Hello everyone. thanks for joining me today we're going to have some fun playing with Design Positioning and I'm going to take you through my process, kind of from beginning to end how I think about a design and then how I use the design on the screen so sometimes we kind of jump right ahead to the machine and we don't always understand what's happening the first design that I'm going to use is a very very simple design. it can be set up as a design that you can use for edge to edge. Quilting, I know many of you use designs for edge-to-edge quilting, but you don't always use the process of Design Positioning to do it. There's a lot of complicated ways out of out there to do it, but there is much easier ways if you're using HUSQVARNA VIKING with Design Positioning. so if you have a topaz forty a topaz fifty you have basic design Positioning and almost everything that you're going to see today you can do with Design. With your machine for those of you that have the ruby's diamonds and all of the other machines you have the full version of Design Positioning, which means not only can you move the designs up and down and side to side, but you can also rotate them and at the last 10 minutes of the show, I want to show you how to do that. but II kind of want to keep it simple so that for those of you that are brand new to Design Positioning you can get a feel for how it works and not make it too complicated. That's why we're starting with an edge-to-edge to. The one that I used on this quilt, it's a little flower design. This design is not in the library yet, but it will be at some point so look for it when it joins it there. So what I did is I brought this on my computer so I can see how it's stitching out so I'm going to change over to my computer screen. And when I'm over here I want you to see the two designs. This is the first design. It's a corner Design and then there is a design that you can use. for the length of the borders or for an edge to edge for the whole length of it. if you want to you can do it without using the corner. so what's the most important to me is how is this going to embroider? Where is the start and the finish? That's what I need to know if I'm going to be using this for an edge-to-edge quilt design, so I'm going to. It just so you can see them both together. and if I go to the design player and drag this slider bar to the other end. it will show me how the design is going to start as I I'm just going to drag it because it's a little quicker and then it shows you the first stitch in the next design so that is where it's going to start stitching right here at this point is where it's going to join the last point in that corner if you decide to use the corner and then the last. Part of this design will be down at the bottom. So I'm going to cancel out of that and I'm going to ungrounded. doing here. I'll zoom in so you can see it. We want when we're doing an edge to edge design, we want to be able to place one stitch right next to to the other. I usually will overlap it a tiny bit just so that I know it's connected and that is what we're going to do in Design Positioning. It is very very easy. There are a lot of different ways of doing edge-to-edge quilting, but when you're doing this kind of thing and you're using Design Positioning, I think that's the best way out there. What. You can do is zoom in to an exact stitch and only takes a second to do that. And that is the thing that makes our design Positioning different from a lot of other features that are out there in other machines because most machines they cannot zoom in to that kind of in that close of a stitch. If it is a zigzag, I will be able to see one side of the zigzag and the other So after we finish this, I'm going to show you how I made a belt and I'm going to show you that process I have two or three different projects that I'm going to bring you through the process of it, but I thought we would start simple so right. I have. this design in my Hoop. Let me get my Hoop here and I'm going to pretend. that I've stitched the first corner here. I'm going to pretend that this is going to be an edge to edge design where I'm going to just kind of keep going with it. so I'm not using the Endless soup. The Endless soup only works when you're doing a border when I worked on the quilt and I did the border on the double wedding ring quilt I used the the endless so this one right here. Alright and. I just opened it up put my Hoop in and then kept going along the border, but if you're doing. if you're doing a quilt and you're doing the whole quilt with the same design like the design the quilt on the back there, that is an edge-to-edge quilt design and I went from the left to the right and then from the right to the left and kept going backwards and I use Design Positioning to do that kind of thing anytime I'm doing an edge-to-edge quilting. Alright. so what I'm going to do is I've already got this Design loaded on my machine. I'm going to switch. Over there and I'm going to put my Hoop on and we're going to get right to using Design Positioning. Alright So right now, I want to go to the machine screen and I'm going to head over there I accidentally knocked my fabric out of the Hoop, so I'll have to get it back in there is my design that you're seeing. I have a lot of actually samples to show you that I don't think you've seen before so hopefully you'll enjoy it. hold on. I'm just getting my fabric here. I clicked it out. Apparently I didn't tighten it up. that never happens to anybody. does it. In a second, Alright now so there is my design that I have in my Hoop. I'm just going to tighten it up a little bit. and. remember. the topaz fifty the Topaz forty has the same ability the advantage of having some machines that have this bigger screen is that we see it a little better but we still have the same ability what I'm doing even with the topaz forty and fifty. so right now. Start back this is our main screen our edit screen that we have. I have my design. I'm not really worrying about where that design is it can be anywhere because I'm going to use Design Positioning to do it, but you can only get to design Positioning when you're in the embroidery stitch out screen. so right now you're on the edit screen you're not going to see Design Positioning and I'm going to touch go now when I'm quilting a quilt, I usually do turn the jump stitch command off and I'm going to. Continue And then it says, put my Hoop on. And so now I am ready to go to Design Positioning you notice the Red Cross here the Red Cross is the first stitch. and that is important as I'm going because I know that that is going to where the design starts and that's where I want to line it up. so when I head over here to my Hoop, Oops sorry wrong one to my Hoop my design, My first stitch is right here but my designs over. Here so if I want to move it, that is when I'm going to open up Design Positioning so I'm going to come back. to my machine screen Design Positioning is this little flower that you see in the very bottom of the screen. and when I touch and open it, you're going to know that that's where you are. Because up above, it tells me I'm in Design Positioning now I do want to mention if anybody has any questions as