hi I'm Eric with Rocky Mountain atv/mc comm and this is our KTM 690 and dural our adventure bike build the basis of this bike is it's a fuel-injected single cylinder 4-stroke it has a trellis frame it also has off-road suspension components so it's got WP suspension components and then also the motor so the motor is it's really smooth down low but as the RPMs come up I mean you get to like 5,000 rpm and things get serious I mean it gets it gets exciting even on the street fully loaded it'll it'll cruise it's a bike I think that KTM geared more towards me you know my kind of rider because we started in the dirt so the dirt is where I'm from and I'm going towards this adventure that includes some Street so I want to ride more dirt and less Street and don't get me wrong this bike is great on the street even with a couple modifications it gets even better on the street but it really shines as the road gets worse and also my smile seems to get bigger so now let me show you what we've done to this bike to make it a more capable long multi-day adventure bike so I think that the one thing this bike really needs and I think it's count something that maybe KTM missed the boat on is the fuel capacity so this bike because of how it set up its it's a trellis frame underneath and the fuel tank is actually back here underneath the seat and the subframe it's actually part it is the subframe KTM did a really good job I think of maximizing the space they had back there it's a three point one seven gallon fuel tank and that gives me about a hundred and thirty miles when you add the rally rate Evo 2 tanks this is a tank and shroud kit it gives you another 2.6 gallons and so that brings up the total - you know 5.8 gallons and and with you know all the tanks combined that gives me a range of about 250 miles and that's acceptable to me I think that's about right for adventure riding but without them you know that the stock tank is just not enough now these Evo two tanks they're actually pretty cool it's it's just a side so what you can see here is one tank and then there's one on the other side that's a mirror image of it and it just hangs off the side of it because you've got your air box down here there's really no other room for fuel on this bike and even though it looks kind of bulky and not quite as sexy as your your stock shrouds on it it's not that noticeable and the trade-off for what it's worth to get that much more range out of it it's it's definitely worth it to me next we have the Ricochet skid plate so this skid plate as you can see has been well used already this kid plate that comes stock on this bike is just plastic it doesn't have much frontal coverage and for the style of riding you know once again I I need a serious skid plate and the skid plates held up great next on the list is the KTM hard part's foam off-road air filter the air filters up here underneath the seat between the tanks sits down in the frame and the stock one is a paper filter and after the first couple rides I noticed I was getting some dust past the the element you know I checked the surface sealing and everything seemed fine I was just pullin dust through the filter and so I actually was at an event and one of the KTM activation guys was there and got talking to him he's like well we make a foam filter maybe I ought to try that so I put that in I haven't had any problems since so it's great peace of mind so next on the list we have the Tusk pannier racks so on this bike in particular you know we talked about how the fuel tank is actually a part of the subframe so under hard use full load there's been reports of you know the tank stretching a little bit or the subframe mounting bolts the tank mounting bolts bending so to add very much luggage to this we decided we needed to triangulate the weight a little bit better and so the pannier racks as you can see we've got them they're actually attached clear down on the frame and then go all the way up and all the way over to the other side and it just helps distribute that weight a little bit better so on this bike today you know that the pannier acts they're pretty flexible so today I have the Wolfman expedition packs on them but I can change that out and put the Tusk hard pannier boxes on them within seconds and it just depends on what kind of ride I'm going to go on but the Tusk pannier racks offer that flexibility here we have the tusk top rack and this bike doesn't come with a stock top rack so if you want to haul anything on the back of this bike you're going to need to to find a rack and this one we put plenty of mounting holes in it so if your pack is little or big it's going to work for you this top rack can be used with or without the Tusk pannier racks so if you don't want to run the pannier racks just wanted on the top rack it's designed to do that as well so I briefly talked about how the tank is mounted and the bolts that mount the tank how sometimes under a full load you could bend those bolts Rally Raid products actually make some bolts that are a different design and a stronger design that replace you know they have a lower tank mounting bolt and subframe tank mounting bolts so those are really important as well next we have the CJ Designs fuel filler neck and the stock cap on this is locked but it's this whole triangle shape so when you pull it out if you've got a little bit of dirt on the edges it'll fall right down into your fuel and so this is just a standard spin off cap and you can see it's raised so if you've got mud or dirt it's not going to automatically end up in that tank next up is the seat concept complete seat seat concepts has done a great job with making this shape seat and so what it is this is towards the back of this the seats fairly wide and flat so when you're sitting down that's where a lot of your your weight is and so it's it's very comfortable back here but towards the front it tapers down and so you can still move around on the bike quite easily upgrading from your stock seat makes it so you can do a lot more miles a lot more comfortable next up we have the IMS rally pegs so on this bike it has a heat shield that kind of sticks out a little bit and by the time you get your boot and your