hey guys Justin here if you follow the channel you know that I love the three fu L and Chen 1/10 I think it's one of the best bang for the buck 10 so you can get out there and punches way above its price range for how much performance you get out of it in the fall of 2019 3 ful released a pro version of that tent that I have behind me right here they're kind enough to send me that tent to review and today I'm gonna take a look at the tent after 8 months of use first up let's get some of the housekeeping all the way you can pick this tent up on Aliexpress for between 120 to 150 dollars u.s. I'll post links in the video description so you go check that out also let's talk about the specs really quickly this tent weighs 690 grams which is really late and part of that is because it is a trekking pole tent what that means is instead of tent poles holding the tent up and giving it structure we have one trekking pole going right up the middle of the tent giving the tent its structure and keeping it up off the ground the bathtub floor is 90 centimeters wide at either end and 110 centimeters wide in the middle and is 230 centimeters long for height it's going to depend on how high you set your trekking pole I have it set right now for 130 centimeters they'll be good anywhere between 125 centimeters that I pitched as high as 135 centimeters I have a trekking pole right here which is really nice for adjusting but you can also use a carbon fiber pole that I grabbed off Aliexpress here and I'll post a link to that in the video description as well when you buy the tent you get obviously the tent with it you also get a stuff sack you get a whole bunch of these kind of red stakes here as well as a patch kit that you can use to patch up any holes in the tent well you don't get with the tent is a trekking pole that I've right here or any sort of pole to prop the tent up or a seam sealer and the seam sealer is very important because you actually need to waterproof all of the seams on the tent while most tents come with their seams taped because this tent uses a double coated silicon you actually have to use liquid silicone and paint that on to all the seams for the tent it's pretty easy to do it took me about 30 minutes if you don't know what seam sealer is I'll post a link to what I use in the description and you just get a paintbrush and paint the seams all the hardware and guidelines for the tent are really easy to use use these line locks that you see here as as a different line lock on the corners as well and they're all really nice they hold the chords really well the main line here uses a really good system where you can open up one door or open up both doors and roll them back and get really good user ventilation there is only one door on this tent right here it's kind of a pain but really it's all you need and what I really like about this door because it's a d-shaped door that attaches at the top it never kind of flops into the mud and gets dirty which is really nice you just open it and let it go where sometimes as soon as you open them they're flopping into the ground I find that the tie backs for the fly and the door are really nice they lock you in really well and you don't really get a lot of floppiness to to the fly and then the door uses the exact same toggle so you just use it like so and there you go you have your fly and your door pulled back and lots of room to get in and out of the tent durability wise I've had no problems with this tent it uses a twenty ten year which is actually thicker than the 15 denier that was used on the regular lantian and I never any problems with the regular net lantian and three ful says that the material on the pro is 30 to 50 percent stronger and more durable and that's the case with the tent that I've had I haven't had any punctures no issues and I never use a footprint with this tent I don't think I ever will it's just not needed with how durable the tent is all the zippers have held up great no snags at all and all the mesh even though it's ultra light has held up really well no snags or holes in that at all either oh it's been really good all straight lines no loose threads or miss stitches anyway and they've done a really good job at reinforcing a whole bunch of points with this Dyneema reinforced fabric that just patches up some spots that are a little bit more prone to tearing or ripping the quality of both three ful tents that I've had the LAN Chen regular and the LAN sham Pro here has really surpassed any of my expectations really well put together tents really durable really good quality and then that brings us to whether it doesn't matter how well put the other tent is if it's not gonna hold up to rain snow or any sort of conditions you can throw at it and the land Qian tent is really good I'm used to this tent on dozens of winter hiking days and a bunch of summer days so far this year and with the rain and snow it has held up really well the pyramid shape of the tent really sheds snow really well which is nice so if you want to use this tent in the winter it's going to do well it's not going to hold as much heat as a double wall tent but it'll still keep the snow off eeeh and as you can see it's taken a bunch of rain today and there's no wet spots inside at all right now the tent is perfectly dry I guess that's a good sign that I seem sealed it properly as well well I haven't had this tent in some really windy conditions yet I did have its older brother the regular LAN Chen and a lot of windy conditions and it's basically the exact same design and that tent was a champion wind while other tents were flocking around the LAN Chen was super steady and with everything guide out was rock-solid and any sort of win that I can throw at it something that I've noticed with the pro version versus the regular version is that the fabric that's used in the pro version handles moisture and wetness a little bit better if there's a bunch of snow or rain on it I find that the material sags much less and I don't need to tighten as much I don't have as much saying going down into the middle of the tent and that results in a lot more space when the tent is wet compared to the regular LAN Chen while we're on the topic of weather let's talk about condensation I normally get a ton of questions about it especially considering the pro is a single wall