of the lord is our strength may his joy live in us may his joy dwell in us and as we prepare our hearts to worship the lord may his joy make a difference in our lives amen we are going to pray and begin the service let's look to god in prayer heavenly father we come to your presence oh god this wonderful day we thank you lord for another blessed sunday that you have given us the first sunday of this month oh god thank you that you have lord given us this great opportunity to come to you as we have gathered here today lord we are reminded about your greatness your goodness father lord there is none beside you there is no one like thee lord we worship you today lord as this month is a month of prayer and as we learn about prayer we pray o god that you would give us the grace and the strength to understand you more help us to know the desires of your heart father dear lord as we open our hearts to worship you may our worship reach into your presence as a living sacrifice may our worship bring glory and honor to your name lord as we hear your word may your word come alive into our hearts thank you that it is your word that brings liberty and freedom into our spirit we give you this dear people we pray o god that your divine blessings be upon them that your salvation that your peace be upon them may their lives never be the same again dear lord we pray for those who are celebrating their birth days their marriage anniversaries this week thank you for adding another year into their life we pray oh god that their lives ahead will be fruitful by you lord we also pray for those who are traveling this week may your divine presence go with them dear lord as we prepare our hearts to partake of your precious body and blood we pray that your life and healing will flow through us in jesus most holy name we pray amen amen give a warm welcome to our pastor amen what a lovely time of worshiping the lord as we're going to turn to the holy communion to touch the body and the blood of our lord and savior with utmost respect and devotion we have to remind ourselves and tell ourselves this truth that we really don't belong to ourselves we belong to the one who purchased us the one who gave his very life for us as a ransom to pick us up from the darkness and move us into the light communion time is really a time of surrender where we say lord i was unworthy but you made me worthy i was an alien to your kingdom but you made me a citizen in your kingdom and the price you paid on the cross with your own life our eyes are closed our heads above as we pray together holding the elements of communion in our hands heavenly father as we prepare to eat of your body and drink of the blood oh god of your son our lord jesus the body and blood of our master jesus thank you thank you that we belong to you bless these elements for us sanctified for us in jesus name we pray amen let's eat of his body and drink of his blood together hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah heavenly father thank you for sending your son jesus to the cross so that through that one act all of us can call you abba father and you call us your sons and daughters thank you since we don't belong to ourselves and we belong to you may your holy spirit guide and lead and have total control of our lives in jesus name we pray amen amen hallelujah shall we do the confessions together i believe in the almighty god our father and creator i believe in the lord jesus christ god and my savior he was conceived of the holy spirit and born of a virgin he suffered died and rose again he ascended into heaven he shall soon come again i believe in god the holy spirit who is worshiped and my guide i believe in holy fellowship faithful giving and service to god in this church i believe the holy bible is the perfect word of god i am what it says i am i have what it says i have and i can do what it says i can do today as i learn the word of god here in my spiritual family i'm blessed healed and anointed for a holy and victorious living i will never again be the same in jesus name amen amen the lord bless us as we are going to study from god's word this month we are calling it the month of prayer right we found in the book of jeremiah that those who seek the lord with all their heart will not just find answers to their prayer but greater than that they will find god and his presence abiding with them in their lives and when you talk about prayer there are different aspects to prayer in fact the bible talks about praying in the spirit there is a lot of emphasis given about praying in the holy spirit so how does one pray in the holy spirit some people say it is when you speak in tongues and pray praying in tongues well that is true when you pray in tongues when you speak in tongues yes you are praying in the holy spirit in fact the bible talks about the importance of speaking in unknown tongues in your prayer so that's something you can ask the lord for but to say that praying in the spirit is limited to praying in unknown tongues is incorrect sometimes when you are led by the holy spirit and you are praying in the spirit you might be using the vernacular of your mother tongue or speaking in a language that you know but you are still praying in the spirit and i want us to look at that but one aspect of praying in the spirit that you cannot overlook or you cannot ignore is allowing our emotions allowing our feelings to become something that you offer to the lord something that you place at the feet of our lord and say god it's not just my intellect i'm giving you i'm giving you my emotions i mean think about it we give our money to god right we give our time to god right let's say on a sunday now you make