Lea Salonga and Brad Kane perform 'A Whole New World' on Good Morning America

in 1992 the film Aladdin took us on a magic carpet ride to a whole new world now for the first time in nearly a quarter-century Laius Alana and Brad Kane who performed that oscar-winning song are reuniting they're right here to sing for a GMA exclusive accompanying them just 8-time Oscar winner composer Alan Menken right there at the piano and the host this the cast the crew behind Aladdin so happy to have you all here can't believe it's been that long right yeah so much has happened in a couple decades and I know you both have projects you want to talk about Brad sure no I I mean you know I did a lot of Broadway after I did Aladdin but then I went into writing and producing and for the last four years I've been writing on a little pirate show called black sails four stars and we you know we shoot in South Africa and it's a Treasure Island prequel and it's been a lot of fun yeah you haven't gone far from Broadway no and back on Broadway we're in previews now for a musical titled allegiance and our official opening is November the 8th and so far the audiences seem to be loving it so I'm hoping for the best like like that Alan I know George mentioned the song has been in countless weddings weren't listening to you we're listening to youbut whether this was but how does something like this come to you how did it come to well this was when Tim Rice came onto riding with me on Aladdin I quickly put together this song and one jump ahead and flew over to London and this was we knew this was going to be the magic carpet ride song and even before he passed away Howard Ashman and I had talked about this moment being this magical trip and so I just wanted that very romantic feeling of a flight and it comes quickly to you well it once you know once something comes once the assignment is clear yet it comes pretty quickly well you have touched so many for so long and we are so excited and ready to do this are you ready take us to a whole new world thank you I can show you the world shining shimmering splendid tell me princess now when did you last let your heart decide [Music] open your eyes take you wonder I wonder over sideways and under on a magic carpet ride a new Fantastic point of to tell us no where to go or say we're only dreaming [Music] clean [Music] yeah Oh [Music] sorry tumbling freewheeling [Music] and less time don't you dare close your eyes hold your tickets man a shooting star new [Music] rises to an impression I'll chase them anywhere there's time to spare let me share this whole new world with you a whole new world that's where we'll be [Music] really chase just place for you and me you 23 years gives you such a crick in the neck while the century hey guys

I don't know if the young generation is aware how HUGE Lea Salonga was back then. I know she is still popular till now but her impact was big during the 90's. Miss Saigon, singing voice of Jasmine and Mulan, and of course, Les Miserables. She dominated the avant-garde music scene of the 90's.

I'm 19 and am just now beginning to realize how big Lea Salonga was back in the day. Wow. I never really took the time to appreciate her greatness.
