La Vie En Rose // Ukulele Tutorial

hello everyone today we have a tutorial for love V on Rose I play this song for my 100 days of ukulele songs project although I did in French today we're going to learn it in English and I'm simplifying the arrangement a little bit this is still I would call it an advanced beginner level arrangement we have nine chords and we're using the swing strum but it goes pretty slowly and it's a nice introduction to jazz ukulele if you haven't played jazz on the ukulele yet so you can download a chord chart below there's a link and first I'm going to play through the song entirely so you can sing along and then I'll teach you the strum and the chords ok here we go nice and slow one two three four Oh hold me fast and magic spell you cast this is the via and though I close my me to your world up yeah I'm sold to my follow SB okay so let's learn the chords of the song by playing through the song and just doing a single strum on each chord and I will give you some tips and tricks for transitioning between the chords so we'll start at the top we have a G hold me close and hold me and we're moving to a G major 7 I'd keep my index down and then move my other two fingers to stack some people also like to bar the chord so we go hold me close and hold me into your index finger across the three strings there are no rules in ukulele you can do what's easiest for you hold me close and hold me fast now we'll keep going that magic spell you pick up the middle finger for g6 test this is La Vie on a minor d7 bar d7 so if you have a barred chords before you're going to lay your entire index finger across that second fret then stack the middle finger on top I like to do that to add pressure once your hands get stronger you won't need to stack anymore and then make sure that you're pinching with your thumb into your fingers on the top so then you get that extra pressure then lay your ring finger down d7 okay now second verse a minor you can use your index finger or you can use your middle finger here just whatever is easier whatever you're used to when you kiss me heaven and though I close my eyes I see the V on Giro d7 so you're moving from a d7 to a G and back to a d7 so this is what I would do d7 you can move your ring finger first yeah get that stable then move your other two fingers for G now and then you can move your ring finger back and then restock for d7 you can do that or you can move your stack fingers first and then your ring finger and then move your fingers back to the stack and then your ring finger so it's it's up to you what is easier the main thing that I encourage is that you step to the next position versus letting your fingers leap off and have to leave back on because it's going it's less stable it's going to be harder for your fingers to find their place again okay so now we're to the third verse G when you press me to your major seven again I'm in a world j6 middle finger now G seven I would move my index to the first fret and then put my middle finger down okay so that's our G 6 to G seven you can do index move that index keep that ring finger down or if you go back to the top of that first right when you press me to your eye in a world apart you can move that middle finger up for g6 and then your index is ready to go on g7 Oh tricks okay a world where roses see you nice and easy now our C minor six nice jazzy chord okay index finger is on the top string on the second fret and then stack those three fingers one string at a time make sure that you're hitting each of those and when you speak angels ring fingers already in place for G so don't move it sing from above now you're gonna slide both of these fingers back to B flat diminished everyday words love that chord so jazzy your everyday words seem to a minor to D seven songs last verse treat your heart or soul to major seventh day and life will aways a minor d7 okay now we'll play through with the strum so we're using a swing strum on this song so we learn the swing strum and don't worry be happy it was a little bit faster there here we're going to slow it way down so let's practice that swing strum it goes now you can use the G down down up down down up let's try it together it's now strumming now down down down up down down up down down okay so let's play through each of these verses nice and slow the key thing here is each chord has to swing strums except when the courts have brackets and then you're just going to do one swing strim for each which means that they split a measure but the transition is super fast so you got to watch out for that okay so here we go from the top two three nice and slow for G major seven fast and magic spell you pick up the middle finger this is La Vie only minor just one of those 97 okay so those bracket chords those are fast so you just got to practice those right maybe that's a minor DS okay now let's look at our second verse a minor blues Mya's now just one of each a my de 7 I see the V oh now one of each G to d7 okay now our third verse here when you press me into your major super middle finger 46 yes so it's just one strum on each of those so that's quite fast yeah g6 whether you do the middle finger up or you switch your fingers after the G major 7 right G 6 G's so let's just do that again gzx g7 now we move to bloom on C blue ridge minor 6 g keep that ring finger where it is slide back b-flat diminish a minor d7 just one of each actually we're going to do a nice hold on d7 so that single slash just means to hold it it's just dramatic you can make it nice romantic pause and then start the next verse whenever you're ready and G major 7 and life below is page 1 a minor one d7 fingerpick okay so that's lovey unrolls so you can practice slowly through those transitions get them to be tighter and then when you feel that the transitions are smoother you can go back to the top you can play along with me also this is a nice slow romantic song you can play it at your own pace and the musical term is rubato it means you just play with feeling it doesn't have to be you know in time and in a really strict rhythm so just enjoy feeling it if you sing it with passion then