sure that you are participating not just watching the church service but participating right in the church and you're worshiping the lord you're giving your time on a sunday to god in the church and well now church is in your house so whatever right you're giving the time to the lord and then rest of the week you are going to use your time in a way that does not contradict the way you have given your time to god this morning or or this time as you are participating secondly we give our money to god right when god blesses us with our monthly income or with our irregular bonuses or business deals we take 10 percent of that and set it aside and give it to god as our tights or in addition we give offerings to the lord right and then with the rest of the money we make sure we have a lifestyle that honors god and doesn't contradict our giving to god right similarly when it comes to our intelligence we have a habit of giving to god every child of god genuine child of god will make sure that the information in their brain there is some space you know in an honorable way given to the word of god that their mind is not just filled with the news or entertainment or their subjects of study or their projects at hand but that there is some part of their brain which is used to store and memorize the word of god and the understanding of god's word why because that's a way of offering our intellect to god so that our paradigms our way of thinking can sort of be led by the holy spirit now here comes our feelings what about submitting our feelings to god when it comes to helping the poor we kind of give our clothes give food we give money to god's work we give our time in the church and serving god but what about our feelings have we given our emotions to god how do we submit our emotions at the feet of our master a very important question that i want to help answer from the word of god let's look at one scripture in romans chapter 8 and verse 26 so too the holy spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness for we do not know what prayer to offer now nor how to offer it worthily as we ought but the holy spirit himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance let me give you an example see one of one of the one of the tragic things that i as a pastor the unfortunate things i as a pastor have to do is funerals burials ah especially when people die young it's it's hard the kovitz season probably has been the most traumatic season the most traumatic season in my life it has been the most painful season the uh especially because bethlehem church is today uh a very large church so uh so the number of people you kind of know is exponentially large and proportionally the number of celebrations and tragedies increase in your know-how and so to keep hearing about both good and bad i have to tell you it was a challenge was really a challenge and i have seen that in many funerals in many burials the loved ones come and they really have nothing to speak they just cry they just weep and we stand by them we try to hold their hands or just just be with them and encourage them and ask them what are you feeling of course we understand you feel lost and we understand you feel pain but is there anything you want to say many of them say things like i don't know what to say and they are weeping and they are crying why sometimes emotions communicate through expressions which are non-verbal sometimes emotions get communicated with gestures with expressions with attitudes which are not spoken which are not verbal now here the bible is saying let's read that it's saying the holy spirit comes to help us he comes to help us right he comes to help us look at that holy spirit is not here to inspect us holy spirit is not here to cheat or to weaken us holy spirit is not here to combat us holy spirit is here to help us hallelujah many people are sometimes afraid they think oh if holy spirit comes will i lose control uh if holy spirit comes will will i change my mind in a negative way if the holy spirit comes he will help you he's the spirit of help he comes to help you the bible says he comes to your aid and bears you up in your weakness and what's the weakness given there you don't know what's the best thing to pray yeah a lot of times you know i've heard people say things like pastor pray for my career i want to take up that job i want to study for this course you don't realize that in five years that course may go out of fashion in a few years that job prospects might have no growth opportunity a lot of times our prayer targets are changing our prayer targets are moving targets or changing targets you know when you when you study or when you look at snipers you know when they go for a fighting and they take sniper positions to hit the enemy they find it easy to shoot a stable stationary person or object but to shoot down a moving target is very difficult sometimes our targets in prayer are changing targets they are moving targets they are being morphed over a period of time and so we really don't know how best to pray you know somebody asked me pastor i'm praying for my marriage and i have somebody in my mind i said okay because i feel they are the best for me and i remember advising them well there's no harm in praying for someone you love there's no harm in praying god i love so and so and i'd like to marry that person no harm but the problem is maybe you should allow god to have a say in whether that's the best for you you know why because sometimes they are moving targets in other words you know them as the best for you now but 10 years down the line you don't know what are the changes they're going to have and you don't want to be incompatible 