echoing down from the broadcast booth in 1980 were memorable game calls from beloved Bulldog radio voice Larry Munson Munson got the job nobody knew who he was he had been at Vandy he was had been one year of Braves broadcasting and didn't live in Athens didn't live in Atlanta people didn't really know who he was when he first arrived he was very professional and then a very good announcer and his first year we had a championship team in 66 and he called it extremely well as a impartial announcer and very professional but then he developed I think by moving to Atlanta at the time he was living in Nashville but by moving to Atlanta and becoming more involved in it and getting involved with the Georgia people he became a part of it there's nobody ever nobody's been like Munson five young Broadway Hicks with eight men coming on him and the kick is good long going to come down inside of 30 and we hand get on that ball this on the back of the endzone we have three men Marcus 20 yards we land on our chips we landed on our heads and it went 20 more yards jumped on it with our heads we jumped on it on our back and that 40-yard punt screw-up you know as he was going on inside unbelievable people just diving on it and it was squirts nine more yards of somebody else where the land on it it would squirt again this has not been a night old lady like everybody loved Larry you could always seem he'd come across that field and he had that big old cigar and Larry he tried to know everybody perfectly want to know about his name he knew my parents you know he knew Birmingham he knew he would talk about people in common and he would talk but he loved to go fishing and so those are some things he talked about but was around is a great guy is kind of a you know man's man and fun to be around but Larry Munson was just one of a kind he was out there he was loose he called it like he saw him he was just a one-of-a-kind his calls were just the greatest ever inspiring the way that he had away with word he was the ultimate dramatic announcer who who seemed who talked like he was covering a holy crusade Georgia trying to make him drop it so they can't hear we had up there so there's a whole family money like God Almighty he ran right through two men Herschel ran right over two men they made him stand away inside the nine rhyming and running with thoughts big fight my god I'm great hey I would turn the radio up and turn the television dad I mean there was no way I would like to join football game without layer of Moscow people say weren't you watch the Georgia game I said why now go I'm good you know Larry Munson on the radio why don't you watch it I think it was all of our goals to get on one highlight over 97 yards he's as much Georgia football as you know it's coach rustling and you know in coach Dooley and you know in the end the mascot you know and ugga you know probably is in the tradition of the hedges in the stadium and everything else he's just a real dog he's an ER Trussell he's part of our program and he will be forever Larry Munson of course is legendary and he's the best in the world probably will ever be and that business every now and then we'll listen to some of his old calls and it true brings back a lot of great memories some of his sayings will cope will be in Georgia a folklore for generations to come in some ways he's just one more example of of the store this incredible story coming true and he's part of the you know the legend that it's just kind of all coming together at once and he was he was he was that he was as it is it was his finest hour as well Larry Munson something special and unfortunately they're not many left like