we're going, I will try and answer them. Meredith is going to and Thomas are going to type them in there for me somebody asked a question about. Can you use a magnetic hoop? Yes, you can and actually I have something set up with the magnetic hoop and I try to use a little bit of everything to explain to you when I would want to use it or not. when you're doing edge to edge. Quilting a magnetic hoop is the perfect perfect option you're really going to be able to do it quickly to keep moving the design and it's even really easier because you really just know that that the first stitch is the needle is so you're just going to put the last stitch move the fabric to where the needle is and then you're set and ready to go. Alright. So I'm going to go and I want you to look at the bottom left hand corner of my screen if there's a 123 and Alright, when you see down over here 1234 I'll just zoom in a little bit. Maybe so you can see it. Alright This is the magic that happens now right now. Cross here that is where my needle is, That's where the first stitches if I wanted to change that placement, I would touch number one and. Needle position that's that placement stitch would move from where it is to wherever I want. maybe I want to know where the end is finishing up so I can see if the design is going to be too long for the area, I have left to stitch but I'm happy with that. so I'm going to leave it, which means I'm going to touch number two. and when I touch number two my Hoop. My needle moves to that place where I have the Hoop now my goal right now is I want to move the design so on the screen where I have my machine, my design, I'm going to drag the sign like this and I'll get it close so you can kind of see. I'm going to move the design like that. and you can see at the top corner. you can see I've got a little machine screen there so when I drag it to where I want it to be I can get it close. usually what I want to do is use the crosshairs that that's down at the circle at the bottom there's arrows so when I get it very close, I'll use these arrows to get it exactly where I want it to be. I need to move it. It a little bit, and then I'll put my needle down in the fabric so that I can test to see how accurate that is so let me zoom in a little bit, so you can kind of see so my needle needs to go right in that stitch and when I know that it's right, okay. I'll lift it up here then I am ready to get out of Design Positioning so back on my screen, I'm in Design Positioning I need to get. Is there? So I go back to my embroidery edit screen when I touch the check mark My needle doesn't move because that is where the first stitches. and then I'm set. on my Hoop. Let me zoom out a little bit, so you can kind of see a little bit of a difference here. you could if you're a real quilter wanting to be sure the back looks nice, you could bring up the bobbin thread if you think it's longer I usually just let it do. It's pull the tail down and cut that afterwards when it's finished doing the tie off and all I'm going to do. Is press the start button and that Design starts right like this. It says cut my thread and I can just keep going. Now, I'm not going to keep stitching because I don't want to take the time for you to be watching that stitch out, but it is that easy to do an edge to edge Design The major thing is how do you know? where when you go to are Hoop it to do the next one. So. when I'm making a design like this, this is a design that I did just this morning I did this one first. This is one of the Moroccan tile designs. It's got two different stitches. Like a background, echo quilting and then I used the silver thread for the top and then when I did the second one, I did it differently So II wanted you to see what it look like the bottom one. I skipped the Echo quilting and all I did was the silver outline, but I did it in a lighter a darker color, so you could kind of see it. so somebody asked a question. Can I use number one to just make sure my design is in the center? It's not when you're a number one you are choosing where your needle where. Point is where you're going to check. alright and as we go, it's not necessarily important that it's in the center. It's important that that first stitch that we were using is where the the the cross hairs and it was, But if you wanted to check it, you could go there and do it when we go into the next design that we're going to do there is multiple parts of it when we do the belt so we might check one side and we'll go back to number one to choose a different point and I think it becomes more clear as we start to do that there was a. About it's the same design Positioning as the Designer diamond exactly the same, whether you've got a ruby or a diamond or an epic, they're all a sapphire 85 two the logic behind it is exactly the same now here. Here is my biggest challenge because I see a lot of people out there who never go into Design Positioning and then they've got an emergency and all of a sudden they're using Design Positioning. It's like Oh my gosh. I don't know what I'm doing. This is something I use every day the way that I make such nice projects is because I use Design Positioning every day so I started with something like this something easy right where I was going to repeat the same thing many many times. and then I moved to a little more complicated design so this design that I made right here this I actually this was my one of my very first things that I ever did as a whole cloth quilt. It was a design that. In the Moroccan tiles and I just put a cheap piece of fabric, I put some batting and some backing in there and I practiced alright. When you are doing this Design, what you're seeing in the hoop here this little one Design. This is one quarter of the design and they're meant to kind of be next to each other and Miriam image so that as you're going, you're going to mirror image it and do the next one down here and then you will take this one mirror. image it the other way and keep going and you can build a hole in the hoop. a whole cloth quilt with doing this. alright. So somebody asked the question what I mean is, I can't see where the placement crosshairs I can use the hand icon and then I can't figure out how to get back to the design. Well, let's wait for that because I think as we go, it'll be a little more clear and as we get toward the end, I'll ask you again to see so this is a design you can see that I just used the fabric. This was my practice sheet and I really recommend something like this if you do not haven't done a. With design Positioning is just get yourself a design that you think that's pretty easy and take a piece of fabric and just do it again and again and again so that you get really comfortable. with how Design Positioning works. This was my first time I ever did it and I learned so much from this and I was really I was just overjoyed and excited by doing it So then the next thing I did every one of these designs in a Moroccan tiles is also has an an embroidery design. this is the embroidery design that matches this. Quilt design and I think if you look at it, you'll kind of see the similarities. Alright you notice the flower in the center of the pillow. Well there is your flower