tent let's just get it out of the way right away the LAN Chen one pro does not have any less or any more condensation than the regular LAN Chang double tents don't prevent condensation what they do is they protect what's inside the tent from the inner walls and the condensation that's on those inner walls but while the LAN Chen one pro doesn't have that inner mesh to protect you from touching the inner walls what I really like about the pro version and having the inner walls exposed is that when I do have condensation build-up I can wipe it down with a towel or something in the morning and get that condensation out of my tent so I'm not carrying it around as wet weight throughout the day if you pack up a wet tent you could be packing up almost double the weight of what the tent normally weighs and I like the ability to be able to take out all the condensation from the tent and because the LAN Chan one pro is bigger than the regular lanch and I find that I'm able to keep my quilt and my head and everything away from those inner walls and condensation hasn't been a problem for me so far speaking of size let's talk about the livability of this tent so as you can see here we have a really nice big vestibule I often keep my pack in the vestibule just right by the trekking pole here and because of that I'm able to get access to anything that I need there's also a ton of room for shoes or anything else that you might want to keep in here heck even if you wanted to have your dog sleep in the vestibule there's a ton of room in here for that I did bring a couple sleeping pads with me a my quilt and pillow to show you how much space there is while you're inside the tent so let's get those set up and then we can hop in and see how much space we have so I'm 510 185 pounds and with the systems that I use the LAN Chen one pro is just big enough I use a couple different sleeping pads the Nemo tensor insulated which is three inches tall and the sea2summit ether latex tee which is four inches tall and then you're using a light and equipment quilt which is 13 inches tall so with the ether latex tee and the quilt my set up is about 17 inches off of the bottom of the tent and with that 17 inch set up I find that at 5:10 the tent is just long enough to keep my feet and head away from the inner tent and I'm not getting any issues with condensation when condensation is happening so as you can see lots room above my head probably almost a foot right above and then about six inches on this side and then at my feet you can see there's about the same amount of room on that side as well now if you're sitting up right in the middle you have quite a bit of room above you especially if you pitch the tent with the trekking pull out about 130 135 centimeters you do have not as much room over to the side here but right next to the pool I can sit up and still have a good foot above my head with the Nemo tensor I find there's a lot more space light and I think if you were around six foot with the setup that I have you'd have enough space to live comfortably in the lanch and one pro if you use a 4 inch sleeping pad and have a really Lochte quilt then you're gonna have to be under six foot to use this tent if you're over six foot then you might get away with a three inch or shorter sleeping pad or if you have a less locky quilt like I was saying you have about 90 centimeters at either end of the tent and then as you move to the middle it widens to 110 centimeters so you have this really nice space right beside you that you can store things even your pack if you wanted to let's summarize everything with what I like and what I don't like about the tent first of all for what I like is the price you can't beat the land chanceries of tents for price to performance these things perform really well for the price that they cost and that brings us into the other things I like which is durability this tent is super durable ease of use I think for a tracking pool tent it's a really easy tent to use I've shown multiple people how to set it once up once and then they're able to take it and set it up no problem another thing I really like about the tent is the space they made the pro version bigger and it shows and because that I have a lot more space in tent and I'm not touching the walls when I'm using it and I use a really tall sleep system and with the regular lanch and I do touch the walls now the condensation it's use not a problem with the pro for me it's also really lightweight it's hard to find budget ultralight options out there so I'm really happy that 3 ful makes the LAN Chan and keeps it affordable and things I don't like number one has to be the seam sealing it's really annoying that you have to take the tent out set it up and seam seal all of the seams big pain and I wish that through if you all just stuck with the 15 denier fabric that they used on the original LAN Chen and kept the seam sealing another thing I don't like and it's related to the first point is that they changed the material that 15 denier fabric that they used on the regular land chain was great and durable enough for me waterproof enough for me really get everything you need to do going to the 22 near fabric sure it's more durable and pitches a bit better but it's also heavier and you have to do that seam sealing so for me the trade-offs just weren't there and I imagine that the 20 denier fabric also increased the cost of the tent so as the lanch and pro hold up to the legacy of the original land chain I think so I think the pro version is awesome and it's going to be my go-to for the summer of 2020 I'm gonna be leaving my regular land chant home I just love the extra space in the Tang Clan Chen one continues to be one of my favorite budget pieces of gear out there if you're interested in some other budget pieces of gear I'll post a link to that right there as well as a video on how to find really good deals on gear so check those two out like I said I'll be posting links in the description of where you can pick this tent up as well as a link to the set up video 3 ful also makes a 2 person version of this tent I'll post a link to that is you can check it out if you're looking for a tent for you and a buddy or if you're bringing a dog and one to bring them inside the tent with you that's all thanks for watching guys we'll see you next time