10 years 20 years down the line so you'd rather allow the holy spirit to help you pray more accurately can't we have targets yes you can have targets in prayer but it's good to ask the lord and let the holy spirit guide you and here the bible says the holy spirit will not only help you to pray worthily but even offer the prayer worthily which means instead of praying in unforgiveness and bitterness instead of praying in a sense of comparison with others instead of asking god for things but doubt and unbelief instead of praying to god with feelings that are inappropriate the holy spirit helps transform our feelings so that we are able to offer our prayer in a more worthy manner that's exactly what is written there and the bible says your holy spirit pleads in our behalf through us with unspeakable yearnings look at that word unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance you know a lot of times people think that prayer is all about closing your eyes meditating on jesus and speaking to him and then it's over you say an amen open your eyes and keep going about with life well that's all right with the family prayer time that's okay when uh you're talking about moments like that but when you talk about times when you want the holy spirit to lead your prayer please understand when you stop speaking prayer need not end you can submit your joys you can submit your happiness you can submit your feelings your feelings of strength or weakness your feelings of joy or sadness your feelings of courage or fear your feelings of hope or anxiety your feelings of faith or doubt your feelings of love or hatred submit it to the holy spirit and say god you work on this and and stay in his presence and sometimes you're smiling in prayer sometimes you're weeping in prayer sometimes you're waiting in prayer i love the holy spirit now this is what is required for a child of god many people get bored with christianity and they get bored with church because they they haven't really gone below the shallow waters of religion you must move into the deep by the holy spirit and then you know how exciting christian life is it's a happening life it is a real powerful life it is a life of victory in christ jesus amen though the scripture is written in the new testament right romans chapter 8 is a part of the new testament but you'll find someone using the scripture and working by the holy spirit in the old testament you know why because old testament or new testament holy spirit is the same god is the same in the old testament you have someone who was led by the spirit in prayer let's look at that classic story in 1st samuel chapter 1 and verse number 12 and 13. as she continued praying before the lord eli noticed her mouth hannah was speaking in her heart only her lips moved but her voice was not heard so eli thought she was drunk what a pathetic thinking but anyway what was hana doing hannah was the wife of el khanna she was a wonderful woman and her husband loved us so much but hannah as wonderful as beautiful as a lovely wife she couldn't conceive she couldn't have children she was barren you know sometimes wonderful people go through barrenness sometimes wonderful good people go through infertility and i'm not just talking about i'm not just talking about biological infertility sometimes people go through infertility of business where for every reason your business should be doing well or maybe you have all the qualifications and you should be getting a job or maybe you you've done all the work and you should be getting selected but somehow you're not fertile somehow you're not productive somehow you're not fruitful now this badness can happen across life it can happen for a million reasons and sometimes for mysteries that we don't just understand the bible says hana was not able to get pregnant and she was so disappointed and she went into the house of god and began to pray of course she went into the house of god with the following thoughts number one i'm gonna talk to god and god has to bless me with a child i'm gonna ask god to turn my barrenness into fertility i'm going to ask my god to change my inability into ability she took her shame and her inability and surrendered it at the feet of jesus and she said god i'm keeping my shame at your feet the shame that i can't be productive and i have no reason to give i'm placing it at your feet the inability that i'm not able to have a child i'm placing it at your feet you know sometimes you got to learn to give to god more than just your money and your time give to god yourself and your difficult areas of life she placed them in prayer before god and she said god here it is i am keeping them before you and she started praying saying god i want to feel self-worth by having a child i want to feel self-confidence by being able to be like other women who are married having children i want oh god i want i want to feel self-worth i want to have a child i want to have the joy of being a mother it was all about i i i i want i need i but look in the prayer when you read that portion as she was praying the holy spirit came and helped and the bible says eli the high priest noticed that her heart her emotions were moving her lips were moving but there was no voice coming out why because she was led by the spirit with feelings too deep with emotions that are led by the holy spirit that could not have utterances groanings that didn't have words the holy spirit was leading her she kept weeping and praying a lie misunderstood because eli is the high priest and you know the guy only understands religion he didn't understand spirituality spirituality is way deeper than religion religion is what brings you to the