right along this edge here that is forming the flower for there. so that's kind of fun. so I always kind of look at it from a perspective of start simple use it all the time and then build your skills as you're going and get into more difficult things after I did. One then I did the one on the back wall there that has 36 blocks and it's done on a black cotton velvet just like this one is. and II did exactly the same process I looked at the design in the software in my computer and saw how it was laid out how things join and then I did a practice one. so this one I did four blocks. Yes, you can somebody else. Can you do corner designs using this method? So? Let me get rid of these two things. Alright and I'll get rid of this now over in our machine, We're going to I'll show you how you can find some of these designs you can find them in your computer. There are a lot of these are in the library. and that you can also if you're on some of our newest machines, you can actually look at the library right inside. so let me just switch over for a moment and I'm going to go and show you how you can kind of recognize these designs because many of you may not know how to recognize what a design looks like so I'm just going to go. My computer screen here for a second and I'm going to go to the library. Let's see I thought I pulled it up, but maybe I didn't let me just put this down here. I'm going to go to my son library and I'm going to type in. Let me go here. I'm going to type in Moroccan tiles. Because this is a really great way to get to a lots of designs really quickly so all of these designs that you're seeing here this one right here is the one from that big wall hanging on the wall and it is one quarter of a block and when you put them together, you will see how they're all put together this design here. I've seen this done on a pillow. It's a chain, stitch and Patty Mueller did this on a pillow and it was absolutely stunning, but look at all of these designs. They're all mint like this would be a very easy one to do. it's it is a. Just like you would find in home decor, alright, I'm going to bring it into my computer and I'll just show you how I look and evaluate how a design is made. Alright. So here's my design now. I don't just bring that Design in. I really want to look at it and see how it stitches out. so it's bigger than this is quite a large Design. If I'm right now, I have my 360 by 260 Hoop on, but if I wanted to see what it would look like, I can enter my own Hoop size and let's make it. 500 alright, not 5500. so now what I'm going to be able to do is put them. Oops. I guess I did that wrong. I made it fifty by 500. let's add a zero and say okay. So now I have one Design and I can copy and paste it and I can visually see what this is going to look like. alright and I can see how it joins what it's going to look like in the middle, there should be a little space here like this and now. I can combine them and I'm going to duplicate that hold on and you'll get a sense to see what I'm doing. I'm going to rotate it just in case there's any difference of the way that looks now look at how gorgeous that is so I would have to Hoop that four times because this is quite a large Design. I'm going to go back to the original by just going backwards. and getting that one Design done and if I wanted to stitch that out, then I would go and just bring that Design in the system out one at a time because that's as big as it would fit. When you're doing any of these things alright here, this is a secret that I use okay. I if I'm using a regular Hoop for when I'm doing a design that's all in the hoop on one piece of fabric before it starts stitching. I'll take a fabric, pencil or chalk or something that's going to last for a while, and I will mark the inside of my Hoop with either a fried on pen or some kind of a chalk pencil on the dark. I'd have to use this chalks pencil and then. What would happen is after I've done my embroidery, I'm going to unhook all the fabric. I'm going to lay that what I'm working on flat and then I will extend these lines down this way and this way because it makes it faster to get it back into the Hoop, not because I can't use Design Positioning but I'm going to like to save time too. somebody said. Can you change those designs in the line? Stitch only similar to what you can do with the super designs and the software No these. Designs so you could resize them, but I would be careful if they're chain it because sometimes it takes away stitches that you don't want to take away. Alright. So this is important if you are going to do a design on a large piece of cloth like a whole cloth, quilt or you're going to be doing something where you know you're going to be hooping and are hooping I generally use the hoops when I'm going to be doing that that you can screw into place and I Hoop the fabric because sometimes as you're stitching the fabric moves in a little bit and so I. Like to be able to stretch the fabric if I need to and you can't really do that with a metal Hoop. so there's certain things when I'm doing this that I like to have my fabric in the hoop because I control it a little bit better and then I know if I see the lines that I've drawn when I go to rehome it, sideways or up and down it is going to keep me straight on as I'm doing it. I'll show you a couple of other examples and then we're going to go and do the belt. Alright so with this whole cloth quilt that was done exactly the same. These are all designs that were done. in using Design Positioning and I started in the center and then kept doing all of them. This is another design. that's really easy and fun to do and I recommend doing this one because you're the designs only like 3000 stitches so you can do one you can move the hoop and do another one move the hoop and do another one within an hour and a half you've done it four times so everything's clicking about how Design Positioning is work so what I'm going to do. Is. I've done this belt? Alright? So this was I did this with an endless soup and when I did this belt the design is just a very repetitive belt. If you want to find this in the library, look at ribbons and straps and you will see them. somebody asked asked I'm using I'm not using the clips for the larger hoops I personally do not use the clips unless I'm doing an extraordinarily dense Design if you have a machine that has. Design Positioning You generally don't need them. I'm not Design Positioning Sorry the deluxe stitch system so the topaz forty and fifty does not have the deluxe system, but if you have a machine that has a deluxe stitch system, it'll say Deluxe or royal and then all the newer embroidery machines have the deluxe system that is really extraordinary because it's only going to meter out as much as you need for the density and the fabric that you're working with so I do not find that the clip. Are necessary if you have a machine that has a deluxe stitch system and even on you know incredibly dense designs like the one up here I did. I hooked it, but I didn't use the clips but you're on the right idea You do need some support right so if you're using a metal hoop or you're using the Endless Hoop, there's more potential for the fabric to move in