A perfect example of why Zeppelin never tried to replace John Bonham. Hammer of the Gods.
The drums on this song are ricockulous.
The studio version of this has absolutely no competition as my favorite Zeppelin track. Over 10 minutes, and they go by like 3. Belongs on the highlight reel for every member of the band. Some of their strongest lyrics. Maybe my favorite Page solo. I've easily listened to it over 100 times, and I can easily see 100 more.
O, Albion remains--sleeping now to rise again!
Led Zeppelin never interested me much, with the exception of this song and No Quarter. Bonham's performance on Achilles Last Standard is probably one of rock's top 5 best from that era (mid 1970s) and this version highlight's it the best.
08:07. And, honestly, the minute or two which leads up to it. It's just one of those electrifying and brilliant flashes of exuberant joy in a performance filled with them that gets me every time. It's impossible to see that moment caught forever like that and not think about how it would forever feel very different when the future changed for them the next year. It makes my heart sing and ache at the same time.
They hadn't played together for two years before these shows at Knebworth and hadn't played in England for nearly four years. They wanted to come back on stage with a solid performance and they did not disappoint. They were titans during this time. These two shows showcased the power of Led Zeppelin perfectly.
Apparently both the lighting technician and the camera operators hated JPJ.
God that baseline I think this is what really got me into music when I was in tenth grade and it was off the latter days greatest hits album
The most Led Zeppelin of Led Zeppelin's songs. Presence is my favourite Zep album.