church spirituality is what connects you to christ right so spirituality can also bring you to church it's not just religion but the bible is saying here she began to pray and as she began to pray led by the spirit of god and her emotions were churning and you know instead of shame she became very very honorable the feeling of shame went out of a mind the feeling of inability went out of see this is what happens when the holy spirit takes over our emotions instead of feeling shame and it's all about me it became a lot of honor and respect and she began to pray saying god you know what when you give me a child i'm going to give him back to you look at the sense of confidence she developed she somehow began to feel so honorable that she could give god something you know she started the prayer saying you have to give me something oh god but she concluded the prayer by saying god i want to give you something the child i'm going to have i'm going to give him to you for your service for your kingdom look at that from a from a point of absolute lack of self-esteem and lack of self-confidence she moves into such honor and such strength because the holy spirit helped her weaknesses the holy spirit helped her emotions and she became strong in faith i believe in my heart brothers and sisters this month of october we're going to learn to allow the holy spirit now of course this kind of prayer is not something you do every day but this is a kind of prayer you don't want to ignore this is a portion of prayer that you do not want to keep it for rare moments you want to make it more familiar you want to make it more common in your life why because these are kinds of prayer that things happen things happen when you pray like this hallelujah you know that's where really god moves in a powerful manner i have written this down for myself when there is a praying mother a mother who talks to god there will be a god who talks to her son what happened this mother who kept praying to god and talking to god and finally her son's name was samuel right she was blessed with a son and he became samuel and god kept talking to him if you can talk to god god will talk to your future hallelujah i said something really powerful there if you can talk to god with passion and faith allowing the holy spirit to lead your emotion then god will talk to your future and create a future that you couldn't even dream of amen hallelujah so you have this again and again in the bible you know people being led by the holy spirit when they prayed i i've written down a story in acts chapter 16 there's something fantastic there about apostle paul and silas i'll give you a quick uh uh context and then we will read that scripture the context is apostle paul and silas were preaching the gospel and they met with timothy you know the epistle of timothy the book of timothy well apostle paul writes to timothy all of that starts with acts chapter 16. so he meets with lydia and he meets with timothy and all of those things and it's so exciting and he's going around preaching the gospel apostle paul and his friend silas are moving from place to place and there was a demon-possessed lady not not every lady is demon possessed uh but some are in that town in that town so in that town some are possessed so the bible says and this lady persisted by demons when she saw apostle paul and silas going around preaching she began to scream out saying these are the servants of the most high god that evil spirit began to shout and scream out through her saying these are the servants of god apostle paul and silas were not like today's evangelists uh who wanted to take a selfie with a devil that was you know honoring them but apostle paul and silas said no we don't like this and they turned around and said you evil spirit get out of her life in jesus name and the evil spirit left her now she was a slave girl this slave girl was possessed by demons and she was working for her masters who used to make money out of her by her being a prophetess so rich businessmen wealthy families would come to this slave girl and ask her to prophesy and show the future this slave girl possessed by demons would you know prophesy the future the rich guys would make the offerings to her and the money would go to her masters so some of these roman guys they owned her she was a slave girl but when the demon spirit left her the masters of that slave got very angry they said our business is gone no she's not able to prophesy and they went and they lodged a false complaint and created a whole fascist movement against paul and silas so the roman magistrates caught paul and silas and had them beaten very badly by law okay legally by law they had them beaten very badly and the crowd also beat paul and silas but you know paul and silas did something good for that girl but because economy was affected because commercials were affected you know they got into a bad books of the rich and powerful people they were beaten badly and they were put in the prison apostle paul and silas were put in the prison now you can imagine they are in pain they are in shame you know they are in bondage they are they have been treated with injustice it's been very unjust to them so at that time they were put at the prison and they are bleeding all over okay and then there is going to be sentencing after hearing in the courts so now they are up for a long judicial trial while they are sitting in the prison by midnight they are not able to sleep because it's paining all over it's hurting all over you know and they they just can't sleep because they haven't received any first aid or any kind of help cruel cruel they've been treated very cruel towards midnight let's