pants and everything out here your foot ends up being too far outboard of the bike and so imagine you've only got the stock foot peg that's it's only about this long and then you're already poking out a little bit farther and it's so it made it so my foot want to fall off so these pegs make it so my foot feels nice and secure on that big big platform and once again more miles I don't even think about it it's very comfortable I love these pegs now moving on to the creature comforts I have for my heated gear I've got the first gear coax power lead so I can plug in a heated gear into that up on the bars I have the tusk grip heater kit and these go underneath the your you know a regular grip and they make your hands nice and toasty on those colder rides I'm moving over we have the Tusk 12-volt power socket and this is good for keeping your phone charged I use it for you know I've got a little battery pack that I like to charge up as I'm riding I use that thing every ride I go on while we're up on the bars I use the Garmin Zumo 590 LM GPS unit it's big enough that you can see as you're riding it's got you know big bold graphics I've used different kinds of gps's and this is probably my favorite one so far we use Ram mounts to hold it on the bars I also have right now I've just got my phone in a ram mount with an X grip and actually that X grip holds that phone and they're really well if I don't have my phone on it I normally have my Delorme in reach Explorer it's a satellite tracking device so you can have people at home keep track of your ride you can call in emergency calls it functions like a satellite texting device and I normally have that on my bars as well moving on to the mirrors these are the double take enduro mirrors the stock mirrors on this bike they seem to as I stood up they seem like they were rolled back too far and would actually almost contact my shoulders and my upper arms they're also really buzzy the spikes vibrates a little bit at higher rpms and so it made it really buzzy and so these I found or the ultimate in adjustability so next we have the KTM hard part's windshield now this windshield looks really small it doesn't look like it would do much but it actually makes a considerable amount of difference this also makes my definitely a must-have it's a fairly inexpensive unit and it makes a world of difference next we have the lights on this bike I've got two different kinds of lights on the Left I have the Baja designs Squadron Pro in a driving pattern and then on the right I have the rigid industries dually and you know it seems like that we're always riding in the dark whether we're trying to maximize our days that we have available at a ride or if we're riding in the you know the spring or the fall the days seem to be a little shorter but I think that lights are a very important part of adventure riding next up we have the tusk D flex wraparound hand guards wraparound hand guards is something I put on every bike I own it just protects your levers in case you go down on these adventure bikes it seems like you know all of your handlebar controls are a little bit more expensive so a little extra protection for your hands and for the components on your bars very important next up we have the giant loop Bushwhacker hand guards and if you get caught out in the weather these things are great I mean they take two seconds to put on you slide it on you put the strap through lock it in place and that's actually going to it keeps all you've got to have wrap around hand guards you've got to have a support for it but that's going to keep all the rain and the wind if it's really cold or wet it's going to keep your hands very happy and I don't run these all the time and only keep them in my pack but when the weather turns bad I pull these out next up we have the trail tech fan switch so the stock thermostat is basically what tells your cooling fan to turn on is set pretty high and the trail tech unit makes it so you can program when that fan comes on you know there's been some issues people saying that their their 690 overheats and this has made it so I haven't had an issue with it next we move on to the clutch this bike has a Rekluse clutch and most of you are familiar with what a Rekluse clutch is it's it doesn't make the bike an automatic it makes it an automatic clutch and so the engagement is automatic you still have to shift the bike but it really makes it easy to ride when you get on the tough stuff because you're not thinking about your clutch anymore all you have to think about is making sure you have the proper amount of throttle and your balance and just go so it's definitely like cheating something I don't have on this bike yet but I will very soon is the Scotts sub mount steering dampener kit and it's actually a rubber mounted design that BRP has helped Scotts with it's actually it makes it so it takes some of that that high frequency vibration out so now you can see in your mirrors and you know you don't feel the vibration on the higher rpm stuff and then also it's bump absorption so it makes it so your bars are now rubber mounted because they're mounted to that top steering adapter mount something else that's important to me is the tires on this bike I have the dunlop d 606 tires i lean more towards the dirt so these are a little bit more of a knob they work perfect for this kind of riding I also run Bridgestone ultra duty tubes and I run tusk rim locks so we run these tires a little bit lower air pressure than normal and so when you do that without a rim lock you start getting the tire wants to spin on the rim and so the rim locks help counter that so you're not always ripping valve stems off your tubes okay next up is luggage and on this bike I have the Wolfman tank pannier bags I have the enduro tank bag it works really well on this bike I have the Rocky Mountain pannier bags and I have the expedition duffel on this bike and we actually have another video where I go in depth of you know how to pack for your next adventure ride so make sure and check that out so that's it this is the KTM 690 and duro bike build all of these items are available on our website Rocky Mountain atv/mc comm make sure to check us out you
