hey everyone its mark Wiens with migration ology calm in singapore today for breakfast kind of a late breakfast it's about 9:45 a.m. I am about to dig in to a bowl of laksa and this is one of the most well-known LOX restaurants or laksa hawker stalls in all of Singapore it's called sungai Road laksa it's 9:45 a.m. in the morning on a Friday I think it's a Friday and there's just about no line there are only a couple people right in front of me so it just took a minute to order my bowl of laksa I got it it's not too packed so I guess this might be a well this is probably a good time to get your bowl of LOX out from here when it's not too busy laksa is one of the ultimate dishes to eat in Malaysia and Singapore and it's really a dish that blends Chinese and Malay cooking and flavors all together in one the noodles are kind of Chinese in style and then the curry is kind of Malaya in style and I believe that this is this is the Chinese version of laksa they have many many different versions of laksa hi I believe this is kind of a Chinese version and this is a true heritage Hawker stall in Singapore they have been around for a very long time and one of the bonuses of sungai road lock size that they still cook their curry over charcoal in a big aluminum pot and when they make the noodles date so the noodles are already prepared in the bowls and then they take some of the curry they add it to the noodles and pour the soup back into the pot and do this a couple of times to prepare the whole dish and then after that they then they finally add more curry to the noodles and I think that might just kind of waken up the noodles and maybe enrich them with some of the flavor of the curry after that the block size then topped with some slices of fish cake and I think those are cockles and then there's a little bit of chili paste on the side and then finally it's topped with a handful of some kind of leaf which I'm not sure what it is but I will try to identify with my first bite the noodles are on the bottom and the the soup is very buttery looking with just a little bit of red oil on the top there's fish cake oh there's lots of bean sprouts in here the cockles and there's a little bit of extra sambal chili paste on the side but I think I'll try I'm going to go ahead and just try that try that broth first before before mixing in that curry paste all that is delicious it almost to me it's almost more like a like a cream of chili soup rather than a curry well you just get a little bit of that chili flavor in there and I think that veg that that finely sliced herb on there I'm not sure exactly what it is but to me it tastes like Vietnamese coriander or what is also called hot mint it kind of has like a sweet cross between cilantro and basil the broth is yeah definitely a very buttery you can taste that coconut cream in there which is absolutely fantastic and yeah it's almost like a like a cream of mushroom soup except it has a little bit of a chili flavor and that that herb I'm gonna add that oh that's just a little dab of that extra chili paste let me try one of those cockles and then some of the noodles next you can really taste the flavor of that cockle that's seafoody flavor I think the cockles are actually rock so they are a little bit slimy in texture but that allows them to have so much flavor or maybe they're just very very lightly cooked but can taste that seafood enos in depth the noodles are very soft kind of like spaghetti noodle ish but yeah very very soft and then they almost the noodles are almost so soft that they just sort of blend and do that coconut creamy gravy I got a piece of fish cake on this bite as well this is almost like clam chowder except instead of clams the cockles and then with just that little bit of chili paste which is not really spicy but it is fragrant yeah this is like a Singapore version of clam chowder that made a wonderful bowl of breakfast laksa I think it's really good for breakfast because it's not it's not very spicy and it's just more kind of comforting and soothing and creamy yeah it's really it's really kind of like cockle chowder but then with a little bit of a prawn chili flavor and this is a heritage Hawker stall in Singapore that you should definitely check out for a soothing bowl of laksa thank you all very much for watching please remember to give this video a thumbs up thank you to all of you who recommended this laksa to me I'm very satisfied and I will see you all on the next video
