Leather High Heel Boots? - Nicks Handmade Boots

hey guys grant with nick's handmade boots here and i got to be honest with you i like big heels and i cannot lie in our last video we talked about our lasts and the general shape of our boots we talked about the robert with the higher heel higher arch and the falcon today we're going to be talking about the function of boots why do some boots have these big giant heels on them and others don't to answer this question we gotta look at boot history for many people who are not from the pacific northwest these big heels are a little bit concerning to say the least who would actually wear these what do they actually do well let's get into some history as logging took off in this country it became apparent that we needed a logging boot a boot that would get you off of the ground a boot that you could lock in climbing spikes to and a boot with a heel that you could anchor into the ground to prevent you from slipping turns out that lineman also found a value in the logger style heel the logger heel provided a gap here to where they could hook in their gaps for climbing come to find out that packers also found value in a higher heel as the heel profile allowed them to lock in on the stirrups preventing them from slipping out so not only do these does the high heel act as a tool or function but it also allows for the shoe last itself as you can see the drop from the heel to the forefoot to have significant arch support and having a higher heel allows boot makers to build arch support into the boots so what if you're not a lineman you're not riding a horse for a living why on earth would you want one of these high heeled boots well again it's because of that arch support if you're somebody that's prone to buy insoles or orthotics if you've seen a podiatrist and they're recommending arch supports for you just because you don't need this as a tool the heel you might want to pursue these boots because of the added arch support so if you fall into that category where you don't necessarily need the heel for function but you like the sound of arch support you'd be checking out our 55 and our 11067 lasts on our website this sounds too good to be true why on earth would i not want a high-heeled boot with arch support well because some professions don't allow it why is there a whole market surrounded around wedge souls well iron workers some roofers carpenters having this big heel can actually be a liability or a safety concern some professions require as much surface area as you can to grip the surface you're working on so that you don't fall or slip so somewhere in between these logger style heels and these wedge soles are the h w block heel boots again for those that don't necessarily need a lot of arch support if you don't wear orthotics and you really like the classic look and shape of the block heel take a look at our boots that are titled ft or h w that's going to be the way to go so again for those that need the heel for function climbers tradesmen loggers wildland firefighters even take a look at our boots on the 55 and the 11067 last for those that don't need the heel for function but you've been prescribed orthotics or you like the sound of more arch support even though it's got the heel take a look at the 55 and 67 as well if arch support is something you've never really thought about you don't wear insoles or orthotics in your footwear and you really like kind of that classic block heel take a look at any boots on the ft or the h w last both in our work boots and in our heritage line so if you like high heels and you cannot lie go ahead and subscribe below and actually if you don't like high heels go ahead and subscribe below we'll catch you on the next one [Music] you