read what happened acts chapter 16 verse 25 and at midnight paul and silas prayed and sang praises unto god and their fellow prisoners heard them okay so what happened is this apostle paul and silas with all their body pain with all their bleeding wounded body suffering injustice just submitted everything to god and they began to pray when they began to pray in the midnight the holy spirit took over their emotions the holy spirit began to help with their feelings and the bible says they began to sing hymns to god they began to sing praises to god you know singing is something common i've seen people you know when they're waiting for interviews and they have nothing to do till their number is called their name is called they said they're humming you know uh a song or uh i've seen people in restaurants uh when they order a dish and until the waiter brings their food you know they're just tapping their feet and humming some song apostle paul and paul were not humming like that they were singing songs to god right just singing a song is different from singing a song to god they were praising god it there was there was a recipient to that song there was you know it's like making a phone call when you dial you don't just you don't just take the phone and start talking when you dial you wait for a response from the other end and when you know the connection is established then you start talking similarly apostle paul and silas when they began to praise god they knew there was a connection the holy spirit had connected with the presence of god their hearts were connected to the holy spirit they began to praise look they started with prayer but worship became a part of their prayer why the holy spirit got involved in their emotions well you can't do this in your daily family prayer of course family prayer has got a format has got a style has got a time limit but in your personal prayers not every day but there can be times where you you take time saying i don't care how long it's going to take i'm going to spend time before god and allow holy spirit to churn your emotions teenagers i want to tell you young guys learn to pray like this it is beautiful practice prayer like this it is it's not boring you don't have to talk much you just have to submit your feelings at the feet of your master jesus and let the holy spirit really move in your heart so apostle paul and silas their hands and feet are in chains they are in the prison all right they are bonded right they are bound fetters and chains on their hands and feet they are locked up in the jail and as they were praying in the midnight look they've got pains look they've got all kinds of shame on them look they've got all kinds of injustice and feelings of violence against them but they submitted everything to the master and they said master we submit everything to you as they were praying they weren't praying for deliverance it doesn't look like they were praying for coming out of the prison probably they were praying god bring us out soon but they were ensured they're going to come out they just let the holy spirit lead their prayer and they began to worship do your prayer and my prayer have times of spontaneous worship or do we just start with a certain format and end with a certain format and end our prayer time like that that's okay but there must be times at least you know i can't tell you a frequency like once in a week or once in a month because these are very personal things with god but it's good to allow some time where the holy spirit interrupts your prayer and you have spontaneous moments of worship and prayer and singing you don't have to complete every prayer in the formal way that you've been taught you can allow the holy spirit to take lordship over your prayer time oh they began to sing and they began to worship and guess what happened the bible says i call this chapter the chapter with open heavens and broken chains hallelujah the heavens opened above them in the middle of the night while they were singing and worshiping god in the middle of the night when everything was impossible as they were worshiping god in prayer automatically the chains from their hands fell off hallelujah you know when you worship god every bondage will break whether it's bondages of anxiety it's bondages of cancer it is bondages of sickness if it's bondages of wrong relationship if it's bondages of poor habits and culture that you just can't give away maybe bondages of habits and as a character you know wrong character or bound to wrong relationships in worship those things are broken by the power of the holy spirit man as a pastor one of my great privileges is to see transformed the people people who had drug addicts and drunkards for i don't know you know from adam's time people who are bound in wrong relationships and addicted to pornography and addicted to vices people who were addicted just had no hope had no scope some people who were so poverty bound they just couldn't come out of their loans and couldn't come out of their financial struggles i've seen families i've seen young individuals i've seen guys they've written their exams like i don't know how many times and just can't clear their exams but when they decide to get into prayer and allow the holy spirit to lead them in worship something breaks that was holding them something snaps that was having them bound and they are free they are delivered by the power of the holy spirit suddenly they're passing their exams suddenly they're clearing the interviews suddenly they're closing their loans suddenly they're buying up the house as their own which they just couldn't have suddenly bad relationships are broken suddenly addictions have