real trouble all right opens the guard now stacked guard just over two minutes to go Edwards gets back up again nicely done straight punch that is [Applause] useful oh well timed with that team trying to land the elbow there to no avail head kick attempted but both Fighters throwing heat now beautiful leg kick lands changes levels now DC oh man he was in a single got to a high R big slam take down that was H crazy accuracy and efficiency with these ground and pound strikes here and if you're the opponent you got to intelligently defend or the referee's going to stop you got to defend but you can see him now starting to gain posture and the intensity at which he's throwing these ground strikes is starting to improve it's starting to elevate because he knows that he can get the Finish final seconds of the round now he's got good body position yep osters up and lands a brutal strike to the Head 5 minutes in the right now we take a look back at some of the action in that you ready to fight ready round two underway all right next round is now underway DC any major takeaways after the previous five minutes that both of these guys are very evenly matched the matchmakers did a fantastic job when they put these two in the oon even though it wasn't crazy you got to see high level mixed Marshall nice job by Leon Edwards going to the kicking game now certainly earned the respect with his hands now changes the level yeah he can do it all he's a fantastic stri a guy that can mix it up a guy that know what a great play mixing up his attack he didn't stay the cour he mixed it up he went High when his opponent thought he was going low and now he's got him hurt very badly and he's back to his feet good side for him there well his opponent seemed to be stunned to a significant extent but was able to recover and almost like he let him off the hook kind of let him off the hook he needed to really put his foot on the gas to try to find that fin three minutes to go so a much different approach for him here in this second round he was a little bit tentative in round one little bit of a Feeling out process now he has clearly found his rhythm found the range we'll see if he can continue with more activity here in round two Hook is there again we got a fight folks strong outside leg kick all right so unless my eyes are deceiving me that is some bruising now on that calf it only took one John I mean one C kick and it's already starting to move another powerful kick there lot of volume with the feet tonight for him it's unbelievable to watch somebody make kicking the base of their fighting style he has shown us that is possible Edwards gets hit with a kick here let's see how he responds oh Picture Perfect shot there DC one more of those I mean the fight is going to be over I can't believe he's still standing that shot landed perfect now all and a quick entry oh big take down what a technique what a Tak down great high impact skill you couldn't feel the canvas reverberating here at the I mean right there it's like me running anywhere John oh he cleared it and he got out he cleared the leg got to his back and now he's out of that D CH looks to me like he's got that submission close starting to get deep looks like he's going to get the Finish oh he got out he cleared his leg got back to his back and created some space between him and his opponent to stay out of that guard show O the AL going over the arm bar now and there's the back up to one and go holy smokes now everybody in this Arena still digesting this result what a W for him tonight and he gets it done by submission no less he said he was going to get it done by submission to watch and after we call the shot is always fun he should be very proud all right let's take a look back at the replay as he gets it done by submission tonight champ I mean you know this guy has such a great submission game that you cannot lay in his guard he's so skilled he's so tricky and he's so good at weaving a web that gets you lost in it that he made him pay for it tonight and got the submission Victory the official armar H BS CH all right so hamach chimaya that his suffocating best tonight as he gets it done by submission this dude's good man he's really good and he's really good everywhere