and so when I'm doing a whole cloth quilt, I tend to use a quilt that I can screw the design in. He said, Can't you just use the Endless soup for the project before the belt? Of course, you can you can do whatever you want to. I'm telling you it's all up to you experimenting and what you like. alright. So if you are doing this one here you can use the Endless Hoop as long as you're at the border and the design fits in there, but there are some designs that are bigger than the Endless Hoop or some designs where you want to do in the middle of the quilt and in that case, the only option is a regular Hoop or the metal Hoop. So those would be your two choices when you're working in the middle of fabric like this, I'm going to go over it and I'm going to load this design actually, I'm going to use a different one because I never like to do the same thing twice. so what I started with this was done on a. kind of a really nice quality faux leather and this one has got a lot of support. It's got a flannel back to it if I had a leather that was didn't have a nice back to it, I would use the fashion Fuse Stabilizer on the back first because it would stop the leather from perforated. But the this was the first coloration that I did and then I decided I don't like that. so I changed it up and then I this is what I have done from there. so I've already gone and kept going down and this way I chose this design so you can kind of see it. I think you'll be able to see the thread colors very good. and we're going to go and I'm going to load this design so you can see how I would finish this up now this could be a strap for a bag right. Right now, you can see I just have this one in that's not done right here. or it could be a belt if it was a belt for me, I need to add a few more pieces to it, but for you, it might fit you just perfectly so you decide what you want to do and when you're ready, you put the end on it when I did this one This one was one I made as a bell for myself and I thought well, it's kind of cool, but I really decided. I'm not a belt kind of person and over the years that's only gotten worse, so my daughter said that this was could be a great camera strap and. I was telling the story to somebody. who was yes, you can use real leather somebody asked a question about that when I was doing this, I was in a store and somebody was they were thinking about buying a designer epic two and they were wondering how they could kind of make a little bit of money so that they could pay it so they she loved the idea of this, but she wasn't in the camera. So I said what was she into? she said she was into guitars so she started making these she used real. I think for the whole piece it cost her about $9 per for guitar strap, she added. a little more bling you can see, I've added some bling to mine, but she added a little more and she was charging between three and $400. Now, I'm not in the guitars but like it is amazing right. Do you want to make quilts and sell them you know and and you know get paid 99¢ per hour or do you want to make something like this that you can do in less than a day and it really does look finished. so I'm going to tell you what I. For this because I think this is a really cool technique and remember you can find all of these designs in the library they're under if you put in ribbon and straps, that's where they're going to be. I'm going to ask you a question you guys are asking questions I haven't got to yet. so I'm going to come back to some of these about the backing of the because I think that's pretty cool. isn't it. It looks like I embroidered through the leather and I really didn't so I'm going to go over to the machine. I'll pull up the design and we're going to go back to Design Positioning. To talk about how I can use a continuous Design for this one I am using the Endless Endless soup, but I wish I had used the metal Hoop and I'll tell you why when I get there, okay. So let me come back over to the screen and. I'm going to get my Hoop. I take the soup off. And let's make it lift this up here. Alright, so I'm going to just delete that design. I'm going to go back to my embroidery stitch out. And I'm going to get rid of that design that I have there by touching fleet now I could go up to the library right from my Designer at two if I wanted to look for those Moroccan tiles the library I can access right from my machine. I don't have to go to the computer to do it on some of the machines like the original epic and some other machines you have to do it from your computer, but look at all these beautiful designs that are in here. Let me show you this one before I get sidetracked. I know I'm getting sidetracked. I do think this is pretty cool where did it go to this one here. Alright, that's the design. that I actually did. I've got it in there twice on this piece of fabric. So look at this. Can you see this that's big and you can see how beautiful that is let me see if I can pull it over here so you can see it a little bit farther back. Look at how gorgeous that is. I've got two more designs to do but this is on one piece of fabric and it is just amazing how we can do this and it's all because of Design Positioning. Alright. let me get rid of that. I'm going to go to the designs that are saved in my cloud because that's where I have it. and this is the. Of the design that I've gotta do alright, so it was the beginning and it's also the end so I'm going to mirror image it and I'll just move it and it really doesn't matter where I move it I'm going to put. My Endless Hoop on my machine, I'm going to touch go because remember you can access Design Positioning here you can only do it when you touch go. Oops, I don't I didn't check my Hoop. I need to change my Endless Hoop hold on a second here. My Endless soup is 260 by 150 e. That's my Endless soup that I'm using. okay. And once once I've got that in there, I'm going to change it and touch go. I'm going to turn everything back on here, my cutter and I'm going to touch continue. I'm putting my Endless soup in place. And I don't have any fabric in it right now, you see that so when you're working with the Endless soup, it's kind of fun because you can bring that in and that's almost like the last thing you do. so there is my leather that I've been doing and I'm just going to pull it up till it gets to the point. It's not looking very elegant. sorry about that. Alright, so I am going to put the edge of the leather over against this edge. Let me see if I can show you this right here on this this edge of the Hoop. Alright, I'm going to line it up and I'm going to move it up so that I can still see that design. in the hoop and then I snap it close and there's my snap it close it was opened and then the. I just snap it like that, so that's how an endless soup works. It's pretty easy and it is very very nice to do it now. I have my design. my leather is looking a little bit bumpy. And the the leather is kind of nice and stiff, but it kind of sits above. above the surface a little bit now if I was using my Metal Hoop the leather would have sat perfectly flat on the machine and when I was doing this belt, it would have been I think a better process and that's how we all learn right. We we try something