left them and they've come out clean suddenly the tumor is missing and the doctor says that cancer is not malignant anymore why because in worship and prayer chains fall off even if there is no one beside you even in the midnight god works miracles in worship hallelujah amen the bible says their chains fell off their chains fell off and all the other prisoners see all around them abound and none around them were singing don't let your community affect you they were in a community of groaning and angry and irritated and murmuring and quiet prisoners but they decided to be a worshipping prisoner just because others are imprisoned with a different character doesn't mean you have to become like them you can be a worshipper you may be in bondage you may oh pastor i'll worship god after i become clean i'll praise god and i'll pray properly after i come out of my bad habits or a bad relationship no no no in the prison in your bondage become a worshiper hallelujah and the bondages will break oh i'm a homosexual i really can't worship jesus no you can and when you worship the lord your bondage will be broken in the name of jesus and you'll come out into the image that god formed you into image of god all of these negative lifestyles and alternate lifestyles will leave you and you'll walk in the holiness and purity of god amen amen oh pastor people look at me and they say i'll never change god never said that people didn't create you god created you god says you can change worship in prayer is powerful hallelujah broken chains open heavens open doors amen when we pray with the holy spirit in charge of our lives the results are very different from usual when you pray in the holy spirit you know you must allow the spiritual prayers to become a part of defining moments of your life especially when you're going to choose a marriage partner you're going to pick up a job or you're going to choose where you want to spend the rest of your life as buying a house or you know there are pivotal moments of life don't you do it without allowing solid time long times of prayer where the holy spirit leads those prayers it's very important to let the holy spirit you know lead you and when spirit-led prayer happens you know you should you should become unconscious of time don't allow time restrictions in those kind of things you know prayer is a privilege on the earth but in heaven it's going to be a completely different format right i believe one of these days christ our lord is coming to take us home you and me that are a praying church christ is going to come to take us home we're going to be gone prayer is not something you're going to do always prayer is something only for this side of eternity only on the planet earth and once we are gone to be with the lord prayer gets turned into a completely different format so practice good spirit-led prayer and this month i tell you i believe when i'm saying this in faith your life is gonna see transformation amen it's not because some anointed man laid hands on your head and prayed well that's not bad but because you allow the holy spirit to change your prayer time to be led by the spirit where your emotions were placed at the feet of jesus where you allowed your feelings to be placed at the feet of your master amen that's why the lord jesus in matthew chapter 5 onwards teaching about prayer he emphasized the importance of shutting your door when you go to pray because your heavenly father will reward you in open your prayer times sometimes got to be so private that high priest like eli will not confuse and and curse you instead of blessing you but allow those private moments with god to be led by the holy spirit i just feel like praying with you shall we close up our eyes and say lord we welcome your holy spirit in our life we really welcome your holy spirit to allow the leadership of your spirit that your holy spirit will actually take charge of our prayer times that our emotions will be led by your holy spirit hallelujah sometimes our emotions that are sinful that are against the purity of your word help us to bring it in subjection to your holy spirit oh holy spirit you're welcome to change our lives you're welcome to transform our lives anoint us anoint us anoint us for that life of prayer which is victorious thank you lord sometimes prayer may be noisy and sometimes it will be silent sometimes it's full of celebration sometimes it's contemplative but however prayer should not be just controlled by religious tradition it shouldn't be just controlled by rules and regulations our prayers should be led by the holy spirit yes we do have our religious activity of prayer that we do as a discipline and that's good that's not bad but in addition to that oh holy spirit of god help us to have those moments of prayer where we are led by you in the privacy of seeking you father this morning as your servant i bless your son your daughter your child i bless this family i pray for your favor upon them i pray they will walk in your victory hallelujah as much as they are giving of tights or offerings or as much as they're giving of time or talents i pray now you'll bless the giving of their emotions at your feet of their feelings as we place it at your feet anoint bless empower and help us to honor our emotional commitment to you that we will not allow it by your grace and strength in any way to turn in disrespect of your word of your presence we love you father in jesus name i declare your healings upon your people i declare your miracles upon your people i declare your victory upon your people hallelujah i thank you master i thank you for your mighty touch thank you for testimonies that are going to rise up of your grace