and we say well, The Endless Hoop is good for great for doing this, but maybe in this case with this leather, yeah, I might have liked the the metal Hoop better because I would see that the fabric would sit flatter on that Hoop. You'll see the design back here. the only way that I'm going to line this up is by going into Design Positioning. so I'm going to show you back to my machine screen. and here is my design my thread colors I can see my thread colors and this is the only time that you can get to design Positioning is when you're an embroidery. This I think is a very. sometimes people don't. Realize they wonder well where is Design Positioning you have to be able to be in your embroidery stitches screen. so you see the thread colors and then you will be able to access Design Positioning. So on this machine, it's down below here this flower on a diamond. It's a flower that's over on the left here, Usually it is a symbol of the flower for all of the machines so that makes it kind of easy for you to recognize I'm going to touch Design Positioning and let me see if I can. You. I'll zoom in a little bit so that you can see. Alright, there's my one. one. Let me see if there's a question here. Can you change the background? Yes. let me change the background you want to make it less bright. I will go back out. And when I go to my edit screen. I can leave my Hoop on if I say touch the X and to change your Hoop colors. What you do is you go? No, you don't go there you go to the grid. Touch and hold on the grid and you can choose a color. let's make it a light blue. Oh, that's kind of boring. I don't like light blue light green. beige. Purple. Let's try purple. Alright so I'm going to turn the grid off so there I'm going to go back. I hope this is easier for you to see. And I'm back in my embroidery stitches screen. I'm going to open up Design Positioning so the first thing I'm going to do is touch number one. now you see the crosshairs right here That is my very first stitch in that design. That's not very helpful at all to line things up. so I'm going to touch number one and now that crosshairs turquoise. Alright. I'm going to zoom in a little bit so you can see here. I'm pooping I'm going to get it like that. I think you can get that all on the screen. Let's try that. So that cross hair, I need that to be either and there is an endless marker here, but I'm not going to use it because I want to make it a little more challenging for myself if I want to zoom in and this is very important if you're doing something where you really want to be exact, you have these functions to be able to zoom in if I touch this cross here the first option in my zoom, it will bring me exactly to where this crosshairs alright, So I'm going to touch that and look at that. Zoomed right in so that I can see exactly where that design is. I'm going to choose the center of that satin stitch that red satin Stitch Okay and when I would touch the other one that I use is zoom out so right now when I'm in here I always zoom in as close as I can right now, I'm zoomed in 529. 529%. There are no other machines in the market that you can go and do this kind of thing and zoom right in any machine that's got. Positioning that you can zoom in like this, you can see both sides of that satin stitch. That's pretty extraordinary II think that's what makes this so good is because you can actually see a needle point here is the cross This is a Endless marker stitch that if we wanted, we could use that, but I deliberately didn't stitch the last one because I wanted to show you what you would do if you didn't have the Endless marker. so we're going to do this. alright so I can adjust small adjustments by choosing the arrow. Here like this alright, get it where you think you want it now when I touch number two. my attention is going to go over to the hoop so I'm going to move over to the hoop and I'll leave a little window. for the. for for my screen. I'm going to touch number two. and now my needle moves to where that point is. it's nowhere near where I need it to be is it so now what I'm going to do and I'll zoom in so that you can see this better. On my screen, I'm going to drag that design. to wear the red satin stitches and you can see I'm kind of getting close. Alright. This is where I'll stop and I'll put my needle down. I'm on the right edge of that satin stitch. so I'm going to lift the needle back up and now I'm going to use a little. wheel at the bottom with the crosshairs to kind of get it. so it's ripe and I think I went too far. There we go so now I know this side is pretty darn good. There's another place here where the blue zigzag that's coming down. This might be another interesting place to check and I also want to find out what's happening on my satin stitch on the other side right so in this case what I'm doing is I'm going to go back to number one. and I'm going to zoom back out to the full screen and. I'm my crosshairs now can be moved this time what I want to do is I'm going to go to that zigzag. That's in the the down the whole center of the design, so I'm going to zoom in and this is what I do every time. It's it's a very repetitive thing. I go to number one and I select get close to where I want to be. then I zoom in so I can see exactly where it is that I want to be. I'm going to move that design to the edge of that. Zigzag that's going down the whole belt. now I'm going to come back out to the full screen, so I can kind of see where that is. it's it's time to touch number two now so when I touch number two, that's time to go to my Hoop. and now my needle has moved to where that point that I selected is and if I put the needle down, I can see it is exactly where it needs to be. In that top of that satin stitch, right, let me move it up. get it up out of the way here So when the needle comes down, it's coming down exactly where it needs to be. so I'm pretty sure the designs lined up. but what happen if I Hoop the fabric crooked right I should probably check over here too. So then what I'm going to do is I'm going to on my screen. go back to number one I'm going to move that point over to the red satin stitch on the other side. I'm going to zoom in. and get it so that it's in the center of that Satin stitch. And I can use the arrows too if I want to. and now the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to touch number two and then my eyes are going to go to the hoop. I'm going to touch number two. and my eyes go to the hoop and I can see when I turn the needle down that that is absolutely perfect. It goes exactly where I want it to be and if for some reason, maybe this was moved, I might have to stretch it out or something. this gives me the to check with that. So I'm going to come back. Screen and and let's see about the questions if there's any questions here. Alright. So somebody asked a question about how do you handle the weight of a quilt when you're embroidery? I work with the designer epic two I've done a queen size quilt with a designer Diamond and and I've I've done larger quilts with the designer, epic and epic two also so it's important that the weight of the quilt is on a table or on some chairs so when you're working on it if you think about. Very large quilt only half of it has to be in the in the opening right in between the the needle and the tower the rest of it's hanging out around. sometimes it's hanging behind. so wherever you've got a quilt fabric. It's important that it's supported by a table or chairs, so the weight of it is not hanging down on your embroidery arm and causing it to go out of position Now, it's it's very easy to get it back if something happened right now on my machine, I like many of you. Don't realize this but on most of our newer machines when you are in embroidery, if something happened to knock your arm out of calibration you don't have to go back and turn your go back into embroidery at it. You don't you never have to turn your machine off when it comes to those machines, but with the designer ES and the newer machines like that you take your Hoop of you touch the button and that the one that you use to take your Hoop off and it will. Your arm, you put your Hoop back on. it's going to leave you right in. embroidery stitch out exactly where you left off somebody asked a question about when do you use Design, three and four, and I'm going to come to that. at the the end, I don't want to get things too confused. So I'm going to cover that in a second, somebody says. So you didn't use Stabilizer and any of this material. No I did use I use the tear-away on the belt. Alright. And I'm going to take this out. and come back. Let me come back here for this because I want to tell you about the next steps So what I do you can see there's tear-away back here. Alright. so the next step for the belt is I've tear-away the tear-away I tear away all the tear-away I clean up the back, then what I do is I use stitch in Fuse to it's an inspire product you can buy it by the sheet. Some dealers have it as a roll and you can you can buy yardage of it that way, but then I. Take all the tear-away off the back clean up. The back is that pretty and then I'm going to iron. This is the Stick infused To on the back of it after done that I'm going to usually I'll try and make the most amount of my belt. I'll just either fold it down like this right. So now I have this in the back. What's really important is when you're pressing this because you do need to press it so that it'll become attached. You're going to go to your own, you're going to put a nice pressing sheet on top of it and have and have it so that it sticks and then once that's all done all I'm going to do is I'm going to trim. right close to that edge and this is really nice when you're using faux velvets and things like that what I usually do is I'm going to stitch right in the ditch right next to that Satin stitch. so if I satin stitch isn't perfect, you can hide all kinds of things by doing that. Usually what I'll do is I'll use the reinforced stitch so it's going to go forward back. Back and it's going to give it a really classy look to it and then I'm going to trim about an eighth of an inch on the outside edge and so it is ends up looking very finished like this and the back looks like it's completely done and if I was using a full leather, this one's got a gray background, then I would take a marker. That's the same color as my faux leather and I would color that in and everybody would think that you stitch leather or your vinyl like that. So. Somebody's asked a question about how do you handle the excess yolk? I've told I do not usually roll when I'm working with a big quilt. Now I have a designer too, So I've got all the space in the world right so generally speaking when I'm quilting with that, I don't need to do that now. I'll pull up a quilt that I've done let me see. I'm going to change this over here. So let me come back out here. I'm going to change over to my Hoop. alright and go back. I'm going to put the biggest tube on. But I want to show you this quilt. Alright, This is a quilt that I quilted I embroidered it. wait for me to get it settled here. Alright. this is 90.5 inches. I promise you you'll see a little bit of a bigger screen in a second here. Alright So if you have this larger area, I'm going to bring it back out here so you can see oops other way. Alright so there. this is a 90.5 inches, so that's a very large queen size quilt. I didn't roll it. I didn't do anything and you can see how everything's done now this is on. I this in embroidery this green border. That's a quilt design. and I was I went all the way around the corners and I did all of it, but here's an exactly the kind of thing that you think about right so if you have let me just pull this up, sorry about my arm here. Okay. So in this case when I was doing this quilt Design, what I was thinking about is. Where is this flower design? how close this is coming to the border? so I used Design Positioning when I went to number one, I moved that point to this point in the flower and then when I touch number two, it showed me where that was how close it was to the border. Alright and then as you see as I'm going along here. this one here you can see how close it is right so you can really be very exact by using Design Positioning, but don't start like this start with something smaller. Alright I've got. One more thing there was some questions about what you do with three and four. so I wanted to show you how that works. Alright. And here's a couple of easy ways that you would use three and four. now there is. a Hoop I'm going to go and get a design. Alright. I'm going to get rid of the design that I have there and let me go back to my computer screen so you can see. I have nothing on the screen. I'm going to go and get my name. I'm going to choose. let's keep it simple. Karen And then I'll make small letters. Alright, so there is Karen I'm going to move it down because I don't know where I want it exactly and then I have this butterfly where I want to attach this butterfly. the little antennas, so I saved that Design. let me let me see if I can go and find it. It's called antenna. I should be able to put my hands on there. It is oh look at that. I even even brought a with it. so let's use that name instead. Alright so. On here, I have a line where I want to put that in this could be a pocket. This could be anything but I deliberately drew that line crooked and then I have the antenna for the butterfly. so I'm going to press go. Touch continue now remember the topaz the topaz forty and fifty do not have three and four so you have no0 sorry, I gotta change my Hoop. I didn't pay attention I get so excited about what I'm doing. Okay. So this Hoop I have on is 265 260. It's a ten inch by ten inch square and now I'm going to continue and I'm going to put my Hoop on. So I've got my hoop on in place. Right now, I want to go to Design Positioning now if you notice how that cross hair is right there. That is the first stitch in that antenna. So if I wanted to stitch this in place where my needle is right now, that is where that crosshairs. so if that's what I wanted the butterfly to be well, then I could just start stitching it right, but I don't want it there. I want it to be farther away a matter of fact, I want it to be up at this black.that. I drew you see there's a black dot there. I think you can. It right there so I'm going to go back to my screen. I'm going to open up Design Positioning. and I want to move this Design put the butterfly there So I'm going to touch. I already know that that's the point that's important. so I'm just going to touch number two and now when I go to my Hoop. I'm going to drag that Design on a second, so you can see that other little window. I'm going to drag that up there. Alright and if I need to I can just fine tune it by doing it like this. And look at that you see how exactly I can get that and now I know that that design is positioned so that when if I want it right here, I'll go and I'll stitch it out and it will stitch the butterfly in place for me and then I will have it all attached with the antenna now if I wanted to go and do the flower of the name that's a different thing entirely right because the name is straight and I want want it on a crooked line. so I'm going to go to number one if I just. To do this and move the design up or down I would be using number one, but that's not what I want well. maybe it is to start with. but at some point I need to rotate that line. That's what I'm going to use three and four so right now remember zoom in and you should if you don't make a record of this after you choose number one and you choose your point make a point of zooming in now, I'm going to touch number two. That's where my that's area of the lower letter K is going to be. I wanted to be on the line so I'm going to go and drag that design. And I can go back to full screen so I can see it better. and you can see when I'm dragging it. Sometimes it feels like I'm dragging it too far. So that's when I go and use a little arrows that are on that circle, So I can move it a little more gently look at that right on the line right well now, what am I going to do because I need. the end to be on that line too and the lines at an angle. So this is where I use three and four so I'm going to touch number. Get three and it gives me a second point right that turquoise. I'm going to bring it over here and put it under the end. so let's zoom in so we can see if that's exactly right. Perfect and now I'll zoom back out because I like to see the whole screen and now I have to touch number four for it to rotate right now. All I've done is selected it and it's turquoise when I touch number four It will turn that point and. When you look at my Hoop that that point is right here below the line so on my screen. I'm going to drag it up. So the didn't move when you look at my screen, you'll notice. That's a pivot point that first point stayed locked. now. The end is moving, but the the point where the letter K was that's not moving at all. So it's just pivoting the design so that when I look on the hoop. Alright, I can see. going to go up a little bit. Nope wrong way. So there is a little bit of experimenting with this kind of stuff. and when you do it, you can kind of stop more often. I went above it. so I'll go back like this. Alright and now it's getting closer and this is how you learn how to use design Positioning. Look at that perfect on the line, so that's exactly where I want to be. So then I'm going to say it's exactly where I want to be. I'm going to touch the check mark and now I can go and stitch the name out. let's go down to the name and you'll see that the needle is exactly on that line. Alright and I'm going to be ready to stitch it out. so we're probably just about out of time. let's see if I can answer any questions here. Sometimes so okay, somebody asked about the whole quilt. I'll hold the quilt up in a second sometimes in Design Positioning the. The design turns making the Hoop too small for the design. It does it generally isn't an issue if if you have a big Design and you're rotating it, it's only going to be an issue of that design is outside of Hoop area, so there's nothing you can do about that other than plan for your design if you need to rotate it. II have to tell you for everything that you've seen here. Alright whether it's the belts whether it's this quilt whether it's a huge quilt every single thing I have done I've done using one and two and I think sometimes by incorporating the rotating and all of that you get more mixed up and it's it's sometimes harder to learn it so I want to encourage you to try and just in the beginning when you're getting started if you take your design if you know that you're hooping, you're going to do a like a larger hoop right, a larger fabric is mark your inside line of your Hoop this way and this way and then use one and two to move your design forward up and down and sideways and get used to. First before you start rotating the designs because the rotating designs if you rotate it the wrong way, sometimes it's hard to get back to it. So. it was a question after using one or two or two, are you pressing okay before you start when you are in the Design Positioning you choose one to find what point you want to line up like in this case. I chose this point right here to line it up with this design and then when I touch number two, I zoomed out touch number two and. I was able to move the design so that it would touch where I want it to after you've done all of your checking and you know the design is exactly where you want to then you touch the check mark and it will move you back out to the embroidery stitches screen. It's the same thing on all of them. Alright, it doesn't matter what machine you're on. Where's the check mark on my app and on my ruby, I only see it on my computer so absolutely not when you are looking in the in the design Positioning on a ruby on a. On an epic they all either have okay or a check mark whatever it is, but there is something that says Okay. I'm ready to go. Usually it's it's now traditionally a check mark and II honestly can't remember back to my diamond, but I'm sure it's going to be pretty obvious when you look at it right now. so what you need to think about is when you're bringing in your design that is your edit screen you're going to go to embroidery stitch out where you see all the thread colors. that's where you're going to find Design Positioning once you've. In Design, Positioning, you can know you can play around with that Design. lots of ways you can check lots of points like I would never just check one point right I would go back to number one and then I would check another point some people will go to another number three and at that point, I think that's where it gets confusing if you just work with one and two to begin with, it makes makes a lot more sense. What you're doing so if I go back to number one and I move the point to here then I can say. Oh, that looks good or maybe I need to move the design down or maybe my fabric isn't straight in the hoop. Well, it's just as easy to to tighten the fabric in the hoop or give a little pull right than it is to rotate the design. So sometimes I think the idea of if you've just managed to move the design up and down and master that then move on to the rotating. it's a lot easier for you to learn it somebody has to Stabilizer question. I need an iron on mesh that will. Not a stick on mesh. There is a fusible notion me yes there is, but it doesn't wash away. Do You need it to it doesn't dissolve the one that is. There is no none that I know of the the Aqua Magic Plus is a dissolve way it will wash away, but it's sticky so that won't work. A question is I just wanted to move a design in the hoop, not point to point so I just used one and two absolutely. and and it really if you go in to Design Positioning and you know that all you want to do is move this Design up or down you don't even need to go to to one. you can just use the up arrow or down arrow and it'll move it up or down even without you pressing that. so there's a lot of things that you can do now. I know for some of you. This is a brand-new and others you're expert at it. I. That I learned by starting with simple things and building into more complicated things, so if you want to make something like this, you know start with something simple start with the quilt designs or some other things that make it a little bit easier to learn the process and then build on your skills by making designs more complicated. What what is somebody asked a question? What is the light color Design above the stitch sample which stitch sample? I'm not sure what we're looking at if you can give me more information, then that'll help I know we're just about out of time, but I do want to come back just to talk about the library for one more second, alright because I want you to recognize when you are looking at some of these designs, you may have your own designs but in the library there are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of designs that you will find alright so go in and explore some of these if you type in Moroccan. Oils it tends to bring you all of them and a whole lot More. This is that pillow Design that I did that I that I stitched it on the black fabric and that quilt design on the turquoise, but as you're looking at these designs, you'll see that there's parts and pieces too, so you can use them as corners. you can use them as a lot of different things. So I just really encourage you to wonder around there just in this last week, we do now have the ability that if you don't have a WiFi compatible machine that you can go in. Design so the ones that have more stitches this design here has 67. 6760. 6767000 stitches, so it is a little more expensive, but there's designs in there that are 299. so I I'm not sure if it goes exactly by stitch count, but there are if you like these designs and you would like to work with them. They are just fabulous. There's the one that I used on that black fabric and you'll notice that this one has a stippling to it and I'll just. In here, so you can kind of see it. Alright. This is a complicated one to do because it's the fabric is on the diagonal and I just wanted to come back and just something I wanted to tell you this is the most complicated thing you can do. because the fabric is done on the on the diagonal. I decided I didn't want want to do the stippling so I went to modify and found that stitch, which is this one wait a second. What color is it this one? Here yeah, That was it so I liked it better like that So here is my. design. You can see it a little better like that you can see. I have one corner that's left to do right but if you look at it, you will see markings this. I did a long time ago. I still have chalk lines so what I did was. I took a big ruler and I drew a square like a big square like this, and then I drew a line diagonally like this and. Through the center, both like that, so I was kind of marking where I needed to put those designs, but this right now I have a blue. I have a blue one still to come and then I have a turquoise one and then it'll be done so 1 day. I'll get this finished soon. anyways so. on the Hoop, they said. On the Hoop, oh this one here. this one here you're talking about so the lighter color design that is the design I found in the library right from Moroccan tiles. Let me pull it up and then I promise I'll say goodbye so. let me just change over to my computer here So when you're looking at that design, that is this one right here. So if I click it and send it to my computer or I can send it to my machine too if I wanted to but I'll. It up, so you can kind of see this is on. it actually has two colors the the silver color here. Oh, wait a second the silver color here. is. the second stitch and then there is echo quilting all through it that I did in a lighter gray in this one here I did not do the Echo quilting all I did was the silver part of that design and I skipped the. Quilting and that gives it a little bit lighter look to it. So it's it's really just fascinating how you can take one Design and change it up and just by changing your thread colors. it it really is amazing but the designs that you're going to find there when you look at them, you should always think about well. What do they look like when you put them together right? so I'm going to copy and paste it and I'm going to rotate it. Let me rotate it one more time so see I can. That flower building up in the center right so now if I combine them. and then duplicate it. and now I can move it up. I always want to know what it's going to look like before I start stitching it. Oops thought I could be your image that there we go and so now I know exactly what that's going to look like if I combine that and now I want to go. I mean, let's say I want to go into a bigger Hoop. I'm going to make my Hoop my own. Because you could make this Hoop any size you want to let's make it you don't have to stitch it out. it doesn't have to actually exist. I'm going to make it 600. And I'm going to make this one 600. 600 now that gives me the ability to put more of them together. so I'm going to duplicate it and now I can see that secondary pattern that's happening. It's not fascinating how that works. So this is how I understand how the designs are going to work before I stitch them out I play with them like that. So I knew what was happening in that big wall hanging behind me. I knew what was happening in the pillows and everything I was doing. I had a good sense so if you've. Thought you needed software I that's how I use the software I go in and I put the designs together and play with them and then afterwards I when I'm going on my machine. I know exactly how they're going to fit together and where they're going to start and where they're going to finish and that's an important part of the process. So we're out of time I'm over time. Thank you all for your patience. Thomas and and Meredith and I hope you've got excited enough that you're going to give it a try, You know where to find me if you've got any questions. And I will go and answer any questions that I didn't get to after we finish up. I'll come back and I'll answer any questions that I didn't give you a good answer to so thank you for joining me this time One of my next time is coming up. I'm going to talk about how you can make your own quilt designs in the software, so I hope to get to that soon and but it's so exciting what we can do so go home Use your design Positioning and you will be absolutely shocked at how easy it is once you get. So give it a try if you have never used it and for those of you who are congratulations because it is absolutely the best feature that we have on our machine. So thanks for joining me, I'm going to say goodbye. bye everybody have a.
